    Frusturated

This can be very simple for you. The key is in getting your Water, it flushes. Next eat the food you family does, when you can, but smaller portions. Stay away from the sweet stuff, even tea and coffee, I lived on chicken, tuna, deli meat and cheese, Veggie of choice was broccoli quick simple and preped in small amounts, Mornings I'm tight and have a slimfast shake or Protein. With thees I can add some fruit or yogurt. If you can eat the guideline amounts the food bill goes down just like the scale. I am lucky because I can eat most everything, so I have to get back to watching my portions. I am limited with income as well, but there are things we will usually have for the family eggs,,good source of protein. My pride in joy is my George Forman Grill, tomato sauce, garlic and onions, shrimp, chicken and stir fry meat are the weekly fair at my house.

    I'm Home:)

THanks! I feel like i tough it out cuz I dont feel so much pain. Sometimes cramping. BUt thanks for the advice> i didnt realize it could push back my heeling time. What stage are you on for you post op diet? I have me post op tommorow and will be able to start on my full liquids for 3 days then my pureed! ( Protein shakes, cream of wheat, yogurt!)
  3. I never really had restrictions on water. I started slow, and when I rushed drinking I could feel it start to back up in the throat, so I'd just let it slide down. Now, coming up on 4 weeks post up, I don't have that feeling anymore. Eating things like pudding, yogurt, and such don't bother me as long as I take it slow. Beef has been the only thing that causes an issue, it just seems to take forever to go down and get through, so I've laid off beef for a while longer. If you're getting your calories, and your nutritionist has allowed what you're eating, just keep doing what you're doing. Have patience and just relax while eating. That's been the hardest part for me. My entire life, I grew up in a military family, we ate, put our dishes away and went back to work on the land. We rarely ever got to just sit and relax while eating.
  4. PS--this is pretty similar to what I ate at your stage. I also did some mushies like refried beans with cheese and added unflavored protein powder to soups (cooled down a bit to avoid clumping), sugar-free hot chocolate, or Greek yogurt (more palatable to add half a scoop to that much Greek yogurt). You could try ricotta cheese too and I did vegetarian meatballs by Morningstar mushed up in the ricotta with a little marinara. At 3-4 weeks I could only eat 2 to 2.5 meatballs and now I can eat 4 or 5. Your stomach is still very swollen. I didn't feel like mine was normal (new normal) until about 4 months out.

    2 WEEK UPDATE

TODAY IS EXACTLY 2 WEEKS AFTER MY SURGERY. MY DOCTOR STARTED ME ON MY VITAMINS & PRILOSEC AND STILL HAS ME ON A FULL LIQUID DIET ( MEANING JUST YOGURT, BROTHS, CREAM OF CHICKEN SOUP (STRAINED) CREAM OF MUSHROOM (STRAINED), CREAM OF CELERY (STRAINED), PROTEIN SHAKES, SUGAR FREE JELLO, SUGAR FREE POPSICLES, SUGAR FREE PUDDING) I DISLIKE THE LIQUID DIET!! I'M SO GROSSED OUT BY EVERYTHING NOW. I NEED TO FIND DIFFERENT SOUPS TO HAVE, BECAUSE ALL THIS SWEET STUFF ( JELLO, POPSICLES, PUDDING, YOGURT, PROTEIN SHAKES) IS ALREADY MAKING ME SICK I CAN'T WAIT TO START THE PUREE STEP. I DO FEEL LIKE I'M STARTING TO HAVE MORE ENERGY THOUGH. THE FIRST WEEK I FELT KIND OF WEAK. THE TAPE ON MY INCISSIONS ARE BARELY STARTING TO FALL OFF ( THEY TOLD ME NOT TO TAKE THEM OFF, THAT THEY NEED TO FALL OFF ON THEIR OWN). THIS WEEK I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY MOVE BACK INTO MY ROOM ( I WAS SLEEPING ON THE COUCH, IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER THEN MY BED). I STILL SLEEP ON MY SIDE, WHICH IS TOURTURE BECAUSE I'M A STOMACH SLEEPER & CAN'T MOVE TOO MUCH ON THE BED. I'VE ALREADY LOST 26LBS AND 2 PANT SIZES. I'M BARELY NOW STARTING TO NOTICE IT ON MY FACE AND MY WAIST. I WISH I WOULD'VE MEASURED MY WAIST BEFORE. ANY WHO, I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET MY GOAL WEIGHT! I WILL POST NEXT WEEK
  6. Yum! It tastes fantastic! I have tried the raspberry, peach and strawberry banana so far. I can't stand any of the greek yogurts as they all taste too sour. This feels like a desert to me instead of yet another source of Protein. Thanks to whoever I saw mention it earlier in the week. _/\_ 6 ounces 60 calories 1.5g fat 3g sugar 8g protein

