I have had my first adjustment (on Aug. 3rd) with Dr. Francis and just loved her! I have had the band for a year and am on my 4th fill. I have switched doctors to Dr. Francis after being referred by many to her. I have just under 7 cc's in my 10 cc band and was just wondering what to expect. I will tell you what I am experiencing 3 days into it and maybe you can share your experiences. Still on liquids but tried a teaspoon of Yoplait fat free yogart at lunch - back pain, chest pain...maybe I tried it too soon, maybe to fast. I have had a hard time with Gerd (only at night, when I lay down) the first night, this was painful....last night, I must have burped stomach acid up in my sleep because it went into my lungs and had me sitting straight up in my sleep and fighting for air. I finally coughed up the Fluid from my lungs and went back to sleep at an elevated level. All in all, I have lost about 4 pounds in the past 3 days, YEAH ME! Sooo....what should I expect in the next week???? Anybody??

Dr Milton Owens - 5* - if you haven't done so you should rate him
swells98 replied to swells98's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Rating went from a 5 to a 1.....and that is for his Rancho office (the 1)....I picked the wrong time to use Dr Milton...to busy with his own problems (his back)...actually think he may have botched my surgery but since he wants more money to redo and I don't have that kind of money won't ever know...I thought originally it was my fault that I was having such problems but than realized it just wasn't me.......I am not the only one that has had major problems...heartburn horrible, which caused me to throw up constantly and his solution was to eat tums (which I did by the bottle full)....would throw up until my stomach would come through and have to be emptied again (he made a fortune in unfills and refills from me)....Waiting for awhile to be able to afford another doctor that doesn't guess but knows...I can't go through the days and nights of barfing and all the money out of my pocket each week.....glad he works for some, just not for me! -

December Maybe..
rose6850 replied to x07lilsunshinex's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back to work after 3 days with the limitation of lifting no more than 20lbs. I was just fine but was do tired by the end of the first few days. Some people have said they needed a full two weeks. Only you know your body and how you heal, recover, and handle pain. I think 3 weeks would be more than enough though! Good luck!! -

Slow losers club

Shopping at Sinking Boats 'R' Us again? When did you last average five pounds per week or, if we subtract the three-week stall, eight? -
If you get one, I'll get one too I haven't started the hair loss stage yet (I'm at 10 weeks out), but I have been using Nioxin, and went with the Stage 4 for my next bottle as well. Don't know if it'll help, but I will feel better trying. I have my hair longer than it's been in a long long time... all in anticipation of losing it and getting a shorter cut! Ha! And while I know all of this will be happening, it doesn't mean I won't be on here whining about it when it does! I'll start taking the Biotin when it's time for regrowth to try and help speed the regrowth up!

Irrational worries about pre-op testing
PhatPhoenixVSG replied to marypups's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm not really worried about being turned away. I'm not aware of anything wrong other than reflux and this muscle pain in my shoulder. My Dr has reassured me at 3 different visits that it is muskloskeletal related, I'm convinced I am dying lol!! I am a worrier too. I'm going to ask my primary Dr to do a full exam and beg for an EKG a few weeks before.... I'm more worried about dying in Mexico and my family unable to ship me home (irrational I know). I trust my doctor and don't really think that will happen to me. -
That full feeling didn't really kick in until a few weeks later for me. I just wasn't hungry, and wasn't interested in food for quite awhile. And food tasted bland with what little I was eating. Don't worry, it'll happen. But right now you're recovering from major trauma. Your insides are as confused as you are. Give it some time and things will start falling in place. Even now at over a year out I'm taken aback sometimes at how quickly I fill up. Good luck!

Ok. So my current weight loss is steady but VERY slow. I'm almost 6 months out and down just over 60 lbs. I have lost 13.5 inches from my waist and more all over but I'm definitely not losing it like some folks who say the weight "just falls off". I am spinning and elipticaling for literally every ounce. I know they say you have a year to year and a half to lose the weight. At this pace I won't be at my goal weight in that time frame. And I say mine bc my doctor never really set a goal weight. Just that I should lose between 1-2 lbs a week. So between my 3 month and 6 month visit I am on track. But I'm starting to panic bc while its slow but consistent now I feel like I have this year 1.5 year deadline looming. For all the veterans out there, have you continued to lose (if you needed/ wanted to) after that 1 to 1.5 year mark post surgery? Anyone else know how hard and fast that "rule" is?

