  1. Hi Timo, wow, now you probably out of the Hospital..? Right. I will get a better internet hook up, in about 7-10 days. Can Skype then, if you like. How are you feeling now... hang in there,it gets better. We can talk on phone , or meet up anywhere in the City or eastern Sub, if you like. OK, let me know, B-Franky
  2. @@beachgal2935 Thank you for your words of encouragement! I'm not too much younger than you... I'm 46 and have been overweight since I was under 10 years old. Excited about this upcoming change in my life! (And accepting and working through the grieving stage of this positive life choice!)
  3. I was sleeved on 10/2/2018 and am down 47lbs. I feel like my progress is slow but steady. I’m actually in the 250’s for the first time in YEARS! My hubby and I have a Vegas trip planned in January and my gift to myself if I’m under 250 is to go horseback riding for the first time ever. I’ve never been under the maximum weight in my adult life so I’ve always avoided doing it. I know it will be cold but I don’t care. My butt will be freezing doing something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m so excited. Now to continue this hard work. I’m about 60ish lbs from where I think I want to be, which is under 200, and it finally feels like a realistic goal! Here’s to being sexy in Vegas. To all my fellow sleevers “We’ve got this”! HW - 306 SW - 298 CW - 259 GW - none (just to be under 200) Height - 5’8 1/2
  4. Okay I think I met the next people to be on Dr Oz's Show today in the doctor's office. I went in to get a slight unfill as I was too tight (took out .3cc). I met a very nice husband and wife couple who have both been Banded for 2 years. They looked like they had never been overweight in their whole life. We were talking about being banded and I was getting looks from the women like "have you had your surgery? really? What happen? Granted I am 169 but I was 253. When I told her I was here to get a small unfill she laughed at me “an unfill” I would NEVER get an unfill. We both stay as tight as we can and they were there for a fill. The women had been 136 lbs before the Band and her husband in the 170's She said she is never really hungry and when she is she gets so happy cause she knows she is losing weigh she now weighed in at 108 (really?) This is their diet: a small glass of juice in the morning and then for dinner they make vegtable stew and blend it up completly so it can go down no lunch. It takes her an hour to get down a bottle of water (really?) she added sometimes she can not get her own salivia down as band is too tight. She wants to be a tight as she can so nothing can go down, him also. She was still staring at me like no way could I have the band and still be so large? Well I have been in my size10 jeans for more than a year, thought I is was doing pretty good. When, I have just been through two weeks like that as after my last fill a month ago was great for 2 weeks But . . . 2 weeks later it kick in and no food, just water and watered down protien shakes I knew time for small unfill. I had lost 8 lbs in those two weeks but is was not fun, not normal. But after seeing her a small part of me wanted to run out of that office and get stuff for soup and some juice. I have been trying to lose 15 or 20 lbs for so long and I wanted to believe I could do the same for a while and hit goal. There was a young girl in the room with us who was just banded in Mexico and was there to get her first fill, she looked terrified. Aslo another women about my age was in the room and she just kept shaking her head at everyword they said. I tried to tell the young girl that was not what most people do, She got called for her fill and I never saw her again. When I got called I could feel 2 sets of eyes looking at my huge size 10 butt as I walked by. Not sure if they made it for their fill so she could keep gurgling night and day as I left them (alone) with the another lady and she was ready to kill. Cheri NOTE: these Doctors do fills for people Banded in Mexico. This was in Houston, Texas need the number message me
  5. Hi I am going to be flying in May 9 with my sx on May 10 at CER. Do you stay at the Mariott hotel?
  6. I was banded on Oct 3 and returned to work on Oct 9. I felt real good and was bored at home. I stand on my feet all day but I have been taking frequent breaks. Today is day 10 after surgery and I woke up with soreness around my port. I am going to work but my call it a short day. Is this soreness normal?

    Can I have some feedback?

Like Ava fern said, there is no reason why you can't physically eat and drink at the same time. You won't hurt anything. The only reason for the rule is that liquid will flush the food through your sleeve faster and you may feel hungry sooner, thus eat more. I'm 10 months out, maintaining 12 pounds below goal and I don't pay much attention to timing when I eat and drink. I just don't overeat. But it is a good rule to follow while you are losing and/or until you figure out how much to eat and still lose or maintain.
  8. who the heck said 10 thousand steps a day? some wacko?

    Getting sleeved in 6 days!

I'm 12 days post-op, and wanted you to know surgery was not bad. I had absolutely no nausea afterwards. They put Zofran in my iv and I was fine. I was driving and going out in a week. I've not had to take anything for nausea since I've been home either. You'll be fine! Keep us posted. 17 lbs gone in 10 days for me...

