2 months post op - less than 15lbs lost

Its definitely normal to go through many stalls which can sometimes last a few weeks. Your body is resisting. I had lots of stalls early on and I was a slower loser than others too. That being said, Its important to track all your calories and Water intake at the early stages so you can see how many calories you are actually eating. I know I was very surprised on the amount of calories I was actually eating vs what I thought I was eating. This is helpful so when you get into the stalls you can see the progress and see when you had the most successful weight loss...what you were eating and doing during those times.

Ready to throw in the towel

Loosing weight is all about calories consumed versus calories burned.... I once had a Dr. tell me the simplest truth once....he said I was fat because I ate too much! "STOP EATING" Problem was, I could not control my eating on my own, and when my health and my life for that matter started to suffer, my PCP refereed me for WLS - Lap band. Don't ask me what I eat, or how much, counting carbs, calories or anything that sounds like traditional Diet mumbo-jumbo, because I don't know or don't care....All I know is I eat very little, and when I do, it is always something aimed at Protein if practicable...I'll not waste that small window on something like a slice of pizza, etc.or anything that has no real nutritional value...., that is not going to do me any good....when I do eat, it has to be the very best! Last summer I had 1/2 cc taken out of my band, for no good reason...just asked to have it done...immediately I started to eat more, and started to gain weight....went right back and had that 1/2 cc put back in...(had to put up with the Dr.'s and staff's "I Told you so's") and all that happened within 2-3 weeks. It can be that sensitive a balance.

    In between meals

I have to eat snacks. I am only 5wks out so that may change but I have a hard time getting enough calories in if I don't have a protein shake or something between meals.
  4. I'm one month post as well. Now that I can actually eat the whole game is changing. I was doing about 700 calories and 65 gms of protein. 2nd day back at work. I manage a retirement home and i'm on duty to oversee three meals a day. Today I ate 890 calories and 106 gms protein. I was told to get at least 60 gms, but how much is too much? I haven't lost any weight since Friday.

    Regain?

It's more common in RNY patients because the body/intestines adjust to the malabsorption, and grow more villi that allows for more calories to be absorbed. Plus, the pouch of RNY stretches and so can stomas which leads to bigger portions. With the sleeve, there is minimal stretching if your surgeon is well-skilled, and uses a small boughie to make a tight tummy. Of course, you can eat ice cream, drink milkshakes, and not lose or gain weight, but the surgery is just a tool, you have to do the mental side of it. They operate on our tummies, not our brains. The good thing about the sleeve is that you'll have restriction. The rest of the work has to be done by us. We still have to make good choices.
  6. I know I'm not getting in the amount of calories or fluid I just can't hold it all. How did you get it all in?
  7. I just returned from the Dr.. He said it would be fine to go to WW. I probably would not be able to eat all the points. He said I should try to eat between 1200 and 1400 calories a day. I will have my first fill on the 28th., I think I will wait until after the fill to join.

    Shocked Again at Weight!!

Congrats. I too have learned that the phrase you must eat to lose is so true! Down another 2lbs this week. Hiking my calories to 1200 tomorrow as I start P90X!!
  9. I totally believe that we need adequate calories to lose, too. Until I managed to get my calories up to at least 1000 calories I was at a plateau after the first week. Now, it isn't flying off, but I am losing

    Ug! Not "shrink-o"ing fast enough

Congrats on the scale moving!!! It can be SO frustrating, and I totally feel your pain! What I found for me that is a "must do" is get all (and more) of my required Protein, Water and exercise (even if it's only walking). Whenever I don't have all these 3 things working everyday, the scale stalls. However, I FEEL smaller about 2 days before the scale SHOWS it. I know it sounds bizarre, but I swear by it (that and a tape measure). Also, TOM can be a pill. I'd say give it a week, focus on getting your protein, water, exercise and proper calories and that dam scale is gonna make you scream out loud! I've done that twice (screamed from the surprise of the scale) and it ROCKS!!! Fight the good fight Girl, you WILL succeed!! And even if you don't lose it by May 5th, who cares! You will lose it, and as long as you do that's all that matters!

    Weight Loss Has Stalled

I know exactly how you feel. I think sometimes, what if I am the only one that eats 500-700 calories a day and I don't drop a pound? Ever? But it's not possible, is it on those kinds of calories!? We have to lose weight sooner or later. And while the scale doesn't move, they say we are losing inches. I do believe that. I know some blouses that I have, used to be to small. Now they're to big and they hang on me! YAY! And that is the whole point of weight loss....losing those inches and we get stuck on that damn scale!

    Bodybugg

I'm buying a Body Bugg tonight. I can't wait to see how many calories I burn a day. I know that will motivate me to work out. I'm excited!
  13. I'm 5 weeks post op and am trying out different foods I can and can't have, so far I keep things down just fine but I am struggling with eating 6-800 calories , I usually get in around 450-500 and I am always full. I've tried snacking here and their (on healthy items) but I still can't get in more calories. Am i going to be ok and lose weight still? My sleeve is very tight! I also work out 4-5 times a week usually elliptical or treadmill and I'm down 25 pounds since preop . I was sleeved July 7 by Dr. Alvarez.

