ok so i reallllly need to vent and im so lost and confused. so i have insurance through my mom. My surgery is scheduled for May 10th. She just text me letting me know her company had a meeting today and they will be letting 24 people go and they will receive their notice of who it is on April 26th. april 26!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why?! i dont know how all this works. will her company give her a "grace period" of coverage and if so how long? im so frustrated. i called the surgeons office and explained to them whats going on they said if i need to schedule it sooner they can move up and just to let them know asap. bc if i get it done on the 26th id have to start my liquid diet asap. im so unprepared for things im gonna need. my boyfriend was going to help me out with things and hes busting his butt as his job trying to get overtime in. and to top it off the reason y i scheduled it for may 10th was to give me time bc the insurance will pay 90% and im responsible for 10% upfront. so now im like great. and bc im getting this surgery i might lose my job. i took me 2 yrs to find a job and now i got a great one but ive only been here 2 months and i doubt theyd be ok with me asking for 2-3 weeks down time.

Welcome Jaslady! Thought I would be so much more sore today than I actually am, just slightly sore in my knees and hips again, but a good sore! Can't wait for Saturday! Oh yeah, I think I mentioned it 10 times already, but I'm repeating week 1 at least once.:nervous

Hey guys! Don't compare yourself to other 'loser's'. We will all lose at different paces. I am about 4 1/2 months out and stalled yet again. Oh, and I GAIN! I have a 3 pound gain right now. I only lose about 10 per month after the first month or so. Yes I am a turtle. Yes I am frustrated. Yes I am silently panicking inside but I know it will come off. Well, it least it better! Just keep doing what you are doing. I know I need more exercise right now. I had work travel last week and it threw me way off but back on the horse. Hang in there!!!

6Months Post-op, check in!
BobbieVSG replied to BobbieVSG's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I lost 26lbs on my 2 week pre-op diet and the rest since. I now loose around 10-14lbs a month. I eat 3 meals and 2 healthy Snacks a day as that's what my stomach allows. I get in 60g of Protein most the time but obviously days it can be hard and I'm drinking plenty especially when I'm working out.. I think everyone is different and my nutritionist said I'm doing great so I don't think it'll cause a weight re-gain in the future as I had countless classes years leading up to the operation and I've done well learning how my body is reacting to everything. This may not have been a negative comment but I just thought I'd be clear that I done my research way before the operation and I'm still learning so it's all good oh and I'm the same with sweet things, can't tolerate it at all! Worth it though. -
This is too funny. I have 3 girls and 1 boy. My son's penis is a wee wee and my youngest daughters vagina is a private. My oldest daughter who is 19 called it a china when she was little because thats what she thought i said, when i said vagina. I opted not to get my son circumsized when he was born, only because i felt bad to do that to him.. the hospital where he was born at didnt use any numbing agents, and i just thought of how that would burn and sting whenever he pee'd, so, i figured, God made him that way, so that way he shall stay. And we havent had any problems. He keeps it clean and everythings fine.

