I am 4 months post VSG and down 50 lbs but have had unreasonable sugar cravings in the past week that I have given in to - eating hard candy, drinking small amounts of alcohol, part of a bagel, and today I got a frozen yogurt with crushed up butterfinger in it and ate about 1/2 cup and got so sick - vomited multiple times. Why am I doing this to myself? It's almost like I am testing the limits to see what I can "get away with" which is ridiculous since I KNOW that this isn't good for me long term. I am so close to being under 200 lbs for the first time in over 10 yrs. am I intentionally sabotaging myself? WTF is wrong with me?

Thinking about a small unfill
patsal replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, I just called and they are going to squeeze me in at 11 tomorrow. I pretty much figure I should not be PBing on baby spoons of yogurt! I thought I could tough it out, but after reading about the majority of problems stemming from too tight bands I figured I shouldn't wait. My protein has been low so I went back to unflavored protein powder mixed with water and crystal light. Vacation is a month away and I really do not want to be spending the time I would ordinarily spend eating looking at the lovely restrooms! I'll update after the outcome of my appt. tomorrow. -
I am 4 days out also and I feel great. I have had more energy today but I started my supplements today so I don't know if they had anything to do with it. I went to the grocery store today with my husband and felt pretty good walking around. It's hard to believe I just had major surgery!!! Have you been hungry?? I feel like I have to eat every hour. Today I had yogurt with some fruit blended in it and some split pea soup that I put in the blender and that kept me full longer. I just find it weird that my stomach had been growling.

Help and support needed!
muggzz replied to Jessica _ Stephens's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
am so totally frustrated ! Maybe someone can clarify for me. I am 4 weeks postop, eating soft foods...turkey,puréed Soup yogurt, cottage cheese, Baby Bells, etc. I take in about 450 to 550 calories, 40-60 g of protein and most days drink 36oz water (sometimes a little more) and I have not lost any weight in 3 weeks since my first doctors apt a week after surgery. I cannot believe I went threw all this and feel like such a failure. What should I do ?! -
Looking for a sensible Breakfast idea!
Baconville replied to kparadisek's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For a faster breakfast I like Greek Yogurt with a Tablespoon of ground flax seed. I like Dannon Lite & Fit. 13 grams of protein, low in sugar. -
Thanks everyone. For example, my doctor got irritated with me because I had greek yogurt for Breakfast (during one of our conversations at the fill). He said, "no, no....that's a slider food. you should be doing sausage and eggs for breakfast" That's all well and good, but of course, sausage is full of fat. And, I normally don't eat breakfast until I am hungry.

4months post op at a standstill super confused. Feeling like a failure
NurseRosemary replied to NurseRosemary's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The thing is I don't drink protein shakes at all and I drink literally nothing but water(which grosses me out at times) at least 5bottles a day. Crystal light makes me more thirsty so I don't use them, just plain water, recently had labs drawn and my pcp said everything came back normal. She basically told me to eat steak and chicken and to stay away from yogurt etc. I've lost 52 pounds and I'm 4 months post op, I know everyone is different but I saw one lady post she lost 110 lbs in 5 months so I'm thinking what the heck am I doing wrong. I guess I'm stuck at should I not eat at all if I'm not hungry? Or eat anyway? I'm usually only hungry in the morning and I'll have 1egg. Thank you all for your feedback -
The soup isn't too shocking, it's liquid, similar to yogurt. I can eat far more yogurt than dense protein. I ate a 5.3oz cup of yogurt this morning and was still hungry. For lunch I ate 2-2.5oz of meat and was full for hours. I can drink way over a cup an hour of water and I don't eat soup but if I did it would be the same. If you are following your "rules" sticking to the consistency recommended, starting with protein and eating vegetables if still hungry, taking your time, drinking a minimum of 65oz of water a day and taking in a minimum of 60g of protein a day and most importantly avoiding sliders than you are good. Maybe your loss isn't what you hoped for, but even if you are losing 2# a week you are doing great. Just stay consistent, watch your empty calories and sliders, stay hydrated and follow your rules. If you have access to a nutritionist utilize them, document on my fitness pal and get friends off here so you can see their food journals.

