    Cooking help!

bariatric foodie has some easy recipe. I highly recommend ricotta bake (google "eggface ricotta bake") - super easy and tasty. Sometimes I add some sauteed spinach or a spoon of pesto. If you like shrimp, it is super easy and tasty. Defrost a few, add a bit of oil or butter to a pan over medium heat, and saute for a few minutes until they're pink. You can add some spices. I like cajun seasoning (if you can deal with heat), or italian seasoning. Added: this is super easy, don't even need to defrost the fish: https://www.bariatricfoodie.com/one-pan-cooking-tilapia-fire-roasted-tomato-sauce/ But, one fish fillet will serve me three times, and I don't eat thawed fish more than two days after it thaws, so I often have to toss some fish. Also really like egg salad - just 2 hard boiled eggs, masked with either a bit of ripe avocado or 1 TBL mayo and 1 TBL greek yogurt.
  2. I am just over 6 months out. My typical day is breakfast: scrambled egg and salsa with one piece of Canadian bacon. Snack: greek yogurt snack 2: turkey pepperoni with cheese Lunch: grilled chicken with veggies or soup Dinner: lean meat with veggies. I do have some carbs: mashed potatoes, crackers, popcorn, etc but in limited quantities. I can pretty much eat anything but in VERY limited quantities. I don't know what sliming is, but I have never gotten sick. I get full really quickly though. Sweets are difficult. If I partake it is VERY small.

    Bariatric Emergency Kit

What do you consider a (melodramatic) Emergency these days? Late to work? 2lb weight gain? Bad date? Spilled coffee? Sour yogurt? Budget due? Teens? How do you combat it? How do you process your emotions now instead of letting them eat away at you? Or you eating them into submission? What tools & (let's be honest) foods are on your emergency bag to keep you from going into shock?

    HELP HELP HELP!!

it will pass ... Definitely a good bone broth will help. Also what protein shake are you drinking? Some just aren’t a good quality and make you feel hungrier. I use PEScience select and it’s a blend of premium whey protein and casein to help feel full longer. I mixed one scoop with 6 ounces of plain unsweetened Ripple milk for extra protein. I think it came to about 160-170 calories and 30 grams protein. And carbs depends on flavor but no more than 3 net carbs ... I like peanut butter cookie. I would mix it, put it in the fridge to let it thicken then mix again. I’d thin it with a little water only if I needed to. actually I still use it and mix half a scoop with Greek yogurt. Either plain nonfat Fage. Or TwoGood yogurt. Although my current addiction is Mixing it with oikos triple zero peanut butter banana flavor Greek yogurt cups. I put a little pink salt. Mix it up and put it in the freezer 30 minutes and mix again. Like a fake ice cream. And use a little sugar free land o lakes whipped cream. But it’s extremely low carb and gets me the protein I need. It’s actually my go to dinner ... but I’m weird that way. mixed in yogurt it has a frosting like consistency. link to the protein http://rwrd.io/c6uus2e
  5. Hi all! I have all my paperwork for what to drink/eat for my clear liquid & full liquid phases. What I don’t have is an idea on how much to drink/eat during full liquids. I know I can have thinned Greek yogurt, thinned applesauce, thinned & strained soups, etc. But, hypothetically, could I sip on soup or eat yogurt all day long as long as I got my protein in? (I wouldn’t actually do that) In the purée phase & beyond I’m told how many ounces of each category to have in a meal. I just need an idea on how much to consume during my full liquid phase. Any advice is much appreciated!

    Unflavored Protein

I use unflavored whey protein from GNC, I add it to soups, mashed potatoes, shakes, yogurt etc. it has a milky taste so I try to add it to things with an underlying milk taste so its more masked.
  7. Try protein hot chocolate. I found it much easier to drink than cold protein shakes. If you make it with Fairlife milk instead of water, it has as much protein as a shake. I love the BariatricPal brand, but there’s a similar product from ProtiDiet that you can buy on Amazon. You can also try protein soups if you’re tired of sweet drinks. Another option is clear protein drinks (like Protein2O or Syntrax Nectar), which are more like juice than shakes, so you might find them more palatable. When are you allowed to start puréed foods? You can mix protein powder into almost anything puréed (unflavored for savory foods, flavored for sweet foods like yogurt or sugar-free pudding).

