  1. Well I know my hubby came here and posted but im to tired and sore to find it so i figured i will just start a new one. Monday april 11th i went in for a lapband. I came out and was told everything went great. by tuesday I still wasnt able to swallow anything and could barely do much of anything. Morphine wasnt helping much. I did a barrum swallow tuesday and it showed nothing going through so my doctor gave me one more day to figure out if the swelling would go down. He gave me throat spray and told me no more Water or ice chips till the next test. Wednesday morning I had another swallow test, same results. it was going through but very very slowly. and my throat was bleeding. so they sent me straight to surgery on wednesday afternoon. over the coarse of the week I had 5 viens collapse and 3 failed iv attempts so they decided to put in a centeral line this time. (while i was under thank god) if you dont know thats a "tube" that goes to your heart from somewhere.. mine was in my arm. I was given two choices, go in and fix the problem or take it all out. My family decided for me because at that point i wanted it all out. I was in tears going under and thats all I remember until I woke up in recovery. I was sent back to my room and slept the rest of the night. I woke up thursday and was able to swallow water and anything they threw at me. I had my first "meal" since sunday thursday for dinner. Good ole chicken broth and tea. i didnt eat very much of it but it sure felt good to know i wasnt starving to death. I did the barrum swallow thursday and evertyhing went straight down with no problems. they kept me another night to make sure things stayed on track. so basically what happened? heh.. i guess i had an extra artery near my esophagus that when the band was placed the swelling around the artery caused acid to eat at my esophagus which caused more swelling, and of course bleeding and pain. during surgery they just went in and took out the extra artery and slapped in the larger band and have no problems now. so now i think im on the "normal" recovery part, except my incesions are twice as sore being opened twice and all. There are a few things that really suck such as not being able to swallow i wasnt able to take my birth control so i'm bleeding pretty bad (pcos, havent had period in a year) and i have really bad diaherra. They dont mention the fact that your gonna be to sore to wipe your ass. I was bit embarassed about this whole ordial. I cant get in and out of bed alone yet im just to sore. and as far as food.. i still am not sure i made the right choice. i want to eat pizza right now so bad. i wonder every minute and everytime it hurts if this was the right decision. my hubby keeps telling me my case wasnt typical if everything wouldve worked out right then i would be fine by now. i find it hard to make myself eat, and drink. i just dont feel like its needed.. i just keep telling myself ill be skinning soon. ill be back soon hopefully feeling better
  2. I have noticed that I loose faster when I don't eat after 5:30pm. But it's soooo hard to do. Dh gets home from work between 6:30 and 7pm on an average night, so I have to see him eating. To make matters worse it seems like he always Snacks after dinner and a few times a week asks me to make something like apple crisp for him at night. I'm soooo bad and end up licking the bowl. At least I can have dinner with the kids just before 5pm. So anyone want to join my no eating after dinner challenge/support thread? -Leena

  5. It's been a while since I have been on here. I was banded on 2/27/08. Since then I have only lost 28 pounds both pre-op and post-op. I have maintained that weight and can't loose anymore. I am completely stumped as to what is going on here. I stopped going to my band doc 6 months ago due to insurance. I have new insurance that will start up in Nov and will go then. So I am hoping I can get some advise from you guys. I am currently at 7cc in a 10cc band. I know I cant go more(tried 7.1 and no go)and if I go less I get hungry and eat more. I was told I was at my "sweet spot" by the fill Nurse. I don't eat but twice a day, which the doc told me was fine. I can not eat before noon, and can only eat limited portions 1/2 cup. I am not able to eat any breads and limit myself on whole wheat noodles (very rare I eat them). I had to change from eating red meat to eating turkey. I eat chicken and fish. I know what I am supposed to eat and I eat healthy and more proteins than veg, can't eat sweets cause they make me sick to my stomach. I eat a lot of salads. I exercise twice a week with walking. I have a lot of mobility problems with MS. So I do what I can tolerate. The only time I lost weight is when I first weeks out of surgery and could only eat liquids, and with the pre-op diet as well. I also started to have burning sensation in my esophagus when I eat on occasion. When I had surgery for the band they also had to repair a hiatal hernia. I have read about some slippages from the band can cause the reflux. I hope that is not the case with me, because if they have to go in to repair. I am converting to gastric bypass because I got this to help me loose weight and all weight lost was on liquids. Have any of you had or have the same issues that I am having. I read that some people have, but it was due to bad eating habits. I don’t have that problem. My primary doctor doesn't understand either. He did thyroid test on me thinking that was the issue, or medications.......Could it be what I drink? I don't drink water a lot and drink tea. Occasionally a Dr. Pepper or wine( like twice a month). Please any advise or just someone who has been in the same situation...Thanks for listening.
  6. Well all I am 1 year and almost 1 month post op. I am 3 lbs from loosing one hundred pounds, and I am feeling wonderful. However not so wonderful when I eat just about anything really. I can eat and within minutes to an hour I feel so sick that I gag and vomit on most occasions. I had complications in the begining and I am concerned that they are going to be long term if permanent complications. I am still only able to eat very little which is great, but that very little makes me feel like I have been hit by a Mack Truck and it sits and hurts until it comes back up. I hate that I am still going through so much, but you know what I look at the plus side of it. I am reaching my goal and I am loving the new me!!! Did you or are you having these problems??

