So, I’m a few weeks post op and I’m just curious as to how long it took some of you to have your first alcoholic drink post op. I’ve seen most recommend after 6 mos to a year

Hi everyone, im new on here. Wls is something i have thought about for a few years now but not seriously, i always thought eventually I'll do it on my own. I started putting on weight at around 12 years old. I was sexually abused from age 10 too 11. This affected me dramatically and i shut myself off from everything and food was my comfort. I have tried and failed at diets ever since. Iv tried most of the diets going, slimming world more tines than i can count, ww when it was weight watchers, rosemary connelly, cabbage soup diet, calorie counting and not eating for days at a time. Each time i lose some but eventually give up when the weight loss sticks and each time i end up heavier than before. Im now almost 23 stone (317lb) and im 5 foot 8 inches tall. My bmi 48 so im classed as morbidity obese. I wear 24/26 clothes. I have arthritis in my knees, feet and back which makes it difficult to exercise due to the pain and i know losing weight would help me a lot. My parents both have high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels and my mom is type 1 diabetic and has to inject insulin. The last few months i have thought more seriously about wls, i have spoken to the weight management woman at my gp surgery who got my doctor to refer me to bariatrics. I have a blood sugar blood test tomorrow and then i will be referred to hospital. I only spoke the her last week so im shocked im getting referred so quickly. I will be around reading posts and asking questions of you i hope thats ok. What questions should i ask when i get seen? Sent from my SM-A526B using BariatricPal mobile app

check with your surgeon (actually, he/she will probably let you know at your follow-up appts). I was walking right away. At four weeks out, I was cleared to do everything except for weights. At eight weeks out, I was cleared for weights.
-
Your surgeon will tell you the answer for this question as it pertains to you. I was up and walking an hour after surgery. I did only walking for two weeks and had a 10-pound weight restriction. At my two-week appointment, I was cleared to do running, jumping rope, and biking and anything that didn't involve my core. I was also allowed to go up to 15 pounds (at my request) so I could use a training bar for barbell work. At my six-week appointment, I was cleared for anything I wanted. I took a few weeks to get back into the swing of things, and now at ten weeks out I am doing nearly everything I did before, but I have noticed some loss of strength (MUH GAINZZZZ). It is coming back relatively quickly as I increase the amount I eat.

How much did weight loss slow down for you?
Orinskye replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As others have told you: you go at your own pace. i can give you my stats though. my highest? 330lbs at surgery:294 lbs. my weight now 8 months post op: 204lbs. that’s just over 11 pounds a month…. However I can tell you that there were many stalls where I lost barely anything, then I dropped a ton very quickly. for example: three weeks ago I was at 224 and I was holding steady at that same weight for several weeks before that. I figured I was just too close to my goal weight so it would take even more time and I would need to buckle down and really work at it. Imagine my surprise to find that I weigh myself a week later and it was 214….. then another week later and it’s 204…. now I am rethinking my goal. My goal was originally 195lbs (I’m 6 ft 2”) and that number is at the top of my “healthy bmi” scale. I’m now thinking I can go lower because I’m so close to goal right now and I still have fatty areas. 🤷🏼♀️ but that seems to be my “normal” where I would hold steady for a long period then drop a ton of weight over the course of a week or two…. Then hold steady for several weeks and drop again… -
I am a myfitnesspal paid version fan, though there are several things I don't like. 1. Too many glossy pictures of food. I am trying to avoid all the glamour surrounding food. Food should be a tool to stay alive or prevent illness. Most of the obesity epidemic is due to advertising. The remainder is due to ignorance about nutrition, nutrition labels and the actions of unscrupulous food processors. 2. Much of the data is untrustworthy. People constantly post foods that don't even have all the information on a nutrion panel let alone the correct info. 3. I have to enter the nutrition data myself in my foods section for everthing I eat. 4. Myfitnesspal is not providing support for bariatric people or for people that weigh all of their foods. I have been using myfitnesspal for over 7 years now and lost over 100 lb three times while using it. It otherwise is the best thing out there to use.

Need massive help
Arabesque replied to Octalmist37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like @Sunnyway I have a lot of respect for Dr Matt Weiner’s advice. If you don’t want to get the books he also has great videos on You Tube: https://m.youtube.com/user/DrMatthewWeiner/videos I really like his recommendation to make one change at a time in your eating. Make a change then a couple of weeks later make another. Small changes are easier to manage & accept. And you get small wins to help you refocus & get back on the best path for you. Maybe start by tracking your intake again so you have a better picture of what & how much you’re eating. Then drop something from your diet. A couple of weeks later swap out something for a healthier choice. It will take time but it may help to make the changes permanent cause that’s how to be successful long term - permanent & sustainable changes to how, what & why we eat. Were you referred to a bariatric therapist during your approval process? If so, may be reach out to them again or contact your surgeon & ask for a referral to a reputable & experienced therapist. Many, many people have had success with therapy. It will help you better understand & manage what drives you to eat & help you find the motivation to take control of your eating habits. All the best. -
I had my original RNY in 2010. Lost 120 lbs. In the past 12 years I have had a baby, my parents moved in with me and my weak ankle and flat foot got progressively worse until I was limited to swimming and yoga for exercise. I gained 60 lbs back and my gastric reflex was getting bad. I had an upper GI and found 1. Hiatal hernia (rare for RNY) and my pouch was 3x the size my surgeon would like and my stomach 2x. He said that it is partially due to stretching and partially that my original surgeon made it bigger than he would have in the first place. Revision in 3 weeks. I’m a little nervous because last time I was able to lay around on the couch for 3 weeks post op and “eat” all my “meals” alone. Now I have a very active 7 year old and a family that likes to have family dinners together. Any other RNY to RNY revisions?

