Hi everyone. I had surgery on Monday the 13th. I am easily getting in my required liquids. My issue is my Protein. When I have a Protein shake I get nauseas. I have tried both pre-made/powder.. diff brands/flavors. I've told the nurse and surgeon when they have called to check on me and they both just keep telling me to do the best I can. I wanted to ask people who have been through this .. has anyone dealt with this and what did you do? I am supposed to be Clear Liquids (plus pudding and greek yogurt) until I am 2 weeks post-op ... Has anyone had to take a nausea pill just to get protein down each time.. Any ideas?

Day 2 Liver shrink
OregonTeacher replied to closer400's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you drink often. I have six full liquid meals per day and can have all the clear liquids I want. I am about to go to bed and it is the end of day five. Greek yogurt helps...SF jello or pudding gives your mouth something to do...drinking something hot tells your tummy it has more in it than it does. Sf hot cocoa or cider or bouillon/broth can help with that and you are not limited on the quantity. -
I am currently at the end of my 5th day of my full liquid diet. I have been having three Protein shakes per day, two servings of tomato Soup, and a yogurt. (3 meals and 3 snacks) so far it hasn't been bad at all. I "eat" every 2- 2.5 hours and drink in between. I have lost 5 lbs by this morning. I have two days of full liquids and then one of Clear Liquids only the day before my surgery. I would have been required to have two weeks full liquids, but I lost enough weight prior to now that they reduced it. Some surgeons require you to clean out your system the day before surgery by drinking a prescribe clean out concoction, but mine does not. Really, it hasn't been bad at all as long as you drink something often. Mid you wait too long between your "meals" it will be harder to keep control of your hunger and it is harder to get it back under control than it is to keep it in control. Good luck!

I got my JP drain out yesterday and it sure feels good to be rid of that thing! I have a lot more mobility and I got to take a real shower without being tethered to that thing. Things are going pretty well. I am meeting 60 grams of protein and getting all of my fluids. I felt the need to change things up a little bit today. I had been out running around and decided to get some baby food. I have been doing fine with Strawberry Sorbet Unjury, Chicken Soup Unjury, and Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt, but I just really needed a little variety tonight, so I got some Gerber baby food. I have a little jar of Turkey and Gravy and a half a container of Squash for dinner. It may not have been quite a half cup, but boy oh boy did that hit the spot! I guess I just needed a "meal," you know? Since I am only at 50 gm for my protein intake today I can still have one of the Oikos yogurts later on, which will bring me up to 65 grams for the day and I actually feel satisfied. I felt a little funny shopping for baby food but I think it was worth it.

Any April Sleevers?
MrsG'sjourney replied to mis4may's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Camen606 I had my sleeve April 2, I'm on week 3 diet which includes scrambled eggs (tuna next week) I agree with you about the protein shakes! I am so OVER them. My surgeon said that I may have to supplement my protein with shakes to get all my protein. That did not thrill me. Anyway, I did something stupid today, I ate one egg in probably 5-6 minutes. Not a good idea, it was very painful! Lesson learned. I think I feel better and sometimes forget that I had surgery. This week is cottage cheese, yogurt, beans, cheese, eggs, and a few other things I can't remember, probably because I don't like them anyway. Good luck on your journey, I like hearing what others are doing that had the surgery around the same time. No one I know understands my choices, so I have found this page very helpful! -
Hi there, congrats on being newly banded! Try to stick with your dr's plan as much as you can. The risk of eating solid foods too early is that your body is still healing and you could risk disrupting that process if you have a "stuck" incident. Some soft food ideas are: Ricotta cheese with tomato sauce Any kind of pureed veggie Soup (try adding unflavored Protein powder to make it more filling) Hummus Refried Beans (with melted cheese, with salsa, with sour cream) Greek yogurt with pureed fruit Soft and well chopped tuna or egg salad Softly scrambled eggs with cream cheese and herbs Chili meat (without the beans) Soft meatballs in sauce Hopefully this will give you some inspiration. One of the big tricks is to make sure you're getting protein in since that will keep you full longer. Good luck!

About three weeks out I got very inexplicably moody. It really didn't bother me that people around me could eat normally - it just bothered me that I couldn't and I was afraid I would never be able to enjoy even the basics ever ever again I'd sometimes just sit at the table & start crying halfway through my tiny 1/4 cup of yogurt. At that point, I had a lot of nausea and trouble with a bunch of foods - but it was temporary and now at 5 months, I can really eat anything with no issues. But it was more than that. When you go through a major surgery like we have, your body's hormones get all out of whack for a bit. Understanding that helped me keep things in perspective. You also are eating a LOT less calories so fatigue might also be a factor in the emotions. I am sure your doc will check all your blood work & Vitamin levels at your appointment to see if anything needs to be adjusted. Hang in there - this is just a little blip in the road and things will get better very soon!