Two Week Update.... Tolerable Foods, Meal/water Schedule, The Up/down Side :(
Jadesatin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there ladies and Gents.. WELL I MADE IT !!! TWO WEEKS WITH NOTHING SOLID TO BITE... UGHHHHHH... The "BAD PART" for this week. The second week without food was the hardest I have to admit. I got through the first week fine b/c it was hard enough getting down the shake and alloted amount of Water that I had no interest in solid foods. Come week two... OMG it was all I could think about. I kept begging my hubby " Just ONE BITE" it's not going to kill me. Well, I spoke with my nurse and one bite of the WRONG thing could have landed me in the hospital b/c it could have gotten stuck in my swelled stomach. SO I had to stay away from solids which made it that much harder. I thought about my "FIRST MEAL" about as much as I thought about my "LAST MEAL" before the surgery. I FINALLY crashed on Thursday and BOY did I knock out. Thank goodness I have a good understanding job. The stress from the whole past week and surgery finally caught up on me but other than that I have been FULL of energy like crazy !!! THE GOOD : I was no longer swollen and the only "sting" I felt was in my largest 2 incisions and that was because they were healing. I have been monitoring them like crazy b/c they are healing and are actually itching a bit. I just rub them lightly over my shirt and it goes away. The FOOD: Ok I cheated a few times in the past week. I had ONE Perogie and 3 small slices of Kelbasi. Went down fine but I had to chew it forever and ever. Tiny pieces worked ok. ( I used to have 5 perogies and about 20 slices of Kelbasi !!). I had half of a Dannon Lit & Fit and that went down fine, but I was stuffed after only 3 oz. I had 3/4 of ONE baby bagel bite and felt like I just ate at a chinese buffet. It was sooo gross ( the bread was too much) I had LITERALLY two " NORMAL" bites of London Broil cut up into 6 tiny bites and I thought I would DIE !! ! The "BEEF" was stuck in my esophogus/stomach all day until the next evening. I forgot we can ONLY EAT MOIST meats and when they say stay away from beef take their word for it. It is SOOOOO not worth it !!! FIRST MEAL !! lol : I chose to have Talapia. I chose a .94 oz pack of Talapia, froze half of it and made the other half. I swore I would eat the whole fillet and LOVE it. I sauteed it in a little butter with some flavor on it. I sat down all ready to eat it and don't you know... I could only finish 3/4 of ONE fillet. I was full before I knew it. Now I know I have to split up my mini little 3oz of Protein into a lunch serving and a dinner serving b/c it was too much at one time. WEIGHT: Well I wish I could say I lost another 14 pounds this week, but I lost only 2 pounds. BUT before you feel bad for me... my size 22 pants can now be pulled off of me with the button/ zipper closed.... my size 20 pants look like I am a baggy pants wearing rapper.... AND the size 18 pants that were so tight they stretched across my thighs now fit a bit big by the end of the day. SOOOO.. we can't always live by the scale. I can wear pants that I would NEVER have been able to fit in before AND I can see my toes without bending over. WOO HOO !!! That's an accomplishment in my book !!! Hope you all enjoyed my update. Any 2 week questions feel free to post.... OH my intake schedule to get it ALL in with Protein and water: I make my shake the night before so it tastes more like a pre made Protein Shake. Each item is approximately 3-4 oz. 7am shake with Multi-Vitamins, Actigall ( for gall bladder), Pepsid ( for acid ) 8:00 water 8:30 water 9:00 water 9:30 water 10:00 shake with Second Multi Vitamin 11:00 water 11:30 water 12:00 water 12:30 water 1:00 broth ( less fulling so I have water sooner after) with Calcium, Actigal, Pepsid 1:30 water 2:00 water 2:30 water 3:00 water 3:30 shake with Calcium 4:30 water 5:00 water 5:30 water 6:00 water 6:30 shake 7:30 water 8:00 water 8:30 water 9:00 water 9:30 sugar free ice Pop 10:00 water 11:00 Last shake with Calcium and Lyrica ( I have Fibromyalgia) By now you have consumed : 2 scoops of Protein powder in 15-16 oz 1%milk 63 oz of water (w crystal lite) plus water in broth and ice from shake PLUS one tasty Sugar Free Ice Pop treat !! Good Luck and Enjoy !!! -
4 days post-op (bypass)
miss_smiles replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL agreed fellow New Yorker!! Some people just don't know how to answer the question. And ironically enough, although I do not 100% the answer to your question, I'm having my surgery next week for a revision sleeve to bypass. maybe we can stay in touch?! What i can tell you though, is when i had the sleeve I could barely drink the recommended 64oz daily. I would try to sip every 10 minutes but it was soooo uncomfortable. It would take me an entire day like this to even hit my fluid intake. -

oherin replied to lalmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i add half a banana to mine and it seems to be no problem. i put it in a blender though. also, try adding a little bit of pudding. it makes the shake taste SO much better. what kind of Protein are you using at the moment? i would suggest going to walmart, getting jillian michaels whey protein. you get a tub for 10 bucks and its pretty good. do you add Water or milk when you mix it? heres what we do jillian michaels vanilla whey protein + ice + milk + pudding + half a banana = some good stuff! -
Having Trouble And Discourged
amy0501 replied to beth423's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery May 1 & down 19 lbs! I came home on puréed food. I'm not sure why you gained weight on puréed? Was it high fat? I think you're doing a GREAT job getting your protien in. I'm still struggling getting it all in. I lost 13 lbs the first week & it's leveled off to 3-4 week, which I think is more attainable. Don't be frustrated. It's not a quick fix. It will take time. Be strong. -
How much weight is too much
Frustr8 replied to harley66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And folks I'll weigh also. I am 5ft 8in , according to BMI AND former surgeon my goal should be 138 based also on body frame size. That ain't gonna happen, not even on a sunny day. My personal dream goal is 175/size15 Junior, I'm actually an overgrown Junior, a C cup, don't have the bustiness regular and woman/misses require. I would accept anything below 198, at 72 borderline anorexia isn't good for me, I am a presurgical 321, and before anyone asks I HAVE lost over 10% of my highest weight so I am trying as hard as people 1/2 my age, I just have the BMR of a 🐛slug on antidepressants, I still make my slime trail but it's about an inch an hour. -
Working Hard Before Surgery is Paying Off...
RaleighGal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have taken the past several months before my surgery (November 2011) to really focus on me and get in the habit of exercising and eating better when I wait for the 6 month insurance required waiting period. I hit a huge milestone this morning that I have to share. I stepped on the scale and it read 299.7. I stepped off and got on again and it still read 299.7. Was I really finally under 300lbs??? I have not been under 300lbs in about 10 years. I stood, looking in the mirror watching the tears of joy run down my face. I felt proud and excited. I cannot wait to feel many more of these moments as the weight continues to come off. I hope to lose another 10lbs before my surgery mid November. -

