Liquid diet starts tomorrow.....
Scarlett O'hara replied to pearlygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All! I am scheduled April 30th and am supposed to begin my pre op diet tomorrow. I swear, I am going to go back to school and become a dietitian. I had my pre op appointment last week and she told me to start the liquid diet "around the 22nd, a week b-4 surgery". She was not entirely clear about it and the whole day was alot of info to absorb. So I called today, b/c if I start on the 22nd, it would be 9 days, but a week is 7 days, and you know - PLEASE, DON'T MESS WITH A FAT GIRLS EATING!! If I did 9 days, and found out I had to do it for only 7, well that would be tragic! When I called today, she said I should be on it for 10 days & to start today! I still need to go to the grocery store!! So, I think I would like to go to school & become a dietitian, so I can get a job at a weight loss clinic to advise people like me! Because I get it! Any way, here is my pre op diet: 4 Protein drinks daily Include 6 servings per day from the following: 1 cup tomato or v-8 juice 1/2 cup hot Cereal 1 cup sugar free pudding 6 ounces low-sugar yogurt 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce fat free raw vegtables Water or sugar free beverages as needed HMMMM... the hot cereal would include warming up some coco krispies?? I could handle that haha!! Oh, I hope I can do this! I am so glad that others feel the same!! and are being successful too! it is so encouraging! Everytime I have doubts I come to this web site ! I love it too! good luck to all! :rolleyes2: -

Bandsters in Nursing/Health Care Fields
laralen02 replied to beanie80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a PICU nurse. I took 10 days off work, thinking that working in pediatrics I'd be okay. Unfortunately, my first day back I admitted a 180lb 8 year old on an oscillator. I would take as much time as you can. As far as telling coworkers, I told everyone. They're pretty observant, and not stupid. Everyone was pretty supportive except for a couple of people. And what do I care what they think? I've lost almost 90lbs and I'm happy. One person said before surgery, "aren't you worried about going under anesthesia just for a cosmetic surgery?" I told her that #1, yes I am, but I don't consider it cosmetic. #2...didn't you have a boob job a few years ago! -
Doctor requires 10% of body weight lost pre-surgery. Common?
DaisyMay posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. My surgeon requires fairly extensive pre-surgery testing of all patients regardless of health history - sleep study, psych evaluation, dietician approval, EKG, chest x-ray, echocardiogram, blood work, and approval of family doctor. He also requires that all patients lose a minimum of 10% of their body weight prior to surgery - no exceptions. That means I have to lose at least 28 lbs. before the surgery. Is this common? Have others had this requirement? -
I am 10 weeks out have only lost about 10 lbs - I had my first fill on 8/8 and it didn't help much - I am not eating much but weight is coming off very very slow. I get another fill today at 3:00 so hope it helps. I definitely look thinner and my clothes are looser even though the scale doesn't show a change from last week - is it possible to lose inches even though it doesn't show up on the scale? Thanks.

I am freaking out. I am 6 days post-op (9/10) and have been taking care of myself and wearing my binding. Well this morning I noticed 2 little drops of pus or blood on my binding. I have the liquid stitches so I can see my scars and am scared that it is the start of an infection at the port site. ARGH!! Nervous and super scared of corrosion. Have any of you used antibiotics or mercurochrome (Sp?). I have left a message to the P.A. and just waiting but I am wigging!!

I am ten days post op and still have some discomfort in my shoulder. It actually comes and goes now. I have less discomfort after walking. The gas-x strips really didn't help me. I kept taking them, but I noticed after walking maybe 5 to 10 minutes, I would start releasing the gas (TMI I know). That would bring immediate relief. I hope you feel better soon.

I was banded on 11/30/10 and at the same time had my hiatal hernia repaired. Ever sense then ive got really bad back pain mid to middle. My doctor doesnt think it has anything to do with that and thinks i strained my back some how. Which i have no clue how i could have done that. Has anyone else had this problem? Because im in so much pain. Thanks

Alcohol loosening up the band?!
u10021 replied to SillyBandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i noticed this too, i think the reason is that you are usually sipping the liquid continuously over a period of time, so it is slowly lubricating the lap band opening, this would happen if you sipped any cold liquid. hot liquids like hot coffee won't have the same effect, but iced coffee will. i think the heat makes the band expand ( making it tighter) cold makes it contract( making it looser). hope that answers your question. i have had the band for 10+ years -
two months!!! whoop whoop
tjharmon replied to tjharmon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had to do liquids for two days before surgery. I lost about 10 pounds before... -
I have had a lot of sugar the last week. My weight has popped up a couple of pounds. In reality I was only 1 1/2 pounds over my lowest weight this morning... not 10 pounds like most other years. I can see how easy it has been to snack on all the goodies without any problem... if I kept it up I think i could really see the scales keep moving up up up... Thanks goodness for the sleeve... I left most of my food on the plate and want to be away from the sweets and back to protein and salad soon... get all the junk out. I am going to a party given my my binge party friends tomorrow... I am bringing a bunch of protein finger food... and veggie yummies. I hope this will keep my junk food eating to a minnimum. Plan ahead....write it all down afterward!

