Hi - I've only posted a few times, but I thought I'd post because I'm a bit shocked... I have been going thru my 6 mo. PCP visits, and finally finished them last week - got my file to the surgeon's office on Friday, and they said that it would take about 4 weeks to get a response... and that I should plan on a surgery date about 10 weeks out or so. Well, got a call from my insurance today - and they approved me already - not even 48 hours! Yikes! I have no idea what that means for my surgery date!!! I know it is all good, but I wasn't prepared for it to happen so quickly - maybe a sign that it is the right decision!

Liquid diet dreams?
melyssafaye replied to sbdooly73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing very well, thanks. The first couple of days post op really sucked. But it gets so much better every day. By the end of the first week, I felt mostly back to normal. Dealing with the new relationship with food was a bit of a mental struggle in ways I hadn't considered. Everything changes and for me, that was a little challenging. I never had buyers remorse and I would do it again without a second thought. It's truly a process and worth the hard work. The best things I did preop were buy a couple of sippie cups. (I had a hard time sipping not gulping. I would take three gulps and when the third one was in my mouth, the first one would hit my tummy) Gas X strips also were great. Kool aid water enhancer was a life saver. I love cherry and tropical punch. Also, I bought small plastic containers to divide food up. I bought wayyyyyyy too much soup and broth. Post op, a can of cream soup is like four or more meals. Good luck!! It's worth it!!! -
PRE-OP Dieting...Need Advice
RestlessMonkey replied to birdbrainzz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I lost 32 pounds in, um, 37 days, by doing "my" preop diet for 3 weeks (lost 15) and then my surgeons (which I should've done from the start) for another 2 1/2 weeks (17 more pounds). BUT i started very high at 405. Just do what your doc says, not what you read, or think you "should" do, don't cheat, and you'll be fine! -
Band date set for April 22!!!
Jackiepurs31 replied to dminson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so confused about the pre op dieting. Some people have 2 week liquid only diets and some don't. I start my pre op diet 10 days before surgery and it is not a liquid only diet. I am THRILLED about this, but at the same time I wonder why some are and some are not. I am allowed to have fat free ham turkey or chicken, yogart, canned fruit in light syrup, popcicles, protein shakes, broth, crystal light, cottage cheese. I wonder why different places have different pre-op diets for the same surgery??? -
Swimming, Bathing and Mederma

3 weeks out and my dr told me yesterday to enjoy the pool. My incisions have all closed up, so there is no chance of infection -
My surgery was robotically assisted. I was thrilled when I found out - more “arms” able to work, better visibility by the doctor, and let’s face it, human arms are pretty dang fallible. Everything went great - no complications. The first week post-op was rough, but that’s just because it’s major surgery.

I am 2 weeks into the preop diet. My Dr wants us to do Atkins Inductions which is mostly meat and very few veggies and no fruit or starches. So far so good! According to my scale I have lost 10 more pounds but I am gonna wait and see what the Dr scale says on Tues when I have my preops! Good luck to everyone! Becky

For those of you who have had to go on a 2 week or 3 week pre-op diet, how much did you lose? Did you follow it strictly and was your doctor happy with the results?
-
I get about 500 - 600 calories in each day. I am getting in an average of 45ish grams of Protein a day. I just moved to purees, so it should be a little easier now to get it all in. I will try to relax and just let the week go by without freaking out.

Mine seems actually a bit backwards... my insurance company didn't require the Psyc. Evalv., but my DOC did. So, my Psyc. Evalv. is scheduled a week and a half after the insurance has already approved me. Then, they have to get the results back, which can take up to a week, before they will even schedule my surgery. So, we are looking at about a month after insurance has already approved by the time I get a date. It is frustrating, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Should I Start My Pre-OP Diet Early??
RedTulips3 replied to shellbell99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say go for it! The first week is hard because you're weaning yourself off from carbs but by the second week you should be in the swing of things. This way the week before your surgery you won't be so miserable from craving all the carbs. Plus, if you do it for 2 weeks, you'll lose more weight and you'll be closer to your goal! I didn't have a pre-op diet but from the time between my initial consultation/decision to get the band and the date of my surgery was actually 5 months so I used it to my advantage and did Atkins and lost 60lbs! I love how I feel when I get rid of the carbs and I figured the more I lost then, the less I'd have to lose later. It was one of the best decisions! Good luck with your surgery! -
Should I Start My Pre-OP Diet Early??
terrasmom replied to shellbell99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NO, do not start your pre-op diet early!! Just follow your physician's instructions to the letter instead. You will not help yourself by crash dieting before surgery. You further have a week or more after surgery too of just liquids. It will be sufficient to make the pounds fly off quickly. -
The Best Decision I've Ever Made
Madmax68 replied to ITGeekGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@readyforthislifechange Don't worry - when you start to eat solids you will feel the restriction. I thought at the beginning that they made a mistake and left most of my stomach in. Then three weeks later I ate some scrambled eggs and rejoiced! lol I could sure feel the restriction. I love it! -
I didn’t get to the point of needing this surgery by cheating on a diet one time, or eating one piece of candy at a time, or whatever etc. I’m trying to avoid that thinking because for me once leads to twice leads to a week. Everyone has their own stopping points I suppose but it reminds when I quit smoking for good...I never had that one more cigarette. I’m determined to stick to my preop diet to prove to myself that I can and will stick to the post op diet.

