progression of foods
Amanda131 replied to rylie19805's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Serna- I spent two weeks on full liquids, then one week on soft proteins(eggs, hamburger, fish, greek yogurt, etc.) and now I can have soft foods (no bread, Pasta, rice, under cooked veggies, etc.) until the 3 month point. I can then start slowly adding foods back in as tolerated. I have had no food issues on this plan thus far. My NUT is ridiculously nice and even gave her email in case I had questions, I'm so sorry you got a she-devil! I am looking for a good brand of Protein powder as well, I haven't found anything I love yet. Good Luck! Amanda -
Chances are at this stage your solid foods will be mushy - apple sauce, mashed potatoes, anything blended (my dietician said one person put a bacon cheeseburger into a blender), things that can be mashed with a fork like peas, yogurt, cottage cheese. Be careful transitioning - you really should avoid fried/battered food like LJS - the battering is just hollow calories and you get less Protein when you eat stuff like that because it fills your limited stomach space.

Newbie With Question About Post-Op Diet
Mck xx replied to Toddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh heck no! If I could do 7 weeks of clear liquids, I wouldnt need the surgery anymore! I had 5 days of pre op clear but post op im on full liquids and yogurt. 6 weeks is an awful long time, especially compared to Toddys 2 days, but full liquids are amazing after starving on clear! Im having no hunger problems whatsoever and wouldnt start mushies or solids any time soon if given the option, to be honest. Im only 4 days post op though so I guess we'll see how fond of liquids I am a few weeks out.. -
After 3 days I was allowed to move from clear liquids to heavier liquids. Yes, I relied on shakes from time to time, yogurt, cream soups, etc. This was for 4 days, completing 1 full week. Then for week 2 I was allowed to move on to mushies. As far as "gas pains", there appears to be some confusion, or mix-ups. There are 2 different "gas pains", one of which is from the surgical procedure, the other indigestion. Gas-X will not help the surgical procedure type of trapped gas at all.

I mix with my plain Fage 0% Greek Yogurt to change the flavor to suit my mood/tastes. SF Black Cherry was delicious. Loved the SF Amaretto!!!! SF French Vanilla, SF Raspberry......

I have always understood sliders to be food that tends to slip through easier... and it seems that everyone has different sliders. Crackers, chips, even Nachos and most Pasta seem to pass through quickly for me. But I had some yogurt yesterday and couldn't have more that 1/4 of a cup.

Your appetite is less post op so it's not that bad. I had to do 2 wks full liquids. (still doing them), i puree chunky soups, eat low fat yogurt, jello, protein shakes....
-
At 3 months out I can eat a 4oz yogurt with no pain or problems but a 1.5 to 2oz meat of any kind is all I can eat. Is anyone else able to eat a larger portion of something soft than with siemobe solid?

Is 7 cc enough for a 10cc limit band, and what you have? Much love :)
illuminationlady replied to Rose7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm proof that it's different for everyone. I have 5.9 in a 10 band and I have great restriction. I eat eggbeaters with cheese for breakfast, a salad with chicken breast for lunch and 1/2 chicken breast or fish with 1.2 yam and veggies for dinner. I usually have one snack of Greek yogurt with honey dribbled on top. No more than a cup of food at a time and 64+oz. of water a day. Hope this helps...Best wishes!!! -
There are some great threads on here about what to eat.. I think one of them is titled 'what did you eat today?'. I'm a moderate pace loser: I had my surgery 7 weeks ago and have lost 21 lbs since then. I calculated by daily calorie burn based upon my weight and moderate activity level as 2400 calories per day, so my goal is to be negative by 1000 calories per day (intake thus 1400 cals). This should equate to a loss of 2 lbs per week and I'm just about on target (weight loss was greater in the very beginning when on liquids). Typical day: Breakfast is yogurt or oatmeal and a soy latte lunch is a Lean Cuisine Snack is either an Odwalla Protein drink, another yogurt, or a little Dole fruit cup dinner is meat and a vegetable Evening snack is a handful of nuts I've gotten some great ideas for meals on this site. One of my favorites was 'crustless pizza': I would take italian sausage and pepperoni and put it in a container with sauce and LF mozzarella cheese and heat. Delicious! Also do burritos without the tortilla by mixing Beans, some meat, salsa, a little cheese, and guacamole. Very satisfying. In this stage, before you have restriction, it's sort of like being on a diet in that you will be hungry and it does require will power. The good news is you can look forward to your first fill taking over some of the work. Best wishes and congrats on the 15lbs!

