You don't need WLS just go on a diet!

I understand completely! I'm having my surgery 10/30 and have kept most of it to myself since i've had people tell me "oh you have no motivation now well then you wont after surgery so its pointless" "or why dont you just diet and lose the weight". so sad to hear people judge my decisions so quick that are supposed to be my friends and be supportive but at the end of the day i have to keep telling myself, im doing this for my body and my mind and not for them

    Anyone regretting this?

Had 2 bags on the 1st while I fell after tripping, slipping or parsing out, son feels the first, I'm thinking the last because I don't remember tripping, bruised up my knee, the one that was first replaced, bruised my belly and tore my right arm open, a long skin tear, this week it's good enough to go without a dressing. So I am getting patched up, and someone passed along I was status post an RnY, now my local hospital is only a community one, so like a purple spotted giraffe EVERYBODY had to come see the strange animal. I had to end up doing a tutorial, a few had seen lao-band, a few had VSG patients but a bono fide Bypasser? Nope, never ever! I'm told my "BandAid Station" is adding Bariatrics 2019 or early 2920, they do have a new accredited and experienced in place, just doing general surgery at this point. But like Sgt Schultz from Hogan's Heroes," They Know nothing, They see Nothing" Finally I got enough fluid in that I could void, this pleased them and I was free to leave! Since then, although Dr Noria, my surgeon's partner that ❤doing endoscopies, told me not to be concerned about counts until my stricture is alleviated, I have endevored to be Q.S, on fluids and proteins , not easy on a restricted liquid diet , This morning my protein shake isvrepulsing me so I will heat up bone broth, good for me but I will need something else within 2 hours, never "sticks" with me. Oh I do yearn for purees and soft solids, just pho, euntil I am repaired, it All Comes Back Up and faster than I swallowed it.💦💦Anyone want to come to my Pity Party? Only passing out Regrets Today.

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

Just got my official approval for my surgery on 11/5. Pre-op appointment on 10/24 and liquid diet starts on 10/25. Anyone else starting liquid around the same time? I'm nervous about surviving 10 days of liquids. Would love to have someone in the same position to chat with and support with!

    Six Months After My VSG

Thank you! I was wearing a size 18-20 jeans and XXL tops. I am now wearing a size 8-10 jeans and a Med-Large top. It is so weird looking at myself now and before.

My family is being rough too.. my dad was sleeved in 2011 and has gained about half of it back so keeps monitoring everything I put in my mouth. My aunt and sister think I’m cheating by having surgery and should do it the “real” way. They are both overweight too so I don’t get it. My bf was supportive but he dumped me recently. So that was fun. I was sleeved 10/1 and am still sooo tired. Anyone else?

I totally understand how you feel. I’m facing the same challenge; therefore, I’m only sharing my journey with my husband. My surgery date is 10/29 also. Wishing the best for you, good luck!!

HI All! I’m new to this group and so happy to have found you all. I had my surgery 10/2 and I wish I had known about this group sooner. It’s so nice to read through and see people living through the same experiences both successes and struggles that I am. It can be a very lonely process but your stories make me feel a little less crazy and justify my feelings. And it also reduces my panic with some of the aches and painsI’ve been having to hear it’s normal. To all those still in the pre-op phase feel free to ask me any questions you may have as I wish I had had someone to talk to who had so recently been through what I was about to go through.

Thank you for reaching out. My family are in three distinct groups: 1. My husband and kids (ages 16 & 19) are trying to be supportive but since they are all active and not overweight, it's hard now that I am on a liquid diet. 2. There is the "I'm disappointed in you." Crowd. Those that I've told who, despite watching me struggle for over 20 years still think it's because I don't really want to lose the weight. "You don't need to get the surgery. Just eat like you already have." To them it's a willpower issue and if I truly wanted to lose the weight, I would. Then there's group 3. A small group of family who believe in ONLY holistic medicine. This is the group that's been the most difficult to stomach. They've told me I'm going to die from the complications, I'm going to spend the rest of my life depressed and an outcast because I won't be able to be a part of family gatherings (which ALWAYS include a ton of food/sweets) and if I would just commit to a couple flushes and the whole 30 diet, I could get the same results. I had come to terms with the negativity and settled in knowing my husband was behind me. But now that I'm on the liquid diet, all those fears I had laid to rest are weighing on my mind...it's only been 3 days and I'm frustrated and angry. My sons football team has their team dinner Thursday and family dinner Sunday...here I am making taco salad and chili and I can't even have a bite. Sweetest day is coming up this weekend as well as my husband's birthday and for the first time in 19 years, i can't take him out to dinner. I just really hope giving all of this up is worth it in the end. I don't want to stretch my pouch and end up right back where I am now. [emoji53] Sent from my BLN-L24 using BariatricPal mobile app

