What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Amy Braun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think I was about 5-6 months out with my sleeve and about 3-4 months out when I had my revision. The perks of jerky is that you really have to chew it so it gave a lot of oral satisfaction which was nice. -
Considering revision

I’m on the same boat Rachel. I had the sleeve in 2013. Dropped 100 pounds but have gained 65 back. I want to look into a revision. My job has open enrollment and there’s a plan that covers bariatric surgery. -
January Surgery buddies
gabbykittyvsg replied to Tinats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm crossing my fingers for a January date for my hernia repair and sleeve to bypass revision. Once insurance approves it will only be a few weeks. I'll hear from insurance by Christmas, it will be a very merry Christmas for me! I had my sleeve 7 years ago right before Thanksgiving. Sadly I developed some nasty GERD that has caused severe damage to my esophagus, as well as developed a large hiatal hernia. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Medically supervised weight loss visits for revision due to GERD?
gabbykittyvsg replied to chach123's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My surgeon's experience is that people usually don't have to jump through the hoops again because the revision is necessary for reasons other than weight loss Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -
I've been video-conferencing weekly with a highly recommended counselor who specializes in eating disorders @$115/hour. However, while she is both a dietitian and a counselor she usually works with bulimics, anorexics, or bingers. I don't have those problems. The first few sessions were frustrating because she kept up her usual spiel directed to those forms of disordered eating. I gave her a list of reference books before our first session, but it was obvious she had not read any of them. I had to educate her on food addiction, bariatric surgery, and my experience with my own wonky metabolism. I sought a counselor because I've gone off the rails a few times while pre-op when confronted with some really delectable food in front of me that I could not resist--namely coffee cake, strudel, pizza, Irish soda bread. As soon as I ate them my sugar/flour addiction was triggered and it took weeks to get over withdrawal again and to get back on track with my pre-op food plan. I don't want to do that after surgery so I was looking for tips and tricks for avoidance of temptation. Well, I'm not getting that type of advice. However, I am getting nutritional/dietetic information that I have not gotten from my clinic's nutritionists. I'll keep talking to her for the next two weeks because my RNY-RNY revision is just 17 days away. I'll wait and see post-surgery. The honeymoon period won't be difficult to me. The problem will arise once I'm eating "real food" again. Good luck finding a compatible counselor at a reasonable session cost.

7 yrs post sleeve---now revising to RNY due to GERD
gabbykittyvsg posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hey all, I'm back because I've developed severe GERD, esophagitis and a large hiatal hernia. I had an endoscopy this past Tuesday and they found my hiatal hernia was classified as large, several superficial ulcers, severe reflux/GERD. The esophagram I had a few weeks ago showed esophageal spasms and the results of the endoscopy indicate the spasms are due to the acid reflux. I frequently throw up my food due to the coughing triggered by the spasms. Fun times I tell ya! I saw my surgeon Wednesday and I was already thinking about hiatal hernia repair and asking about if she could do the RNY conversion at the same time. Well, she brought that up before I could. She gave me a few options and the repair and conversion is what I felt most comfortable with. She's having her prior authorization person working on the insurance part. I should hear something before Christmas. We're looking at a possible date of early to mid-January. -
December 2021 Friends?
Sunnyway replied to EllieV's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My RNY-RNY revision is now scheduled for December 21. I am so ready! I just hope that it doesn't get postponed due to COVID. I was told that all of the hospitals in my area are full due to COVID patients, but the clinic is reevaluating the surgery schedule week by week. -
Medically supervised weight loss visits for revision due to GERD?
Daddyof4 replied to chach123's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I got my lapband in 2012 and got down to 206 from a high of 293. When I complained about my horrendous reflux the doctor took the fluid out of the band. The reflux eased up but I put on 50 pounds very quickly. I am in the process of qualifying for revision surgery. Federal BCBS requires the whole program again to qualify for the revision to bypass. In my case the revision is totally considered bariatric surgery. -

Medically supervised weight loss visits for revision due to GERD?
chach123 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So I was sleeved almost 7 years ago. I've had horrible GERD pretty much ever since. There has also been some weight regain. If my insurance covers the revision surgery, will I have to do the months of supervised weight loss, or would I skip that since it's medically necessary? I'm looking to research all options....I hate having to take pills for the reflux. I know it's a question for my dr or insurance company, just wanted to see everyone else's experience. Scared to do another surgery!! -
Considering revision
Rachelm1985 replied to Rachelm1985's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Unfortunately, I have moved since my surgery so I am no longer in touch with my original surgeon. I am waiting on a referral from my doctor for the revision at the moment. I don't know much about the DS in comparison to the bypass. I know a few people who have the RNY though. Thank you for your suggestions! -
Hello. I’m new to this forum. Got a lapband in 2011. Overall it’s been successful. Starting weight was 255, I now weigh 198. My weight is stable. But…. I am now having a large amount of reflux and nighttime coughing. I’m worried about my esophagus and I am starting to consider revision surgery. But… my BMI is now 33. Which is great, except I’m discovering that is too low to qualify for revision surgery through insurance. But if I get the lapband taken out without any other help, the weight will not stay off. And I’d much prefer to just have one surgery instead of two. I’m only about 6 lbs under my insurance’s minimum BMI of 35. What do people do in this case? Wear ankle weights to the doctor? Just try to gain the 6lbs through milkshakes? Any advice appreciated.

