I like Fiber One (original) mixed into yogurt. It has 17 grams of fiber and 11 grams of carb for 1/2 a cup.

Gastric Sleeve Tomorrow - Nov 11th - Advice?
gwoodgm replied to InterceptorNYC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi InterceptorNYC---initial first days (2-5) post-op my surgeon wanted me to focus on water and then protein. Post-op day 4 his nurse called to check in. I told her I was getting my 64 oz of water in--but not much more than 40 protein. She said to focus on water and if I could get 40 protein and advance it through the next few days not to worry. Keep in mind this is my Doc recommendation....others might be different. I was also taught that protein is a dehydrator like etoh. I wasn't aware of this! Thus the need for water. When Dr. was teaching me pre-op he used the empire state building as an analogy. The antennas at the top are the most important=water, next is the initial tower=protein, next is viewer landing=fiber, (benefiber etc) everything below i.e.: applesauce, yogurt etc etc ="sewer food". lol! It's been a great analogy for me to focus on. Post-op in the hospital I had a bottle of Isopure clear protein drink, it was grape flavored, zero carb. Comes in a clear 20 oz bottle and 40 gm protein. It was something different to mix it up a bit instead of shake after shake. I've also like the powdered Unjury with Fairlife milk. Not too sweet. Sorry to be so long winded! Just sharing whats worked/trial and error. See my surgeon this coming Tuesday and get to move forward in diet. -
I LOVE THIS STUFF., I have never found a protein mix I couldn't taste and now I have, this stuff rocks I added it to my yogurt, drinks and you can't taste a thing I am in love!
-
I like to use it as the base to my smoothies, it mixes better than my powder from Walmart. Tastes good and a blends without grit. Without added fruit or yogurt, e.g. just mixing with water or milk, it needs a little more time to rehydrate. I like the French Vanilla. Chocolate Peanut Butter was ok too but way better if you added a spoonful of PB2.

Gastric Bypass-No Weight Lost
Kaseyn2boys replied to Kaseyn2boys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I will most definitely try that. I was released from the hospital on soft foods so I have scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, canned chicken or tuna, yogurt, things like that and then my protein shakes. I use baritastic to track everything. Calories range from 500-700. Maybe my calorie intake is to high, but its pretty consistent with the paperwork the dietitian gave me. -
Terrible reflux after eating & vomiting
MojoCAMI replied to Shell ????'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Proud2BeMe speaks the truth, Reflux is real, I did not think I would get it, but I did.. I learned the hard way... sometimes you can predict it, other times you can't but you will get better at knowing your body and what combinations or times of day cause it.. My wake up call came, one night when I had a yogurt cup before bed, I ate the yogurt then stayed up for 10-15min, then went to bed.. about 30min later, "hack hack, cough, hack hack, cough belch burp.. hack vomit".. since then when i know I am going to eat something late, I take my reflux pills.. Early on post surgery, I took them because that was what I was told.. I backed off after the frist 40days... and it was about 2months post surgery when the yogurt happened... So now reflux pills are just part of my routine when I know i am going to be eating late, or something spicy for dinner. -
Horrible gastric issues from pre surgery antibiotics
Angel444 replied to Poseyrosey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on antibiotics for H. pylori and my surgery is this Thursday. They made me incredibly sick until my doctor allowed me to take them with yogurt. I haven't had any issues since. Thank god -
Cheating? Already?!
Lesommeil replied to Lesommeil's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys, yeah, I keep seeing food and wanting it, but at the same time, I keep forgetting to drink my actual Protein shakes, which at least lets me know that most of the hunger I'm feeling is in my head. Saw on another board that someone suggested doing milk, unflavoured greek yogurt, and some mio for flavour in place of a Protein shake, and I'm definitely trying that tonight. The slimy fake sweet of every shake I've tried just kills me. -
Food after surgery
Hoginona04 replied to losingsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep reading where 'your taste changes after surgery', well I hope that is true. I am scheduled for surgery on the 4th of June, and nervous about eating again. My issue is, I absolutly hate yogurt, cottage cheese, and cold cheese of any type. And I would rather go hungry than eat chicken. So my mush phase of the post op is going to be rough. On a good note, I love the Protein shakes. I have 5 different flavors from 3 different brands, and enjoy each and every one of them. Hopefully canned tuna and Protein Shakes will tide me over until I can get to the Beef / Fish / Seafood part of the plan. -
If you're ready for scrambled eggs fine, if not, stick to liquids. Like you, I had a very large hiatel hernia. I had to have all of my fluids removed on day 4 too. The swelling went down after that and I was able to move into the food stages. Greek yogurt is a little thick still. Can you thin it?