    Calorie deficit

No I mean your total burn from 12:00AM-12:00PM. For example, when I used my BMF, I burned anywhere between 2300-2400 calories a day. That is with a workout and my normal daily activities. So each day I'd eat 1700-1800 calories. So yes, 500 calorie deficit a day, about a pound loss a week. If you want to do a bigger calorie deficit, go for it, but I can tell you from experience it's not wise or advisable. My metabolism/thyroid are ruined at the moment due to such large deficits. But, you make that call yourself. As for healthy things to eat, hm..that's your call. I've lost the mindset of healthy vs. nonhealthy foods; I like to think no food is "taboo" and I've truly learned a calorie is a calorie from the general standpoint, but I don't like to argue that with anyone (lol!) I like eating almonds, carrots, Protein Bars, greek yogurt with granola or Cereal, fruit (peaches recently!), etc. Just be sure you're getting enough protein/fat throughout the day with whatever you do choose to eat. Don't lose track of your hopes yet The scale may not register 170 but you could be losing inches, which is much better than a decrease on the scale. And while 1.5lbs may not seem a lot, it's 1.5lbs closer to your goal. Keep that in mind. Let me know if you need anymore help!
  9. I consider myself something of a gourmand and I love well prepared beautiful food. I have made food from all cuisines and was also the head baker in a european bakery renowned in this area. But the cup of Trader Joes organic tomato Soup thinned with a half a cup of milk I just had is probably the best eating experience I have ever had. After my last week....I savored every sip and experienced it in a way I can't remember ever doing. Each sip suffused my body with the most divine feelings. My senses were 100% alive! And tomorrow- I finally get yogurt if I thin it to liquidy, I mixed a fruit at the bottom Greek yogurt thoroughly tonight and then strained the bits of fruit out. It is glistening in the fridge awaiting me. I think one new food now that I am allowed thin liquids is enough.
  10. Meggie the TJ's cottage cheese and their greek yogurt are amazingly awesome too! Lynn is on her way to Vegas as we speak and as soon as she gets here (probably about 4 days drive) we're going to TJ's and shop. love love love Trader Joe's stuff. Tomato, icky. Not sure if that's my cup of tea, but maybe. It just seems a shame to waste it by not dunking a grilled cheese sandwich into it lol XOXO Renee` and yeah...your face does look thinner! WOOT!
  11. This is an EASY desert, and so yummy. It started off as a high fat desert made with pound cake, lemon curd, heavy whipping cream, you get the picture. Well, over the past year, I have made it so many times, I have come up with an alternative recipe and it will WOW a crowd. Wendy's Lemon berry Trifle 1 14oz Can of Fat Free Sweetened Condensed Milk 2 6oz containers of Light Lemon Yogurt 1/3 Cup Lemon juice (use fresh lemons, not the fake stuff) 2 Tsp grated Lemon Peel 1 Large Whip Cream (FREE) 1 Large pre-made Angel food Cake 1 Cup Sliced Fresh Strawberries 4 oz Fresh Blueberries (or more, but the container I get is this size) 4 oz Fresh Raspberries (or more) 1/4 Cup Slivered almonds, toasted Splenda (optional) Cut cake into 1" cubes, separate into thirds. In large bowl, combine mild, yogurt, lemon juice and peel. Fold in 2 Cups Whip Cream (or more, adjust to taste) In large Trifle bowl, place 1/3 Cake, top with 1/3 Lemon mixture, then layer all of the strawberries on top. I sprinkle a small amount of Splenda on top of the fresh fruit when it isn't in season. Repeat cake, lemon mixture and all of blueberries (and Splenda if needed) Repeat Cake, lemon mixture and all of Raspberries (and Splenda if needed) Top with whip cream Toast almonds in dry pan until brown, let cool and sprinkle on top of whip cream. Refrigerate at least 8 hours before serving.

    SF Popsicles on Liquid diet?

Nesser08192: I just looked back at my written liquid pre-op liquid diet. It says that you can have up to 3 no sugar added fudgsicles in a day. However, the sugar free popsicles weren't limited. We could also have up to 3 per day of Dannon Light, Yoplait Light, or Colombo Light yogurt. Hope this helps. You're doing the most difficult part when you're on this stage. Good luck. Sue

What to do when you a test for something sweet

I eat either dannon light & fit greek yogurt or the oikos greek yogurt zero in flavors like strawberry cheesecake or caramel apple pie. Many of these yogurts have 12 grams of protein and I choose the flavors with less than 15 grams of carbs. I also eat low carb protein bars. Everytime I want something sweet, I reach for a protein rich sweet.

    Protein

I found that one scoop of the protein powder I use (PEScience Select) mixes very well with TwoGood Yogurt (80 calories, 2 grams of sugar, and 12 grams protein) it has a texture like frosting. I stick to having protein supplements for breakfast since I don’t have energy for anything else. my nutritionist also said to go off protein supplements at some point but that once a day was ok and suggested mixing protein powder in yogurt and other foods.