Anyone's primary doctor was against the operation?
vikingbeast replied to Starky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have GERD now, then you should opt for a gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y, always abbreviated RNY here). It's literally the solution for GERD and sometimes when vertical gastric sleeve (VSG) patients get GERD post-op, they revise the surgery to RNY. So let me ask you this: what's worse for your health? Having to monitor your blood levels of vitamins and supplement, or being obese and developing comorbidities? You'll find a LOT of people think that surgery is somehow a way of "cheating". Don't listen to those idiots, who've never looked into it. -
Information Vs. Support
Sunnyway replied to Maisey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm a fan of Matthew Weiner, MD, and his website & videos. I've been following A Pound of Cure philosophy since I began going to my bariatric clinic. I've lost over 50 lbs pre-op. I think his nutritional advice is better than my clinic's. For example, my clinic didn't want me to eat fruit! Can you imagine 8 months without fruit? I'm not totally following his food plan, but am inching my way through the the stations. My vegan friend has shared some of her favorite recipes so many of my meals are animal protein-free. I've cut out sugar, flour, rice, potatoes, pasta, and processed foods. I'm still dependent upon artificial sweeteners, but once I've graduated from protein drinks I'm going to work harder on that. My RNY to RNY revision is just three weeks away now! -

scollins707 replied to Rachelm1985's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Are you in touch with your original surgeon? I started there, and my surgeon refused to help me. After that, I started reading about the revision options. I did a lot of reading and decided I wanted the DS, but the doctor I went to only does the SADI. Weight loss is slower than my original surgery, but that's expected. Check your insurance plan and see if there is any language regarding revisions. If your not in touch with your surgeon, I say look at the bariatric institute UTAH. My surgeon was Dr. Medlin. -
Hello! I am new to the forum but hoping to be more active. I have been considering a revision for quite some time now and would love people's opinions and possibly some experience with revisions. I am not sure if I want to have my gastric sleeve resized, have it converted into a DS or possibly have it converted into a RNY. For some backstory: I got the gastric sleeve almost 8 years ago and I feel like I did rather well, I lost roughly 100 lbs total. I maintained this weight loss for about 4 years doing extremely well. I then ended up getting pregnant with my daughter in 2017. I have medical conditions as well that makes weight loss extremely difficult too (I have PCOS and possibly hypothyroidism.) I ended up gaining back 60 lbs and for the life of me cannot lose it. I tried exercise, many different diets (low calorie/high protein, low carb, and keto with no luck. The only thing that seemed to work for me was the sleeve. I definitely want the surgery revised in some way but I am unsure how to proceed. Does anyone have any advice? It would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Revision from sleeve to Rny bc of gerd
kimdlawson06 replied to Maria Castillo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision on 11/5 due to GERD and regain due to my thyroid. I noticed the difference immediately. However the past few days I noticed slight discomfort but nothing like before. I’m a little concerned because it’s been 3 weeks and I’m only down 13 pounds. -
Sleeve to Gastric Bypass-cancer survivor
ocdennise posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was sleeved Oct 2013 & lost 90lbs (gained back 20 lbs) but never got to goal weight or close. I really committed to changing my lifestyle; exercising (running & weight lifting) & used myfitness pal to log food. I felt great & looked great. Then, life unraveled. In 2016 found out my husband of 20yrs was cheating on me, I realized he was an alcoholic & we divorced, I was laid off from my job & then diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. My kids were 10 & 12 at the time & I had no family to help me (both parents deceased & brother lives 3hrs away by plane). I went through 9hr surgery to remove a foot of my colon & then 7 mos of chemo & steroids. I put on 60lbs during chemo & have not been able to lose it. I had a bad fall after last chemo treatment from neuropathy in feet. I have so much pain in my knees I can’t run. Don’t know if all due to excess weight, arthritis (I’m 54), chemo, menopause? I finished my ins requirements for a revision & scheduling revision to bypass is next. But, I am so hard on myself & questioning if it will work and if I shouldn’t be messing with my body especially surviving cancer? I have regained all my weight &depressed. I hate the way I look & struggle with trying to be happy I am alive after cancer. I have heard weight loss is slower after revision. Is that always the case? Anyone else have cancer after wls & regained and had revision? I feel lost. I miss the adrenaline I used to get from working out. -
Acid Reflux or GERD post surgery
Jd101 replied to Angelina1210's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had acid reflux at least 3-4 times a week before surgery sometimes more. I discussed this with my Dr because I did not want to end up having a revision because of it getting worse. He said that out of the thousands of surgeries he has done he could count on one hand how many actually had a revision and not all of them were because of reflux. I may be one of the few but I have not had reflux since I started my pre op diet and I am 7 months out. -
RNY to RNY revision.
Sunnyway replied to ShannonCorbin's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm at 266 right now, pre-surgery. I'm optimistic having read your status at 2.5 months. I'm hoping to break 200 after the revision. I haven't seen "onederland" since college. I dare not even dream of a lower target weight. I have done so well pre-surgery that people are asking why I want to go ahead with the revision. I was stalled for 10 weeks and thought I had bottomed out. However, this week I have just dropped a few pounds. I still don't have a surgery date, but that may be due to the rise in COVID cases In my area. -
RNY to RNY revision.
elp93 replied to ShannonCorbin's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did an RNY revision to distal rny. I am 2.5 months out and was 266 two week before my surgery and today I was 216.4 (weight in the afternoon after eating). I have a toddler so not picking at her leftovers was an issue but the longer you stick with it the better it is! Also, you learn from your previous mistakes with your last surgery. I felt terrible after my first surgery but I’m taking my vitamins diligently and eating good and I’m so glad I did it! I’m going to start going to the gym soon too 🙂 -
Hi how did your surgery experience go? I am waiting for an appointment with Dr. Hagen. I have a Lapband and hope to revise to a sleeve.