    Nicotine Testing

Mine did bloodwork.. I googled to see how long it takes to get nicotine out it only takes 3 to 4 days. But there is another chimical in cigarettes that takes 10 -15 days to get out of your system. Drink lots of Water to flush your system Sent from my LG-H343 using the BariatricPal App

Why the sleeve and not bypass?

I didn't want malabsorption, and I didn't like rerouting my intestines. I also wanted to be able to take NSAIDS if I needed them. Statistically, RNY results in about 10% more loss of excess weight, but you can lose 100% of excess weight with either surgery if you work at it.

    How to start the process

I did things ass backwards because that's my style. LOL first I sought out the surgeon Google search, word of mouth, location to home, and everything I could find on this surgeon to see if he was a safe bet and then I looked to see if my insurance covered it. I have Aetna so I was able to look up my benefits online and see what all was covered and thankfully it was. They also fast tracked me to a 90 day prep for surgery program because I was well over 40 BMI even though I had no known co morbidities and because I went to a Center of Excellence, I only paid 10% of the cost instead of the standard 20% I would normally have paid. I made the reservation for the seminar and went in and got all my questions answered and really by the end of that night I had scheduled my first nutritionist visit and first surgeon visit because I knew it was the right thing for me. After that, I had 4 visits total with the nutritionist, 1 psych eval with the in house psych, and 2 visits with the surgeon over the 90 days and then it went to insurance and was approved within 3 days and I had surgery a week later. It all happened so fast I didn't have time to panic or obsess about anything, which worked out just great.

Aw thank you [emoji5][emoji176] and congrats! 40 is amazing, increase your water (if you can) and try to only stick with proteins. Snack whenever but watch what your snacking. Anyone that’s says they don’t snack is lying so don’t worry about that. The first 12 months are crucial so just continue to do your best and always think about what you will look like months from now! That’s what I did, also what I did for my first year was make a personal monthly goal. My doctor said I would go down 10 every month I made sure to go down 12-15 or more if possible. So make monthly goals, watch carb intake and you will be fine!!!
  14. 7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage Cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up. F@#ck Food - is my attitude
  15. I got approved today for my surgery. Jan 14 is my date cuz the MD was booked until the end of the year. I have BCBS and it took 10 days for approval.
  16. I have to be honest 7 lbs a month seems very minimal to me, back 10 years ago I could loose 20-30 lbs in a month, of course I had only had one child and now I have three and I was younger and not well fat like I am now.. I guess I was so encouraged by these few I had talked to I just never looked for other answers, I have been told by my family dr that this will be wonderful and I will loose weight at a very fast pace, maybe he to has only looked at what is right in front of him. When I started seeing post of being 6 months out and loosing 30-40 lbs I panicked because I have already paid my deposit and I am having this, part of me can still close my eyes and see the me I will be this time next year but yes I am still discouraged after coming to the realization that I may not be one of the 100 lbs gone in 6 months or less and it does really put a damper on my outlook I had... Maybe with ad much willpower as I think I have I won't have a problem at all loosing it quickly.. I feel like if I can get 80-100 lbs off really fast then the rest will fly off, simply because ill be able to walk, jog, run without having to sit down every few minutes! I have had test run bc I was worried something was wrong with me medically but they found nothing, besides a little arthritis starting to show in my knees.. I was a volleyball player from school to YMCA at 22 years old, I want that again, badly!!! I guess I need to put my BIG girl panties on and pull them nice and high and get my head out of the black clouds of discouragement!! It happens especially when your family is negative like mine!! Thank you all for your words..

    All for nothing?

And you can talk to us, even when you feel like hitting your head against something, even when they build walls of brick that you feel like you can't surmount. We're here, many of us have battled against the many tentacled beast that is for-profit insurance in the USA in 2019. And quite a few have managed to win!