I'm now on my fourth day post-surgery. I've been trying to get up to my doctor's recommendation of drinking 64 oz.a day; I managed to get to it last night and today at noon, I'm at about 25 oz. The last day or two, I feel like I'm Constanza's mother in Seinfeld, "I'm hungry, George!" But even three teaspoons of Greek yogurt made me have a PB; swallowing liquids makes me feel stuck. I know, I know, drink it slower and I'm still on a learning curve. I can think of mushy things to eat but if I can't handle yogurt, perhaps I'm not ready. Last night I had several moments of feeling stuck. My nutritionist said that I'd be ready for scrambled eggs by the weekend (surgery was on Monday). I don't feel that way. I'm a little afraid to even try. Meanwhile my stomach is gurgling and gurgling. So far today, I've had the liquids (mostly Water and decaffeinated tea), one teaspoon of Greek yogurt and a sugar free Jello. When I had surgery, my band was too tight. So I had my first "unfill" at the hospital where she removed 3 cc. I also had a big hiatal hernia repair and I suspect that's also a reason for my pain. Any ideas? Otherwise, I feel good. I will say that I'm not hungry 24/7 -- just at various times, but oh, it's so intense.

yes... I was swollen for almost 3-4 months. I am 20 months post op and eat quite normal portions. But I was just like you in the beginning! Normal this is what I ate yesterday: 1 large slice of whole grain toast and a half a banana and peanut butter for breakfast. 1 cheese stick and 8 carrot sticks with dip for a snack. 3 oz of tuna salad and 8 crackers for lunch, a 8oz yogurt for a snack. a 6 inch sub from subway with half the bread removed for dinner, and a few chips. and for a late snack I had a 100 cal bag of popcorn. yes the entire bag! Don't worry! It gets better!

Update: day 2 I had the leak test and was in tears by the end because of the feeling of the liquid hitting my new pouch. Since I passed the test, they started me on Clear liquids and took my iv fluids bag off. I've been walking a ton. Mat least 10-15 laps around the floor 7-8 times a day and it usually helps me get out one painful burp of gas. I was supposed to go home tonight but spent the night again because pain is not managed yet. I was started on the liquid hydrocodone which should last 4-6 hours and only lasts me about 1.5 hours. Then they give me diludad which lasts for 2 hours max. So pain seems like it will keep me again coupled with the fact that I'm struggling to drink 1 oz Water per hour. I know this is going to get better daily and even with the pain and discomfort I would do it over no doubt! Did anyone stay more than 2 nights because of pain management? Also, any advice to get over the fear of drinking water/sipping broth/baby nibbling Jello? I have clear liquids again today and am already fearing the yogurt and shakes that come tomorrow. ????????????