I was sleeved on 10-15-18. So, 1 day post op and I’m resting at home. Hurts to take sips, just trying to figure out what temp works best for me. I am really sore and thirsty. Just trying to stay hydrated because I don’t wanna have to go back into the hospital. 1st day I was up and down and walking all around halls and the nurses station. Ice packs are a life saver. Tylenol w/ codeine helps with the belly pain, but my throat is still kind of sore. Trying to walk walk walk and sip sip sip. And remembering that this pain and nausea is only temporary. This too shall pass. Hope everyone is doing well.

    1 week post op

Get your water in! That’s helps move things- think of it as flushing the fat out. It took me about 7 -10 days to get rid of surgery fluid and get “regular”..... feel better

I gained 15 pounds from surgery and I was only there 24 hrs. I know it's all the fluids they pump into you. I'm 5 days post-op and I've lost 10 of those 15 pounds but can easily see myself being at my surgery weight at my 2 week check-up. I'm hoping that's normal.

I have answers to questions that I have brought up to the group from my two week post op appointment today and wanted to share. 1) Apparently the pulling of a muscle pain I was experiencing is normal and most likely scar tissue breaking up. The pulling comes from my largest incision above my belly button. They said to keep walking and that will help. 2) Loading up on protein at once is not a good thing. Apparently we can’t absorb more than 30 grams of protein at a time. Also, my weightloss majorly slowed down this past week. I was only down 3 lbs. I was told that it was normal but discouraging after loosing 10 lbs my 1st week post op and also 10 lbs the week before surgery on the liver shrinking diet.

    “Clean Your Plate!”

I was a fussy eater as a child, I would eat tinned baked beans or spaghetti for breakfast! Loved fish fingers, wasn't a fan of a heap of veg. Mum remarried when I was 7 and Dad would make me sit at the table and finish what was on my plate and I think that is probably what triggered my weight issues but really who knows. I kept getting told to think about the poor starving children in Africa. I'm not sure how my eating everything helped them and I'm sure at least once I offered to put my food in an envelope and send it to them. I still have nightmares about peas. I can't stand the things. I would cover them in tomato sauce and swallow them whole as that was the only was I could get them down. I also hated cheese and was forever been told how healthy it was. I am now happy to eat cheese but only the mild varieties. I can't stand blue or strong cheeses. As it is so full of fat and calories I think I would have been better off still hating it. I was plump from about age 9 or 10. I got told it was puppy fat and I would lose it when I was older and so began my life of yoyo dieting - Injections, pills, hypnosis , Beverley Hills, Cabbage soup I've done it all.

    Band to Bypass

I'm in Aus so things are probably a little different. I saw my surgeon in Sept at which point he suggested the revision and I was given all the info and costings. I then went home to think about it. Contacted the office to find out what the process is and was told I need to see the surgeon again - app made for 29/10 and the dietician 30/10. I am hoping that I will then be given a date. I have been for a preop consult already. I had an ECG, was asked various questions, had my feet and armpit checked ( they could have warned me about that prior to the appointment). I have been given a referral for bloods to be done 3 weeks prior to surgery.

How fast can I bounce back?

I had surgery on 09/24. I took two weeks off from my desk job. After a week I felt like I could have gone back. I went back to work on 10/8 and on 10/9 I passed out and broke my foot in two places. So please don't rush it and make sure that you drink plenty of fluids.