Preop for Gastric Sleeve revision to Roux en Y

No pro op diet at all, but I wish I had as I’ve only lost 13kg at 11 weeks. Also told to eat soft food at 7 days, but that was rough so I went back to purée for a few days and then came right. Positive note it’s settled the reflux. -
Another late arrival to the party! It's 9 days until my surgery date (3 Dec). I am, what I would call, a normal level of nervous. Manageable. I've been on a 2 week VLCD with the 9 days left. I am looking forward to less pre-packaged food after surgery. My husband has been nothing but supportive, but he's in general attracted to my bigger body size/shape. He says he's with me no matter what, but my stupid 'inner saboteur' always rears its ugly head and makes me doubt whether he will still find me attractive in a year or so.

I had this , I think it’s cause we lose muscle too fast in that area, it took about 4 weeks to come right and a trip to chiropractor. Good luck

Runny Nose When Full
The Greater Fool replied to Bill Potts's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I sneeze. Twice. Two is the number of the sneezes. Three sneezes do not happen. One sneeze is right out, lest there be a second sneeze in quick succession. Of the sneezes there shall be two. Good Luck, Tek It seems to have to do with the Vagus nerve being messed with (cut, nicked, manhandled, or whatever). -
Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?
Tomo replied to doobie31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I thought the same thing before any WLS. I had an appt with my surgeon last week and he told me to eat more. To try to get to 900 cal. I am still eating about 600 cal. It is still mindblowing to me to be honest. I begin each meal like I could eat tons but after a couple of bites, it is over lol. In a few more months, my appetite and capacity will go up anyway so for now I am just riding the wave. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Almost 3 weeks out. Am I doing something wrong?
Tomo replied to Prisci1608's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds to me you are on the right path. The first month stalls due to water weight and the body's adjustments are very common. Restriction came a little later for me when I got to solid foods and my body was competed healed. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Serious sore throat from intubation?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Jerald180's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yeah, mine was pretty bad for about a week or so. They hit my uvula going down so it was swollen and irritated. See if they’ll let you have some throat spray or a cough drop. -

I had a good bit of irritation and discomfort for probably the first week. Warm tea and lots of rest seemed to do the trick. -
For some of us we will be starting the liquid diet this week or next. Hoping all goes well, we are getting closer!

Almost 3 weeks out. Am I doing something wrong?
vikingbeast replied to Prisci1608's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They told me the same thing, but it depends on your level of physical activity. But I've always been able to eat more than they suggest. Here is reality: you were probably eating 2000-3000 calories a day before, and now you are eating much less. Whether you're eating 500 cal or 800 cal, you are still WAY DOWN IN A CALORIC DEFICIT. So if they're trying to blame a stall on that, they're full of you-know-what. Stay off the scale, eat your food, make sure you are getting physical exercise, even if it's just a couple of walks a day. It will move. The scale will move. It's simple physics. -
Fellow Mini Gastric Bypasser/Omega Looper here! Congrats on getting yours! My main focus is getting in my protein and water, which I double-up on with protein water twice a day (28g protein each), and protein-fortified soy milk (10g per 250ml). Then my supplement vitamins just before bed so I don't risk accidentally washing them through my system with water. My routine is protein water as soon as I get up, and another in the afternoon. I have regular water and protein-fortified soy unsweetened matcha lattes (maximum of 2) throughout the rest of the day, leaving spaces for solid food. Since you've just come out of hospital, you're still on liquids, so you've likely been told to have protein shakes. If you can tolerate them (I tried my best, but after six weeks, I just couldn't do the shakes anymore so switched to just protein water), then you'll skate through, but if you can't then keep protein water in mind.

Is my weight loss normal?
Arabesque replied to ReginaH's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is no right or wrong rate of loss. There is just what is right for you because we lose at our own rate. Many factors influence your rate of loss: age, gender, starting weight, genetics, etc. You’ll find in all your weight loss experiences there are averages but with all averages some do better & others not as well & that’s ok. There’ll also be things you’ll have in common with some people & things you won’t. Remember, how fast or slow you lose doesn’t affect whether you reach your goal or not. There are some things you can depend upon. The more you have to lose the faster you lose to begin. The closer you are to your goal the slower your loss will be. And you likely will experience at least one stall (usually lasting 1-3 weeks). Good luck.