    Hungry

Try the special K protein powder drink mixes...they have a raspberry lemonade and a kiwi strawberry that are both good. They add 6 g protein to a bottle of water, are yummy, low calorie and the protein will really help with the hunger!

What am I going to do without my band?

First of all, I am so sorry I don't have much else to add here except I doubt the Biggest Loser metabolic crash would happen to you because WLS isn't as severe as the BL diet/exercise regime. What they do to those poor people on the show is stress their bodies so much and to such extremes that the damage is irreparable. Makes the lap band look like a gentle treatment relative to that. I'm sorry you cannot get a revision. I would try to petition with your insurance company (if your first surgery was covered through insurance). Just try to do your best not to gain any more weight. Do you use a fitness/calorie tracker? Find out what your basal metabolic rate is and do your best to stick within the calories you need to stay as you are. That would be the strategy I'd take.

    Bodybugg

Yeah, I know there's another bodybugg site - I read all 50 pages or so of them! egad. I just thought it would be nice to post in the Nov group as well. How are the actitrainers? I was just figuring it out today and while I like gadgets, I don't get them at first - it takes a lot of wrong turns for me to get it right. So, after a lot of swearing and looking up the help button, I think I pretty much figured it out. I know it's going to keep me on track - just because you have to enter every little morsel you eat. And I really like how it shows on a graph where you burn calories. It's pretty cool. I'm glad I got it.
  17. I am only on day 4 too. I am trying to figure out other things of substance to eat as well. I actually think I am eating way below the calorie count I should be eating. The diet is so strict but everything they want you to eat is like 100 calories or less. By the way side note, I love your quote. If you find a way to "jazz it up" please let me know. Have you tried cottage cheese?

    Well, I'm finally stuck........

Cindy, Its either time for a fill or an attitude adjustment. If you are doing all the things that you are supposed to and still not losing weight, get the fill. For some reason us folks who start at over 300 pounds seem to get stuck at the low 200 range. The body rebels for a while, needs time to accept the new weight and then continues on with the losing if you are following bandster protocol. Track your calorie intake and make sure you are getting enough Protein. I was stuck in the 207-210 range for a long while and now I am stuck in the 180's. I noticed that I was eating just a little more, a litttle more everyday without really even noticing. I also slowed down on my exercise and that hurt my progress. Hang in there and dont be a martyr if you really need a fill!!!! Babs in TX 334/184/170 -150 6/23/03

God please help me with my band

I never eat over 1200 calories.

God please help me with my band

I agree with Eileen Jay, just a slight unfill. It sounds like to me you might have to up your calorie intake. What kind of calories have you been managing to get in?
  21. Mariasha

    What did you do?

Try logging everything you eat using a site like the daily plate or something similar. That way you can get an accurate number of how many calories you are consuming. Using that information, tweak your diet and increase exercise to achieve the results you are looking for.

    What did you do?

Truthfully, I think if you up your lean protein calories, that will help a bit. Check your carbs versus protein ratio, too. I did find that my mini-plateau was a combo of carbs and calories, I was using the wrong calories. I also think if you switch up your exercise routine that helps. It's like that P90X - they do have some points about muscle confusion. But, it's more "body confusion". LOL!

    Sex is fun!

We are quite sexually adventurous. My weight has a degree in psychology and studied abnormal sexualality. We aren't out there and we don't do multiple partners but we'very tried a lot of what she studied. Think of the kamasutra for modern day. I swear that I'm a thesis paper. Anyway fast forward to last night. We are having fun with my weight loss. We set sex goals together which keeps me going and excited about the next goal. It was unexpected but I now wear 32 jeans so we had to come up with a reward. This is our first food reward. Mix PB2 with sugar-free Hershey syrup and apply to your partner. Then lick it off! 52.5 calories, 7.5 carbs, 1.5 fat, 5 protein Of one of the best desserts that you will ever have!

    Need a buddy/mentor

What does your surgeon say? What are you eating? How many fills? Do you feel any satiety? What does a typical days meal plan look like? Do you exercise? How many calories a day(do you track?)? Sorry to pepper you but need more info if you want advice?

    Gahhhhh

Any time my weight changes upward on the scale less than 3 pounds I just tell myself "That is just Water weight" and go on. Salt, extra exercise, time of month, sickness, all cause water retention. If you are eating 1000 calories a day it is physically impossible to gain 2.8 pounds of fat in a week, you would have to eat 9800 calories more than you burned, and you only ate 7700 calories so its mathematically impossible. Dismiss it and go on. The good news is when I gain a couple pounds of water weight, when it went away it usually took a couple of pounds with it, kind of a cell flushing thing. I hope it works like that for you too.
