    Tiffany's Band to Sleeve Tour

Well, the blood work that the hematologist ordered last week all came back normal except for my bleeding time was greater than 20 minutes. The hematologist is like 98% certain that it is von Willebrand disease which is a relief. I go tomorrow for more blood work to determine which type of von Willebrand. I just got back into town from the stupid business trip. Caysen made the All-Star team for his little league. Last year, this coach's team made it all the way to state, and his son went to the Little League World Series. I was so proud of him, he called me while I was out of town, and I could hear all of his excitement. Tonight, Caysen (he's 10) asked me "mommy, can you die?" I said "well of course I can die, we all can die Caysen." He said " No mommy, I mean with this surgery." He just broke down and started crying. He is so freaked out. I finally calmed his nerves and he has a better understanding of what is going on. I think he just really missed me while I was out of town. It doesn't help that John is gone and he is worried about being left without us. It's just a lot for a 10 year old to comprehend. . . I hope everyone is doing well. I'll be checking in with everyone over the weekend.
  3. I know most of us go through some Protein liquid diet and the length varies. Mine is 2 weeks. I am 4 days into it and haven't strayed. Luckily, I'm okay with the Bariatric Advantage Protein. I'm allowed some chicken broth which has helped the last 2 nights. I still have 10 days to go. I'm sure I can do it, but the weakness and headaches and hunger pains don't make it any easier. Will the hunger start to fade? I wonder if this is harder than those first few weeks post-surgery pain? I'd like to think so, but suspect not. Just hoping for a little encouragement and/or tips for this stage. I've got 10 more days before surgery. Looking back, how was your experience with this challenge?

Pros vs Cons of emptying band

My doc took the fluid out a month before surgery. I delayed the surgery to get ready. I gained 10 lbs but I was eating mostly healthy foods. Chicken, salads & veggies. Stuff I couldnt eat with the band. It was hard to count those 10 lbs as a lose at first since I had just gained them but I gained them so I still had to lose them.
  5. Good luck ag0177! I am 5'10" and started out a bit heavier than you at 348. I lost 16 lbs during the pre-op diet and was 331 at the time of surgery. Today, 10 months later, i weigh 203 and change. I was 51 at the tine of surgery and had back and knee problems, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. As of today, all are gone and at 52 I feel like I am in my best condition ever. I went from a 50 to a 36 waist and 2XL to L in shirts and even an occasional M . I followed my doc's program, got in my Water, Vitamins and 100 gms plus of Protein per day, and my life had changed for the better. I have slacked off on exercising the past few months and my pace of weight loss has dropped, but I am still losing (down to about 5-6 llbs per month the past couple of months). My goal now is to start exercising again to build up muscle and strength. My first two or three months I was at about 800 calories per day, and now am around 1200. When I begin exercising again, I plan on upping my calories a bit because you can stall out of your calories are too low. I wish you all the best in this endeavor!

    Revision time

I was at 150 for about 2-3 years (my lowest point was 138, but it gradually went back up and I settled at 150 for a very long time - which was great because I think 138 was way too low for me. I could see every rib and my face looked awful. 150 was actually the perfect weight for me). But last fall I was abroad for the whole month of October, and then came back in time for the holidays. By the first of January, I was at 160. And freaked. I've been really working at getting that off because I want to be back down to 150, but it is S-L-O-W going - about 1-2 lbs a month. But since I am, according to the BMI chart, 3 to 4 lbs "overweight" (depending on the day), I wasn't too surprised by that. So hopefully by July or so I'll be back to where I want to be. a word to the wise - once you get to where you want to be, do whatever you can to avoid gaining weight. It is a b*tch to take off, even if it's just 5 or 10 lbs! (I used to roll my eyes at these normal weight or slightly overweight women who would complain about how hard it was to lose five lbs. HA! I could have done that in a weekend! But now I get it...)

    Liquid diet time

The clear liquid diet is much harder that the full liquids in my opinion. I am on day two of clear liquids and I feel like I am starving. I did not feel this way on 10 days of full liquids. I did lose 8# in the past 11 days though. Well, tomorrow is the surgery so hopefully drugs will prevent me from feeling hungry.
  8. I was sleeved 5/9/11 and as of today have lost 98 pounds including my 2 week pre-op. I am thrilled! To give a frame of reference- I started at 280 and am 182. I am kicking butt right now to get to my 100 lost- added two zumba classes and two more pool classes so I am now at the gym 10 hours a week and walking 3 miles a day.
  9. My goal is to hit 150 pounds, which means I need to lose a total of 184 pounds. My weigh in day is this Saturday - I will be at 11 months!! Below are my stats for the past 10 months
  10. Great job on your weight loss!! I am 10 months out and am down 109 lbs. This surgery has been such a blessing. I can't remember the last time I wore a size 10. I honestly think it was in 6th grade. Keep up all the hard work!!

    Pre-Op Diet

Hi everyone, My surgery date is 10/4 and I'll need to start my pre-op diet on 9/20. My surgeon wants me to do a low carb diet (under 40g per day). What is everyone else needing to do? Is anyone else nervous about this? I've never done a low carb diet (did WW back in the day...never Atkins)... I've researched and know what I need to do, but I'm nervous that I won't lose the weight or shrink my liver as much as they want. If I follow the surgeon's instructions I should be fine right?

