    My 2 month out mark!

dear brandnewme thank you for taking the time to reply! i enjoyed reading it so much, and you know what, you really put me at ease and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Here in South Africa they show reruns from The Fat Doctor from time to time, so I am quite familiar with your NHS process. I am glad that it could happen so fast for you. So funny that you mention Paddington. Last night my partner and I was actually watching the Travel Channel and there we watched a travel programme on London. I have been there before, but my partner hasn't. And the lady was walking there at Paddington station and the sites and things they showed made my partner go - "I want to go to there!" They also showed Oxford and Richmond and that was also a big sell, hehe. Anyhoo, just funny always how it works that you hear from a place and then immediately here from it again almost straight after. Have you found that? Sorry for being totally off topic! I also believe in the power of positive thinking. And I am back on the positive train. I think emotionally I am doing better today, perhaps my body is getting used to my crazy pills' smaller dosage. And the excitement is starting to build! Oh dear goodness, I am just so afraid that I wake up only to find they cancelled my op as my liver didn't shrink enough or something like that!
  2. Give it time, you had surgery. It took me like 16 days or so to feel normal again. Fast forward nearly a year and 50lbs less, I'm awesome!!!
  3. I'll take taller lol... got to when you are only 5'4" thanks everyone for your wonderful comments.. they help alot especially this week when i'm in my stall.. but at least it's an expected stall.. Can't wait to push my way through this...started toning my arms last night.. bought a cool tension cord workout that hooks to your door.. it worked awesome... Nice to hear newfoundlove... Does it really feel like 4 weeks has gone by? It seems to go so fast.. especially when it felt like forever until surgery day!! I can't wait to see the next few months go by.. i even organized my closet of jeans.. i coulnd't beleive how many size 20 to 16's i had.. no wonder i felt like i never had any clothes.. i had two pairs of 24's that i had told myself i was not about to go up another size they were really tight.. and now they are so baggy on me.. i have one pair of 22's i've already slipped into.. so nice to actually go down and get to wear your clothes again.. :-)

    Surgery Date July 16Th!!!

From my initial consult to actually being banded took me four and a half weeks. Everything was in the fast track.
  5. Hi Stacy Welcome to this very friendly informative forum. you may be a slow loser but you are 33 lbs lighter than you would have bee nwithout your band. Posting and reading here will help you stay focussed and there are always people who are going through or have gotten over what you are. Why not post on one of the more specific threads about anything you are struggling with and someone will be along to help. We all struggle with the band at times. My particular problem is eating too fast, I know I need to work harder at going slower. I was banded in November and am just going to arrange my second fill. I have lost 50 lbs including my pre op diet and am happy with that as I know that I am in it for the long haul and I was warned that weight loss is slow and steady with a band compared to the bypass where people lose lots really quickly. I am sure you have reduced clothing size so although you may not see a huge difference when you look in the mirror yourself, 33lbs must be very noticeable to others and I am sure that it has had a positive effect on your health. Best of luck to you, take care. Sue

    One Month

One month today. Down 21 lbs. Hard to believe. Even w/ the lap band I didn't get this close to goal. One month thoughts: It was rough the first two days post-op I am glad I chose to stay in the Hospital vice go to a recovery house. I get too sick after anesthesia. Glad to have the 24/7 care. Money well spent. Clear liquids got old fast, Jello made w/Isopure 40mg bottles saved me w/my protein intake. Full liquids sugar-free pudding made w/injury protein got me thru the full. I found out I didn't like most of the samples I ordered. Ended up ordering a jug-o-Syntha-6 Chocolate peanut butter. (it will be nice when I can blend a banana it.) Injury protien was the only other one I could stand (Even my 30 mg from Costco I don't like so much anymore-been heating them up @ work seems to make them more doable) Bought a "bullet" LOVE IT!!! Taking the blender out each time I make a protein shake is PIA. Blending it in the bullet makes it taste so much better than just shaking it in a bottle. I put the empty cup in the dishwasher. Tried to eat some Egg Foo Young. Was like a rock in my stomach. Felt like it was never going to leave! Didn't feel nauseous just very uncomfortable. (Flashbacks of the lap band nausea then the vomiting so glad I got that thing out of my body!!!!) Now I am scared to move off of soft/mushies. In case you are reading this and wonder is it worth it. He** YES!!!! I would not have been able to do it w/o this board. I know there has been some controversy lately. Don't let that deter you from getting help and encouragement here. Dee

Lapband surgery has opened my eyes!