All this support is awesome! I'm also fresh out of surgery (2 days). FFmedicgrl, I'm sorry to hear about your throat pain. I've experienced that in other surgeries, and it's a terrible complication. Hopefully that part improves soon. I am having a hard time taking in liquid too, but it's because every time I do, my shoulders and chest start hurting terribly. Yesterday, I tried to get in an ounce of Gatorade every 10 minutes, but only reached about 12 ounces before it gave me bouts of diarrhea. Since then, I can take in very little without pain. Could I have messed something up yesterday?
  19. I had my surgery on 10/21/14. It took me many years to come to terms with the fact that I needed a little something more in the way of help to get the weight off. Now that I am on the other side of surgery I'm realizing this is harder than I could of ever imagined. I was 8 days out and was already tired of the protein shake! Now I'm on the pureed diet but am still required to drink 2 protein shakes a day. According to the plan I should be eating 3 protein meals, 2 protein shakes and a protein snack. Meals are 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup and if room is left I can add vegetables or fruit which I have absolutely no room for. On top of all this I'm supposed to be drinking 6-8 cups of water as well. I can only get in 2 protein meals, 2 shakes and maybe 2-2 1/2 cups of water. Now I find that I'm beginning to get dehydrated so today I've been forcing myself to drink more than I have been and I'm just very uncomfortable because my stomach is so full. Did anybody else have this issue? I'm on this meal plan until the day before Thanksgiving when I go back to see the nutritionist at the bariatric center. It's a whole new world mentally for me. I knew it would be hard and I keep on telling myself at the end of the meal plans that I will be back to eating the way I was when I began this journey. I had lost 50 lbs. before surgery just following the meal plan they gave me and I know I can handle that part it's just this time before I get back to that where I'm having trouble.
  20. Is it possible to go back to work 10 days after surgery? My work is not going to be strenuous, just meetings... Thoughts?
  21. I wa so nervous and there was nothing to it. I had lost 22lbs since surgery/ The NA met me at office b/c I live 2 hours away and she was about to go in to work at ER. She had me lay down and numb port are and then gave 3 ccs She pushed a little hard but found port very easily/ She said usually the 1st fill is not as much restriction. I go back on 12-12 for next fill. I hoper everyone had a nice holiday. On now to better things.:cursing: Kathy

    Regretting this

[quote name="Lisa ] I know exactly what you mean about just wanting veggie soup!! I remember just wanting to eat a carrot!!! Your frustration is completely normal!!! I swear I was so cranky and angry about not being able to eat that I felt like I could kill somebody!! LOL Isopure is not the best tasting thing in the world. My surgeon MADE ME drink 4 bottles of it before I was allowed to leave the hospital' date=' so once I got home, I nixed it from my diet!! What I ended up doing, was adding unflavored Isopure powder to my broth. I couldn't taste it at all and it kept the broth clear!! Have you tried SF hot chocolate (just mixed with water)?...and how about SF popsicles?...I think I went through a box of popsicles a day for the first 10 days!!! And even though, you're "supposed" to be getting your Protein in...don't stress about it!! Your hydration is way more important right now and, in time, you'll be able to tolerate more and more. And you aren't failing just because you're having a hard time. This journey is THE HARDEST thing I've ever done but it's also been the BEST THING I've ever done. Like others have said, keep your eye on the prize!! It's going to get easier. And once you start eating regular food, you won't think about it so much....your relationship with food will change [/quote'] LOL about the carrot!!!! I told my husband when I was on my preop liquid Protein diet that I wanted to stab him in the neck with a fork for a carrot. He looked at me pitifully and said, "you wouldn't have to get violent! I would have given it to you!"

    Pyschology Clearance Issue

I paid $50 for my psychiatrist to prepare the report. I asked him if he could just charge my insurance an extra half hour or something and he said that the insurance company would not pay it. My insurance company paid for the visit because I was due to see my psychiatrist anyway to get my meds refilled. I paid the $10 copay for the office visit and the $50 fee that the psychiatrist charged me to prepare and fax the letter. So, $60 out of pocket seems reasonable to me.

    Just broke into 10's!!!!!!

You have to wait a little for cloud 9, you are on cloud 10 right now :-) Good job! I was at Marshall's a couple of days ago and oogling the bathing suits. I feel it is too early for me to buy any because I am not sure how much coverage I need over my thighs - if I have a big flap on the inside, I'd better go with a bottom that has a cut like bike pants. Same with the top, do I need a loose fitting top to cover flaps or can I use a tighter top without looking like someone through jell-o in my top? But I have to admit, those are uncertainties that I can live with compared to before where buying a bathing suit put me in agony!
  25. Morning all So I'm having an issue with my psychology clearance. I met with the shrink for all of 12 minutes and paid my $50 copay. No big deal, it had to happen. He told me there would be a small fee for him preparing the report. At the time I thought that was odd, but hey, a small fee I was thinking like $10 so whatever. However, his office just called me to tell me that he had prepared the report for my surgeon over the weekend and they wouldn't fax it to then until I had paid the $60 fee for him preparing the report. This doesn't seem right. He has to prepare that report to put in my chart anyway, so basically they want me to pay $60 additional dollars for them to fax it? Does this seem reasonable? I have a copy in my hand.. I'm thinking about calling and stopping payment on the report. Did you guys encounter anything like this?