Swallowing Pills - any suggestions
Bufflehead replied to Kimbalina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my sleeve surgery on 4/13/16. So I'm almost 2 mo. out. Glad to finally make it to eating almost all foods. Here are some things that have caused slight problems. anyone else experience this. Hard to get these to move through stomach: --swallowing pills (even after cutting in half) --Fiber foods like cereals (raisin bran, Kashi) --whole grain oatmeal --crackers When you say "move through the stomach" what do you mean? Do you throw them up? Do they make you feel sick? How do you know they are "not moving through the stomach"? If you have a serious condition like gastroparesis, you should consult a doctor. Side note, I never touched cereals of any kind, or crackers, or any other thing with grain until I hit my goal weight. That stuff will not help you lose weight IMO. Also my weight loss has slowed. What helps most: exercise drinking lots of Water eating less, and only eating Protein and frozen veg eating NO sweets or Desserts The last two. Exercise is not terribly helpful when it comes to losing weight. As they say, the battle for weight loss is won in the kitchen, not in the gym. http://www.vox.com/2016/4/28/11518804/weight-loss-exercise-myth-burn-calories Focus on eating protein, green veggies, and healthy fats such as small amounts of nuts, olive oil, grass fed butter, etc. High carb foods like fruit and dairy should be in moderation and IMO stay away from sweets, grains, and high carb veggies such as potatoes. I try to eat yogurt with fruit when i want something sweet. Be careful about amounts and types of fruit and yogurt -- stick with Greek yogurt without much added sugar and lower carb fruits like berries and peaches (tropical fruits such as bananas and mangoes have tons of carbs and sugars). Also I have resumed drinking coffee in a.m. but not sure how to do it since you can't eat and drink at same time. So is it best to have a cup of coffee and wait 1 hr before Breakfast. Or to eat something first thing like an egg cooked, then wait an hr before having coffee? My plan doesn't call for waiting an hour before and after food for drinking, only waiting for 30 minutes after food for drinking. I love my coffee too much to wait! If I had to follow your plan, I would drink my coffee first, wait, then eat. But I think whatever works better for you is fine. Good luck! -
sugar free yogurtor high protein sugar full greek yogurt?
Arts137 replied to Heather M's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This might help: http://www.befoodsmart.com/blog/the-best-and-worst-greek-style-yogurts-for-your-health/ I'd avoid seeds while healing (Passion Fruit) or added granola (nut), but the "fruit" is so soft that I consider most varieties pureed anyway... -
sugar free yogurtor high protein sugar full greek yogurt?
PGee replied to Heather M's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sticking with the greek yogurt (per my NUT's instructions) -
I'm day 5 post op, and I really don't think I can tolerate another day of broth or Jello. I got 2 days to go to phase 2- is it horribly bad for me to have a lil bit of yogurt today? I'm starting to get really hungry. Advice please

What do you do to up your protein and calories?
leebick replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd also drop the banana. When I was dieting (South Beach, Atkins, etc) I found that fruit was almost impossible for me. Even low glycemic fruits would stop my weight loss immediately. At 6.5 weeks post-op I couldn't handle grains or veg, or "big" servings, so I was also doing the 2 ounce, frequent meal thing. I still struggle with quantity so often have to choose between protein or veg- and I am 31 weeks (more than 6 months) post-op. If you want to increase your protein consumption, stick to protein foods. Any meat, cheese, fish, eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, etc. I understand why you choose to avoid deli meats; I only use them because they are convenient, and I look for the lowest sodium, least processed options. Usually I cook a small chicken, ham, etc. over the weekend and keep portions of the meat bagged up, ready to grab when I am in a hurry. Regarding peanut butter, I find it helpful to have in the cabinet. I grab a spoonful if I am in a hurry or feeling low. Lots of options, but buying natural pb means I can pour off part of the oil to lower the calories. My daughter has PB with chia and flax in it; I need to find out what the brand is, as it was tasty and filling (1T). I also have the powdered PB2 that I mix with water. It tastes pretty good and has only 1.5g of fat (enough for flavor/satiety but with a minimal calorie hit). I am not sure why people want to "get off" protein shakes- is there too much "crap" in them? I am still drinking my Syntrax Nectar once a day to help with my protein intake. I mix it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk (can't stand skim milk). This stuff is pretty clean- just whey protein isolate, flavor, some lecithin, and sweetener. List of ingredients is FAR shorter than the list on the ready-to-drink products. My Nut is 100% behind me drinking these, to maintain my protein levels. IN fact, she is the one who suggested using this as my mid-morning snack/meal. -
Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids
Lillyanne_M replied to grandmom4x's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 9th and am on a full liquid diet until Jan 23rd. Today I had: 8 oz. Protein shake made with 1% milk (I can drink about 6 oz. at a time slowly - I finished the last 2 ounces about 1/2 hour later) 4 oz. light fat free peach yogurt 4 oz. blended soup Minute Maid Light fruit drink. Usually I eat about 4 oz. of something and feel satisfied. I can't say I feel full - I haven't felt the same kind of fullness as I used to feel before the band - it's different. I ate almost 6 oz. of yogurt the other day and knew after the last bite that I should have stopped one bite earlier. I just felt kind of bad in an undefinable way. So, I just don't try to eat any more than 5 oz of anything other than a clear liquid. -
I was sleeved the 12th too, just started on soft foods and I've made plenty of mistakes! When I make a mistake, it either comes right back up and/or I'm miserable for an hour. Stuff that worked: Tuna salad Quail (make sure it's moist) Cottage cheese and yogurt Sweet potatoes Soft cooked cabbage Soft cooked carrots Seafood (haddock, catfish, shrimp, tilapia, it's all good) Beans, refried, mashed, whole, puréed etc Snow cones with sugar free syrup (a blessing on a hot day) Not so good: Cheesy Soups Melted cheese Soft Cooked spinach Soft Cooked broccoli Mashed white potato Good luck!

