4 week post op stall? cant be happening!
Kindle replied to lcoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 22 pounds 2 weeks preop and 17 in 7 weeks post op. It's normal. A "3week stall" is normal. Losing every single day is not normal. Losing 10 pounds/week is not normal. You are doing fine. Just keep getting your fluids and Protein and exercise and you will lose. It took years to put on weight, and you certainly won't lose it all in a few weeks. This is a lifelong process, it won't happen overnight and you shouldn't stress over. -
2nd day post op swollen stomach
Kathleen Clary replied to lejlavj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
walk, walk, walk. It's probably gas. For the first week post op, I had quite a swollen tummy. I let out so much gas when i would walk. Make sure you get at least 20-30 minutes of walking in during the day. I did it in 10 minute intervals every hour or so. Good Luck -
How did you get started?
BLERDgirl replied to tel80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I knew my insurance was accepted at the major hospitals. I investigated 2 in my area. I went to one and talked to the surgeon. I wasn't impressed. I then happen to run into a friend who had gotten bypass and asked who her surgeon was. I had to attend a seminar before I was allowed to even schedule an appointment but once I did I knew he was the one. I don't think I even told my primary until after they received a copy of my insurance approval letter about three quarters of the way through my pre-op testing.I wasn't worried as I knew she would be supportive and she has been. The seminars are a great way to see if this is an option for you. It will also help you to decide which type of WLS is best for you. I attended the seminar at the end of April, had my first surgical appointment in May and had surgery in September. It would have been August, but I had to take a month off for family vacation. The process can take anywhere from 3months to 12months depending on the program requirements and protocols for pre-op testing. -

I don't know the root cause of why my legs are so sore. I walk my 15-20 minutes a day (slow pace) (sometimes more). Over the course of the last week though my legs feel like they have been running in a marathon and I really have to be careful going up stairs getting in and out my car etc. I drink about 2 16 oz bottles of Poland Spring Water plus a 12 oz Diet Snapple throughout the Day, plus a small cup of coffee. Am I getting enough fluids? It takes me so damn long to drink a bottle of water now. I see my surgeon Thursday for my one month follow up. I've been going weekly since my surgery date. (6/27). Confirmed my Sleeve date today, and had my pre-op tests. Now we start the liquid diet - day 1 wasn't too bad. Slightly nervous over this huge change, but ready to move forward. Any advice on getting ready for this journey, and getting through this liquid diet? This will make my scheduled vacation in 3 weeks rather interesting.

2 weeks since surgery and not hungry
ashemademe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone, I had my surgery 11/10 and right now I am on mushy food. In the mornings I have a Protein shake, snack Greek yogurt and lunch tuna and Soup. Some nights I have a little baked fish. But honestly I don't think about food at all. My doctor wants me to have my first fill on 12/5 and I am scared of the tightness. Do you think I show postpone it until I start feeling hungry? -
Well, I've Finally Finished With All My Pre-ops And I Finally Got A Date For My Surgery (9-19-05). Now The Wait Is On My Insurance Approval, Hopefully I Won't Be Denied. I'd Hate To Have To Wait Any Longer For This Surgery Cause I Am So Anxious To Have It Done And Be Part Of Lapband Gang. Does Anyone Have Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield? If So, Please Let Me Know If They Are Easy To Approve For Lap Band Surgery. My Surgeon, Dr. Chaudry, Says He Believes It Won't Be A Problem With Insurance And That I Should Have A Reply Within A Week From Them, But Just The Waiting Is So Stressful. Anyway, If Anyone Has Any Feedback On Empire B/c B/s, Please Advise Me. Thanks

I just reread this and between your good point about it still being numb and the fact that I left half of one egg when not so long ago I would eat a three egg omelet, bacon, hash brown and 2 pieces toast and not always be done shows me I am crazy and doing fine. Lol. -
Calling seasoned sleevess - Im fre- c
capeciw posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im hoping some seasoned sleevers can help me. I feel badly posting this when I read some of the difficulties people are having. I'm a little over a week post op- started purée today and am having no issues. With anything. I can see where getting your fluids in can be tough in the beginning balancing food and hydration, but I ate just about a little less than measured for each: 1/4 cup egg at Breakfast, 1/4 cup refried Beans at lunch and 1/4 cup Greek yogurt and chicken purée. I still have to have one Protein shake. I didn't feel too uncomfortable, it didn't hurt and then I worried that my sleeve isn't working. I know this is dumb because I shouldn't have to have issues ( and don't want them!!) and know that I'm still so early on--- what do I know!? I'm most terrified that it is not working and I won't lose. I am trying to really watch my sugars and carbs and only incorporate them where I really want (said refried beans). Has anyone further along and successful felt like this? My calorie count today after my last Protein Shake will be about 550. All last week on liquids I was around 300. Now I know this is ridiculous because no one is going to gain weight with that count!! -

Really struggling to focus on myself and my young family (4 year old and 1 year old), teacher FT, and keep up with life in general 3 weeks post op. I just can't figure out where and how to schedule my drinks, eating, prescriptions, and Vitamins in my day. Something is always forgotten. I'm having a hard time deciphering whether I'm always tired or just so overwhelmed. Oh, and my dog now has diabetes and needs two shots a day. Oy vey. -
I was banded in April and at the time my son was 3. I was told not to pick up anything heavier than a gallon of milk for about 6 weeks after surgery. Immediately after surgery that was easy as my belly was beyond sore, but as I healed it became harder to not pick him up--especially when he was tired, cranky, or just in need of a hug. I showed him my belly and told him that it was very sore...he would climb on my lap and pat my belly and then lay against me so very gently...while asking..."does your belly hurt?". The post-op restriction doesn't last forever and before long you'll be back to holding/picking up your little ones. During this time take it easy and just relax. Your belly needs to heal. Good luck to you.