I too hate that yogurt taste - but I LOVE Yoplait Thick & Creamy (used to be called Custard Style). I get the raspberry or strawberry. It's thick like custard - and no whangy taste.

Whats happening ?
Humming Bird replied to mizofatso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Potato chips and corn chips are no longer a slider for me. I'm too tight for them to be a slider. No matter how much I chew them up they cause pain. I think sometimes it is a texture thing too. Anything that will melt like icecream or chocolate is for sure a slider. I do not avoid all sliders or I would suffer from malnutrition or starvation. My band is pretty tight and even tighter in the mornings. Some foods that may be considered sliders are on my regular menu......yogurt, cream of wheat, soup ...... I just try to stay away from the high cal. ones like icecream. -
Throwing up..help?
Oregondaisy replied to papi chulo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does get better! You just have to try to sip on Protein shakes or bites of Greek Yogurt, or a spoonful of egg salad, etc. If all you can eat is 2 bites every 2 hours, just know that soon you'll be eating more. -
I like the Yoplait light flavors...my favorites are lemon, apple turnover, & strawberry white chocolate. They don't taste like yogurt and the texture isn't like typical yogurt.

Help I need ideas PLEASE!
GwSoccermom replied to GwSoccermom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your replies. I am eating the right size portions, but also hungry between meals. And I do not have any ideas for weekly menu/meal planning. I can never figure out how to plan and we only shop once per week. I need some ideas for all meals during the week. I also snack once in the afternoon (fruit or yogurt) and I cant lose my after dinner sweet tooth and always want something for an evening desert. -
Clumping....omg it hurts
HeatherO replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never heard clumping used either but I have heard of stuck, sliming, pb, etc. I guess you learn something new every day :0). I have been through that as well. Unfortunately, you just have to ride it out but it is utter misery when it is going on. I found that chicken and salmon have the ability to make that happen. I have to be very careful with those, but everything else works fine. I sometimes eat meat with a little low fat yogurt and it helps to avoid that. I also alternate bites of meat with veggies or whatever else I am having for dinner so that it doesn't stick together so bad. -
Two Weeks Out And Feeling Really Full
AllForMy4 replied to Dania621's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I will be 2 weeks out on Wednesday and I can barely take a couple very small bites of Greek yogurt without feeling SOO VERY FULL! I measured out an ounce and I could only eat half. :/ I can't even get my required liquids and protein in. I am getting in almost 30 ounces of liquids and 1 protein shake. The upside is I have lost 13 lbs in 11 days. =) -
Two Weeks Out And Feeling Really Full
Dania621 replied to Dania621's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have Muscle Milk Light in the morning...it takes me about two hours to finish it. I make it with 16 oz of Water because I do NOT like anything thick or shake like. Now, it's 1:46pm and I'm having some Oikos Greek Yogurt (0 fat)...it's really sweet and I don't really like it. I can't measure at work because I don't have a scale here. But I figure I'll have three ounces. Then I drink my Isopure Zero for the rest of the day at work. When I get home, I usually have two spoonfuls of mashed potatoes with roasted garlic and chicken broth to make it soup-like. And that's my whole day. Today, I think I'm going to try some tuna fish pureed with a tsp of mayo. We'll see how that goes. I will not get on the scale til next week. I'm going to keep walking every day for 30 minutes (I'm going to up it to 40-50 a day) until I can go swimming and such. I hope that by next week, the scale will move favorably!! -
Before I was banded on the 13th, I was drinking the Protein shakes, eating yogurt, etc. I had no issues with "sweet" tasting stuff, but was not a big sweet eater. Since the band, I cannot stomach anything sweet and the majority of the stuff on the liquid phase is sweet. Ever since the banding the Protein Shakes cause me major pain. After my morning shake yesterday I stayed away from the protein shakes and/or protein waters. Today I tried a protein Water and again major pain. I think it possibly has something to do with artificial sweetners. Right now I can't even stand the smell of anything sweet  Has anyone else had this problem? I go to the doctor on Wednesday and I'm hoping he will say I can start mushies cuz I am not finding anything to agree with me on liquids (except egg drop soup).

