May Surgeries - check in!
Losing in in 2021 replied to ChunkyCali's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started puréed food yesterday but was afraid to eat so I had a few tablespoons of Oikos Triple 0 Greek yogurt. It tasted like Heaven! Today for lunch I had a few tablespoons of Starkist chicken creations. I had the lemon pepper which was very good, though I though the lemon was a bit overpowering. Maybe it’s my tastebuds since that’s the first real piece of food I’ve had in over 3 weeks. Keep drinking your protein. I’m down 13 pounds since surgery, 18 since I started my liquid pre-op -
Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
UPDATE: On nothing really in particular but for the fact that I am sooooooooooooooo over this liquid diet. On my final week of liquids right now. When all is said and done, at the end of next week, it will be 4 weeks total. I just want to eat some MEAT!! SOMETHING! Getting tired of just water, protein drinks, broths/cream soups, popsicles, sugar free pudding and jello and yogurt. Uggghhhhh Today I did sneak and took a small bite of a banana and chewed it like 50 times before swallowing. LOL -

My sleeve was done on 5/20/21 so Im a week in and doing good with full liquids and protein drinks. The bariatric protein chicken broth is about the best tasting thing I have. I have had greek yogurt (light and fit) and Im allowed sugar free pudding and jello. The doctor said I was doing so well I can add some mushy food this weekend like the ricotta bake or some tuna fish. I cant wait! 😂 -
I'm still on full liquids so currently my day is usually as follows: half a protein shake first thing, fluids, half a greek yogurt, fluids, other half of protein shake, 4oz strained soup, fluids, half a greek yogurt, fluids, more soup or sugar free pudding, protein shake or water, sometimes broth some times a sugar free popsicle. I try to hit over 40oz on regular fluids and then protein shakes or water get me to 64oz for the day. And I'm averaging 60-70g protein. Currently around 400 calories in a day. I'm dying to move on to purees, I would love a scrambled egg or egg salad. I like to torture myself at night watching tiktoks of other people eating delicious food 🤣

I eat strawberries and blackberries, can't do yogurt or dairy too much. I try to eat something that has protein and is healthy.

What about string cheese or other cheeses? Fruit (frozen berries are great year round) and Greek Yogurt? Other veggies like red/orange/yellow bell peppers cut in slices with tzatziki or just plain? Roasted veggies? There's a crunchy snack called "bada bean" something or other which is flavored roasted broad beans I've just discovered that I'm really into; they're high in protein and fiber. Roasted chickpeas (although if hummus doesn't work, those might not either)? Pork rinds? Protein chips? Cherry tomatoes?

I eat much of the same thing most days of the week. Morning snack is a serving of roasted pumpkin seeds, afternoon is Dannon Light-n-Fit yogurt.

I never eat sugar or cereal but I dump daily on regular food. Doesn’t matter what it is...I still dump. My dumping consists of being nauseous, and sleepy. It usually lasts for half hour to 45 min and then I’m new again. I tried keto frozen yogurt (only had 1/4 cup) and dumped big time that lasted hour plus. I guess this dumping keeps me in check...I don’t know. -

So did I! Had my first post-op nurse visit today. Down almost 10 pounds. Was told I can start puréed food Saturday. Start with yogurt and work my way up to chicken. At least it’s a start. How are you feeling? -

Yes. I had esophagitis D.. I have bad episodes with dumping so I do have to be careful. My dumping is intense cramping in the abdomen and I cant vomit, so I usually lay down and cry for a couple of hours. It has gotten better though the episodes are not lasting as long. Very helpful deterrent for sure. I dump on sugary carbs, cereal of any kind, ice cream, or if I overeat. On occasion I will have a frozen yogurt and seem to do okay with that. I had an obsession with cupcakes and after a meal I can have a few bites. I dont do cupcakes anymore its too much of a waste. I am still on the same PPI but it works much better now and my esophagitis is an A now, so that is good. Good luck with your revision. Love to hear what ya think. -
4 weeks and feeling hungry a lot
Incredibleshrinkiningkiley replied to Incredibleshrinkiningkiley's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No thigh pain other than when I was doing a lot of sitting the first few weeks. I would call your dr that could be electrolytes or something worse. As for purées I did a lot of egg salad and tuna. Now I’m on purée/soft foods and I’m trying to add more variety. Every program varies so much though on when you can have what foods. Here’s what a day of mine looks like. breakfast: protein shake lunch: 2-3 cups tuna poke snack light string cheese dinner Greek yogurt snack 1 cup ham cut up my daily calorie intake is anywhere from 5-700 calories I try to walk everyday the only pain I have is by my rib cage in my left side and that comes and goes. I’ve lost 20 lbs since surgery and 34 since preop diet. -
Eating on a Cross-Country Road Trip
NovaLuna replied to Liz B.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went on a two day road trip with my sister this last weekend. I brought protein shakes, yogurt, graham crackers, protein bars, nuts, banana's, and applesauce for snacks. We ate out twice and the first time I got a salad that lasted me for both lunch and dinner and the second time (on the way home) we stopped at Red Robin's and I got a chicken sandwich and fries that lasted me for three meals lol (I'm not used to eating bread because of my wheat allergy, but Red Robin's has an allergy friendly menu if you tell them you have an allergy so they can take measure so that you don't get cross contamination on your food and they have gluten free buns and fries if you ask and I got full after eating only a third of the sandwich and four fries). Admittedly, road trips aren't easy with diet restrictions, but it IS possible to work around them and find things that you can eat. -
I'm so sorry your frustrated. You are only a week out from major surgery, Our bodies don't react predictably from that a lot of the time. Just be patient and follow your plan and the weight will come off. In terms of your diet, of course listen to your team. I can tell you that early out I was "eating" only 1-2 oz very soft foods (like greek yogurt) and stuffed from that very small amount and waited 30-60 minutes after to drink fluids. Outside of those windows, I really, really focused on fluids. Small sips every couple of minutes as it was the only way to drink enough. It took a lot of effort to get them in until I could slowly drink more at one time.

