Experiences with Phentermine?
HealthierME2018 replied to RellaBelle's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
I took phentermine right before I scheduled my surgery (surgery 7/23/18). I took it for 14 weeks and lost 15lbs.my doctor stated the FDA does not recommend more than 12w without a break, so I stopped and immediately gained weight back. It was a great appetite suppressant, only side effect was dry mouth but it wasn’t so bad bc it made me drink more water! -

Frustr8 replied to OhioSparkle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Ohio Sparkle, I am also a Buckeye, live 15 miles from Ohio' s Center which is Centerburg. FYI,My Mama graduated from there in 1935. I meet with my surgeon Dr Needlman next Tuesday 7/17/2018 for my presurgical appointment, I am hoping yet that day I am assigned a surgery date. I will be having a RnY bypass at Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. I stand 5ft8in, weigh 321 down, from a high of 356 last October. I have strawberry blonde (redgold) hair fair skin, walk with a cane because I have 2 replacement, knees, wear glasses mostly because of Old Age, also I have had a cataract removed from my riight eye plus I have been near sighted since childhood. And last but not least i,am 72 years old. Betcha, I. can beat, your obesity story. I was born at he end of the Second World, only child 0f my parents. After every nursing,i was to be fed a 8 oz bottle of Carnation Milk formula. At I year,i was 36 inches, tall and 35 lbs. That is roughly the size the size of 2 1/2 year olds. So I have been big my entire life. -
Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat!
FluffyChix replied to Sleeved36's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I honestly think the thing that tickles and offends me the most about this topic is the title from a medical professional: "Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat..." When I first read this my knee-jerk response to this was, "Well, my honest opinion is that none of us need to be told this--Newsflash! We already have very personal knowledge and awareness of our fatness." Like, what a strange way to broach a subject to a room full of people in various stages of trying to change their personal reality. But @nibble and @Orchids&Dragons I know this avoidance so well. I also ducked my well-woman's exam for years--only going to my GP when I had severe infections. I almost died from BC because of the shame of my own personal knowledge of being fat and my embarrassment to have a gyno exam while super morbidly obese. -
I've been married for almost 20 years, I work at a hospital... nothing offends or shocks me. Seriously, nothing. I'm dealing with some sympathy bloating myself because my wife is cycling... Crazy sympathy bs... Fat Prom???

Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat!
sestewart17 replied to Sleeved36's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Let me just mention: please do not send in another physician to give this talk if you are too busy...she asked first and I said ok so it is partly my fault but I didn’t really know we were going into the weight , this guy came in, got my name wrong, and once I corrected him proceeded to give me the speech on being obese. Then she popped in and they both lectured me with her even telling me I should eat like a rabbit, carrots and veggies... they did not ask what my diet or exercise was and only assumed I came home and ate cakes all day or something. I never went back to them and did not get a new doctor for years. I admit I was sensitive as well but I have a new doctor now and while she doesn’t bs me she isn’t condescending. I have high cholesterol so when she wanted me to get on medication and I wanted to try to lose weight on my own first she encouraged me but also explained the risk And I appreciated that -
Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat!
jess9395 replied to Sleeved36's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Actually yes. Talking to one did for me. I had never really considered bypass though I knew about it from acquaintances. I didn’t know the sleeve existed. A nurse brought it up to me. I am forever in her debt! So as with everything different things work for different people. So I hope people in the medical profession do take the initiative bc you don’t know who it will work for. Honestly I would happily piss off a dozen people to help one. But that’s me. -
BC/BS of Mass Gastric Bypass Approvals / Denials
SimoneMonet posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi All: I was wondering regarding BC/BS of Mass gastric bypass approvals. I received the pre-auth form. I have a BMI of greater than 50 with 2 co-mobidities sleep apnea and diabetes. I've met all of the other testing and nutrition criteria except for the psychologist visit. Is 6 mos pre-dieting is required for approval? Is pre-surgery weight loss required for approval? I was wondering if anyone was denied for gaining weight prior to the surgery. -
What's are your struggles, fears, and hopes?
kjuno replied to much2gain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve been a single mom ( sole custody no other parent) since I was 4 months pregnant. My son now 19 months has an auto-immune illness. I work 10 hour days and am in my Masters program. So finding time to workout eat right and all of my doctors appointments on top of my sons weekly ones has been challenging to say the very least but hopefully worth it. I don’t have my exact surgery date yet but December is the target. I want to go to cedar point again, buy a bathing suit (which I haven’t done in almost a decade). Wear shorts instead of pants when it’s 100 degrees out bc I don’t like the way I look. Sit comfortably on a plane. But most important of all be around to watch my son grow up. -