Hurricane Irma and postponed surgery - ugh...
Booandfrida posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know that in the scheme of things, a postponed surgery is not a big deal. I am in Tampa and my surgery was supposed to be on Monday. My doctor's office is rescheduling for...October 9th! I am so sad right now...I had mentally prepared myself for this, did the liquid diet for 2 weeks, scheduled the surgery in advance of work travel. There's a chance I can get it done on Sept 18th -- but the doctor isn't sure...so I will have to stay on the liquid diet through the hurricane.... Again, I know these feelings are selfish, when there's a hurricane that will affect people's lives. I'm just disappointed right now. Damn you, Irma! -
Different doctors ask different things of you. I've learned that on here. My doctor had me on soft solids after two weeks. I think you should be ok. Just listen to what your body is telling you, and don't overdo it. If you do, you will throw up. I promise.

My name is John and I am from Idaho Falls. I am 30 and had the surgery about 3 weeks ago. I have felt totally fine with no vomiting and little pain. However, I am very hungry and have cheated 3 times since surgery and had no problems. I have lost 15 lbs but am now scared because I have been able to each much more than I thought. I don't get my first adjustment for another 3 weeks. Did anyone else have this problem? I am not sure what to do. I don't want to cheat but it is getting more and more difficult not too. By the way, I appreciate this forum and look forward to learning from everyone.

Banded 05/01/09 and discouraged already
micheleangelina replied to tmbennett8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can appreciate your frustration because we just had major surgery and are anxious for results. This may not be the popular thing to say but I think we all need to have a little patience with ourselves. It is unrealistic to think we can lose 10 lbs the first week and keep doing that week after week. Our bodies do not know how to read a scale. I also don't think a dr. should ever get "annoyed" or "mad" if you are not making significant progress after just 4 weeks. We are healing, our bodies are adjusting to the trauma of surgery. This is a marathon it is not a sprint. I have lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks and don't for a minute expect that to continue. I know I am on the road to better health, weight loss is just an extra benefit to keep me motivated. I know we all feel that way so try not to let the scale ruin your motivation. You are eating healthier, learning to count calories, protein and excersising. You have already begun to win this life long battle with food that many of us have fought. The weight loss is just our reward and it will come in time. Just my honest opinion. Hang in there!! -
Pretty self explanatory....I'm now four weeks post-op and I'm starting to feel hungry, like legit hunger, not head hunger! Lol, anyone else?

How bad is the end result of magnesium citrate?
mactrio replied to mactrio's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, I have the cherry flavor. It was either that or grape (ugh) my hubby picked up a few packs of protein shakes for me today at wal mart. He said he saw them and thought of me, he bought Adkins choc, eas protein shakes in vanilla and choc latte. I'll let you all know next week how I like them.m -
i'm 2.5 weeks out and I've already experienced hunger. I've drank fluids and STILL get the gurgling hungry feeling.

I am new to this forum and hope I can find ome of the support that I can't seem to find in my friends at work. I haven't told them I'm even going to have the surgery because we work in health care and I know how they all feel about WLS. I just finally got my approval letter on Saturday. I had been so down in the dumps waiting on the final approval that I have gotten way off track on what weight I had lost in my 6 months of monthly doctor visits. I had lost 33 lbs during that 6 mths. I've been very depressed while waiting (plus crappy cold weather didn't help) that I have gained 16 lbs in about 7 weeks. :pout: This of course, is giving me doubts about the surgery! On a good note though I have joined the health club in our area and started there with my husband. We've had a really good time. Even took 2 hours of aquatic exercise classes today.

I'm two weeks post op (Monday) and I still have meds to take for the h pylori bacteria (I think that's how it's spelled). I haven't been taking them as regularly because I have to crush them and open the capsule and take the powder. I need suggestions. I've contacted the dr just about every day since I've gotten my meds and they say I have to suck it up. Has anyone had this problem? Did you take the pill whole and felt fine after? I'm 40, I weighed 331 pounds. Passing 300 was not a good day. My biggest issue was beer. I liked my afternoon beers. My father in law is not doing well with his weight, in the hospital a lot for knees and other weight related issues. I'm not diving, I go snow boarding less. It was easy to blame "getting older" but I was realizing I wasn't the functional fat guy I used to be. I got surgery on June 18th. I've lost 56 pounds, 20 of that was pre surgery. I thought I'd miss the beer and caffeine, but I really miss not being able to chug water. I learned the hard way I can eat a lot more by cutting into small pieces and eating very slow. Yes they told me that; but sometimes you have to learn it on your own. Constipation is a bit of an issue but not yet dire. I can eat with the family, had some pepperoni and cheese of pepperoni pizza the other day at a family 4th of July party. I went out to the bar the other night with a coworker, ordered grilled tuna, no beer while he had a fish and chips and a beer. No big deal, brought a lot of food home. Need to work on exercise, I haven't had much time off of work since I started back . In September I go back on travel and live in a hotel for 3 weeks. That should be interesting.