    Savory Greek Yogurt

Oh and eggface has some great Greek yogurt dipping sauce ideas. One that stands out in my mind was with cucumber Lemon Greek seasoning garlic powder. Use it as a dip for meat- lamb would be delicious with this I think!

    May 19th band date

We have 8 of us on the 19th of May...dont know where they went.. I am eating yogurt and creamy soups now.. but cant wait until next week for mash potatoes.... I also have my protein drinks.. try to be creative with them so they are different... Hope you all are doing well//
  19. Tried to eat some Breakfast this morning - and I know this doesn't sound very breakfasty, but I've been so light on Protein - it was 3 oz of cooked chicken breast pureed with yogurt. I took a teaspoonful and it just wouldn't go down. I had real discomfort as I swallowed, further up my oesophagus. I stopped eating immediately, waited a while and took some Water. I made the puree even more liquid with more yoghurt and took it with me for lunch. I did manage to eat it, but it wasn't as easy as it has been in the past. Tonight I made some pureed of salmon and brocolli. I managed to eat it but again, it's quite uncomfortable. I suppose I want to know why this would have come on so suddenly when I've been eating easily for the last week. This is my first week of mushy following 2 weeks of liquids. Needless to say, I'm worried something is going wrong.

What to do before pre-op diet?

Another Houston area person!!! Yeah  Who is your surgeon? I was told to do the slimfast Low Carb drinks. They are $5.50 area for a 4 pack at Walmart. I would cut out all carbonated drinks now!!! On my pre-op diet I did 3 amaze-rx shakes. For breakfast you got one serving of two of the following - toast, egg, oatmeal, yogurt. Dinner was 1 serving of lean meat and 2 servings of green veggie - beans, brocolli, lettuce, peas. There are several good support groups in the area... PM anytime!!
  21. my stomach sounds like an airport sometimes i swear - it does get a little less noisy the further away from surgery. i ate two weeks full liquids- no real food until week 4 - eggs made me puke and hurt even. stay with mashed potatoes, yogurt those items for a bit and yes you feel full after a bite or two - or at least i did . wait a good 30 minutes to drink before a meal and after wait 30 minutes before you drink.... that pocket is tiny
  22. I am only 8 days post op. brought yogurt for breakfast and a shake for lunch. Ate the yogurt w/half a mashed up banana, then ate the other half banana why am I not full??? This cant be right. Worried I'm going to break out the shake before lunchtime : ( should I just keep drinking water?? Not sure what full feels like yet. Any help?
  23. Yes its hard getting use to eating slowly and I say this to you almost 2 months after my surgery. To be honest with you I stopped drinking Protein shakes after my surgery but then started again after my first fill. I would think that eggs should be good but try some blended Beans especially if you cook them yourself they will be better tasting. Try playing with your Protein Shakes to change up the nasty flavor...example 1/2 cup of yogurt (whichever) 1/2 cup of banana and strawberries (from the frozen section work fine and last longer) Splash of soy milk (vanilla flavor adds more) and 1/2 of serving of that terrible protein...and blend the crap out of it. The frozen fruit makes it taste like a smoothie, and you can add more milk to reduce the taste of the protein... refrigerate the left overs and have them the next day.

