Your ice cream and popsicles comment made me laugh because the doctor was telling me I had to eat soft foods and he asked me if I understood. I was like Dude...I have a Lap Band, so yeah, I know from a soft diet.
I'm SO not looking forward to this, so I appreciate your kind words. Hugs, chica!

GM Isa,
How are you doing today? Were you able to stop by Dr. Martin and Dr. Lourie's Office? I'm going to call my insurance today and also Dr. Martin so see if he is still part of my medical group. I will probably switch if my visits are covered.
Yes, I was very excited about my first fill as well. At first I couldn't tell the difference but now I can. I have less food choice and I keep getting stuck because i'm not chewing properly lol I have to slow down. It's a matter of getting used to it. Hopefully I will learn soon. Being stuck is sooo uncomfortable and painful.
I'm doing much better thanks for asking. How are things going for you? Hopefully nice and smoothly.
Please let me know how it went.

I am the one in the black dress. My feet have been killing me all Summer long!!! I can barely walk some days. I have been playing with the idea of this Lap band thing for the past year!!! NOW I am at the point where I am not going to be FAT at 40. I want to be healthy for my children and myself. Girl I can share with you some TMI stories. You know "US" Capricorns have stories like no other. I don't like to vomit at all and I hope my body remembers that when I finally have the surgery.
Well, I have the prayers going to GOD that he continues to keep you as you get over your FOOD addiction through the surgery!! lol That is what I call my love of food an addiction.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I am really struggling with this low carb diet especially when I read that other people on here are eating up to their surgery date. My doctor said that eating low carb /low fat will shrink my liver.... I sure hope it works! They are planning to do the one incision through the belly button and for them to do this successfully the liver has to be smaller in size... I don't know, we'll see though. I lost a few more pounds and I am super excited about that, because it's suppose to help them pull this new technique off! Anyway wish me luck guys. I'm getting ready to fix me some low carb/low fat foods. lol!

Hello msdeneedn2004:
Congrats on finally getting banded!! You will be absolutely surprised at how fast you will start losing pounds. I am not going to lie...you are entering what I call the "hell foods phase". The liquid diet thing was the hardest for me, but you will make it through. You'll be at your goal before you know it. Feel free to message/email me if you need to. I love making new band buddies. Good luck. You'll do great.

Hello Zendada,
Thanks for the well wishes. I am doing my low carb, low fat and low everything else diet right now! lol! This is not so bad, but tomorrow, I will be on a 24hr clear liquid diet! yikes! I just hope by not having food, it won't make me want to vomit! I've tried to do this once before and for some reason I got very sick on the stomach! How are you doing?
Please keep me posted on your status and take care.

Day 23 and it finally happened.... horrible pressure, panic, and then vomit. I ate a hamburger and tomato the night before... just cut, chewed, and went slow... no problem. This morning I was running late, took a big drink of water and bite of my son's birthday cake..... 20 minutes of jumping, crying, freaking out.... and then it came back up! *and I'm dealing with that huge custom cake sitting in the kitchen that I'm afraid to even nibble on. So my "new relationship" with food is now fear. OH NO!

Hey I am like you I love the pot roast! Roast period, yummy, if I can't have much food then give me the food I love!!?? Right? I substituted the potatoes with asparagus and brussel sprouts at the last minute, still had the carrots and they are soooo goood in the soup portion. Just miss the Southern Corn Bread that went with it! LOL but If I ate the bread, then I would not be able to hold the stew. I am looking forward to fall, it is my favorite time of year.

Hey Jennifer,
Today sucked for me. How are you? My fever went down. We wound up finding adult liquid tylenol at CVS after my husband called all over the place looking for it, no one told him it was on the shelf. Give me a call if you feel like it. I will email you my number
I had such a bad headache all of last night. The pure liquid diet is really difficult. It wasn't so bad pre op bec we had that meal to look forward to. I am also hating crushing up all of my regular medications. They taste horrible.
We'll get through this right?

Hi Geri, really glad to hear from you as I'd been thinking of you. Have you been getting plenty of protein? Which food stage are you at now? Geri, did you get plenty of info to help with food choices for the different stages, healthy choices + ideas for snacks etc? I could make copies of my notes for you.
Geri, would love to meet up sometime! It would just be fab to have a friend whose going thru this as well. we could support each other.
Geri, hang in there, you have done the right thing! It does get easier as your understanding of how the band works grows!
take care,
Maree