    how much can you eat?

I am 19 weeks out and can just now eat 4-6 oz of yogurt with a little granola in it for crunch. Lunch today, half a hamburger patty and 1 1/2 ish cups salad loaded with cheese, eggs, lite dressing. Dinner last night, half a piece of fish and a few pieces grilled tomato. Breakfast today, one scrambled egg with turkey sausage and grated cheese in it. Hope that helps. I know at first I could not finish a whole container of yogurt or pudding.

    Medication

You may want to ask for the liquid version at first. I tried crushing my meds and taking them with yogurt, water, anything really, and I just couldn't get them down. The taste/texture was awful and I would just gag. Finally at 2 months out I can tolerate my meds split in half, but they do still get stuck sometimes.

    banded 1/28 and question's

I was able to go on full liquids the day I came home from the hospital (the day after surgery) which included yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese, and scrambled eggs. I just took it really slow and made sure that I chewed it (even the yogurt) I did fine and was eating regular foods 1 week post op (with the Dr.'s ok). I haven't had any trouble since and had my first fill today so I am on liquids today, soft foods tomorrow and regular food on Saturday. I would check with your doctor, though, for what he recommends. I know that compared to a lot of post op diets mine is pretty relaxed!

I'm Scared of My Pre-Op Diet

Ok so most doctors recommend 60-90 grams of protein. Your shake had better have at least 30 gr. and you'll be eating alot of yogurt (dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt /x the protein) or you could do one ISOPURE clear liquid protein -40 grams of pro per bottle. It's filling satisfying and you'd have your recommended protein to keep u healthy strong and within your doctors guidelines. U wouldn't even have to do much yogurt if any, if u drink an ISOPURE. Tastes kinda like Gatorade. Available at GNC or online at ISOPURE or GNC. I personally would limit the fruit juice, the calories add up fast unless u do V8. Splash lite which is 1/2 the cals of reg juice. When do u start your pre op diet? I'm halfway thru mine.

    banded 1/28 and question's

I would ask my doctors office for a guideline to follow. Weight loss after surgery is hit or miss because this time is for healing. You also retain a fair bit of Water from the surgery. I would follow the guidelines given by your doctor because its odd that you are 3 days out from surgery and looking for yogurt already. Mostly everyone is on Clear Liquids and other liquids for the first one or two weeks after surgery.
  12. I ate buffalo chicken dip, ricotta bake, pimento cheese and yogurt. Google for recipes. Everything was already soft, so I didn't puree. I just chewed, and chewed. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Miss

Oh, I don't know if there is anything there worth driving 21 miles for. I buy, the above mentioned soup, boxed lentil soup, chicken and beef broth, ff greek yogurt, canned chicken (when I was in the soft food stage), various condiments like whole grain mustard, fish sauce, olive oil, vinegars, hot sauces, marinara sauce (good and super low cal), turkey meatballs, lunch meat, various cheeses (so good!), various "burgers", like mahi , lime chili chicken and masala, soy ginger cod, Kettle Cooked Chicken Soup (refrigerated section), produce like romaine lettuce, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, zucchini, nuts (like flavored pistachios), cheap but decent wine (for guest I like, not love, lol), spiralized carrots (frozen), frozen gyoza (when I get an asian craving), Green Goddess Salad dressing (refrigerated), chicken sausage. I'm sure tons of other stuff I can't think of right now. They are actually really good at less healthy food too, for your family. Their Mandarin Orange Chicken is better than any restaurant I've tried, for instance. In general their products are very high quality for a very good price, while having a lot of interesting and ethnic options.