Tomorrow is my official week since having gastric bypass and I’m struggling. I’m only down to my ore surgery weight and I don’t understand why. I also have right side pain that makes it hard to do things. I was doing great on just liquids and getting about 40-50 ounces a day and my surgical nurse called and was not happy I was getting that much and told me I might stretch my pouch out. She also told me I needed to add in the yogurts and creamed soups so I get 24-30 ounces of full and then 24-30 ounces of clear. I started adding in more full items and I can barely get any ounces of either now because I feel so full/sick. Is this common? Am I doing something wrong?

Eating on a Cross-Country Road Trip

Two Good Greek yogurt [12 g protein/3 g carbs], Whisps cheese chrisps [12 g protein/1 g carbs are my go to snacks right now. They are filling and satisfying! -
if you're still seeing your bariatric team, I'd start there. Or if not, is it possible to see them again? Otherwise, if you're not still tracking your food intake, start there. Track for a couple of weeks to figure out what your average calorie intake is now. Then try cutting back by 100 calories or so for another couple of weeks. If that doesn't do the trick, cut back by another 100 calories. Rinse and repeat. Eventually you'll find the level where you'll start losing weight. also, start doing some of things we did that first year after surgery (NOT all the way back to shakes and purees - I mean how we ate after the first couple of months - focusing mostly on protein and non-starchy vegetables. Then if you have room, maybe a small serving of fruit or whole-grain carb). if you're having trouble with hunger while cutting back, add in more vegetables - I try to eat vegetables with every meal when I'm trying to lose (I don't always with breakfast, but I DO blend a cup of fresh spinach or kale in with my morning protein shake to make up for it). I also always keep raw veggies (with a dip made from plain Greek yogurt and ranch dressing mix), sugar free popsicles, and sugar free Jello around, too. Healthy fats like avocado and peanut butter or a handful of nuts can also help with the hunger - but just have a small portion of those since they're pretty high in calories. good luck with this. I know it's tough - I'm battling a 10-lb COVID gain right now and I know it isn't easy, but people do it... At least you're catching it at 40 lbs while it's still do-able oh btw - I know a lot of people who've regained who've had success with Weight Watchers, Keto, and/or intermittent fasting - so those might be options for you, too...

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Small update. FOOD: So last night I has some sugar free pudding, since that's on my list, and did fine with it. Today I had some Light Greek, Nonfat Vanilla Yogurt. Had about 4 ounces in about 3 minutes and felt fine. Again I worry about this because yeah, I understand not having restriction with liquids but this? I'd think since there was/is more substance to it it would be different. Hope I'm wrong. CRAVINGS: Strange enough, can't say that I've been too hungry or starving or anything, considering I've only had liquids for like 3 weeks straight now....lol, but at times I do feel hungry. And during those times I find myself craving lots of strange things. Some of it is stuff I don't even eat like steak and liverwurst. Most of my cravings have been about meats and salads. Can't wait to have both!!! SLEEPING: A lil progress. I was able to lay flat and sleep in bed without too much pain and today I woke up feeling even better. I have been icing my stomach regularly for the last two days. Wondering if that's been helping? -
Definitely consider seeing a therapist to figure out why you are snacking. on protein bars and granola. These sugary things really don't have a place in the post-op diet so soon after surgery. Go back to the information your surgery center provided you with. What does the diet look like? It should be protein (from lean meats, fish, eggs, tofu, cheese, light greek yogurt, etc - not protein bars which are basically candy) and some vegetables. Definitely not granola! And make sure you're getting all your water in; that can be a distraction when you want to snack.