Well thanks for commenting:thumbup: on my post! It went well, I ate a small amount before going to the Dr. and on the drive over it came up, I was so frustrated and then I got on the scales and I was 3 lbs up!! The Dr. came in and we talked, this has gone on since my last fill and got more severe on my cruise! He put me under the exray and saw the swelling around my port and band immediately! The upchucking had caused irritation and swelling causing the band to tighten! So he removed .04ccs and then I had liquids for 48 hours, then I ate and I was so full and the food stayed down! How wonderful, I feel satisfied too.
I did not know it, but with a too tight band, you will NOT lose weight, when you throw up, you eat more to try and get something to go in and it may be all the wrong things!
I am checking out the recipes you have and going to try them now that I can eat again! We do have to learn to live this life after the LAP-BAND?! I am going back to the Gym next week too.

by the way, I actually know how to spell "grateful". It's amazing what you miss when typing and thinking at the same time
.
Try some beans with salsa and cheese! I'm sure that is "mushie" stage stuff. I had never heard about mushies til coming to this site; I was just told the liquids for two weeks, then whatever my body would tolerate....I'm still in the pretty soft food stage, although I eat crackers (the new wheat thin cheese ones taste really good, and are really crisp).
So, have a good weekend...going yard sale shopping with my friend this weekend, and algebra homework...Cant remember if I told you I was a student or not, but this next week is my finals in algebra...interesting to be in college at my age with a whole bunch of kiddies...kinda fun. Take care and look forward to hearing from you!

Memorial day...to date I have lost 74 lbs. Life is getting better by the day. Can't ask for better than that. Weight loss is slower powst-op than I thoguht, but the weight did not come on overnight, so what can I expect? I am working out 3 days per week, mostly water aerobics. Only 3 times that I have had food stuck and it made me sick, so now I am being extra careful. I want to succeed and have no isses. I want to be at goal I by Christmas. I have redone my wardrobe already once, and getting ready to do it again within the next month.

Well I was just banded the 17th. I lost 34 pounds before surgery and only 5 since the 17th. Its kind of frustrating, but I cant expect much, all i did for the first week was lay around and recover. I need to start working out. Im looking forward to being able to eat normal foods * one more week* so I can make better choices and I need to start working out and then hopefully I will start seeing the scale move a bit more!

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. I have not been banded yet, but I am starting to limit the amount of food(s) am eating throughout the day. I continue to tell myself that being thinner is much more appealing than anything I can put into my mouth. I am praying for God to give me the will power I need to control my desire for food. I trying to reprogram my mind of all the bad habits I've practiced for so very long. Thanks.

Hi there! Just wanted to see how you're doing after your Dr. visit? I agree with the others that you were/are too tight, but I'm sure your Doc figured it out and you're back on track. They call what you described 'soft food syndrome' and it's typical not to lose weight when you're eating sliders as the Band is meant to work with solid protein/etc.
Hope the Doc got you back on track and thanks for the lovely comment/info. -BG

yes it did go away thank God because i was kind of getting scared!!
So how are you doing with the food stages and what stage are you at now?
-
Hi, Cynthia! Yes, I got a meal plan from my doctor. It's very, very simple.
For the first 2 days, it's clear liquids. Then:
Weeks 1-2: pureed protein, 3 Tbs 3x/day; bariatric vitamin
Weeks 3-4: 1.5-2 oz. of soft, moist protein (meat, eggs, fish, poultry) 3x/day/ bariatric multivitamin
Weeks 5-6: All protein allowed--2 serving 3x/day; bariatric multivitamin
Weeks 7-8: 2-2.5 ounces protein 3x/day; bariatric multivitamin
Week 9: 2.5 ounces protein 3x/day; bariatric multivitamin
Week 10-11: 2.5-3 ounces protein 3x/day, add 1/2 cup nonstarchy veggies 1x/day; bariatric multivitamin
Week 12: 3 ounces protein 3x/day, 1/2 cup nonstarchy veggie 1x/day' bariatric multivitamin

I'm doing quite well. My first fill is 6 weeks post off, so I think thats some time at the end of June. I am also fighting the head hunger, but I just keep reminding myself that I didn't do this to mess it up.
I have talked to other gals who had the surger and their docs ok'd soft foods after a week or so, so since mine wont do it, I kinda cheated with poached eggs today and some thicker soups. My doc didnt even want me to blend anything... get real!! hehe
Well I am glad to hear that you are doing better, keep me posted on your post op process.

Well for my meals i do make healthy food choices, and as for my protein intake i make sure that every meal i have has some type of protein, so that does include 2 protein shakes a day, but if i don't drink my shakes i get tempted to eat more during my meals... i feel i have no restriction though so i cant wait till i get a fill. My weight is still the same for past two weeks i also workout 3 x a week on the elliptical for 30 min and do weights as well... so that is why i am getting a little discourage...so will see i am hanging in there!!