    Plateaued for 4 months now

This is a post from Newsho from a long time ago. Maybe her approach will help you? I've just copied it and pasted it below. Good luck. LENGTH ALERT! (This has very detailed tips and tricks, so this is not a short post. Just a "heads up") People asked me a lot how I went from Slow Loser to getting to goal. I did better my second year of banding and when the weight came off - it really came off. This is something that worked for me, and I recommended to other Bandsters. Granted, these are tips that's not in any LapBand brochure or doctor's manual, and YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY - but if you already think of yourself as a Slow Loser like I was, then maybe you will be open to trying something to shake things up a bit. When I needed a weight-loss push, I didn't cut down on calories much (if I'd recently had a fill adjustment, that's different) but in general: I *added* Protein to every thing I ate. This helped me to lose steadily (although it sped up my weight loss, more importantly it kept it steady). And it worked! Some Bandsters in my same banding date were better at counting calories - I wasn't. Some were better at counting carbs, I wasn't, but I excelled at ADDING protein. And I did well and later, other fellow Bandsters were asking me for help and tips. How did I do it? I did not reduce calories or the amount I consumed (without a fill it wasn't much need to try that) and yet, I still lost. (I added a little bit of Beans, or a sprinkle of cheese (my favorite), or eggs - whatever I could. I didn't reduce what I ate, but I "upped my protein" - and it worked. With the band, if you eat more protein, you generally will find yourself eating less overall - it doesn't feel that way but you do. Every single time I added more protein to my regular Band-friendly meals, I lost more weight, even though I wasn't eating less calories sometimes. Sounds crazy - but in my particular case, if I didn't keep my protein levels up, my body held on to calories a lot more. Who needs their bodies "hoarding" calories? If adding a bit of food meant I would lose more, it was worth a try. It worked. And I paid attention to the TYPE of protein I ate. (Even before banding, I didn't eat beef or pork at all. And the band was developed in other countries where the pork and beef consumption is a lot lower than it is here in the 'States. I'm not a vegetarian, I just eat seafood and poultry only. My doc said this helped my weight loss a lot because the protein I ate was leaner, not fattier protein like pork/ham/bacon or beef/hamburger/fatty red meat. So I didn't have to regulate my portions as much as some Bandsters did. My can of tuna did more for me than a hamburger ever would have.) Also, I'm a single/childless Bandster who lives alone, so I eat out for almost every meal. If I could make it to goal - while eating out - ANYBODY can. How did I do it? Here were some tips. At Breakfast, with my morning egg(s), I added a bit of cheese on top. Or I would have cottage cheese added. For protein and hunger reasons, cottage cheese did better than yogurt for me - unless I just had a fill or was very very filled or adjusted. The most filled I am, the less I eat in the mornings. So especially if you are not at your sweet spot, try Proteins that "stick" with you more to keep hunger away. Yogurt alone was not good enough of a breakfast for me, with the band it just went through, and wasn't really filling. Now if I charged up my yogurt with lots of nuts, seeds, and wheat germ - then BAM! I'm not much of a cold Cereal eater (I prefer hot cereals) but if I had one I made sure it was a protein-packed one (I LOVE Grape Nuts cereal best. Go Lean is awesome, and several of the Oatmeals & Cream of Wheat cereals have good protein content. I also added a few nuts to those, too. If I had a yogurt smoothie drink as a snack, I had them had a half scoop of Protein powder (a full scoop can make it too thick sometimes) or some soy or nuts. Lunchtime was easy to get more protein in. I'd eat a scoop of tuna salad or chicken salad for lunch - and have them add some shredded cheese, some seeds and/or some nuts. I also love Soup. Usually a cup is a nice start to my lunch if I'm having a scoop of salad or tuna. If it's my whole lunch I get a bowl of soup and eat what I can from it. My band will tell me when to stop. Almost any kind of any soup is great with a sprinkle of cheese or nuts added. Beans, too! With my dinner I always like a cup of soup to begin. Gets me going, jump starts & 'primes' my band and it's a great protein opportunity. Then if I could, I concentrated on seafood. ANY type of fish worked great with my band - From catfish to salmon to snapper to Tilapia. Or even shrimp or my all time favorite, calamari. I enjoy oysters in season and clams all year. The weeks that I ate more seafood, I lost more weight - across the board. Usually grilled is a good choice to be honest I even ate it fried (sorry, weight loss experts) and I still did well. And with my seafood, if I could I added beans to almost everything. With my steamed veggies, I added nuts and a sprinkle of cheese sometimes. I know it's not very It really does work! See when I restrict my calories or even when I try to cut down on fat - I usually just end up cutting down on protein. And no matter how "well" or how much less I eat, if I cut my protein my body won't 'burn' up the fat. It holds on to it. I know that protein is the fuel that helps the LapBand machine work and not trying to diet or 'cut down' was a blessing to me. I've had other Bandsters try this, and yes they are skeptical at first but when they start seeing inches lost (muscle really does weigh more than fat, so your clothes tell you before the scale ever will) then they get on the bandwagon. So don't just 'cut down' - ADD some food on your plate. That's right. ADD MORE nuts, boiled/diced egg, beans, cheese, seeds and other yummy forms of protein. Your body and your LapBand will thank you for it. Also adding protein allowed me to eat fewer carbs and save them for what was really a nice treat - a nice martini or occasional glass of wine, with dinner. Yes, I'm a drinking Bandster. All the successful European Bandsters I knew drank a glass or two now and then and they were my role models. I can't drink a lot AT ALL - a little goes a long way, but it was nice to get to goal weight without ever missing a Friday Happy Hour. I got the band to enhance my life, not take away some of the things that make it enjoyable. I eat out at restaurants, I go have drinks with friends - and I feel and look great. BRAVO! Good Luck to you. (And since so many people asked me the same question in private posts - that's why I am posting it on the Slow Losers board too...) Keep up the good fight. I did it - and you can too.

    Breakfast ideas ...

I eat hard cooked eggs. I remove the yolks since they don't agree with me, but two hard cooked egg whites are only 34 calories with 8 grams of protein. If I'm still hungry, I have Greek yogurt-Dannon Light & Fit is 12 grams of protein and only 80 calories.