Week 3 a bust? What the heck is going on?
pinkie1 replied to nuzzlebear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't lose anything for two weeks post up, I was doing everything right and could not figure it out. Then I had a thought when I first got home I was on a clear broth diet and I lost weight the day I went on shakes and pureed diet I stalled. so I thought I will do the broth thing and you know what, in 5 days I lost 11 pounds. As I am a diabetic, all carbs and little sugar I was putting in my mouth with the shakes was putting my weight loss in jeopardy. so I am sticking to broth and seafood high in Protein and I feel great. -
Tingling and slight numbness at port site?
DarleneRN replied to Lorelei's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will have had my band 2 weeks this monday,,,,yay puree! can't wait! lol...I had pain, pulling, tightness, tingling, and numbess at my port site. It gets a little better everyday. I was so concerned, it seemed everyone on here felt 'great' after 2 to 5 days...I was panicked too! My Dr said some people heal slower than others. For some reason, the last 2 days (still same symptoms, but much less) I am feeling MUCH better. Anyway, sounds normal, don't panic, and good luck!!! -
I am 5 weeks out today and thought I was doing pretty well. Nothing I have eaten has really caused me problems. My problem is making sure I get enough calories, specifically Protein into my diet. This weekend I had a couple days where I felt really nauseous......day and night. No new foods added; couldn't figure out what the problem was. After much back-tracking I realized that I had not eaten much those two days, and NOT eaten enough protein. The next day, I made sure I ate enough protein, and ate more frequently. Ta-da...no nausea! OK....lesson learned. I HAVE to eat...and that's a new one for me .

Today I Learned.......
AllForMy4 replied to retired-loser's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 5 weeks out and deal with the same thing. Although I am doing good lately about getting in my protein,it all comes from shakes mostly. I eat maybe 2 ozs of food on a good day. I really hope I can start eating more soon bc I know I am not getting close to the recommended amount of calories in that I should be daily and it is giving me a slow(but steady) weight loss. I think I would be losing more if I could up my calories a bit and get my body out of starvation mode. lol. -
Realistic Monthly Goals For The First 6 Months
@DomLorenVSG replied to Ready4success's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I'm breaking it down by week, my minimum goal is -2 lbs a week, my optimal goal is -3.5 lbs a week. If on average there are 4 weeks in a month thats a range of -8 to -14 lbs a month. So I don't think you are that far off at all. -
Failing...by the book.
FLHgal replied to CoffeeGrinDR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slow down; take a deep breath. Each and everyone of us is different. You hear about those who lose 15-20 on the 2 week liquid....I didn't. You are in recovery and if you are doing it right.....the weight will fall off. I lost my 100 at around 13-14 months....Maybe 20 in the first 2 months including the liquid pre op. Stop worrying that there will be nothing to eat at the party, enjoy the company and approved drinks. Good Luck, -
5 Months Out- Hair Loss...check, Weight Loss...negative
peacequeen replied to slimshadee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no suggestion for the hair loss..I've been losing mine since 3 months out. But if you are stalling that long, I'd try shaking things up a bit. Change your caloric intake or Lilmissdiva's bootcamp might be a good place to start,,it's worth a try. Cutting carbs helped me shed 6 pounds in 1 week and I always felt full. Slowly adding back healthy carbs this week and the weightloss slowed down but I'm still losing. Logging what you eat in a journal or at myfitnesspal.com helps you see exactly what you are taking in. Increase exercise might be another avenue you can take. I'm so sorry things aren't working out for you this far out. -
Belly/tummy band and medication questions
Chris R replied to Zen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't use any belly bands, though I think it might have helped a little with some of the pulling sensation inside on one of my incisions from the stitches. The meds I took pre-op were all things I'd been taking for diabetes, blood pressure, and arthritis. I didn't have to take anything special before the surgery. The meds my surgeon prescribed for me post-op were a liquid antacid (Ranitidine) and a liquid pain killer (Roxicet). The Pepcid is an antacid - what I have the Ranitidine for. He said I have to take the antacid for one month - I can't wait to be off of it, because it tastes NASTY! The pain killer I'm using more for my severely arthritic knees, at least until it runs out. I used to be on meloxicam for it, but my surgeon said I shouldn't take it after surgery, at least for several months (Nsaid), and the Tramadol my regular doctor prescribed to use in place of it wasn't doing the job. My surgeon told me not to start my multi-Vitamin (chewable) until Monday (2 weeks post-op). It contains calcium citrate too - hopefully enough that, with diet, I shouldn't need an additional supplement. (I got the Bariatric Advantage fusion - the dietitian told me to take 3 a day with the sleeve surgery.) I also take Cymbalta for my arthritis pain. I know that it is also used as an antidepressant for some people. Although the instructions with the meds said do NOT crush or open the capsules, my surgeon told me that many of their patients have without a problem, so I open the capsule and mix the contents with a small spoonful of sugar-free, fat-free pudding. Sugar-free Jello works OK before you get to the full liquid phase. Hope this helps! -