I really agree with you. just this semester take a Nutrition class has really opened my eyes to so many things. I DO NOT eat fast food.. unless im dying to eat and thats all there is. but I saw that movie, Super Size me and it really changed my mind on fast food. even the salads there have just as many calories as a hamburger. Yeah and they do think sex sells, and really it does...I guess we all have this mental chemical in out brain saying "ohhhh im going to get that so i can look like that" lol well you know.... Im rammbling now... good post!

Lapband surgery has opened my eyes!

Since I have had the surgery I have been doing a lot of reading on nutrition and healthy eating. I have learned so much and everything makes so much sense to me now. It's no wonder why America is an over weight country. In the evening I watch television and its one fast food chain after another. One snack food after another. It's amazing how we as a people are so brain washed by advertisments! For example the stupid White castle commercial about their new burger. It shows a guy sitting at his dinning room table eating this french style burger while he is watching his housekeeper clean. All of a sudden she is this hot little maid in a french maids uniform making eyes at him! What is this supposed to tell us? That if we eat this burger it will make our dull, boring lives better???? Don't even get me started on the Paris Hilton commercial! I understand that sex sells and all that garbage but hey...if you eat this stuff on a regular basis your health declines, you get fat and well....how much sex will you get??? I don't know maybe it's just me but I think its horrible how everyone complains that Americans are fat and lazy and then they put out commercials like this. Thanks for letting me vent and most of all thanks for listening!

    I am new

I am pre op but yeah walking hurts my back hips and ankles. And calves. My friend forced/encouraged me to walk with her last fall for one mile. Took me about a month to recocrrw because the pace was too fast and I pulled something in my foot. Felt like such a failure. Cant wait to be lighter and healthy.
  11. I too am confused. I get food stuck, I am always hungery. I have had 4 fills. Do I need another fill or two to not be hungry? I am assuming food is gettng stuck because I am eating too fast and not chewing good enough..is that the case?

    Pre Preop Diet!?

Might be time to sit down and have a heart to heart chat. "Honey, I love you and all the great things you do for me very much, but I am about to embark on a life altering journey and I am going to need your help. Part of the reason I am at this point in my life is the poor food choices I have made and the presents you bring do not help. The sleeve is going to help me, but it only a tool. I still have to make these choices and it would help me sooo much if theses gifts weren't even an option." This is a tough conversation for us to have as it draws a line in the sand saying you are making a change in your habits. But, it is a change you are going to have to do if you want to be successful with your sleeve. There are healthy options out there in the fast food world, as you pointed out. I ate salads from McD's 3 times on a recent trip. They were tasty and healthy. There are options out there, but you also need to find the time to prepare options. I am a big proponent of Soups frozen in pint jars. Grab one on my way out the door about everyday. I make a large batch on Sunday evenings. As I have posted in other threads ... things only change when things change.

    July Goals

Alright, I made my June goal by the excess skin of my teeth so I will go with this one too. My goal is to be below 260 at the end of the month which will put me at 100lbs lost, and if I get to 258 I will officially be obese:confused:, down from a BMI of 49 which is almost Super Obese:embarassed:. DW & I are going to Vegas in August because we both need new wardrobes so I am going to try & drop as much weight as I can so I dont shrink out of those clothes so fast. Andrew

    What do you eat?

I am throwing this out here for whomever to post. I have been reading everyones post. I have noticed that everyones weight loss is different. Some people lose slow and some fast. Mattie's info on her last post was wonderful. "Mattie thanks for posting the rules and the things that you eat." That has given me some ideas that I know will help me on the long run and will surely use. I am sure there are some newbies and slow losers that would like to ask this question. So I will do it for everyone. We all need some ideas and help on this journey. To all the great losers: The magic ??? is...What are you eating and/or doing that is helping you lose the weight? What has helped you be so successful in your journey? Jackie 4/22/04 331.5/312.5/175 "To Blessed To Be Big"