2 weeks post-op - surgeon said I’m cleared to eat all soft foods so long as I chew well!?!
merriw replied to Once Upon a Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeons office had me on solids by week 2 and my body was sooo not ready !!!! Take it slow and don’t rush it . Start with triple zero yogurt for a couple weeks . That was my biggest mistake even though my dr said I could eat tuna and egg salad I definitely had dumping . I’m 10 months out now and down 90 pounds . Couldn’t be. Happier !! -

You need to make your meals count. You are early out so Protein shakes are still a viable option. Greek yogurt (Fage) has lots of protein per ounce also cottage cheese. -
Thought I'd share my discovery... I'm on day 4 of the pre op high Protein shake liquid diet. It's definitely challenging and quite a change from eating mindlessly for so long. I wanted to share some things I've discovered regarding the shakes. The shakes when Blended (ninja) can be really nasty to me. I have a box of unflavored and chocolate, I do a scoop of each with a lot of Water and 4 to 6 ounces of plain kefir and it is really drinkable! The tartness of the yogurt cuts down the sweetness from the Protein Powder . Sometimes I throw in a little bit of fruit and spinach as well. I also like my coffee hot not lukewarm ...but they say you can't mix protein with hot liquids because the texture changes, this is true. however... I found an awesome way to drink hot coffee with the protein and the same should hold true for Soups. I slowly slowly mixed two scoops of my protein powder into about 16 ounces of warm coffee I use the thermometer it was about 120 degrees comma if I poured too much protein it would come if I really took my time and adding a little bit it wouldn't call, once I managed to mix my two scoops with no clumps, I then I threw in the microwave for 40 seconds. it became really hot and smooth, no clumps!! I can't believe I've never read this everything on the instructions and everyone says that protein cannot be mixed with hot water but why didn't anyone ever think that we can just reheat it? Maybe this can help someone that likes Hot things like me. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Oh dear.. didn't your doctor give you a list of foods you could eat at the different stages of your healing? You are in stage one, week 1 - 3. This is liquids time, as soon as you can hold down Clear Liquids you can try to add in full liquids, such as milk, proetin shakes, slim fast, tomato Soup, cream Soups, and yogurts .. nothing with chunks though. Weeks 4 - 6 you move to soft or mushie foods. Baby food, cottage cheese, pureed meats, flakey fish, anything soft and mushie that is easily chewed to nothing before swallowing. I have tuna with 2 tbs of fat free dressing in mine to make it more moist. Take small bites, eat slowly (15 mins per meal) and chew, chew, chew. In week 6 we begin to add more foods, but one at a time so if we have any problems we can identify which food it was. Although, from what I hear, you might have trouble with chicken one day and the next day be fine with it. I keep my servings to 1/2 Cup. Note: This is what MY doctor has ME on. If you can contact your doctor you might ask what he or she recommends. If not, this is a fairly good rule of thumb that you should be safe following. And you should be getting in about 60 grams of Protein per day. Most people experience problems with pastas, soft breads, hamburger, steak and dry turkey or fish. Bread type products tend to be gooey in the stomach and stick together making them hard to get through the band. Hamburger and steak are tougher, stringier meats that often can't be chewed into small enough pieces. You can try any of these after your six weeks, but just be aware that they are known to cause PBs in a lot of people. Make sure your chicken, turkey or fish is very moist. Some use sauces on the meat for moisture.. if you do, be aware of the calories you are adding on. Hope this helps. And again, check with your own doctor first. It is always best to follow what your doctors orders for you.