    Check-list post-op

lab-band shopping list heating pad flexible ice pack liquid tylenol (they make adult strength) chewable or liquid gas-x a few books or movies comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers) squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt) a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days) protien shakes flavored water make sure you have a good blender I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart) broth or stuff to make broth sugarfree popsicles and jello sugar free gum (ask your doctor) sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor) *Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so you can have it all ready to go when you get home, our walgreens has to order liquid pain meds and it takes 3 days to get them.
  16. Well I had got the lap band 10/24/10. My biggest weight was 285 pounds. I lost weight throughout having my bad but at a very slow process. Throughout the years I regret getting the lap band. This year in March I was diagnosed with diabetes and my hypertension returned. My doctor and I decided to remove the band and go for a the sleeve. April 30, 2013 I was 202.8 lbs when I had my procedure done. It's now been six days and I just had my post op appointment. Since the surgery this is no sign of the diabetes and I am now 194 lbs. I'm happy with my choice so far. The recovery is so much better than getting the band. This is a long journey to a healthier new life and a new me. I have not been under 200 pounds since I had my 3rd child. This is a blessing. I struggled a little with the liquids and taking in my protein but I will get better. I even got thrush. These are just little bumps and I will keep you posted with my updates.

    Kaiser Question

I had surgery at West LA. Did you go to Options already? If you have been to Options already. Then at the Surgeon appointment. He/She will see if you have reached the 10% goal or are very close to it, if you are then they will set up a surgery date. Kaiser has approved as long as the surgeon says it a go! They usually will have the surgical coordinator call you to set up a surgical date and pre surgery appointment. On the pre surgery appointment you follow up with the surgeon once more, draw labs (if need be), see anesthesia, fill out paper work, apply for short term disability (if you plan to be off work). They are pretty good.

    cereal???

I have just recently found the Special K Protein Plus cereal and LOVE it!! I was getting so sick of eating eggs from breakfast and needed a break so I bought the cereal! To me it tastes like Raisin bran without the sugary raisins!! I eat either the serviing of 3/4 cup or a full cup depending on how much time I have that morning! LOL I haven't been eating cereal up until now and I'm 10 months post-op but I NEEDED a change!
  19. Hi: I was banded on 1/5/10 and have had 3 small fills since then. I am not sure if I need another one or not (I have an appt. on Thursday). I do notice in the morning that it takes a little longer to drink a glass of water- although I have never had a problem drinking. I usually eat slowly and chew well- but never seem to feel full. I have never had anything stuck (don't want the experience either!) I am now at 6.2 cc. in a 10 cc. band. I know that everybody is different but am not sure what is 'normal'. I am not losing weight- but not gaining either. Just afraid of being too tight. Since I've never experienced the 'sweet spot' that everybody talks about I am afraid of missing it and then having problems with being too tight. Any body else experience this? Or have any suggestions? Thanks. I am not even sure if I should get a fill or if I do how much they will put in or should put in...Maybe I am overthinking this? Thanks, Sue

    Special treats

I descoverd a perfect treat when you crave ice cream. Buy fat and sugar free yogurt. Plan and un flavored. Pop a cup in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes. Then add a few drops of liquid water flavor enhancer. Like mio. Give it a try.

    Feeling discouraged...

It does get better. I literally set my phone for 10 minutes. Every 10 I sip a shot glass of water or protein drink. I do this for 10 hours a day. It seemed kind of tedious at first but I am feeling better. SF Popsicles , SF Jello and broth have been good options too. I am still more fatigued than I expected 1week out. I gonna take a walk outside today. My doc gave me Lorazapam for anxiety/pain management. I have taken a few times when I get frustrated/anxious. I haven't needed anything stronger for pain.Hope you feel better soon!
  23. Hello All So I am on a weight loss plateau and have been for like 3 months. I had my sleeve last September and I am at 10 months out right now. I can only drink about 32 oz of Water and then my Protein shake 11 oz Ill have a Gatorade G2, diet Snapple also or a V8 they say that all counts as fluids. I eat chicken and veggies, Salmon and veggies, turkey and lean burgers. I can eat 1/2 cup depending on the food maybe a little more or less depending. I always eat my protein 1st. I have ate sweets and carbs but not everyday or a lot at all.. If I crave it I'll have a little to curve it I don't go over board. They say by 1yr I should be eating 1cup but in 2 month it will be my year and I am still at 1/2. other foods I eat, refried Beans with cheese sour cream, cheese sticks etc, I cook with olive oil, I eat during the week at 5am, 8am, 12pm, 3pm, and 6pm( not all the time only if I am really hungry), weekends I am not as good with times.. I wake up later and also stay up later. I exercise 2 times a week. I was 240 last February Day of surgery I was 221 I am now 152 my goal is 135 I also was wondering that maybe the extra skin I have( not a lot but enough) may be 10lbs? if so then I would be 142 so that would make me close to my goal. with that said maybe that's why I have been stuck at this weight. Please not negative comments Thanks a lot

Day 4 of liquid pre op diet

I'm so thankful my surgeon only requires a two week pre-op diet of sugar free, low carb/high Protein foods. This diet will also shrink your liver. However he is strict with his post-op diet, as we are required to stay on clear liquid for 10 days then advance to full liquids for 10 days & after that its 10 days of puréed food. I know others sleeved patient who are cleared to start eating soft foods just one week post-op. The diets really seems to very with each surgeon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New lingerie.......

Yea! I got a new bra too recently and its the bra I always dreamed of. The old gals look 10 years perkier I haven't shopped in a brick and mortar store for years. I figured if I could fit in it that was good enough and putting on makeup felt like decorating a gourd. Now that I've dropped some weight I find I do care about fit and color and makeup etc so i went out shopping last weekend. And it was a blast!. Enjoy your new attire!
