  1. Hi ocdennise I recently had sleeve to bypass revising In August 23rd 2021 so I'm twelve week out and lost 45lbs and feel really good sorry to hear your troubles and cancer hope your feeling well I did consider not having the surgery but had it done in the end good luck with your choices hope it goes well for you
  2. I had a revision on 11/5 due to GERD and regain due to my thyroid. I noticed the difference immediately. However the past few days I noticed slight discomfort but nothing like before. I’m a little concerned because it’s been 3 weeks and I’m only down 13 pounds.
  3. I was sleeved Oct 2013 & lost 90lbs (gained back 20 lbs) but never got to goal weight or close. I really committed to changing my lifestyle; exercising (running & weight lifting) & used myfitness pal to log food. I felt great & looked great. Then, life unraveled. In 2016 found out my husband of 20yrs was cheating on me, I realized he was an alcoholic & we divorced, I was laid off from my job & then diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. My kids were 10 & 12 at the time & I had no family to help me (both parents deceased & brother lives 3hrs away by plane). I went through 9hr surgery to remove a foot of my colon & then 7 mos of chemo & steroids. I put on 60lbs during chemo & have not been able to lose it. I had a bad fall after last chemo treatment from neuropathy in feet. I have so much pain in my knees I can’t run. Don’t know if all due to excess weight, arthritis (I’m 54), chemo, menopause? I finished my ins requirements for a revision & scheduling revision to bypass is next. But, I am so hard on myself & questioning if it will work and if I shouldn’t be messing with my body especially surviving cancer? I have regained all my weight &depressed. I hate the way I look & struggle with trying to be happy I am alive after cancer. I have heard weight loss is slower after revision. Is that always the case? Anyone else have cancer after wls & regained and had revision? I feel lost. I miss the adrenaline I used to get from working out.

Acid Reflux or GERD post surgery

I had acid reflux at least 3-4 times a week before surgery sometimes more. I discussed this with my Dr because I did not want to end up having a revision because of it getting worse. He said that out of the thousands of surgeries he has done he could count on one hand how many actually had a revision and not all of them were because of reflux. I may be one of the few but I have not had reflux since I started my pre op diet and I am 7 months out.

    RNY to RNY revision.

I'm at 266 right now, pre-surgery. I'm optimistic having read your status at 2.5 months. I'm hoping to break 200 after the revision. I haven't seen "onederland" since college. I dare not even dream of a lower target weight. I have done so well pre-surgery that people are asking why I want to go ahead with the revision. I was stalled for 10 weeks and thought I had bottomed out. However, this week I have just dropped a few pounds. I still don't have a surgery date, but that may be due to the rise in COVID cases In my area.

    RNY to RNY revision.

I did an RNY revision to distal rny. I am 2.5 months out and was 266 two week before my surgery and today I was 216.4 (weight in the afternoon after eating). I have a toddler so not picking at her leftovers was an issue but the longer you stick with it the better it is! Also, you learn from your previous mistakes with your last surgery. I felt terrible after my first surgery but I’m taking my vitamins diligently and eating good and I’m so glad I did it! I’m going to start going to the gym soon too 🙂

    Canadian, eh?

Hi how did your surgery experience go? I am waiting for an appointment with Dr. Hagen. I have a Lapband and hope to revise to a sleeve.
  8. If you eat a well balanced diet and take the prescribed vitamins and minerals you should have no deficiency as you age. My plan calls for 1500 mg calcium citrate which protects from bone loss. It is important to take calcium citrate, not other forms of calcium. I had my RNY 30 years ago, and while it was not entirely successful (so I'm leading up to revision at age 73), the surgery had no long term negative effects on me. Indeed, I credit it for avoiding Type II Diabetes, which many of my overweight friends now have.

    Long period

Keep a close eye on it.....I thought I started my cycle in late Dec, 2020 (about a week before my revision, sleeve to bypass) and since I have PCOS and the flow was light, I didn't think anything of it until August when it still didn't stop. I had a endometrial biopsy----came back as cancer. I had a total hysterectomy in early October. Cancer had spread beyond the uterus to an ovary and peritoneum- Stage 3B, just had round 2 of 6 Chemo cycles and after that I have 5 weeks of radiation.......so if your cycle is not normal for you.....check it out!
  10. Sleeve to RNY revision this Friday. The day after Thanksgiving. I am excited, nervous and someone else said they didn't feel prepared. That's me. I have vitamins and all that jazz, but I hate not knowing what to expect. How different is this going to be from sleeve surgery; will the reflux really go away......what do I eat to start off with. I have papers, but I still don't feel like I have a grip on what's getting ready to happen.
  11. Had sleeve surgery June 2010. Like you, I lost down to exactly 132. My husband and daughters were alarmed because I could STOP losing. My goal was 150. I started adding higher caloric foods and gained to 145, I like that 5 lb pad. I maintained at or below goal for eight years. I have arthritis in my hips and after we left the Dallas area, I don't have the big malls to go to. I used to go and walk, no power walking, just window shopping, but I did it quite a bit. We also had a 2-story house and I'd purposely go up and down the stairs more than I needed to. Here I am, severe reflux and a hiatial hernia. I have regained a little over 40 lbs. Revision surgery is this Friday. I hope surgery will fix the medical problems and hopefully I'll drop 25 lbs!! Good luck!!

