*** life at 3wks of being banned****
Arria replied to magooz07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with y'all...I was banded three weeks ago, and I've been able to eat way more than I should be. I lost 19 pounds initially, but have gained a few back since the swelling went away. I get my first fill in exactly one week! So excited to start losing again! -
I was banded 10/26. The first 8 or 9 days were wonderful...no hunger but then around the 10th day my hunger returned with a vengence. I can't have a fill for 4 weeks. My Christmas present will be my fill. Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy Thanksgiving.

We're you ever thin before surgery?
JessicaAnn replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been overweight since about 8-9 years old. In 12 grade I started dating this guy that told me how beautiful I was but "would be prettier if I lost a few pounds". That's when the anorexia and binge disorders started. I dropped 60lbs very quick in my first year of college. I was happy with myself. Size 8, maybe 160?. Then he cheated, multiple times. I dumped him and lost more weight. Joined college cheer leading and was loving life. Got drunk at a party and was sexually assaulted by 2 people in the dorms. People thought because I was a "party girl" that I deserved it and somehow wanted it. One of the guys was my roommates boyfriend. I got teased to the point where I dropped out of school. I met my now husband through my best friend. Her husband and my husband are brothers. Got pregnant at 19 and gained 80lbs. Had horrible ppd and never lost the weight. Had problems with my husband and gained about 40more. Got pregnant with baby number 2 and was so sick I gained only 2lbs the whole pregnancy. Again, suffered with ppd and gained 20 more. This made me tip the scales at 299 and only 23 years old Had surgery 7/3/13 Sw-299 Surgery weight-289 Cw-260 -
We're you ever thin before surgery?
KaraBoo replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was chunky in jr. high, slimmed down summer before high school. Maintained a 36-28-36 figure through graduation. Then I got raped and packed on the pounds (subconsciously thinking that would keep me "safe"). Hit 165 (I'm 5'1.5"), then got married at 19 (again thinking i would be "safe") and had 3 kids in rapid succession, never losing baby weight between pregnancies and suffering pretty severe postpartum deppression. I found myself at 25, weighing 250, divorced and going back to school. Now I'm 33, my demons have been slayed, and I'm ready to let go of the last vestiges of the trauma in my life -- all this fat! Hoping for a September surgery date! -
Feeling discouraged after consultation
dylanmiles23 replied to bosscookie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon never questioned me about which surgery to have. He is thrilled with my 60% BMI gone in one year. Do what you feel is right for you not what the doctor wants you to have, Your body, not his/hers. A band can be removed, sleeve-stomach gone forever and by-pass, almost everyone I know has regained after 10 years and blame it on the surgery not their over eating. Also, you need to be comfortable with the doctor you choose. -
It's been 7 days...
Indymom replied to HDubSleevery's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't imagine 10 days of clears! 3 days about did me in. Of course, I'm 2 weeks into my full-liquids month and I'm already gagging on cottage cheese and SF pudding. I'm dreaming of purees and adding in meat/fruit!! -
Some of us are slow losers. I lost almost 15 pounds the first month, but only about 6 pounds per month since then. Remember, this isn't a race. There is no great value or advantage in getting to goal ASAP, because you will never be "done" with WLS the way you might be "done" with a diet. This is the rest of your life now. So you have all the time in the world to get to goal. 10 years from now, when you are maintaining your goal weight and are happy and healthy, do you think it will matter if it took you 6 months or 16 months to reach your goal?

Hey May And Others Sleevers! Help With Question. :)
lml32937 replied to judy7120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If this is all at once yes then I'd be worried but if it is over the course of a day I may not be that worried- He will however the more he heals and the tmore he increases to solid like food have no choice but to slow down- the liquids go down pretty easy for most- he is lucky he doesnt get nauseated or vomit because of eating that fast. If you are monitering his intake that much- is he assuming any responsiblity as well?? You have to remember that each doctor has his/her own post op diet- personally lobster bisk is a very rich soup- at 2 weeks out I could muster about 5 tsp in about 10 minutes- if it continues he may want to talk to the dietician. I personally am addictied to the food network both before and after surgery- I love to cook and I love to learn- I dont know why that would be a problem.... -
Flights from Florida to San Diego
Raheema replied to Raheema's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The fights are rattling my nerves! slicing me open in Mexico no problem but 2 stops and 10-14 hours before arrival! Yikes!😀😎😎 -
I hope to be banded in February. Because of potential fatty liver of his patients, my surgeon requires 10 days of 1000 calorie or less diet then 2 days of a liquid diet prior to the surgery. Although, really I don't think I would mind a longer liquid diet. Many of my so called "successful" weight loss attempts were long term liquid - usually water only - fasts. But then, to no one's surprise the weight all came back on. So, now I am here.