    Break a platue?

Need help. My body went down to the weight I had been for many years and just stopped. I lost 60lbs in the first 3months and nothing in the next 3 months. How to I overcome this? I have tried bumping up my protein and how many steps I get each day. I am still only able to eat1/4-1/3 cup of food at each sitting. I still can't drink water but I stay hydrated on milk 4 cups daily. Any ideas or suggestions? I just want to move a little more. I still have 50 lbs to loose according to my surgeon. Thank you for your time.

    2-1/2 Weeks

So Happy that my surgery is only 2-1/2 weeks away!!! I have been working on getting my house clean this week and today and man till today I didn't realize how much my weight holds me back. I did most of the cleaning this week and today I just swept the rug up in my hallway upstairs cause it's a low pile rug and I wanted to get all the fuzzy's up and my vacuum is a POS, so I did that and it's only about 15 feet long then swept it down the stairs which there is only 10 stairs with a little landing in the middle and I am sweating like no other and now I just want to take a shower cause I feel like crap? So I don't think I am getting much more done today. I can't believe just how far I let myself get, and how much it holds me back. I am lucky I have a wonderful boyfriend that will help me out with the house cleaning and keeping it up, and my kids well they will when they realize what I just went through after the surgery. They don't know yet, cause I don't want them telling their father or mostly their fathers girlfriend, she thinks I take drugs to loose weight, but i am the biggest anti drug person I know. I don't drink alcohol, and I definitely don't do drugs. So I have decided that I won't tell them till the day before. I just got my paperwork in from the doctor yesterday confirming my date and time for my appointments coming up and I am super excited for all this to begin. I have to go to the hospital where I am having the procedure done on the 4th at 9:30 and then to my doctors right after I am done there, then start my 2 week diet the 5th, and then on the 19th I need to be at the hospital at 6 am for a 9 am surgery. I am going to have to figure out what I will do with my kids that morning so that I can get them off to school, but I am sure my mom will help me out. So I am ready and nothing is stopping me now. I hope that everyone that has their surgeries coming up in march and in the future good luck!!! I know much this means to me, so I know how much this must mean to you too!!
  9. First let me apoloize about the spelling. I was banded on June 3rd, I spent the night in the hospital and I am so thankful for it. In pre-op my doctor was telling me he was going to send me home because I was the first patient of the day (8am was time of surgery) and he said "Oh, we send home 80% of our patients the same day." Thankfully my insurance covered an overnight stay because I couldn't have imagained coming home the same day. Besides there wouldn't have been anyone home with me the first night and to have someone there is a complete nessacity. I can't stress enough how much you need people there. Other things I needed, one of those EZ grabbers. It's got a attached shoe horn and you can pick up anything. Unless you can pick these up off the floor without bending your waist, you'll need something or someone to pick things up for you. Meds for the nausea, I threw up 4 times post-op, of course nothing came up, but the dry heaving was horrible. I was so worried about my band slipping, but the doctor took a look at it yesterday and said it looked good. Extra pillows to sit up in bed or sleep sitting up. I tried to sleep lying down last night and ended up flat on my back which was the most horribly uncomfortable position. Took me forever to get up on my own from there. I stood up 5 pillows and slept sitting up the rest of the night, but I didn't sleep long (even with the vicodin). I was just really uncomfortable. Everytime I move I feel as if the skin around my wounds are ripping apart. It's mostly just the biggest one that I worry about and have to hold a lot. The smaller ones I barely feel, except when I sit up or cough (which I've been doing a lot since surgery and the doctor said that was good). I walked a bit yesterday (just around my house and up and down the hallway in the hospital) and will walk again today (hopefully down the street and back). I walk slow and hunched over, but it does feel good to get out of bed. Everyone says it will get rid of gas, but I haven't really had too much gas. Burping a little here and there, nothing else. Surprisingly, I'm not hungry at all. I haven't eaten since monday, but I'm not the least bit hungry. I did get excited about being able to have liquids yesterday because I was very thristy. I got home from the hospital and tried to have half a cup of chicken broth, I threw most of it up. My nausea was very bad up until last night and even now I'm still a bit queasy. I'm on prochlorperazine every 8 hours for it, but I don't think it's working. Late last night I had a ice pop and tried to eat an italian icee, I ate about 1/4 of it and felt like I ate too much. Or perhaps I just wasn't interested in it anymore since it took like half an hour to eat that much. That's a weird feeling. Since then I've been sipping on Water and flat ginger ale. The doctor put me on 90 cc's how much is that in oz or cups? My back does hurt, but I think that's from my weird sleeping arrangements than anything else. I'm just not comfortable at all and I hate it. Then friends and family keep calling to see how I am and I just want to be left alone. I'm not a overally nice person when I'm in pain and uncomfortable and I can't wait to feel better. I know this post probably didn't make any sense, but please I need support, I'm not the only one who is a few days post op and feel like crap right?

