My One Week Post-Op -- Down 6.4 Lbs!

MyGastricSleeveLife, Good for you, starting off with such a BANG. Makes you feel great, right? Your progress will continue as your smile gets bigger, your wasist will get smaller. IMO - you should get off that scale, only weigh once a week, then you'll be happy and surprised when you weigh in. Welcome to sleeveland, enjoy the view. kathy

Long term food plan

Ha, we are in the same boat. 2 weeks post op. One more week of full liquids. I'm hungry! I spoke to Nut today and she said to stay on track for another week and increase my protein as much as I want. i hate sf, ff stuff. I dont find it real food. Frankenfood. Only sf I do is crystal light. So, I make fresh soups and fruit infused waters and teas. ina garten's roasted tomato basil soup is awesome. Easy, puréed and strain through a fine strainer. Love it. I made this before surgery. Adding plain yogurt to bump protein and make it creamier. I made a Thai carrot soup which had peanut butter sauce in it. Amazingly! Epicurous.com has a fantastic black bean cumin jalapeño soups. This ne needed about 1 more cup of water to thin. Add a very small amount of liquid cheese (Campbell's cheese soup). Sour cream. Yummy. i make my own bone broth. No chemicals, good protein and healing collagen. Easy and cheap. I can make a gallon for about 9 bucks. I drink my protein shakes to hit my goal, then have fun. The soups are pretty low carb and fat because I'm only eating 1/2 Cup over 20-30 minutes. Good fiber also, which we need. Frankenfood had no fiber. Obviously I enjoy cooking, so I'm keeping busy tring to be creative. Hang in there.
3. Hi all, so I am exactly one month out today and am down 21 lbs., which is what I was down on 1/10/13 at my follow-up with my surgeon...soooo apparently I hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I did take my measurements and have lost 8.5", all from my waist up! It needs to switch to below the belt next month.....keeping my fingers crossed. lol

Shakes long term?

My mom is 3 years post op and continues to substitute two shakes a day for meals. She's maintained her 140+ weight loss and directly contributes her success to keeping her shakes in her meal plan. I plan to keep to liquids as long as I can. BTW...I attended a WL support group with her this week where she shared this with the members. I was amazed at how many sleevers who no longer substituted Protein shakes. It seemed like it would easier in the long run...

Shakes long term?

I was on full liquids for three full weeks!

Shakes long term?

I was prescribed full liquids for 2 weeks, which for me was mostly protein shakes and yogurt, (never cared for broth or creamed soup). After that point my doc just wanted to know, "are you advancing your diet"? He didn't want me drinking all my food. Even today at 13 months out, I do 2 protein supplements most days, a scoop of whey in my coffee and a bar in the afternoon.
7. me also...I am 3 1/2 month post op and I am starving...I have lost 60 lb now but no weight loss in the past 3 weeks because I think I'm cheating....,I'm sick about it but I'm so damn hungry..... join the gym...now have to start going...need to be busy so I don't dwell so much on it... very depressed about it....anyway...I feel for u...it sucks....where r u at....I am in California....
8. That's great! I'm in my 7th week out and trying to do all the same things. I know it sounds shallow, but I'm so glad to hear your hair is still healthy. Some have started to lose hair at 6 weeks... makes me nervous - I just don't have enough hair to start with! People are beginning to notice with me as well and I don't like the attention either because I'm thinking it will be followed with "how are you doing it?" Your answer is truthful and appropriate. I'm not sure how I'll answer it - so far no one has asked, and only my boss knows that I had this surgery. Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on being a great role model!
9. Hi! I am new to this forum and I just got my band 2 1/2 weeks ago. Everything went great except I have had a lot of pain in my port area. It feels like it is burning with pinching and pulling. I am comfortable when I am lying down but walking and turning or bending can be excruciating. If I put pressure on it it's better but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I went for my post op appt. last week and then went in again 2 days ago to see about it but the surgeon felt around, said my port was perfectly in place and that this was normal, some people just have more pain than others. I just want to know anyone else who might have experienced this and can tell me it will go away in time! Thanks, I'm glad to be a part of this group!

is this pain normal?

Yes it is normal--mine hurt in the exact same place as yours and didn't go completely away for 4 weeks! Good luck--it does get better!!

Need Opinions....

