I’m 8 weeks out now. Can I have a coffee yet?
Toomanytacos replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
T! YES! I was drinking decaff the first week after surgery, day 2 after surgery. I wasn't supposed to drink caffeine for a month out, but I hate teh taste of decaff coffee. Yuck. But so I drank regular coffee a week out, until now I not only lived. I didn't get dehydrated There are some rules that are put in place "just in case" but you should be fine The reason for the decaff instead of caffee, is bc caffeine tends to make you pe more, and they are afraid you'll become dehydrated since you can't drink as much liquids right after surgery Enjoy! -

I had coffee right away too and used monk fruit sweetener while I was healing. They worry about letting us have it too soon bc of the acid as well as being a diarrhetic so just drink an extra glass of water!! 8 weeks out you shld be totally fine Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150 -
I've really grown to love these shakes. I used to work at medical weight loss clinic and I know the prices are a rip off! Wondering if anyone knows of a similiar shake but in a big 2# tub? I really am looking for the texture here bc they are thicker than an average protein shake. Thanks! Sent from my LGMP450 using BariatricPal mobile app

August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I’ve also given away tons and tons and literally have 6-8 pieces of clothing I mix and match. Now that it is starting to warm up, I’m panicking bc all I have is winter stuff. It feels really, really good to have a really well cleaned out closet but I do look like I’m wearing a uniform with such a small wardrobe! I hate eating out now!
Healthy_life2 replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't use my bariatric card. I love going out to restaurants to eat. You can absolutely make it worth your money and make healthy choices. Get a take home box. Makes for a great lunch or dinner the next day. The joy of a meal without cooking. Google restaurant menus before you go: (especially if you are traveling) Every restaurant has protein and vegetables. ( Beef, fish, poultry dishes) They have no problem replacing the carb choice with extra veggies..Just ask. Some have healthy lite menu items. I do fast food rarely - It's because the quality of the food sucks. - A few things I order on the run.. Carl's Jr. Low carb natural grass fed burger. Most burger restaurants will do lettuce wrapped burgers or I don't eat the bun. I prefer turkey burger patties - Just me..lol Love cafe zupas high quality great salads. qdoba childrens burrito bowl. Chicken or beef - beans/black or pinto - veggie- cheese -salsa - guacamole (no rice or tortilla ) -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I’m down about 70 lbs and I’ve had several people ask me if I’ve changed my hair. I’m hoping they’re just being a bit awkward bc I’m hoping that 70lbs is much more noticeable than a hair cut. But at the same time when someone says I look like a whole new person, I feel weird. I never knew this part of the journey was going to be uncomfortable. I didn’t struggle with weight until after my kids and gained over 100lbs so when people tell me I look like a whole new person, I actually just look like me again. I’ve also been dealing with not grasping the fact that I’m not 256 lbs anymore and am afraid to embrace my new weight. I’m so used to failing over and over again in the weight loss department that I’m terrified to let this be real. Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150 -

To tell or not to tell
MrsGamgee replied to beccaconaty87's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Here's my perspective... it works for me. It may not be your thing and that's cool. I'm another who has chosen to be open about my choice to pursue WLS. I talk about it with friends and family, on social media, and I've even been known to talk to a stranger or two about it (when health issues are part of the conversation). I also think it's time for the stigma around WLS to die, and I think we need to be the ones to make that happen. Nine years ago I went through 2 miscarriages and 2 chemical pregnancies (when you miscarry a month or less into pregnancy). No one in my connection, to my knowledge at that point, had ever dealt with recurrent pregnancy loss. It was only when I talked about it openly that others, some who I had known for years, some who were in my family, felt like it was okay to talk about their similar experiences. Instead of struggling alone, we were able to provide support to one another. Does it mean I've had an impact on my little corner of the world? Yes and no. There are still members of my family that are uncomfortable with the fact that our kids know the names we gave our lost babies. Do I care? Not in the least. When someone has cancer, or lupus, or MS there is no stigma about talking about their treatments. I look at WLS, obesity, and my co-morbidities the same way. If I'm honest about my experiences on this journey, then perhaps I might change one person's perspective on WLS or encourage one person to seek out more info for themselves. We live in a time and culture where it is acceptable to mock, denigrate, judge, and belittle people who are overweight and obese, and yet it isn't socially acceptable for us to seek medical intervention to remedy that particular 'moral failing'. I call BS on that and choose to talk about it. -
So tomorrow morning at 8am I am to report to the hospital. Can't believe it's finally here! Now I'm terrified bc I have a cold and my nose is all stuffy. No fever or anything. I'm praying they don't canx on me....anyone ever have a cold and still gave their procedure done???

