Today was the first day of a more solid food - cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, Greek yogurt, cream of wheat and applesauce. It was fantastic to feel something in my mouth at breakfast other than a liquid. I've lost 14 lbs to date and I'm 10 days post op

Favorite unflavored protein?
blashlee replied to hopefulmom76's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Correct. I usually put mine in my coffee or tea, or yogurt/cottage cheese. You can also add it to hot food and liquid but it needs to be no hotter than 140F degrees. You can see it, but in my opinion, you can't taste it. I tried other "unflavored" Proteins and it gave my drinks a vitamin/medicine after taste that I couldn't stand. -

Post-op Meal Phases
Bufflehead replied to BigHarleyGuy1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really does vary a lot. My plan was: four weeks full liquids -- protein shakes, milk, strained or cream soups, G2, Powerade Zero, SF popsicles, SF jello four weeks purees -- poached or scrambled eggs, various forms of dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese, melted cheese), pureed meats or beans, nut butters, soft tofu, refried beans -- ONLY high protein foods, no fruits, vegetables, or grains four months of soft foods -- food soft enough to cut easily with a fork. No grains, starchy veggies, or sweets permitted. As you can see from the variety of responses here, you'll need to get detailed information, including lists of permitted and forbidden foods, from your dietician directly. It's really pretty irrelevant what other surgical practices do -- you should only care about your own. -
I ate that every day for a week! I also loved the black bean puree with greek yogurt on top! Yum!!

Staying under total calories but right amount of protein
r6malbear posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am at 5 months out and I notice that I do not stay under the recommended 800 calories per day put keeping my Protein between 60 -80 grams. What do others eat throughout the day to stay where you need to be. I usually eat yogurt and a fruit for breakfast, tuna fish and salad for lunch, a snack in the afternoon of a Protein Bar and dinner is meat (fish, chicken, pork) and a veggie and a protein snack at night. I have been stalled for about 4 -5 weeks now and need help. And yes I do exercise 5 days a week walking for about 40 minutes at a fast pace. -
Post-op Meal Phases
Willow822 replied to BigHarleyGuy1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post-op diet was: Week 1 clear liquids- sugar free (broth, Jello, popsicles, Fruit drinks, sherbert, Water, decaf coffee and tea, skim milk, Protein shakes) Week 2 full liquids- (all the same as above but can add low fat or fat free yogurt and cottage cheese) Weeks 3 & 4 pureed foods- ( food pureed with liquid to applesauce consistency, can add spices) Weeks 5 & 6 soft foods - (soft cooked moist meats and veggies, soft fruit, ground lean meat) After week 6 I can have pretty much anything I can tolerate with the exception of alcohol and salad. I have to wait until 6 months post op to add those things. From what I have learned on here, doctors vary greatly on their post op diets so ask any and all questions so you fully understand yours. I emailed my poor NUT several times a week in the beginning but she was great! -
Post-op Meal Phases

Every doctor has a different plan so it's hard to break it down like that. My doctor progresses on the more rapid size. I had one week of liquids only (full liquids not just clear) then a week of puréed (thicker soups without chinks, cottage cheese, yogurt, ricotta, retried beans all worked fine too) then a week of soft which was anything I could cut/mash with a fork (soft fish, deli meats, cooked vegetables, eric) then I was cleared to introduce anything and continue as tolerated. -
What yogurt are you having. ..I need to eat more yogurt. .but can't stand plain Greek yogurt....in need of suggestions?

Which surgery did you have. I'm kind of at a similar place-- I'm 8 weeks out RNY, and am bored with eating/have no appetite. Outside of eggs for Breakfast i'll eat turkey sausage, oatmeal or cold Cereal. I don't do the cereals often, but do have then occasionally in small amounts just to offer variety. I don't like yogurt so breakfast get boring fast for me. lunch I'll eat tuna fish over spinach, with a baby bell cheese; or sometimes I buy a grilled chicken/pepper/avocado wrap and just eat the insides of the wrap. Lunch meat/cheese & tomato.Or a turkey burger w/cheese (no bun) and sliced peppers and tomato on the side. dinner I'll have whatever Protein I'm cooking for the family, pork chop, chicken, etc. I just usually leave out the starch (rice etc) from my plate. I'll also eat spaghetti [meat] sauce, w/ no Pasta, but add ricotta to it. Tonight I'm baking chicken fingers for dinner. I don't snack much, but unsweetened apple sauce or canned peaches are my go to's. Hope that gives you some ideas.

I actuall graze quiet a bit during the day. Some days are just all grazing. But it's never on junk. I will have sliced turkey and cheese to nibble on, hummus and crackers, hard boiled eggs, Peanut Butter on banana slices, beef Jerky, high Protein Cereal & milk, string cheese, greek yogurt w/ granola (that's more like a meal), a leftover meatball or two, ect.... When my kids are here at home I cook and we eat meals. When theyre at their dad's I usually just graze on whatever leftovers are in the refrigerator. I still try to track my grazing but as long as it's protein first and pretty healthy food, I don't worry too much about it.