It seems we all hit a plateau at some point. I had surgery June 22 and have lost 22 lbs and am stuck for a week. I just keep on keeping on. From what I am told you are bascially loosing on your on until you hit your sweet spot with fills and that could take a while. Good Luck

13. Congratulations! Very inspirational and encouraging. I get banded in 2 weeks so seeing your results is so hopeful.
14. Hey ppl!! I just wanted to share my before and during pics with all of you... I hadn't seen my old pics in a while and wow did I look bad back then... So started this whole process at 233 pounds (my highest ever) and was around 215 by my surgery date... I've been loosing slowly since the second week and the scale hasn't moved a lot in a few weeks which is somewhat discouraging but seeing this I get that I'm still loosing inches even though the scale shows almost no weight loss for a month now... I weigh around 189 and I'm 2 months out... I admit I haven't really dieted lately cause of the holidays but I have been more conscious about what I eat and of course my portions are very small... I struggle with getting all my Protein in and also with learning when to stop eating so almost every meal I get this full, really uncomfortable feeling but well I'm still learning... But oh well... Here are my pics (or at least I hope they got attached) ... The first 3 are from a few months ago when I was at my heaviest (holy horrible pics) then there's one with my friends around a week before surgery and the last are all from last week at home and from my trip to disneyworld last week...
15. This is the post I made on last Saturday when I was one month post op. It took awhile to put my feeling to words but it ended up saying what I was feeling so I am going to copy it here. It answers the question for me and what I have received so far from the procedure. The title of the post was One month post op and "The Thing" I am one month post op today. Yay me! Life is so good! Surgery and recovery have been ideal. Did 3 weeks of liquids and 10 days so far of soft foods and learning how to treat my new tiny tummy. I have been good to it thus far by following my post op diet to the T. My new tiny tummy has in return, treated me exceptionally well. I believe we are going to get along just fine. My stats after one month are 13 lost on pre-op and 17 lost since surgery. Again, yay me! 'Now for "the thing" My stats are NOT the most important thing!! WTF?? I didn't see that one coming! At all! I have not lost a single pound in over 10 days. I know by the million and ten OMG! I'm 3 weeks out and hit a major stall what is happening to me my surgery didn't work threads that the chances of my scale getting in on that action was was pretty high and sure enough, my scale is determined to be the life of that party. This too shall pass. What I didn't see coming was "the thing". During this adjustment of not losing weight, my way of thinking has taken on a life of it's own. My brain did not freak out, didn't run for the nearest Taco Bell or Margarita with Mexican food. Every time I stepped on the scale, my brain would say your body is going through a huge adjustment and it will catch up. Be patient. I would step off the scale shrug and think yep, still adjusting. No big deal. Maybe even a good thing? I have made huge changes and I am still adjusting to them, so to be fair, my body needs time to adjust as well. I am listening to my body, giving it what it needs and it won't fail me. I know this now. I have never known this before. When did this happen? I don't know but it is coursing through me and I plan to never let it get away. One month out and I feel different. I physically feel better, I know I look better, but most importantly, my outlook and new knowledge feel so powerful and I know that I am in control. It may take my body longer to get to the healthy weight that it needs to be but "the thing" is, it will get there. I know this to be true now. Finally.
16. Ok great, thank you. I will take it one day this week when i dont have to go anywhere!!
17. I am a little confused....I was banded in July '05, I had a fill in September and then again in November. I am at 2 cc. Most of January and February I felt ike I could eat a horse and that I wouldn't have any trouble doing so. The only time I felt any restriction was when I went on a cruise. I wasn't able to eat much of anything. Actually lost about 10 lbs when everyone else gained about 10 lbs. I went to the doctor in late February for a fill but he said everything was the way it was suppose to be so he wouldn't let me have a fill. I thought he was crazy since I didn't feel any restriction at all. Now, almost 3 weeks later, I am unable to eat anything other than liquids. What is up with that? My restriction changes all the time. Many have said I probably feel more restricted during stressful times and all, I can understand that, but I don't feel as though I am going through any stress right now. And to make matters worse, I passed out in the shower this morning. I was standing there, realized I wasn't feeling well so I thought I would sit down, but I guess before I could, I passed smooth out and fell out of the shower with my head banging against the bathroom tile floor. Thank goodness my husband had not left to go run yet and was still there when it happened. He said when he came in I was staring straight up, not blinking and he thought I was dead. Next thing I remember was him yelling at me to wake up. We went to the clinic, but they couldn't find anything. Hopefully it was just my sugar dropping low for a moment or something. Has anyone else ever suffered from the restriction issue?