If you don't get an answer here, try joining the Yahoo Group for Kaiser Nor Cal Bariatric and ask there: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients/ I don't have an answer for you. I went through Kaiser Fremont two years ago. After I got to surgery goal weight (loss of 10%), it took 6 weeks till surgery date. Lynda -

Suggestions For A Good Pre-Op(Pre-Liquid) Diet To Lose Weight Before Being Considered For Surgery?
vanb0052 replied to Anjelika's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
My diet during my 3 months of visits with the NUT consisted of 3 meals, with 3 oz of lean meat, veggies and a fruit. No snacking between meals, but was allowed a glass of milk 3 times a day, and I supplemented one of those with some Protein powder. I'm down 40 lbs (little over 10% of my TBW) since my first NUT visit in January. My bariatric center didn't make me lose weight, but they wanted me to start changing my lifestyle so I'd be successful after surgery. I say any diet will work for you, as long as you are determined to make it work! Good luck -
What should I expect?
Astrasmom replied to sweet Noelani's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's good that you are reading about the band before you get yours done. Yes there are complications as there is with any type of operation. However they don't happen to everyone. The complications with lapband are far less than the advantages of the band. I have only one regret myself and that is that I didn't get it done sooner. Other than that I have had no problems at all. I was banded 10/23/09 and am down 78lbs so far. I'm loving my new life. What you should expect after surgery. Yes you will be sore for a few days. But they give you pain pills and I suggest using them. I wouldn't necessarily say that you are in excruciating pain. If you have ever had your gallbladder out it is less painful then that. I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work on Tuesday the following week. If you work, depending on what you do, you may also. If you have a desk job you should be able to return. If you are on your feet or you have to lift, I would suggest taking more time. If you have small children that you have to lift, you will need help with them. You won't be able to lift anything for 6 weeks. You will be on liquids for a couple weeks and then onto mushies. You will probably experience some gas pains after surgery because of the air that they pump into you when they are operating so they can clearly see inside of you. To help with this you will need to walk as much as you can after surgery and taking Gas-X strips help. You will probably not feel very hungry for the first week after your surgery but you have to force yourself to get the fluids down so you don't dehydrate. Once the swelling goes down you will find yourself getting hungry. The procedure itself takes about an hour. It's normal to be nervous and it's normal to be afraid. Keep reading and asking questions. You are in the right place. You can read my blog. It might help you a little. Good luck and if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask. -
Hey guys! My surgery was 7/13/11 and I have been in AGONY ever since! Today was the first day the gas pains didn't kick my ass! Lol. I'll tell my surgery story in the post op section, but the good thing is that I'm down 10 lbs since Wednesday. I started at 248, now I'm 238.4 lbs. Just a forewarning, you really don't understand how much you CANT drink after surgery. I've had this one Water bottle I've sipped on for three days, and this 1cup of Jello, but I'm not even hungry! I dreamed about a bag of cheetos last night, lol! Good luck to u all!