Almost a week post-op, just now experiencing nausea
GinaSq replied to girlonfire89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and started feeling nausea and vomiting about 4-5 days ago. Has been constant if I try to eat anything (yogurt, Water, tea, etc) Not from over-eating since it usually occurs after one or two small sips or bites. -

My NUT told me my goals are 1000-1100 calories daily. Carbs at 550 calories = 137.5 g Protein 330 calories = 82.5 g Fat 220 calories = 24g Water 64oz daily I hit my protein goals pretty consistently and part of that is adding a scoop of chocolate flavored protein to either Dannon Fit & Light Greek yogurt 80 calories or Yoplait 100 calorie Greek yogurt. Both are in vanilla no fruit added. Gives me a whopping 35-38g protein in one sitting! Now I'm on soft foods the remaining protein comes from seafood or chicken as well as legumes. Water is harder because of the 30/30 rule which in my case is more like 30/90 because I don't seem to digest very well and 30 minutes after a meal is guaranteed to make it come back up. I can only safely get in 1/8-1/4 cup of meat in each meal (I measure each meal with real meat in it because more comes back up ????). Funny, the yogurt never comes back up so that has become my go to staple when I have rough days! Hope this helps. Michelle -
hungry but can't make myself eat

Change it up a bit. Buy different flavor yogurts ( I love Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt) and soups -
What does full feel like?
kmvalade replied to Stacyc311's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've researched the digestive process and understand now why my hunger isn't there. I'm 9 weeks out and have had to set 5 timers on my phone to remind me to eat or snack. There is a hormone called Grehlin in your stomach that secretes more as you get hungry. Once you eat it stops secreting. In a sleeve you have 80% of your stomach removed. It totally throws off the production of Grehlin. Not only is your stomach healing from the surgery (which drinking your Protein to 60-70 gms a day is important. Not just for healing but also for stabalizing your whole system.) I've read that there is a risk at 6-9 months out that you could start losing your hair (it does grow back) I also read that if you take a lot of protein in from the beginning that your hair won't be affected. I'm hoping that's the case. I'm up to eating about 700-800 calories a day. I read labels and shoot for food low in carbs and sugar. My only vice is yogurt (which I never used to like). It has good protein and even with the "light" yogurt there are still 11 gms of sugar. I've discovered my "ate too much" button a couple of times and it wasn't pretty. It does change as you heal. I started out being able to drink 1 oz. and now i'm up to 4oz of solid food. If you are eating/drinking like they say to then your body should signal you before you get too full. The expression "your eyes are bigger than your stomach" is very true in this surgery lol. -
Don't give up. You won't be sorry. It gets easier Protein shakes...yuk I make mine using about half cup of frozen fripuir, half cup low fat milk, half cup..or less.. Of unflavored Greek yogurt and 2 packets of sweet we. Blend in a ni game blender for a out 2 minutes. Really good! I eat this for Breakfast or an afternoon snack. You're doing great. Wait until you see your reflection in a store window and you're surprised that it's you!

Got all my protein in today
kmvalade replied to TheOnlyDuchess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do watch my calories and I keep a journal. I typically find just a few things that I like and eat them over and over. I read all the labels when I buy something. At 9 weeks out i'm probably getting around 800 calories a day. My day usually looks like this: morning I have premier Protein with my meds (160 cal). at snack time I have a light yogurt (90 cal) at lunch I'll eat my lettuce wraps or something similar (2 leaves at mix 160 cal) snack is another yogurt or blueberries as light cool whip (90 cal) and then for dinner maybe 3tbl of refried Beans with cheese and 4-5 scoop chips (maybe 100 cal) then at night I have another Protein Drink with meds. (160 cal) (approx 760/day) sometimes I might snack on things like edamame or wasabi peas but I usually stick to the same diet. Only change is if I go over to my mother's....then i'll eat something different but it's usually only a few bites. She made cabbage rolls the other night and my eyes were bigger than my stomach lol I took 2 small ones and could still only eat 1. It's been an interesting journey so far. take care -
Puree stage - any recommendations?
kmvalade replied to cuchas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate yogurt, cream of wheat, got homemade Soups from the grocery store, applesauce, drank 2 Protein drinks a day (Premier Protein 30gms) SF pudding, at that phase I wasn't really hungry. A little bit goes a long way. I spoiled myself with mashed potato and gravy from KFC. I couldn't deal with mashing things that have texture. I looked at baby food but it is so high in calories, carbs, sugars it's not worth it. Best of luck on your journey! -

Pregos please say hello....
southernqt replied to BulgeBeGone's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Yeah that's what I plan on doing. No heavy stuff...mostly protein shakes and probably some yogurt or pudding. As the baby gets bigger things will start moving out the way to make way for her right? Does that include our stomach and lapband? I'm sure our stomachs aren't excluded just because we have lapband lol but I'm curious as they grt bigger will this get worse. What do you think? -
Stage IV Diet aka Real Food
Rebecca Jo Ragon replied to KDM74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 4 months out and can tolerate most everything that is okay to eat at this stage. Per my drs. instructions, I cannot add Pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, etc. until 6 months. I can do coconut and apples. I have a fav snack with greek yogurt, apples, unsweetened coconut, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and pistachios. Granted, I am only eating 1/4 of an apple with each serving. The very first time I tried it, I had some issues. However, I waited a couple weeks and tried it again and didn't have any problems. I now eat that a couple times a week. I have also had pineapple, kiwi, all sorts of berries, watermelon, cantaloupe, and grapes. Because I focus on Protein, anytime I have something like that it is in very small quantities. I have not had any issues. I think the most important thing to realize is that everyone is different. What might cause an issue for me may be something that you don't have any problems with at all. Just test things in small quantities and see what happens. If you do have an issue with something, then wait a couple weeks and try it again. Good luck! -
Protein powders and shakes
Shustar replied to scarletwitch19's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My Dr recommends Biochem Whey Protein in the unflavored variety. This is great in Soups, yogurt and in Crystal Lite. I buy it through Amazon. 1 scoop is 20g protein/90 cals.