    2 Weeks Till Surgery

I'm 28 weeks post-op today and have lost 103.5 lbs. And let me second what others have said - WALK. I started pre-op on my treadmill and changed to walking in a park near my home after my surgery. I started with about 15-20 minutes and worked my way up from there. I bought a pedometer and have been walking 3+ miles a day (about 45 - 55 minutes) for several months now. Absolutely no question in my mind that it has increased my total weight loss and shortened the time it would have taken to lose the same weight if I had not been walking. I walk a minimum of four days a week, more if "life" allows. My record so far is sixteen days straight. It is perhaps important to note that I walk "quickly". I don't saunter. The information they gave me pre-op said if you're not working up a sweat you're not getting the benefit you could. I do not jog or run but I do walk at a fast pace. It's a great way to help you with your Water intake (you're thirsty after your walk) and exercise of any kind is a great appetite suppresant. Could not recommend it more highly!!
  16. So I called Cigna today. They received my clinical' and all my paperwork last Thursday. I hope I get an approval by end of this week. Anyone get theirs fast? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Losing Before Surgery

Chimera gave great advice so I'll just share what I've done over the last 4 months as I too am in my preop phase. I've totally cut out bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes, coffee, sweets (candy/pastries) and all fast/fried food. Essentially I've gone high Protein, low carb and low calorie. I haven't done one second of exercise and to date I've lost 44 pounds. Good luck.

    Fluoroscopy fills.

The doctor can see the level of restriction, but that does not necessarily translate into a lasting level of restriction that you'll perceive as your sweet spot. Some people really do feel quite a bit from their first fill. A few find that it does the trick. But most seem to feel very little difference from the first fill. There is a difference--but our pouches still empty too fast for us to really notice a difference in our hunger levels. This usually tapers down over a few fills. Fluoro or not. My doctor does use fluoro for all fills. I had my third about 10 days ago--and do feel restriction now. It's starting to dissipate a bit, though, so I suspect Fill #4 will be necessary. It's worth the wait  Hang in there!

    Hair loss

About a year and a half ago, in a week's time, I went from having shoulder length hair to none at all, including my eyelashes and eyebrows. It was TERRIFYING. I had hair loss before (diagnosed alopecia) but never that much, that fast. Needless to say, I am freaking out at the idea of losing hair with this surgery. I don't ever want to have to regrow my hair through the mullet phase again, because that was rough. What helped me a lot (I refused shots from the derm, hair isn't worth 100 needles to the head) was Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and scalp treatment, I believe I use #4. I also took a prenatal Vitamin because of the hair, skin, and nails benefits. A volumizing shampoo and/or hairspray might also help, so that your hair appears fuller, even if it isn't. Try not putting your hair up or pulling on it too harshly, because that might loosen the already-offended hormone and then your hair might jump shift faster. Everyone is different. Trial and error might be your best bet, but a lot of people I've talked to said that their hair loss is minor (compared to what it could be) and only noticed by the person losing the hair. Good luck! If I've learned anything this year though, it's that hair almost always grows back!

    Venting - So Mad!

It took 2 weeks to get auth through my insurance and that was considered FAST. On another note, you still have a little time. I am only taking 5 days off post op since my position is mostly sedentary

    Concentric dialation (sp?)

I too have not been on here that much. I did have a pouch diditation and all of my saline was removed. For 7 wks I could eat everything I wanted to and I gained 7 pounds back. I then got a fill on the 14th of Sept. and I was doing fine until this weekend when I got super tight and the choking at night etc.. I have placed my self on liquids and I feel much better today. I think I just had been eating too fast due to fact that I have to retrain myself to eat right again. If I can't get back to solids by the end of the week, I will go see my Dr. So lesson learned by me!
  22. That's coming up really fast! Good luck, be sure to let us know how it goes!

    Frustrated And Impatient Preop

This exact scenario happened to me as well...I kinda stressed to the surgical side of the situation and told them I felt my job was looking at cutbacks and if I lose my insurance I'll be out of luck! They actually pushed hard for me to get all the lab work and such as fast as possible...although this is life changing surgery for us, it's a pay day for the medical side, so when all is said and done, they don't want to lose a "customer"...I'm 4 days post op now
  24. Try a pregnancy test. Get some vitamins in you--even flintstones chewable easy to get, easy to get down. Watch the coffee--it does a few things to you. Sure you get that huge jolt of energy, but it speeds up digestion making your food give you less energy, and it has diuretic properties so you will pee out your nutrients too fast and lose hydration. I will say when I was preggo I had absolutely no energy, needed a nap and still fell straight to sleep by 8 pm.
  25. Only gatorade? Yikes! I had slim fast and about 2 oz yogurt yesterday, today I had more yogurt (2 oz), 10 oz of milk, and am having tomato Soup now.. have had mabye 1/2 cup over almost an hour... my problem is I can't seem to tell if I'm full yet, but I don't feel hungry at all... even before eating. I think the pain is masking those "sensors"... anyone else experience that?