Loose jiggly skin -- what do I have to look "forward" to?
Matt Z replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Started noticing some loosening around the 1 month mark. 2 months it was quite noticeable. Now at 3 moving towards 4, I'm seeing more and more. Like recently my ass has started to sag, like a lot! My arms and legs got thin right away, I've got some "Bingo wings" going on, but I'm working on my Biceps and Triceps to fill that area in, working well. My stomach is a flap of wrinkly bs, but it's cool, I don't care at all, I mean, I'm down 123 lbs total at this point... there's going to be saggy wrinkly skin all over. I'm kinda proud of it. To a point. -
Has anyone used the vitamin patches???
KatFight replied to Dfox1984's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi. I’ve used the patches. I haven’t been doing a great job of making sure I’m putting them on. They are super convenient and, yes, there was one additional item I needed - I believe it was iron. Do you have a listing of which vitamins we need and how many milligrams? I have mine and can get it if you’d like me to. I get the gastric sleeve plus bc it includes calcium. There is some debate about whether or not vitamins can be absorbed through the skin on a patch. My vitamin levels have been good except my Vit D (again, missed using my patches for awhile). I cook with cast iron so I haven’t needed the iron supplement bc my iron levels are good. Cast iron cooking can boost iron level in the body according to what I’ve read. About cost - I’m not really sure which is more economical. When I first compared in November 2017, I thought it was comparable to getting a bottle of this and a bottle of that...I like getting a break from taking so many pills bc I take several prescriptions. About the calcium, D3 is necessary. If it’s found you don’t have enough, you may need to supplement to get enough if the patch doesn’t include enough D3. I love BariatricPal, at the same time, I want to let you know that MDPATCH sells them directly from their store. They offer a percentage back if you click on their store from eBates (do you know what that is) and they often have sales, sometimes up to 25% off. I hope this helps.🌻🐈😀 -
Fed up with diarrhea (11 days post op)
EsoKev posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleaved 11 days ago, and I've been having diarrhea (about 4 wattery BMs a day). My surigical team keeps everyone on clear liquids for two weeks after surgery. I called them over this weekend because I was so frustrated, and I was told to take a little benefiber with my liquids. That's doing nothing. Anyone else experience this after surgery? Sorry about the rant, but I'm just tired, annoyed, and feeling lots of other emotions. -
Why is alcohol that bad for you after surgery?
Dfox1984 replied to t1018ross's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor said no alcohol for 18 MONTHS! I never planned on following this bc I’ve researched and he’s the only one who has that long of a wait time. I do plan on waiting a few months tho. Since the sugar is part of the problem, I plan on drinking vodka and water and bring a sugar-free koolaid squeeze thing with me. It’s the lowest sugar drink you could have. Someone said vodka and soda but I thought carbonation was super bad for us...isn’t it? -
GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +
TX4everLinds replied to Frustr8's topic in The Gals' Room
Sabrena I have been eating low carb. I’ve basically been doing a ketogenic diet. Low carb moderate protein high fat. I’ve averaged about 11.5 lbs per month and have slowed down recently bc I’ve been having too many carbs. I want to get back into ketosis before surgery so that I’m burning fat during my liquids and post op weeks even when I’m not eating much. I’m hoping it will help me have more energy and lose faster also. Ketosis is basically when your body is starved of carbs so it switches to use fat for fuel instead. -
Help!!! Need advice on telling people they are fat!
Sleeved36 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know this is a loaded subject, but here goes: I am a nurse and the physicians I work with often recommend weight loss to thier patients. Some approach this conversation better than others. As a nurse I understand that losing weight makes patients healthier and the obesity epidemic can not be ignored . . . . BUT as a patient I hated being told to lose weight, in fact I kinda wanted to lash out at the skinny wench. Duh, if it was so easy I wouldn't be fat bc it is SUPER fun not being able to: find clothes that fit, reach my toes, breath while I put on shoes, or fit in a small chair. So here are my questions for you all: How should a doctor tell you to lose weight? Or should they just not say anything? Who can you help by ignoring it? Would it be better if nutrition classes or a healthy lifestyle program was offered at the same time? Should the conversation only happen with another big person? Would you feel less judged that way? Or does it seem silly for a fat person to tell another fat person to lose weight? Empathy or irony? Would it be better or worse if bariatric surgery was mentioned? Would it help if I flashed my scars? Tell me about times when a medical professional told you to lose weight. How did it feel? What would have made it better? I can change how this is done where I work, but need input. You can PM me if you want, too. Second guessing this post, might belong in the rant and rave section. -
BMI just over 30 and esg
soph504 replied to LynnV1964's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I also have BMI of 30 and decided to get the sleeve. Surgery is scheduled for 7/11. I’m 36 and my BP (problem since I was 19 and weighed 155) has gotten so high I’m now taking two medications to treat it. I don’t like the idea of the balloon or band bc they have to be removed/refilled and my health insurance wouldn’t cover any WLS, so I have to self pay. -
Im on liquids (phase 2) for two weeks then I move straight to soft foods. No purée phase. I start soft foods Tuesday but today I wanted to see if I could stomach some soft foods bc it was my kids’ bday party and I had Mexican catered and also bc I didn’t want ppl asking why I wasn’t pigging out like usual. I ate about 6-8 bites of refried beans, ground beef, salsa, and cheese. I felt GREAT! Not a single problem. Man did it feel good to eat normal food (well normal enough for now). I think introducing a bite here and there won’t hurt. I do think eating hard stuff and too much of it might hurt! Hope this helps!