    RNY to RNY revision.

Wishing you both every success. I know it is easy to get down about a revision not working as well as the original but I dug into a bunch of scientific articles and most say the average person loses 10-15% less than the original weight loss surgery. I know when I had my gastric sleeve in 2012, I lost too much weight so I am hoping my revision to RNY just gets me within10 lbs of goal and helps my acid reflux. II'm having my revision 12/2/21 and keep you both in my thoughts.

    RNY to RNY revision.

I also will be having RNY revision very soon, but my original RNY was done 30 years ago. Over 10 years I regained all I had lost. Both my pouch and anastomasis stretched. We won't lose as much following revision, but It will get us closer to "normal" BMI. There has been much progress in the technique and protocol since even 2010 so I'm optimistic.
  14. I had my original RNY in 2010. Lost 120 lbs. In the past 12 years I have had a baby, my parents moved in with me and my weak ankle and flat foot got progressively worse until I was limited to swimming and yoga for exercise. I gained 60 lbs back and my gastric reflex was getting bad. I had an upper GI and found 1. Hiatal hernia (rare for RNY) and my pouch was 3x the size my surgeon would like and my stomach 2x. He said that it is partially due to stretching and partially that my original surgeon made it bigger than he would have in the first place. Revision in 3 weeks. I’m a little nervous because last time I was able to lay around on the couch for 3 weeks post op and “eat” all my “meals” alone. Now I have a very active 7 year old and a family that likes to have family dinners together. Any other RNY to RNY revisions?
  15. Dec. 2nd here! - although mine is a revision. The revision board seems to be kinda dead so thought I'd pipe in here. I hope everyone is uber successful!
  16. Before I had my sleeve in late July of 2012 I was 199 lbs. By March of 2013, I was below 130 and I looked sickly. Kinda like a lollipop... my head seemed too big for my body. I do have pics - just ask. I hope you are healthy above all. I was happy when I regained and maintained in the 140-150 lb. range. Now I am doing a revision VSG to RNY and at a much higher re-gain weight (for many reasons). Be well.
  17. Hello. I was going to be your revision buddy and I am so sorry you weren't able to have it done. I hope you are able to straighten it out and be back on track. Please look me up when you come back. Take good care. Katrina

    November 2021 surgeries

What foods have you broken up with?

I had the same problem with eggs for awhile after revision. I started using an egg substitute called “just egg” that has about the same calories and protein but made from plants. It tastes like eggs but was so much easier until I could tolerate regular eggs again at around 9 months out.
  20. I’m 15 months out from a revision (gerd caused by hernia), have been at goal for about 11 of those months and maintain on around 1300-1500 calories a day. Most of the meals I eat are pretty plant-based as most animal protein sits heavy these days. These are pretty typical days when I’ve packed all my meals for the day for work. The red blender bottle is a green smoothie with kale, spinach, a frozen fruit, protein powder and almond milk. The little thermos is almost always some kind of vegetable heavy soup. The calories for the day are pictured after each one. While they’re convenience food heavy (protein shakes and bars) I know that’s what I need at work as I rarely have time to sit and eat regularly meals. As you get closer to surgery and after surgery you’ll eventually find what works for you and you’ll be able to better gage hunger/fullness cues, what your body needs and the calories you’ll need. For now, work on tracking what you eat and making small changes, mindful eating, and finding ways to make your favorite dishes healthier. If you ever have questions we’re here to help the best we can even if that means directing you back to your surgery team and dietitian.
  21. If you have had the sleeve revision surgery, were you required to do the drawn out preop?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

StratusPhr, No I had a gastric sleeve on Nov 3. Best of luck with your revision. At least you are totally aware of what the next month will be like.
  23. I am having revision surgery on December 17th. I am still waiting for cardiac clearance and I'm more nervous than the first time. I guess because I am 10 years older.
  24. Hello! For those that have gotten the revision because of the GERD, did you feel relief immediately or did it take some time? My revision from sleeve to bypass was on 10/27, however I still feel GERD. I’ve heard some ppl say they felt immediate relief and others that it takes time. Can you all tell me what was your experience please. I am praying it goes away. The main reason I got the revision was for relief.

    GERD after Revision! Please help!

Hello. I had a revision on 11/5 and my GERD went away immediately. I’ve had a few instances where I felt slight heartburn but it went away quickly.