Hi, my name is Kim-I'm new
lynh564 replied to Kim in Cary NC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Kim, I was banded on 4/5/10. I have had my share of ups and downs but the band was the best decision I have made for myself. I lost my father at the end of August and he was very young, only 66. It was unexpected and there was a lot of drama with my family. It was a very rough time but I did not let myself slide into bad habits. I kept my eating and exersice a priority. You can do this. Log what you eat and get moving with some exercise. I exercise 5-6 times per week. I started out slowly so as not to burn out, as I have done that in the past. I am not perfect but I strive to eat like a bandster 90% of the time. I also recommend some sort of support group. I do an online support group that emails digests every day. I read them everyday. I don't always post but I do read becasue it keeps me thinking about how to use my tool. The group that I am part of is a yahoo group called SmartBandsters. It's a great group. They recommend the Shrink Yourself program http://www.shrinkyourself.com/?404;http://www.shrinkyourself.com:80/obsession?gclid=CMON3YLZ9KYCFRJY2godVX9ADQ&bhcp=1. This will help you with emotional eating. You can do this - you just have to take the steps to make it work. -
Questions, Questions, So Many Questions
Pink Butterfly replied to dlinnh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello Everyone I just joined. My date was Nov 15 I am about 10 days post op. Doing well. Very hard to get all the fluids in. Had to stay in the hospital for 2 days as they found a hernia that was also removed. I live in Maui but flew to San Fransico to have it done as there are no weightloss programs here. Was extremely nervous woke up waiting for the pain to come except for my back I did not have any. Jana we have the same op date. I am not planning to go back to work for another week or two. Trying to get in the swing of things. I work 10-14 hour days and wondering if I can keep up. So want to make sure I am ready. Diane loved your posts. I actually went to a weight loss seminar in Fla two years ago but was scared away by all the people shoving chips and candy while gasping for air... I could not get out of there fast enough. I was so confused by the fact hello your at weight loss surgery seminar and you cant wait 30 minutes to eat? It depressed the hell out of me. I only started looking into again when I saw a freind who did RYN and how awesome she looked went to my first apointment in Sept and had the sleeve done in Nov it was FAST! Good luck to all of you. I have been wondering how people are doing there is not a group here. What do you eat? I am on 400 cal 70 gram Protein Are you hungry? I am sometimes I worry did they really do it. I dont know what my full feels like yet but it is hard to drink a lot Lets stay in touch would love to see how we are all doing!! Go November Sleevers! Julie -
First, good luck this morning at your scan! Hopefully it is just the healing process and at the very least a little infection that anti-biotics will cure! I know exactly what the burning feeling is-my surgery was on 10/11/12- home a day early and by day 4, was feeling great. Burn only after a hard sneeze or cough...until I returned to work Monday 10/22/12-OMG, by the end if the day, the burning was back (I still have it to a lesser degree!). Went to my surgeon as area felt warm to the touch-very scared I tore something. I was fine, muscles are still healing from laproscopic tools (plus I had a bad hiatal hernia repaired!) I'm taking vicodin for the pain. At work I twisted, stretched and got up and down too much stressing the tissue trying to recover and heal. I'm supposed to go back Monday-I'm scared to give myself yet another setback. Take my advise-don't go back to work too soon-not worth it! Take care!

My surgery is Monday April 6th
LeeRN replied to MPerkins's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had the sleeve on April 6th as well. Doing ok except I'm still learning when to take that last bite. It seems a few times I ate a bite or more than I should have and oh my poor stomach. It's almost 3 pm today and all I had is maybe 10 sips of a banana, yogurt and peanut butter smoothie with soy protein powder and I feel stuffed. I can't even drink. I'm afraid I'll become dehydrated some day because it's hard to get in the amount of water expected of me. Good luck and keep us april sleeves updated on your progress. -
Questions, Questions, So Many Questions
SueMonte replied to dlinnh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone, I am new to the site here, still trying to figure out how everything works! Had my sleeve done on 11/19. Started my journey at 281 and am down to 249 as of today. So excited about life and finally shedding this weight that has plagued me for more than half of my life. Surgery went very well, was in the hospital for two days following surgery. No nausea after the recovery room until today. Wiped me right out too. Put on a pair of dress pants (that fit and look nice!) for the first time since surgery and I guess they put too much pressure on my stomach because I started having a rapid heart beat and felt extremely ill with a lot of pain after drinking half of my Protein Shake. The pants didn't bother me before that. My stomach must still be swollen to some degree so lesson learned, do not wear anything that feels even the slightest bit snug around the waist yet! Anyone else having trouble trying to get in their daily Protein amounts? I hit 67 grams yesterday and was able to tolerate 6 cups of Water throughout the day. Maybe my tummy is upset with me from all of that yesterday :/ Anyway, tomorrow is a new day. Back on the band wagon to get my protein and liquids in. My post-op visit is next week, can hardly wait to start eating a larger variety of foods other than full liquids. I haven't been hungry since the surgery but food sure does smell good to me...guess that doesn't go away huh? Nice to read everyones posts so far. Good luck to all of us and may each one of us reach our goal weight!!!!! -
I appreciate you posting this. I am 10 days post vsg & feel the exact same thing! Please keep us updated!

Finally!! 100 pounds gone.
Twinkles replied to Startingoverat50's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost what I think is quit a bit in not that much time (77 pounds and banded 7/29/10, 20 weeks out). I can tell you for me exercise is a MUST. No bones about it, I exercise like my ass is on fire and I have to to keep up this pace of weight loss. I run or get on the TreadClimber 6 days a week (3 days on, 1 day off). I've also cut out a lot of white in my diet, no breads, no Pasta, very low on the carbs and super high on the Protein. I do feel way better for it, that is for sure!