Any Advice for Pre-Op Diet?
Vangirl replied to WishUponABand's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet consisted of a slimfast shake in the morning and a lean cuisine/smart ones meal for lunch and another one for dinner. I was told if I needed something more I could have a salad with only green veggies(lettuce, spinach, celery, cucumbers, asparagus) and had to use those spray dressings (YUCK!!!-I hated those) I was also allowed one sugar free jello or sugar free pudding per day. I was not allowed any caffeine or soda. I could use Splenda to sweeten decaf tea and I could have Crystal Lite and water. It worked for me. I lost 19 lbs pre-op. Good luck to you!!! -
Weight Loss Seminar
Sexy Two Cents replied to HauteMama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, too, have attended my weight loss seminar. I have an appointment with Dr. Bruce Jones of Jonesboro, AR on Wed., Oct. 26th. If all goes well--after my two weeks on liquid diet---I will hopefully have my surgery either Wed before Thanksgiving or the Wed. after. I am super excited. I got out some old pictures of me at 19 and oh how I would like to be that size again(AND I WILL). My husband and one of my best friends from work went with me to the seminar. My husband is supporting me 100%. He has always been very supporting even with my size. I hope to retire a much healthier person and be ready to travel---because we love to travel!! -

I am 4 months out the VGS, and 10 years out of the RNY. In my experience, your stomach will always make noise, it will just lessen and become quieter over time. My friends and I joke and call them cartoon noises.

surgery tomorrow
TammyLee66 replied to NikkiWTGoalz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you are pretty far for me but we can at least follow each other and see how each other is doing and help support each other I have Kaiser insurance where they require you to do an orientation which I have next week and then after that you have to sign up for A 12 week class and from what I understand you have to lose 10% of your weight during that class and halfway through you start going and getting all Preop stuff done that way when you're done with the class you can go see the surgeon right away and set up a date Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
This is a topic I'm glad to see, because it's something I wonder about. I enjoy a glass of wine (one!) with dinner most nights, if I stay up later, it may be two, maybe three at the outside (I have a non-drinking spouse to drive me home). I have a friend who is 10 months post GBP and she hasn't had any alcohol yet. I have another who is 2.5 years post sleeve and she waited about three months. I don't have a surgery date yet, but I wouldn't plan my first drink for a big holiday dinner or other event - I'd take it slow and see whether the surgery (and also my period of pre and post-op abstinence) had changed my body's response. No sense making a bigger fool of myself in public than I have to

Calling out to the June 2011 Bansters
Debora Anne replied to Debora Anne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Helo there! My update - Glad to hear your working with a specialist I am sure you are doing great! I am doing well just had my 4th fill - I think I am at my green zone- I do still have "head hunger" in the evenings but since cooler weather is coming I am sewing more so keep myself busy! I have one son 28 years old a daughter- in law and 22 FANTASTIC grandsons - 2 and 1.5 months!!!!!!!!!! Weight is sow but steady about 2lbs a week! Still excercising every day but change it up since the pool is too cold to swim now Walk away the punds with the band I highly reccomend! wow, HELLO fellow June 2011 bandsters. I was banded on June 30th. I started at 220# the beginning of my journey in Jan. 2010. Had to lose 10% weight by march 2011. At that time I was 208#. Gained back up to 215# waiting for insurance to approve. Surgery date set and weight was back down to a 206#. Surgery date weight was 204#. Two days after surgery I was 210# and now I am 189#. I have stopped losing weight due to relapse into old eating habits. I've been at 189# for two months now. I am working with an eating behavioralist to get "back on track" with my meals. I am at three fills and feeling some restriction. I am sure that one more fill will put me in the green zone. I know that I will start losing again in the next month as my behavioralist is aggressive in her therapy. So happy she is non judgemental, I judge myself enough lately. So I am married with four children, boy 21, boy 18, girl 15, step son 11 and boy 3. Also have a grand daughter 8 months. I live in Minnesota but my heart is warm and sunny in Miami. It would be nice to hear from more June 2011 bandsters. and updates on you goals and weight loss. I need some inspiration. Also anyone see the movie Corageous? -
Looking for friends/support
katladee replied to dream_small's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Megan, Lisa and Mom! I am also a newbie to WLS. I probably won't have mine done until January. My insurance requires 3 mos of nutritional counseling. I don't have the first one until 10/2. I joined BP because I needed all the information I could find on the sleeve. Pre-op, post-op, and after a year on what to expect, what people are eating, and just for support as well! Feel free to add me as a friend as we go on this journey together, sharing stories, fears and successes! Just call me Kat! Good luck to you guy's! -

As many will tell you hang in there you are doing great. With such a quick weight loss your body is adjusting. I too lose weight and then gain a little. I know it is frustrating but I have kind of gotten used to it. The last couple of days I upped my cardio by only 10 minutes and this morning lost 1.5 pounds! It could be a coincidence but who knows. As long as you are eating right/water and vitamins the weight will come off! Sleep is important too so make sure you are getting enough. I also eat a little more some days to see if this may jolt my system; they say this shakes up your metabolism. Congrats on your weight loss you can and will do it!!