    Tired of Protein Shakes

I purchased the unflavored Protein to mix with regular drinks and it just makes the consitency weird and I mixed it with yogurt and cottage cheese - same thing. Protein shakes are getting old. What has everyone else been doing besides shakes?
  15. Kaffeine67

Tell me your pre op diet!

I'm on day five of my pre-op. Every day has consisted of three protein shake and up to six of the following: 1/2 cup cottage cheese (with Franks red hot sauce), 1/2 cup smooth fat free yogurt, no sugar added applesauce with cinnamon, a low fat cheese stick, sugar free pudding, and 1/2 c cream of wheat with splenda. Broth, coffee, tea, sugar free jello and popcicles are freebies! The shakes are the most crucial!
  16. I'm 3 weeks out and I can eat a 5oz yogurt with no problems or feelings of restriction in about 30-40 minutes. Usually when I feel what I think is faint hunger (it doesn't feel like the old hunger), I can just drink some gatorade or water or something and the feeling goes away. If I drink and I feel it again a short time later, I assume that it must be time to eat something. I eat on a very loose schedule. My body always seems to want to be fed at around the same times. The only time that changes is if I slack off on my fluids.

Can't get enough calories to exercise...

I do think the sooner you can move to real food for your Protein sources, the better you'll feel. Protein derived almost exclusively from those shakes just isn't as good as the nutrients you can get from food. I think you might be expecting too much of yourself; you've just had the surgery this month. You've had a remarkable amount of weight loss, and it is awesome that you want to get your energy back RIGHT NOW so you can exercise, but this was major surgery and your stomach is still very, very raw and swollen (will be for months) so please don't push too hard trying to do things your body isn't ready for, or get discouraged that it isn't happening the way you want. Be patient with yourself. You had a long hard journey to get to the point where you had the surgery, and it won't be resolved overnight (or in a few months). Maybe start trying to add in fruit/protein smoothies (have a blender?) try using yogurt, almond milk, ice, real fruit - things like bananas and avacado (for the healthy fat and calories) and sip on those when you can. You'll get some protein, calories and fats to help up your calorie intake and still should be gentle on your stomach/digestion. Scrambled eggs with a bit of cheddar cheese was a good soft food for protein/calories in the beginning (once I could eat solids). It didn't agree with me for the first couple of months, tho (threw up that and chicken until around 3 months out). Refried Beans (especially black beans) with a bit of cheese on top also really good for calories/energy.
  20. The day I got home from the hospital, I had two Premier Protein shakes. The next day, I had 2 protein shakes, 16oz of bone broth sipped over a very long period of time, and 2 Tbsp apple sauce. On day 3, I managed to eat 1/4 c of very thin Cream of Wheat made with high protein milk along with the 2 shakes. On day 4, I had 2 shakes and one 5oz cup of Greek yogurt. Even 4 weeks out, 1/2 cup of anything but soup in one sitting would be a challenge. But the only thing my doctor's office really cared about the first several days was fluids.

Can't get enough calories to exercise...