Did you keep a "before" outfit?
TonyaA replied to Catherine707's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did not save any of my larger sizes, I needed the room in my closet to put my smaller sizes. I'm only 6 weeks out, but have lost enough to start needing smaller sizes. I have bagged up the larger sizes and will be donating them soon. I found a few pairs of capris that I bought on sale a couple of years ago that I had packed away, but they fit for now. I live in the south, so I have been shopping the clearance racks for some good buys to get me through my current need, knowing that I will be shopping again in the spring for my next smaller sizes. I even bought a few things that were great bargains to pack up for my future use! -
Post op day 3
davidncara@sbcglobal.net replied to kmagno's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have PCOS too. I was sleeved on the 18th as well. My surgery weight was 250. I am still swollen from all the gas. That was my biggest pain. I woke and felt like I couldn't breathe. I have yet to be nauseated, but I keep my nausea cream on me at all times. I started my premier protein yesterday because I couldn't drink my Unjury, I just couldn't drink it... BLAH. But the premier is delish. It's not clear but my dietician said I could start it. I go to dr wed for week 1 post op appt -
OH thats so good to know! I hope I'm average - 1 to 2 pds per week is very fine with me. So what wouldn't a carbonated beverage be? I guess my Bac/Diet Cokes are out - have to find a new favorite drink. :-) Wow - you just had your surgery! How are you doing?

Mayo Clinic-Rochester,MN visit
long2bethin replied to Mary Kelly's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I see this was back in Jan. so I might be to late to be helpful, but I had my surgery done at Mayo a week ago. We actually live here so use Mayo as our primary care. It's a very long process through Mayo, I can tell you that. I don't know how they do it with out of town people but we have to go through a 12 week learn group before they start the pre surgery appointments and there are a few of those you have to complete. If you have any questions still you certainly can message me though, I will try to help if I can. -
I will be banded in a few weeks. I still need my barium swallow which I had to reschedule due to bad weather. Then I can schedule surgery. Yay! I have 2 small children and outside of surgery I am always frightened at the thought of them not having me. I just bought the biggest life insurance policy I could buy and find comfort in knowing that my kids would be in good hands and financially taken care of if something happened to me. I am so sorry your ex has abandoned your relationship. That must be so hard. I can barely raise my kids with my wonderful husband. Hopefully you have a good lawyer. =) You should be happy that you have taken charge of your life and your health. Good luck.

Insurance Authorization

Aww three weeks?!!! We need to be each other's support! It's gonna be tough but so worth it!!!! -
For the first 9 months after surgery my exercise was very basic. I walked 2 times a week, I took stairs instead of escalators. I parked farther away at a store. I tried to add everyday activity and make it part of my life. I did not want to get crazy on any exercise only to get bored of it or pick something too hard or that I did not like. I did not want it to be an obligation to exercise. I lost about 100 lbs in that time but was still over 200. I knew that to get the rest of e way and to ensure I kept muscle mass I would need to start an exercise program. I started to go to the gym. I paid a ton for personal training for 6 months. I started spin class 2 times a week. I now go to gym 4 times a week most of the time and still do 2 days of walking. I take Saturdays off! I did not burn out. I now enjoy he gym. On vacation I went biking every day (for fun!). I went from 50% body fat pre surgery to 36% after losing 100 pounds and now after the gym, it have lost 25 more in 6 months and my body fat is 24%. So in the beginning do Something. Stay active. As you lose you can add more exercise. Make it something you enjoy. Something fun. If you hate exercise now just start by walking a few minutes a day and challenge yourself to add a couple minutes a day. Your body needs to move even a little. It will make you feel great. I promise!