    Is It Any Different When....

I'm down from 300 to 270 from 4-24-12 to today 6-6-12 and I'm losing so very slowly , but I still have the saggy or extra hanging skin now even tho losing slow can give u time for ur skin to shrink doesn't mean that is going to happen for everyone, I'm proof of that my tummy is the worse spot , so in a year I'll be having that tummy tuck then I might as well have my breast done . Ins covers it. But my point is losing slow does that always keep u frm having extra gaming skin , and for me slow is doing the same thing as fast would do .

Sounds like they might have used steri-strips which are strips of adhesive paper tape used with an adhesive liquid to help them stick. They will eventually fall off on their own after a week or two. Does it have lines going through it? If so, thats what it is. VergasAngel, as far as allergies, it sounds like perhaps the latex or plastic in the tape and bandaids may cause skin rashes. Ask for paper tape. Most people handle that without problems.
  12. Hi everyone. I got my band on April 17th - just one week ago today! So far, so good. I have had a lot of my questions answered by reading this message board. Thanks to everyone who posts! Today I found a large red rash on the inside of my thighs and on the sensitive inside skin of my upper arms. What the heck? It doesn't itch but looks like hives or something. Anybody had a reaction like this? Jeannie

    Rash at Port Incision-No coincidence

Allergies and sensitivities don't always occur the first time a substance is used. It is possible that you didn't have a reaction to adhesive after your gall bladder surgery, but now you have developed a sensitivity to adhesive following your band. I had a rash from the steri-strips I had over my incisions and when I took the ster-strips off because it was so red and painful, some of my skin came off with three of them! OUCH!! :scared2:I had my two week post-op appointment today, and my surgeon wasn't concerned. I've been trying to keep antibiotic ointment on them to prevent infection and help them heal, but I'm sure it was a reaction to the adhesive. I can't put a bandage over them, because it will just cause more rash, so I'm trying to keep everything off of my belly.

    I think I dumped

I'm 7 months out and have been doing well I've lost 100lbs. The other dau I went to blaze pizza and got a keto crust pizza with no sugar sauce and smoked ham with a few veggies. Ate 1 slice (I've done this several times before) the next day yesterday at lunch i ate 1 slice then some watermelon of which I've had before. 2 hours later AT WORK my hands started to shake and my heart rate went to over 100 I felt so weak almost faint I was able to get home and I fell into the bed TERRIFIED. I never had pain, nausea, or loose stool. I laid there in a stupor for about 2or3 hours and it went away. Okay family. WTF was that? Was it the watermelon juice pushing the food thru to fast? What? Please put your thinking caps on because now I have ALL food anxiety!

    To Tummy Tuck or Not?