Travelling from Canada to Mexico during Covid
Charlie2018 replied to Charlie2018's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi sorry for the delay in responding. From my research pre op diets just like post definitely differ from surgeon to surgeon. Mine was a 10 day plan. Basically includes 2 protein shakes, 2 servings of non fat Greek yogurt 1/2 cup), 2 servings of berries that I typically add to my yogurt and 2 servings of cream soup (no chunks) 1 cup each. And 64oz of water. Add in 2 servings of glutamine as well the day before is just clear liquids which is the day I travel there it will take me three flights so will be a long day have you picked a doctor and gotten it scheduled?! -
Glad to hear it. I was pretty worried about you right after your surgery. I'm doing well. I'm just starting to add some pureed foods and trying to find high protein, non-sweet, non-protein shake options. The challenge is real. Ugh, I tried a soft scrambled egg yesterday and felt a restriction within two bites. I get it about the protein shakes. The ONLY flavor I can tolerate is chocolate and it is getting really old. I'm still drinking at least one protein shake day, but I've been making my own too that I like a lot. I had some frozen huckleberries (though I'll try some banana I think later this week) from last summer so I threw 1/4 cup or so of them in the blender with plain greek yogurt, toasted almond milk, a couple drops of liquid stevia, some plain protein powder and some crushed ice. It isn't terribly sweet and much more palatable than the prepackaged ones and 25 grams of protein. Take care and keep in touch.

May Surgeries - check in!

Day 2 home from surgery. Doing well I think. Gas pains/spasms can be painful when they come but for the most part I have minimal pain. Im getting all my fluids and protein in. Took all my pills ok today. Im breaking my allowed food down into 2 ounce cups and eating with a baby spoon to avoid accidently eating too much at once. Im on a full liquid diet, yogurt, ricotta cheese, sf pudding, protein soups (clear), sf ice pops, protein shakes. Compared to my pre op diet this is heaven lol -
Favorite Grocery Products

When I get a chocolate craving, I eat tiny mini dark choc chips from Nuts.com. I only eat a very small amount and it gets rid of the craving. I put them on yogurt, in my cereal, mixed with nuts, etc. I usually eat a tiny bit every day and its perfect. The only almonds & walnuts that I eat are whole, raw from Nuts.com also and there are no better tasting walnuts that I have tried so far. -
I don't know your stats but 800 calories a day doesn't seem too high to me. Unless you're really tiny and inactive, you should be able to lose on that amount. I mostly eat mini-meals throughout the day. I start eating at about 6 AM when I have coffee before work and I eat every 2-3 hours or so until about 6-7 PM (like maybe 6 AM, 8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM and 6-7 PM). I'm naturally more hungry in the daytime and not so much at night, so I don't usually need to eat at night. It looks something like this: 1. 6 AM: Morning latte (made with Kitu Super coffee, 10g or Protein and no sugar) 2. 8 AM: 1 scrambled egg 3. 10 AM: Yogurt 4. 12 PM: 1 chicken thigh 5. 2 PM: sugar-free pudding 6. 4 PM: Lunch meat wrap made with Mission Carb Balance tortilla 8. 6-7 PM (Nighttime snack): cheese stick When I was still losing, I restricted carbs but not calories, so if I had a hungry day I might eat a little more or conversely I might have a low appetite day and eat less. I ate around 800 calories a day from 6 months through about 18 months, so I guess that's why it doesn't seem excessive to me. I did not have weekend treats while I was losing (although I did have special-occasion treats, like Christmas and my birthday). The more often you eat on-plan, the faster your weight loss, but you get to decide the balance between losing weight and enjoying life. Just be alert to how things affect you, so you can adjust if there is a problem.

April surgeries

Indeed it seems easier now that I am eating fish, eggs, and overcooked veggies. Chewing a yogurt was not very natural to me !!!!! Thank you -
Hello Amy, I experienced that same sensation. My bypass was on the 7th of May. The first post-op day was smooth, when they brought me my medicine cups and water and a schedule to record my intake/times, I had no problem getting my fluid in. I kept wondering, shouldn't this be more difficult? After I came home, my head hunger and my ease of swallowing continued. On my 5th-7th post of day, my experienced fullness for the first time. I thought I was going to vomit or die, it was so uncomfortable. Now even sips of water, protein shakes, and bites of yogurt fill me up immediately. I have chalked this up to a couple of things: 1. Anesthesia and the lingering after effects allowed me not to feel the restricted stomach size, and 2. Now that I am off my pain medication and anesthesia including and pain blocking they may have performed during surgery is out of my system. My honeymoon period with my new pouch is over and I treat (her) very kind. I have eliminated anything but my protein shakes (2 oz feels like a Thanksgiving dinner) water, and yogurt. I am learning more about my body tha I ever have. I cannot drink milk or dairy products without much regret. Sugar-free anything is also an absolute no-no for me right now. I move onto pureed food later this week and I can't wait to see what other fun and interesting things my pouch has in store. One trick I have always used in dealing with any unpleasant experience is to maintain a curious mindset. My new digestive 'engine' went from diseil to electric so I am learning an entirely new owner's manual. Lean and clean fuel. Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app