Finally got to eat....
blashlee replied to blashlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think my doctor has a "puréed" stage now that I look at my paperwork. This week I was given a small list to eat from which included yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, lentil and split pea soup. Next week I have a list that includes deli meats and cheeses, canned chicken and tuna, soft fish, well cooked beans/lentils/legumes, soft tofu, egg salad, and feta and ricotta cheeses, which I will eat for two weeks and as long as those foods go down well I move onto more stuff like ground meats and soft cooked veggies and non-fibrous/stringy fruits. -
Thanks for sharing, @@JustWatchMe! I have never been a drinker; my poison: carbs. I thought I would be one of the 'lucky' ones who could not tolerate eating bread, rice, Pasta, potatoes, PIZZA!!. But alas, I am not. I can eat anything (including chicken) and unfortunately I know this because I have tried them all with great success! UGH! pizza is my downfall (oh and pastries). I am back to abstinence. As previously mentioned, I also signed up for a boot camp that began this past Monday. It is kicking my butt literally and figuratively! I am enjoying it and dying at the same time. B- shake S- greek yogurt L- tuna salad D- ? Congrats on getting it done, Shannon! Have a great day!

Finally got to eat....

Thanks. So far I've had yogurt, scrambled egg, refried Beans, and string cheese. Everything has gone down well. Yogurt seems to be a "slider" food tho, so i won't be relying on it much for my meals and my doctor doesn't condone Snacks. It's s great Protein source but it didn't fill me up at all. I was drinking Premier Protein mostly. I also had Proteins from Cellucor (Red Velvet was my favorite, I haven't tried it post op) and also Syntrax Fuzzy Navel (haven't been able to tolerate it post op). I drank a lot of Iced Passion Tea from Starbucks and crystal light strawberry lemonade. -
Head Hunger and work
Miss Mac replied to tlemieux220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The trick to eating correctly at work is Planning. Invest in an insulated lunch bag so you can take small portions of ok foods from home, like boiled eggs, cheese, an ounce of nuts, and yogurts. Sliced cucumbers and tomatos have become my desperation friends. Instead of eating my tuna salad as a sandwich, I now use thick slices of cucumbers as crackers. I have lately discovered that if I eat a gherkin, my taste buds don't ask for anything else for a while. No kidding: if you are hungry and it is not time to be hungry, drink some non-caloric beverage or a Protein shake. Someone said on the forum the other day that if we are between meals, hunger is not an emergency. I printed that out and taped it to my desk in my home office. -
Head Hunger and work
JamieLogical replied to tlemieux220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are just now getting back to work, you can't be too far out from surgery and you are already eating crackers and chips?!?! I wasn't allowed anything crunchy until THREE MONTHS post-op. As for eating during the day at work, it doesn't have to be a bad thing. I eat breakfast, lunch, and two Snacks during my work day. I start off by bringing a Protein bar for breakfast (since you are probably not actually supposed to be on solids yet, you could do a ready-to-drink protein shake). Between breakfast and lunch, I have a reduced fat string cheese, which you can probably safely have at this point. For lunch I have leftover meat from a previous dinner, but you could probably do something like tuna or chili? In the afternoon I have Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt. I mix some granola or kashi Cereal into mine, but you probably shouldn't be having that quite yet. So by eating every two hours or so, I never feel hungry at work. And I manage to get a lot of protein in! -
Better than sugar free ice pops
bluesclues replied to Jaimianna79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many ounces of Water did you use to make the pops? I mix a scoop with greek yogurt and its really good. -
EDIT: I am 8 days post op, not 9/ Got ahead of myself. Hello folks! I have had a touchy tummy today. I got my JP drain removed earlier today (YAY!!!!!) and while I was at the doctor I noticed a whole lot of rumbling in my tummy. Since that time I have felt a little queasy and gassy. I mean, I have been gassy since surgery but this feels moreso than usual. My diet consists of 2 unjury shakes a day made with Water, an Oikos Greek Triple Zero yogurt, and some V8 with Fiber. I wonder if it is a lactose reaction but I am not taking in exessive dairy. Am I normal? Will it go away? What helps? Thank you in advance!