I want one!!!! I figure I spent this much time, money, and effort to get back to a healthy weight that I want to look good too! I dont know about it actually being necessary, but I know that skin only shrinks back so much and that places that have stretch marks will shrink back the LEAST...since they have already stretched past normal elasticity. I dont think anyone can predict if you will need or want a tummy tuck at goal, but it is hard to gain and lose 100+ lbs without having some areas that dont bounce back.
  16. the nut told me if you don't get in the right amount of Protein in....you will loose your hair. I'm not sure what else you can do now but increase your protein. Good Luck!
  17. You'll be fine! I was sleeved on Monday, 8/19 and didn't pass gas until yesterday. Now it's like I'm powering a hot air balloon for God's sake. Also had my first (very loose) poop yesterday. Give it some time; I also felt lots of rumblings before anything materialized...but walking is key!

    Exercise questions

I am considering having lapband surgery.I have seen a surgeon & he said I would have to do 1hr of hot sweatty exercise everyday. That seems a little excessive to me. Why not just exercise & watch what you eat & loose that way? I have about 120lbs to loose & have yo-yo dieted for 10years w/no luck. I loose & then regain. Anyone from the Akron, OH area, if so, who was your surgeon?:help: by the way, what is Pbing?

    depression, big time

Maybe it was in the air I was more depressed yesterday than I have been in awhile.. I am 7 months post op and experiencing my 1st true stall.. Plus I have lost about 95lbs and I am 56 so my skin is just doing much for me right now.. Dont get wrong, I am HAPPY that I have lost weight and I plan on losing another 30 at least but the skin thing is weighing heavy on my mind.. I cant decide if I will just stay covered for the rest of my life or invest in surgery.. Not sure surgery would be worth it at my age.. Anyways, sorry I went down my own rat hole.. You hang in there..
  20. Please take some advice on this. My husband is a yr post, he is in an acceptable size and weight and thinks because he lost weight his sleep apnea is cured. It is not, its better but the fact a person has extra skin inside they throat is still there. He won't use his machine and I'm sleeping in the guest room because of the snoring and gagging he does, so please get your new sleep study done before you discontinue using it

    Slime Time!

I too have a very loose band, really need to get in for a fill....I slime/get stuck when I eat too fast and that happens when I am hungry....it is very painful for me until the food passes(up or down) Depending on how long it take and weather I have to throw up or not is how I determine when I can eat again. When I eat slow, I can eat forever, I just get real bad gas. Almost as uncomfortable as being stuck, but not as scarry...

    April 28th getting sleeved!

I feel hungry but I get full super fast. I can describe life now as the same but I feel better in my skin every day. It is so strange when I sit down to eat now cause I still think I am going to be able to eat a certain amount and then my stomach say "Um, NO!" lol. The first day is the hardest but it does get better. When you think of how bad you feel at first just remember it is the drugs they have you on. When i went home the second day I felt like myself again. Keep your head up and eye on the prize, Oh and by the way.....Congratulations!

    Band sizes??

Sultana, Even though I don't want to be a smart ass so early in the morning, I'm going to warn about this anyway, even though I know you know. Jessie Ahroni, the noted band guru, says there are only three adjustments we need to worry about: too loose, too tight and just right. I know that a lot of people--usually Americans, we're famous for it--get hung up on the numbers. And I have observed, ususally among the newly banded, that people want "as much of a fill as" someone else has. But the number of cc's of saline we have is essentially irrelevant. What IS relevant to me is how much restriction I have. In my case, with a 9.75cm band, my ideal fill is around 1.4 to 1.6 cc's, right now, subject to change as my weight and fat and anatomy change. I think my band holds around 4.0 cc's, but all I need to focus on is the level of restriction I have. And, IMHO, whether a fill (or adjustment) is conservative or aggressive is not a function of how many cc's of saline we have, even if we have identical bands, but of how much restriction there is. In other words, your 2.0 would have me completely shut down. Given my anatomy and where my band is placed and all that, 2.0 would be so aggressive as to be malpractice! And yet, you may be underfilled. SOOOOO, it sounds to me as though your doctor was trying to give you a lot more restriction than you had as of the second adjustment. Now you may have to wait. Because I've learned that many people become more restricted a week later. (I don't get that, but it happens.)
  24. I have heard so much about this on here can someone please explain what this is ? I couldn't find the meaning on the search part just that people have hit this stage on their journey. I was banded April 2 2013 an I have had one fill of 2cc so now I have 4cc in band. I watch my portions an stay pretty full for the most part. I am loosing I am proudly finally out if the 200's so also do I need another fill if I'm loosing? Have lost 27 lbs since march 19th. Hoping someone can explain to me an thanks so much in advance for any help!!