ok, Unjury - only on line. If you order it arrives like the next day, two at most so far for me. I didn't get a catheter, just emptied my bladder before surgery. Yes Heprin shots while in hospital for preventions of blood clots, but not once I left, nurse gave. I did stay over night. Don't hurt at all- super small needle. Some one did post that they had a stomach flu right after banded and wasn't fun. I haven't vomitted yet, since banded on 12/19. Really afaird to to be honest. Hope those answers helped. suzi

Marriage - I Don't Know If...
cbd replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We have a great marriage and I have still heard my husband (who has been very supportive of my decision) make comments like....I hope you won't find someone new after you loose all your weight) This is so UNLIKE him.....I just laugh it of and reassure him. I am four weeks post op and he has actually been dieting along with me so he can get healthier too.....he only needs to loose about 30# and has already lost 10 of it. Sex is easier for me too....thats definately a plus. -
I just came back from a 10 day vacation and you know I splurged. I didn't over eat, but I ate everything that is possibly bad for me. I guess you may call it the "last supper" syndrome. So today I started my first day on the "pre-op" diet. I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner. As a snack I am going to allow myself a cup of Soup (cream of chicken). Technically, my pre-op diet is 14 days long and nothing but Protein shakes, sugar free liquids and no caffeine. So I am sneaking in the cup of soup in there because I need to taste something other than chalky Protein powder & milk. I am going through mix emotions. This morning I was so hungry that I was regretting the pre-op diet and surgery. I was in my "F***it" mood. But I stuck by it and in a very grumpy mood I did my shake. Then for lunch I took an "on the go" shake. I had errands to run and I felt energetic, and light. I felt good. Then when I return home, I know it is dinner time and my boyfriend needs to eat. So we went to do light groceries. You know, it is amazing what you take for granted! I don't eat fruit, I was staring at that banana as if it was talking to me. Then I glanced at the oranges and said to myself, damn that looks good. Then I looked at the hummus. I hated hummus. Well, guess what? I could eat hummus with a shovel right now. Wheat crackers, wheat bread, soup, lean turkey. GOOD GOD, why have I been so bad? Why did I not eat healthier before? So here I am waiting for my boyfriend to pick up his deli sandwich and I am staring at the olive buffet.(different kind of olives, self serve). I tell my boyfriend..."What I would give to suck on a big fat olive!" So not fair. So in the car, as we were going home I was thinking....you know? This sucks. I am basically punshing myself. I have been such a bad girl with my eating habits all this time that now, NOW I am going to punish my body by starving it into protein shakes and cutting up my organ. What kind of Sh**T is that? I pout. (notice the negativity kicking in) I came home and to be honest I have had the runs. First day on pre-op and nothing put protein shakes and I have the runs? Why? Is this normal? Anywho- I come out of the bathroom all grumpy and my boyfriend is scooping chocolate protein powder in a glass and I asked him what was he doing? He said "making you dinner". And he did. I have been drinking it sitting on my computer why he endulges on a deli sandwich in the living room. I cannot sit with him right now. But the shake did take the edge off. Tommorrow is my first day back to work and it is going to be very challenging to say the least. UGH.

Starting soft foods a little earlier

Mar 3 surgery date!

@highsesertmoon, I'm right after you at 10:30;) -
I use the full face mask and I too have had a very dry mouth for several nights. I would wonder if your nose is a bit stuffy from the surgery? I had an NG tube for 24 hours which was not pleasant and left me with very stuffy nose. Using ocean nasal spray and that helped but then I caught a cold almost immediately so that's my story. None the less,, I would look into the nasal stuffiness. And, have you tried side lying in bed with head up on 1-2 pillows? It took me a while to get there but now pretty comfortable. I had surgery 10-27. great job on the weight loss!