I would add more Protein rich items to the Protein Shakes. I always try to bookend my workouts with good carbs and protein. Someone mentioned a few things like adding avocado to your Protein Drink. In addition to that I also add Fage 0% greek yogurt, nut butter and spinach or spinach/kale puree to my protein drinks. I make the spinach or spinach/kale puree by blending it in the vitamix with just enough Water to liquefy and freezing into ice trays. I then add one cube to each drink. I make my protein drinks using water and then pack loads of ice on them. I drink half pre-work out and the other after post workout. This fuels my workout so I am burning fat and keeps my energy up. The additives also keep my calories at a good level and using water & ice counts toward my Fluid goals. That said, give your body time to heal. Your energy will return. Then strive to get some sort of exercise in everyday. Don't get overly focused on calories. I ate 400 calories for the first 2 weeks post op. Then ate 400 - 600 until 3mths post op. From 3 - 9 months I ate between 600 - 800 and currently eat between 800 - 1000. The new tummy is tiny. It can't hold much. As long as that protein level is good you should be okay.

    Scared to eat different foods

@@rydersmama I understand where you are coming from. You should fill in your surgery information so people can easily see where you are at. At 7 weeks, I wouldn't add stuff if you don't have to. I stuck with Protein and veggies until about 3 months, I suggest waiting that long, just because at 3 months you are more healed and when you add new things you might tolerate them better. There is no reason to snack on snack things. My afternoon "snack" is a turkey burger. I have 4 meals a day, all planned, all 20-30 protein to meet my protein goals. Just because you have a snack it doesn't have to be snacky. A Protein shake will do, or a Protein Bar, grilled chicken cut into strips etc. That early out I wouldn't have a protein bar though. If you decide to add some look for this brand http://www.amazon.com/ISS-One-Lemon-Cake-12/dp/B00Y7YO59W/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1457569618&sr=8-5&keywords=ohyeah+one+protein+bars these are the best protein bars I have ever had in my life. They don't even taste like protein bars. I skipped yogurt too. I didn't like it that much before surgery and after surgery I absolutely hate it. It is nasty and the nutrition on most of it just isn't worth it. I keep nuts in my purse as an emergency but I have yet to have any nuts since surgery. Later on though, you might need more variety. I have added a lot more variety to my diet because I find it is the best combat for head hunger. I find lots of substitutions for my favorites also. This is a lifestyle, not a diet, you have to work it in a way you can live with it long term. At 7 weeks you are still healing and probably still swollen, as you heal and things loosen up and you are more comfortable with food, your attitude might change. If you don't want to add things, don't, add them when ready.

    2 weeks Post op

I made lots of eggs, chicken in a can, oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, soup. I also made fish and used the Atkins bake mix to make low carb no sugar pancakes with sugar free syrup... I would search online for recipes

    No Weight Loss?

are you sure that it's not the yogurt keeping you from losing weight? I dieted most of my life and know that my sensitive system simply refuses to release any weight as long as I consume dairy products, nuts, beans, cheese, peas, or even citrus fruits. I, like you, also tried the Greek yogurt but didn't lose any weight on the days that I did. Do you have sensitive skin? I ask because I'm wondering if your system is as sensitive as mine.

I feel like such a failure!

My darling, I understand EXACTLY what you are going through. I have no restriction either (fill appt 8/3/07) and am RAVENOUS after all the deprivation to get to this point. I was panicing, so I just spoke w/ a counselor in my dr's ofc who has a band and she told me that this time b/f the 1st fill is abt healing and practicing the new behaviors (not drinking w/ meals, small bites, chewing, etc), NOT losing weight. SOOOOOOOOOO, once we have restriction and SIMPLY CAN'T engage in our old eating behaviors the weight will start coming off. That said, pls try to find a more healthful alternative to the ice cream. A popcicle has far less calories and is a serving on a stick so you don't overdo it. My sister swears that that the Lite N' Fit yogurts when put in the freezer are delicious, so if it's the texture that you are hankering for, that is one thing to try. Let's use this time to find lower calorie alternatives to our faves. If you send me a msg, I will forward to you a recipe for a Protein shake that I made up during one of my desperate pre-op liquid days. Hope that this helps, Cheryl