10/14/09 - Teenagers, can we shoot them?
tonya66 commented on tonya66's blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
Drama, drama, drama......story of my life these days with two teenagers in the house. My 16 year old got grounded, so I took her phone away from her, well, she thinks she is smarter than me so she sneaks around and buys herself a "trackphone" or "pay as you go phone" so I wouldn't know about it. I'm not stupid, everytime in the past I have taken her phone, she beggs me for it back, does extra chores etc. This time, she didn't say a word, I could tell it didn't even bother her so I figured she snuck around and got her a phone. Last night I found it hidden under her pillow. SCORE 1 for me! Well, being the concerned mother, I find a lot of text to this one boy that we have forbid her to see, and let me tell you, IT WAS NOT PRETTY AT OUR HOUSE LAST NIGHT! I don't think my daughter will be leaving the house until she is about 20 years old now. I've pretty much grounded her for the rest of her teenage years. Needless to say, with all this drama, I didn't make it to the gym tonight which even made me more mad! Tonight we are having a meeting with our daughter and our Elders from church to finish up our little discussion, so I doubt I will make it tonight, but I might.....depends on how long it last and how emotionally drained I am afterwards. Kids are wonderful, but teenagers........can we shoot them? lol. Wt - 164.8 Menu: Bfast Weight Watchers Mexican Meatloaf - (I know, but I was hungry and this sounded good) Lunch Weight Watchers Mexican Meatloaf - (I can't help it, I love it....and I made it last night so I have leftovers......yum yum) Snack yogurt granola Dinner Weight Watchers Mexican Meatloaf green beans Below is the recipe for my Weight Watchers Mexican Meatloaf: Weight Watchers Mexican Meatloaf – 4 pts per serving 1/2 lb raw extra lean ground beef 1/2 lb raw lean ground turkey breast 2 large egg whites 2 ounces cornbread stuffing mix (about 1 cup) You could also substitute with oatmeal too – I usually do half stuffing and half oatmeal 1 medium onion ½ diced bell pepper 1/2 teaspoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin 4 ounces canned green chili peppers, diced 8 ounces red enchilada sauce Directions Preheat oven to 375 Spray broiler pan with fat free cooking spray. Make sure you eat breakfast in the morning which includes some sort of protein -- Greek yogurt, weight smart oatmeal, scrambled eggs... If you have a smart phone try using My Fittness Pal to track your progress. and keep you honest. Cut out all soda and alcohol ... its evil!

Just one of those days. Had yogurt with fruit for breakfast then our lunch after church took forever to cook so it turned into dinner. Normally I'm averaging around 700 calories a day

One Week Post-Op What Are You Eating???
honk replied to kr8160311's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I liked Pacific Brand sweet red pepper/tomato soup to which I would add Mrs Dash non salt chicken flavoring (before heating so the herb bits would reconsitute). I would use a stick blender to mix up fruited Greek yogurt (I added splendra because Greek yogurt is sour); add fat free milk if it is too thick. If you are going to eat ready made suger free pudding cups but name brand versions they are so much better. -
Road Trip At 7 Weeks
maggie4778 replied to mrsnate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just came from a trip to Catalina island, I was sleeved April 17 and I made sure I had my Greek yogurt and cheese sticks since there was a mini fridge in the hotel. I also took isopure and when we ate at a restaurant I would just order soup!! It worked out great for me, good luck!!