  17. @GreenTealael Just me, and maybe a slippery slope for you, but if these chickie fingers were worth walking uphill both ways through the rain while PMSing, you TOTALLY deserved to have them. Sorry you're going through hell week! But we know you will make it great with the IF helping out! Woot! Congrats on reaching your weight range!!!! @Matt Z Wahhhhooooo congrats big time on being 12 lbs from your big goal!!! I really believe you can still pull out a victory in 28 days!!! That's less than a 1/2lb per day and you're a dude! You go, man!!!! Dooooooo eeeettttt!!! @sillykitty Yiiiiipppppeeeeeee!!! So happy you got through your business trip without a gain--with a loss! Even better!!! That's outstanding. Are you now on your vacation yet?? Can't wait for piccys on that and to hear how you're doing! To all the other little friends who hang with us, come on out and play!!! Start IFing with us. We want to hear from you even if you'r not IFing!!! *** Ok, so I haven't IF'd since last week. I did some loose 14:10's but that's about all I can claim. I did a 16:8 yesterday. I came back up at 157.8lb, but today I'm 156lbs, so who know where it will settle out. I have bad lymphedema going in my arm. Meh. It happens on every trip. No worries. I also may have some gallbladder or some kind of issue. Don't know what it is yet, so am not gonna waller on about it and yammer, cuz it's probably just an irritated esophagus. No big whoop--no carryin' on or attention-seeking needed. Will let you know as I have test results if it turns into anything. I'm sure it won't. It never does. I'm doing a 24hour IF tomorrow with Mr. F. I may try to parlay it into a 36 or 42 hour fast. It should be relatively easy...except I ate ALL. THE. FOOD. in Kerrville and Fredericksburg this weekend. They are flat out of food. The end.
  18. I had sleeve surgery on 10/10. I wasn’t expecting the nausea and constant vomiting the first 2 days or the terrible heartburn, which thankfully is going away. I also wasn’t expecting to GAIN 9lbs while I was in the hospital! The other thing i didn’t expect - i look pregnant! My stomach is so distended I look terrible! On the plus side - I never really had any pain (besides the heartburn).
  19. Well shall I start? 1. A RnY on September 5th 2018 Ohio State University Hospital Werner Medical Center. Columbus. Ohio 43210 2. Stricture of Pouch Stoma and 5 gastric/ jejunal ulcers. 3 Had EDJ 10/12/2018 to confirm dx, Additional EDJ scheduled for 10/26/2018. Now had Carafate 4 x daily added to medications. After that not certain of options as yet. 3. Not sure- maybe reassurance that although these things can happen your surgeon is not without means to treat it. Strange to say 2 Bari-pals both have this problem. Neither of us did anything to induce it, just an unlucky dice throw. 4 my story is stated on the other surgery complication thread but I will say I DO NOT REGRET MY SURGERY,I do not blame my surgeon, I knew going in I might not be an easy patient, but he granted me a surgery I had been working towards for over 3 years and I am eternally grateful,i believe my problems can and will be solved soon!👸😭😛

Hey, just checking in (I read back through the thread to see how folks are doing. Thank you all for the well-wishes and condolences. ❤️ I just successfully ate my first cottage cheese since surgery (10/3), and I've done fine with Greek yogurt and ricotta (with just a little Italian seasoning and low-fat Trader Joe's pizza sauce, because that's what I have on hand). Balancing my nutritionists' "try to eat three meals per day" with "get more than 60 grams of protein" and "don't drink within half an hour of eating" and "get more than 64 ounces of liquid" is ... a lot, especially with going back to school and dealing with family stuff. I'm not getting all that much protein from my food, because I'm only eating a couple of tablespoons, maybe, per "meal." I know it gets easier, and if I'm only at 55 grams of protein one day (or, like ... three?) it won't kill me or make all of my hair fall out. I'm not freaked out about it, just sharing the struggle, I guess. My vitamins make me a little sick, though as the amount of food I can eat increases, so does my tolerance for them. It'll work itself out. Also, I joked to my spouse, before surgery: "I'm ready for all kinds of complications, so the one I end up with will be one I didn't think of." Yeah. Uh. I was allergic to something they used during the surgery. About a week afterward, I broke out in hives all over my torso and the tops of my thighs. My surgeon isn't very helpful: "try taking Benadryl, and if that doesn't work I'll order a steroid block for you, but I don't want to do that." (Steroids wreak havoc on post-surgical healing.) I've looked for information online, and most people get over them on their own, so I'm making due with hydrocortisone cream (it's a steroid, but only a low amount of it, and on my skin instead of being taken as a pill), Aveeno eczema-strength lotion (has a lot of oats in it, which are good for this kind of thing), and Benadryl at night. So... that's been awful. (They are very itchy hives. It's terrible.) I can drink pretty normally again, now. I don't have to have these itty-bitty sips. I think gulping would hurt, and I make sure not to do that, but normal-size mouthfuls feel good. So... that's what just under two weeks out looks like, for me.
  22. I know, right?! 10 weeks!! Not a typo.
  23. I was sleeved 10/16/17 with a highest weight of 347, surgery weight of 283. This morning I weighed 174.2! What a year it has been. Ups and downs, struggles and successes, and figuring out the new me. I was a 3xl shirt and 44" waist, and am now wearing a Large slim fit shirt and 32" pants. Life is much more enjoyable with my new found energy, ability to move around, and to squeeze through places I never thought of before. The year has flown by pretty quickly, and I am so happy to have made the decision to go forward with surgery.