Banded 02/12 Seek Friend Same
yellowrose88 replied to nett31601's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 02/03/12. I had a lot of gas pain at the begining and it slowly receeded. Are you getting the grumblies all the time or just around the time you should be eating? I have noticed mine usually starts right before it is time for a meal. I eat only 3 meals a day and it usually is about 10-15 bites which is equvilent to about 1/2-3/4 cup of food. Once I feel the tighting I stop. -
Just had surgery yesterday - Pain, Food, Drinks
BarbaraWM commented on BarbaraWM's blog entry in Big Blog Girl
MOOD: Very positive:smile2: I had LAP-BAND® surgery yesterday, 11/9/09 at Lenox Hill Hospital. I weighed in about 11 lbs less than at my last doctor visit before surgery so I felt good about that. Surgery went smoothly - Dr. Roslin said it took 11 minutes - and I was in recovery before I knew it. The nurses were really great. Cute anesthesiologist too. Dr. Roslin told me he filled my band with 3ccs already. I walked out of the hospital with no problems early in the afternoon. So, what about pain? The pain yesterday was all related to the CO2 used to inflate the abdominal cavity. It felt like someone was pushing my lungs or standing on my chest. After a couple of percocets, it mostly went away. I did not get the shoulder pain that is common with laproscopic surgery and they used a local on the incision sites so nothing there beyond a twinge when the dressing pulled. Today, however, I've got muscle pain in my abdomen, diaphragm and neck and a sore throat and mouth, probably from the breathing tube. I am trying to get by with Aleve but if it doesn't subside I may go fill the percocet prescription. I just ate my first "solid" food since Sunday morning - 2 days ago. I had about 2.5 ounces of fat free greek yogurt with 1/2 packet of Equal mixed in. I served it in a children's bowl and ate it with a small coffee spoon, like the kind you get with espresso. It only took me 10 minutes to eat it and I was trying to go slowly. No pain yet so I guess I did it right. The temptation to drink something while eating is very strong. I think this might be the hardest thing for me when eating, especially since my throat is sore. We'll see. So, day one done. Day two off to a good start. I've got fat free cream of chicken soup lined up for lunch and dinner but I'm just not hungry enough to think about it right now. I'm sure it will be good though. And, my first protein shake is chilling now. -
Hey all, Just wanted to check in and introduce myself. New here. Just had the sleeve done last Friday 10/28, and I am definitely adjusting. Pain was bearable, but honestly the least of my worries looking back. I left the house for the first time in 4 days yesterday and as soon as I started talking to anyone I felt like I was about to burst into tears. I have wanted this surgery for so long and I definitely do not want to go back but at the same time I feel stripped of my comforts and safety nets. It feels as if I'm 18 years old again, living on my own for the first time. Just opening up to my husband created this big knot in my throat like I was holding back tears. I've always struggled with food addiction since I was a young child. When I was 19 I got clean and sober after using and abusing drugs and alcohol and it's been 4 years since. I guess food has been my go-to now that drugs and alcohol are gone. Anybody on here struggle with addiction and recovery? I know I will prevail, one day at a time, but dealing with my own feelings are pretty rough sometimes. I just want to shove my face in a huge chocolate cake and cry while simultaneously eating Ben and jerrys. From what I see on here, it will all be worth it in the long run. I guess I'm just looking for some experience, strength and hope! -Chris Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Birth Control/pregnancy/vaca temptations!
Frankie replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I laughed when I read you were going crazy without a scale while on vacation. I can so relate!! We spent a week at the beach this summer and I was going nuts. I finally made my husband go with me to a Walmart one evening (it was close by but I would never shop at a Walmart!) because I knew they would have some scales and I could weigh myself. I surprised myself and lost weight while we were at the beach. Hope you have a great time! Frankie VSG 3/22/10 -
Hello, I'm new to this forum, I had my sleeve on 22/10/2012 and had a diet program for four weeks, now I'm so lost and don't know what to eat and what not to, started eating raw vegetables two weeks ago.. Can anyone help me with a diet program? Can anyone tell me when should I stop the protein shakes? Is one Centrum pill daily enough? Thank you all

Less than 48 hours to go!
jessicaanders29 replied to eenswm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had my band out in December and getting sleeved on sept 12. I had already gained most of my weight back prior to band being taken out have gained 10-15 lbs since its removal. So, basically starting from scratch! I've wondered about wl with so much time in between. I've heard revisioners often don't lose as quickly as first time wls peeps, but with so much time in between I wonder if that will still be the case?? Good luck!! -

newbeginning77 replied to amacox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow 48 lbs. That is great. I was sleeved may 6 im getting in about 550 calories but that includes my 2 protein shakes a day. My coworkers who have had it done say im not eating enough but I don't feel like I can do more at this time. Im getting really discouraged I am only down 19 lbs since surgery I don't see how I can eat that little and not lose.My nutritionist is on vacation so not sure how much I should be eating at this point.