3 weeks out and I can't stop eating!
SleevedJune62013 replied to vsginkc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called it my "last meals tour" in May. I tried to fit in all my favorite meals before surgery. I've been off carbs & sugar since June 4th so I find it easier now to use my meals as nutritional intake opportunities. The mini stomach helps of course. Protein first. Lots of liquids, then if I have room left for a craving I get a sugar free snowball or no sugar added frozen yogurt. -
Semi Solid Suggestions

Oh wow mine is totally different but I like yours much better!!! I had 2 weeks of liquid diet...1 before and 1 after and then purée with no meat:( Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App yup...I am loving mine. we did have two weeks of liquid pre-op, but the ability to slowly incorporate food post op has been great. I haven't ventured to chicken yet, but scrambled eggs have sit well. During my one week follow up they mentioned trying chicken thighs highly moistened and shredded/pureed. So that will be my next meat. I am melting inches, but they note it will be 5 to 10 lbs of weight loss per month. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App I tried eggs my first morning for soft foods and they didn't sit to well but will try again with a different version. Good for you though! Thanks the above helps me too. Tried Lamb Burgers with Mint Yogurt sauce yesterday and they were tasty and sat well on stomach...whew!How much did you weigh going in? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App That sounds good, may have to give it a try...My HW was 227, and came home from surgery @217 after gaining from all the drip. At my one week was down to 207, so looking forward to my one month check up to see where I land. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App Here is the recipe and good for you!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I have struggled with trying to find a way to eat greek yogurt. I can not stand the bitter stuff! Finally, today, I had a co-worker tell me to put some Swiss Miss in it. So I grabbed a pack of the sugar-free and dumped some in, stirred and WOW!! What a difference. It is actaually do-able. I am so glad because I wanted to like it. 5 oz has 15g of Protein. Lots of protein for such a little amount of food. YAY!! Kelly

hello everyone... so i'm greek. i thought i'd set up my credentials before i explain why. the only greek yogurt exported from greece, that greeks actually eat and is made in greece by greeks (!) is fage/total. the originally fage total came at 10%. then it appeared on the market at 0%, 2% and ultimately 5%. it is not sour: it should be thick and creamy. if it isn't, it's just a poor imitation. sadly 5% total which is in my humble opinion the absolute top best, is unavailable outside greece. but should you be in this neck of the woods you should try it. the rest though is exported, and lucky for all of us who live abroad (i live in the uk) we can find it in our local market! yay! danone, yoplait etc are all greek style yogurts. these in particular are french. the french like their yogurt thinner and a bit more sour. now it's a taste you might go for, no doubt, but it ain't greek, babes! i definitely use it instead of sour cream (in this case we have the opposite phenomenon: good sour cream tricky to find in greece so you resolve to yogurt). if you cook with it you want to add it in the end, because it shouldn't be overheated: it might "separate" your other ingredients and pretty much destroy the dish. the traditional way to have greek yogurt (as desert) is with a spoonful of honey mixed in. it gets tricky with locating the honey too: greek honey is made from very dry herbs (instead of flowers), so it has a strong and pretty strange flavour. the only one that approximates and i know is exported (decent quality but by no means the best) is called Attiki. (it comes from the region of athens). apart from the sugar which you might not want, it is supposed to be a very good source of vitamins, particularly as pertain to the skin, hair and nails. then again it might be a myth... this is the country after all... but i'm getting carried away... the greek pedant ps. just don't start me on olive oil....