Hello Everyone! I was blessed to get the sleeve after multiple attempts to lose weight naturally. I’m currently 10 Days post opp and able to handle more fluids than originally stated. I can drink 6-8 ounces in 20 minutes time by sipping and not feel sick. I’m not hitting protein goals bc I’m not hungry and that is hard to sip. Is this normal ? I’ve talked to my dr and he’s not concerned I’ve lost 18 pounds since surgery before the pre-op diet I was 294 the day of surger I was 281 and my follow up was Friday and I weighed 263. Has any one experienced this ? An I still gonna get full once I one to soft foods ?

common sense is a superpower or some such ...the key is to stick with it, hell I'm losing slowly probably because my hormones are all out of wack etc. I'm on low dose bc to keep PCOS at bay and would like to slowly wean off of a lot of pills I'm on, think of a leveler and the bubble it's all over the place right now, I've not had a honeymoon period but I keep trucking through because the sun will come up tomorrow bet my bottom dollar that tomorrow they'll be sun...

Got my Surgery Date!!!! :) 4/2/18! Calling out any April surgery buddies!!!!
Postop replied to Glamgirl's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm an April surgery (2005). I puked a lot my first year. Mostly bc I was drinking too much after eating as I was parched. It could definitely be bc you're eating too quickly or too much too quickly. This isn't to say you're eating too much (especially if it's protein) it just may be too much at one sitting. I still need 2 or more sittings for a meal. -
Appetite back with a vengance!
jennifer13658 replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel like I’m going nuts bc I was under the impression after the bypass you had considerable time before you felt that! Every time I’m around food my tummy feel “funny”. Not quite a growl but definitely empty! I’m panicking bc I am sad that it isn’t stopping even after my protein drinks. I have lost 20 pounds from the liver reduction diet and obviously surgery, but I just want it to stop. -
Appetite back with a vengance!
FluffyChix replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
With your insulin jumpin' all over the place and your sugars spiking I'd be amazed if you had a thimble size tummy and weren't still starving. In short, there is ZERO bariatric surgery that is going to help you. Zero. Sorry. Don't mean to harsh your mellow. I'm only pre-diabetic with an A1c at last check of 5.3. Whah??? Yep, cuz I control it with my diet and now with exercise and it continues to go down. If I ate like you, it would not be long before my A1c was back well over my 6.9 that was when I quit low carbing for a while and started back eating SAD. It would probably be a lot higher, more toward the 8's. I would want to sacrifice small animals and people to satisfy my ravening hunger and appetite. So you have two choices. You can either start being part of your solution, or you can let this "magic bean surgery" help you about as much as it can/will...which may not even meet the national or international averages. You can allow the tool to help to its capacity, but more, you have to adopt a proper diet and not that BS diabetic diet spouted by the ADA or whomever you listen to...if I were in your position, I'd get this guy's book and read it, then internalize it and live it. Within 4 days to 2 weeks you will turn your life around. Your hunger will diminish so much and start to come into alignment. And finally, you will be maximizing the opportunities provided by your new tool. This is one of the smartest diabetologists I've ever seen. He pioneered the concept of eating to your meter, and pioneered and helped develop the home glucometer. http://www.diabetes-book.com/ -

Appetite back with a vengance!
TakingABreak replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Its a weird feeling when your BS drops and you are in "normal" range. You said you start feeling crazy at 5, which is 90 in US metrics.... I usually wake up around 70. I feel hungry and shaky, but ideally you should be sitting between a 6-7 all day long. When you are at a 8-10, that is too high, and your body will react to dipping down, but that doesn't mean that you are "hungry", it just means your blood sugar is lower. I'd try hydrating when it gets within normal range.