Changes in Restriction/Passing Out

My restriction is also ever-changing. I HATE the feeling of being too restricted. My restriction, after a fill doesn't usually kick in until a week or two. Anyway, I am thinking along the same lines as you regarding the shower incident-low blood sugar. It's funny how "fickle" the band is, even among some of the older bandsters. Not older, but wiser??? You know what I mean.
19. I agree, you've had so much done. Your brain is probably just saying "What, more?" You know a fill isn't a big deal, so you'll have to decide if you are thinking logically. Weigh out the consequences of waiting two more weeks and decide if that's what you want. Six weeks is generally the recuperation period, so maybe it's just too soon and your body is telling you that.

Emmi Program

Emmi - is a online program that is a little tutorial for your journey with the lapband. 1st one I watched (the Dr. office gave me a sheet with a code to log in with) was before surgery, and what to expect, 2nd one was 4-6 weeks postOp, prior to any adjustments/fills, 3rd is about adjustments/fills. They give you an opportunity to asked your Dr. questions (which they answer you at your appointments), they give you an idea what the band looks like after surgery, why you wait to eat solids due to stomach swelling etc.
21. I'm now 1 week post op and feeling better than ever. Had a new experience last night, however. I woke up three times feeling like I couldn't breathe. I was breathing through my mouth and was extremely dry. I don't have any signs of congestion, tried to adjust my sleeping position. but every time I woke up in the same annoying fashion. Are there certain diet foods that might cause this or certain meds. I didn't add anything different yesterday. Anyone else have this? Thanks Bob
22. This Friday will make 7 weeks post-surgery, and this morning I finally entered Onederland! 199.3, to be exact. (Hence, the "just barely" in the title). I'm down 34 pounds; almost halfway to my goal weight. Still having a bit of trouble with the Protein (I either hate the taste, or can't get it down), but I'm not giving up. i ate about 5 bites of steak the other night, and it stayed down just fine, but I was so FULL!! A few papaya enzyme chewable tablets helped it go down a lot easier. Despite the eating difficulties... BEST DECISION I'VE EVER MADE!!
23. Thanks for the info everyone...good to see I'm not the only one who doesn't need to do much pre-op and I may steal the white grape juice idea the day before lol... My issue now is I just realized when the woman told me to go for blood work a couple weeks ago, she put an EKG appt on there for the same day in a different building..I had told her I could squeeze the blood work in before an appt I had later that morning so I never even looked at the paper that said I needed an EKG done that day. My surgery is supposed to be Thursday - I'm hoping I can call and get one scheduled and get over there tomorrow and it will be done in time. I hope since results are immediate for that it will be okay...I see others mention getting an endoscopy but I didn't need one of those I guess or another case of everyone's surgeon being different... I have a sinking feeling my surgery is going to be pushed
24. Just in the last week or so, I've noticed that I seem to be feeling my band around my stomach, something I've never noticed before. The only time I was ever aware of my band was if I ate too much. I'd get a sharp feeling, like a stitch in my side, and a sensation of pressure until the food passed through. I've never PBed, never vomited, have no trouble eating anything at all. I'll occasionally feel slightly stuck, usually with bread or too big a bite of something, but after a minute or two it passes and I can continue eating. This new feeling is pretty much constant. It's like I can actually feel the band squeezing my stomach. It's not painful, not even really uncomfortable, just.....different. I'm going to monitor it, because I'm thinking it may be connected to TOM. It hasn't affected my ability to eat - I don't feel more restricted than before, don't have any trouble with morning eating or anything like that. I'd like to get your thoughts on this. Thanks!
25. Getting off blood pressure medication was my primary goal in having weight loss surgery. I want to be healthy and have a long life. Had surgery 2/4/13 (only 16 days ago). Including the pre-op weight loss, I have lost a total of 25 pounds! My surgeon advised almost immediate follow up with my primary care doctor to manage the medications with the weight loss. This week, I have been able to get off ALL my blood pressure medications! While I am still monitoring my blood pressure, I don't think I will have to go back on meds as I continue to lose weight. When my doctor's office called with the news, I had to shut my office door and cry. This almost feels like a dream. I am humbled beyond words at what a miracle this surgery has been - and I am only starting this process. Can only imagine all the good that will come losing the rest of this weight. Any inconvenience, discomfort, cost or hassle associated with this whole process is MORE than worth it.