When do you bite the bullet....
Miss Topaz replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Closet shopping is the best! I did get fed up with my work pants sagging to my knees and went to the local outlet mall, and to kohls armed with a 30% off coupon and picked up a few things. It's amazing how much better you feel when your pants fit! I also instituted 'yoga pants friday' at the office so I can wear stretchy pants on Friday since they last so much longer while we lose. -
I’m 3 days post op and got most of the gas out at the hospital. They really get u moving so that helped. Very sore, but each days get a little bit easier. Not sleeping well bc I’m a stomach sleeper and can’t just yet. I’m not quite getting my protein in. First day home I only did 30g of protein and water. It was tough to drink so slowly and afraid of drinking too much. But today It’s easier to drink, just not where I should be still with protein intake and fluids

So after 4+ months of going through all the insurance prerequisites (sleep study, heart test, psych eval, EGD, nutrition classes) I've been approved, but I'm really starting to have doubts about the facility. First, they tried to rush me into a surgery date that doesn't work for me (I have no one available to take me that day. They wanted me to take an Uber!), second, turned out that the reason they refused a later date for me was because my surgeon was no longer going to be at the facility (meaning I'd never even see her again for aftercare). Third, I want a night or two in the hospital and they only operate on outpatient basis. Fourth, they take ages to return my phonecalls! I leave messages for my coordinator over and over and right now I'm still waiting on a return call from Monday (it's Friday). Any single issue, I could likely cope with, but this has gotten out of hand! I found a surgeon that is closer to me and so far, checks all my boxes, plus he has stellar reviews, unlike the facility I was going with initially (the reviews were decent, but it turned out that the surgeon with the good reviews was no longer there, and they have crazy high turnover). How much will I have to redo to change providers? I honestly don't care if it's everything, as long as it doesn't take another 4 months. My insurance letter (BCBS Fed), states I'm approved for 6 months at that facility. So will all the tests I've had done transfer to the new place? I'm terrified to have another heart test, because they had to do a chemical stress test and it was awful. The sleep study was also pretty bad because I have fibromyalgia. Any info will be so appreciated!

Hydration issues after surgery
BRENDAJAIN replied to logicwand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m having the same issue. I really can’t drink and I get these really bad pains sometimes followed by nausea... my first thought was that I was dehydrated bc that’s what they tell u, nausea it’s a sign of dehydration, idk how to drink more, I really can’t. Same with my protein. -
I totally agree! I refused to drink the recommended Premier Protein drinks. I am alternating Primal Protein mix and Jay Robb grass fed mixes. They have stevia but I feel that is the least of the enemies. Glad to see someone else shares my concerns! Sent from my SM-G900T using BariatricPal mobile app

Mine was on the 5th too and yesterday was my grim day - didn't quite have regret, but certainly did get completely fed up with the combination of gas, nausea and abdominal pain. But today I've been able to drink a lot of protein and water with Crystal Lite in it, as well as some fruit teas and feel almost back to normal. I was able to put in a half day of work (remotely) before tapping out and climbing back into bed for a nap. I'm using an app called WaterMinder to track hydration and put all of my liquids into either marked mason jars or S'well bottles with specific volumes. I'm not on any pain meds other than Tylenol, I've got some pills for heartburn and anti-nausea. I'm weighing myself on a smart scale and deliberately not looking at the number, I'll just look at the pattern in a few weeks when I'm less weird about the whole thing. Right now I'm just going to focus on vitamins, minerals, protein and fluids. I'm looking forward to the weekend, the combination of walking and resting and just generally healing up feels like it will be accelerated. Luckily I'm not hungry or craving anything, the flavored fluids seem to be checking that box.

I know they say afterward people are tired bc of the lack of calorie intake. Anyone tired during the pre-op liquid diet? I’m exhausted but I also feel like I may be getting sick. Surgery is scheduled for Monday please cross your fingers for me!

Waiting is the worst part
frust8 replied to Elizabeth 06388's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah Keira Fae I agree. Where in the True North are you located? We seem to have a couple in B.C. , 2-3 in Alberta, some in Ontario but nobody from P.Q. or the Maritimes. And no Yukon, Northwest Territory et all. Do no First Nations people seek surgery? I'm in Ohio, was in BC for the Centennial of Confederation, otherwise I've been to Pelee Island, Point Pelee, Kingsvilee and Leamington Ontario. Have a peaceful smooth day. February Surgery Buddies!
FluffyChix replied to Lyds85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, not that I have the answers, but this is what I was doing. Maybe it will help? 1Brekky - decaff coffee and 9-10oz Premier Protein as creamer (23g P) 2nd Brekky - 1 egg softboiled (6g P) MS - Egg Salad (6g P) L - Egg Salad (6g P) AS - Yogurt/Cottage Cheese/Applesauce (15g P) D - 1.5oz dense protein of some kind (9g P) BS - Yogurt/Cottage Cheese/WF Blueberry Syrup (10g P) 75g P for the day! Voila!!! It's a lot of meals, but in the beginning we're only supposed to eat 1/4c of food max. As our volume increases, meals decrease. And you're only taking in 23g of P from protein drinks even only 2-3 weeks out? Hope that helps. Just word: MAKE SURE your poop chute is cleaned out from all the stuck-in crap from surgery or you will have constipation/blockages like nobody's beeswax!!! -
March 29th. Traveling from NJ to Dallas bc I’m self pay and it is infinitely more affordable there. I am so beyond excited!!!!!!

Out With the Old--In With the New!
Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don’t worry too much - even when I feel hungry and have food, the serving is still maybe 1/4 what I used to eat. It is kinda hard to describe, but I don’t so much get full as... lose interest. Lose the drive to have another mouthful. Get distracted from eating. And so, stop. This is a new experience for someone who binge ate until I was uncomfortable, BS (Before Surgery). -
Yay! I call bs on the divorce rate as well, I mean how many people were actually polled and then compared to the national divorce rate based on 'what demographics'?
-
My wife had it 5 years ago. I had mine 11-15-2017. I supported her in her journey and she returned the favor on mine. Going on 33 years together no problems here.....that post on the divorce rate, I call BS