1 week post-op Blues
Magic Mojo replied to Heybrendacleo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let those emotions work for you not hurt you. Listen to powerful empowering music. Read what speaks to your soul. Get some inspiraton. LOVE YOURSELF for what you are going through, who you were and you you will be. I went to choir practice on my day 7. I thought I was to tired. But I did go. And the music was so beautiful, and all my friends so encouraging and supportive. And it was hard to sing because I kept weeping. We are learning the Rutter Requiem. It is drop dead gorgeous. (no pun intended...) Every staff, every song, the whole thing. Download the Choir of Clare College version. Listen over and over until you get it. Or watch a Disney movie like Hunch Back of Notre Dam. The music, the human suffering, the drama and the resolution at the end will give you something to cry about. Chew some sugar fee gum. Move around. It is spring, go outside and smell the new world, it is your new world. You are renewed. We are so lucky. We are blessed. Find 1 tiny step toward the light, then another. Soon you will be dancing. You are so beautiful whey you love yourself truly. Start. Marti PS. have some greek yogurt. Plain is so good. My taste buds are exceptionally sharp. They wouldn't like the Protein drinks much either. My doctor has forbidden us to use Protein Drinks. So it's been yogurt and cottage cheese. I happen to love the two mixed. I get 2 oz per meal. But they are good. It's all good. You have to fight to be happy. -
Can Brushing Our Teeth Can Help Us Lose Weight?
Edavidson replied to Miss Mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you can't stand your protein shakes anymore I can tell you how to get them in and improve the taste. If you have a ninja or blender, fill it half full with chipped ice, pour in one vanilla protein shake, or the powder(UNJURY)is the best, put one Greek vanilla yogurt (light N lively, 80 calories and 12 protein)in the blender as well and fruit that you like. I use 50/50 orange juice which is much less sugar and an orange Greek yogurt. I swear it taste just like an orange cream ice cream. Strawberry and Mango are really good as well. Use your imagination, Try it, you will love it. -
As already stated every surgeon is different. Mine had me on full liquids as soon as I got home on day 3. It was sugar free drinks, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding made with milk & protein powder. Stained soups ( cream of mushroom was my fav) smashed cottage cheese, ricotta, Greek yogurt. Three 4 oz protein shakes a day. A multivitamin, b12, d3, and calcium from citrate. Good luck!

I went to the store and bought somethings to eat: egg beaters, cream Soup, cottage cheese and turkey slices. I know everything needs to be blended and purreed, but I'm scared to get off of liquified yogurt. Congrats on trying soft foods. -
@@nancynew I'm vegetarian, so I don't eat meat, but eat a lot of cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, tofu, veggies, fruit (with protein) - also PB --

@@JustWatchMe - 3am?!? I sure hope you can go to bed early tonight. Hang in there today, I hope the headache stays away. @@2babutterfly - I'm totally jealous you guys are getting away this weekend. Our little one is talking about spending the night with a friend Saturday, so we may get a much-needed date night. All is well here. I've got three days under my belt and my personal challenge of 7 in a row is keeping me on track. My plan for today: B-8 oz shake w/fiber L-greek yogurt w/fiber & 2 tbl granola S-P3 turkey w/almonds D-rosemary lemon chicken S-8 oz shake w/fiber 787c, 89p, 28nc 72 oz Water & 45 minutes of cardio Talk to me about your choice of Protein shake...I'd like to hear what you drink and the nutritional info on it. I currently use Syntrax Matrix Milk Chocolate- 120 calories, 3 carbs (1 Fiber & 2 sugars), 23 Proteins and Syntrax Matrix Mint Cookie - 110 calories, 6 carbs (0 fiber, 2 sugars), 23 proteins. I like that brand because it has no aspertame and I can order it reasonably online. I'm pondering trying the Quest powder. Anybody use it? I'll post later to confirm that I stuck to the plan. Have a wonderful day, my friends. Take care of you.

Were you guess as prepared as u thought u would be?
liannatx replied to jackiemc1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fully prepared and nothing surgery wise or physically has really surprised me. I did however have an irrational full blown panic attack about 2 weeks post op. I was laying in bed almost asleep and was overcome by this feeling/idea that I would never eat real food again, and would be sipping Water and Protein drinks for the rest of my life. I went into a cold sweat, rapid heartbeat, tunnel vision, all out 30 minute anxiety attack LOL! I got up and walked it off, and that has been my only real moment of "WTF did I do to myself"... but it was a doozy. Ironically, I was already eating soups, yogurt, sugar free Jello and pudding at that time.... so it really made no sense. -
Lose the yogurt and the apple sauce. The yogurt being low cal is probably making up for taste through added sugar. The apple sauce, although seemly healthy is another form of sugar. Replace those with more protein or something 100% sugar free and little to no carb. The sodium, even low sodium, in the Progresso soup might cause some water retention. For exercising, carry some weights on the walk. That's my two cents
-
My daily routine is pretty much the same. Egg beater for breakfast with protein shake (costco Premier shake) about an hour later. 100 calorie yogurt and laughing cow cheese at lunch and another protein shake an hour later. 100 calorie progreso soup for dinner and either apple sauce or sf Popsicle or protein drink after dinner. Seriously I eat pretty much the same thing day in, day out. Only difference is I sometimes sub the yogurt for a boiled egg. I feel like I am eating all day!

3 weeks post-op Am I doing this right?
crayon67 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 3 weeks post-op sleeve surgery and am concerned about stretching my "pouch". I know there may be a bit of stretching down the line, I just am so nervous. I did not have any pain at all after surgery, have had energy (not back to work yet though so that may change), and started walking (slowly) on the treadmill 2 days post-op. I have eaten very finely chopped up chicken already as well as eggs, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. I have not had that "full" feeling I have read about but I do know when I am satisfied and stop eating. I have not felt nauseous at all even the evening after the surgery. Are there others out there that have had it "easy" post - op? I have a super supportive family and I'm so excited about this new stage in my life. I just want to do it right.