Hello, @lost. Congrats on your journey. This process is different for everyone as i read most post. I had to do classes for 3months one day a week. See a cardiologist, psychologist, psychiatrist, have a swallow evaluation, run several blood test, also a stool specimen amoung other things before i had my surgery 2months ago. I am also a diabetic. I was weak at times during my clear liquid diet. I ate regular yogurt, jello, and popsicle a few times a day whenever my sugar started to get to low. But the protein shake that you should be drinking also should help. This surgery changes the need for the amount of insulin, if u are on insulin, you will need. I, myself no longer need insulin. Just remember to follow your dr and nut instructions. You will do well. I lost 44lbs in 7weeks. Started 239 August 5th,2015. 229August 12th day of surgery, now i am 195lbs????

Same here. Four years post surgery. I went to 160, now at 190 two years. I could not eat any less. No carbs in my household. Feel bloated constantly, feel I am getting fat in my upper body I never had, including stomach. Tried an organic clean diet and gained weight. Typical day is yogurt, boiled egg, cheese stick, cabbage salad, piece of protein meat for dinner. Lost so much hair I don’t want to go back for more surgery. Had to take Thiamine injections six months. Feeling screwed.

I had lap band surgery in February this year (2008). I am 5'10" and weighed 298 and am now down to 199. Things were good for the first 5 months and I was able to eat most foods in moderation with very little problems. There wasn't much I couldn't eat but I ate smaller portions. I have had 4 fills and think the last one may have made me too tight but I am afraid of getting an unfill or if there is another type of problem wrong with me. I am drinking plenty of liquids and have never got dehydrated. I hardly eat anymore because solid foods come back up and I get full after a few bites. Breakfast consists of either yogurt, oatmeal or Cereal. lunch consists of Soup, applesauce, Meal Replacement or crackers. dinner consists of fish, hamburger, Beans, cheese, salad or string beans I stay with soft liquidy type foods becacause just about any other type of food comes back up. I throw up once a day when I try and eat dinner. The food comes up in waves. I first throw up things that are hardly digested. Then I start salivating and throw up some more. Then the rest is saliva. I hardly ever feel really hungry anymore and need very little to feel full. I am not able to eat a big variety of foods and throw up once a day when I try and eat more solid foods. Afraid that throwing up every day will cause a problem. I am eating around 700-800 calories a day but am drinking plenty of fluids, exercise often and don't feel hungry or tired. Don't feel like I am eating a well balanced meal and not getting enough Protein. Has anyone else experience this? Should I be concerned? Is my band too tight? Could my band have slipped? I just don't know what to do and am a little scared. :w00t: I have a good doctor but am afraid to talk to him about this and don't know why. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

How many calories post op
Sullie06 replied to snapy17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still supplementing so 40 grams comes from my protein drinks, I use the Lift Protein by Atkins and it's not bad. I drink 2 a day at 20g of protein. For breakfast I typically eat greek yogurt. I do the Triple Zero so that give 15 grams of protein. For lunch I usually bring left overs from the night before or do lunch meat and cheese combo for about 15 grams. Dinner typically is some sort of lean meat and veggies. Examples of what I eat are baked or grilled balsamic chicken, Lemon grilled chicken, roasted turkey breast, homemade tuna salad with no bread, homemade burgers with no bun, chili (either ground beef or ground turkey) or meatloaf. Sometimes we do "tacos" with no shell or with a carb balance tortilla. I do a lot of low fat cheese in my meals so that boosts the protein count. My veggies I tend to stick to green veggies like broccoli, brussel sprouts and grilled squash and onions. -
I run the turkey day 5K each year since surgery. It's my new Thanksgiving tradition. The holiday is not all about the food anymore. It's family and friends, being thankful, living life and having new experiences. Not having a food coma every year is an amazing feeling. No weight gain guilt. Food plan: turkey, steamed french green beans with bacon and sliced almonds, roasted pumpkin, cranberries and apple. Desert is dannon light n fit pumpkin pie yogurt with 2 oz vanilla halo top ice cream. I plan ahead at potlucks. I bring deviled eggs or a meat and cheese plate. I make sure there is something I can eat. I pack my meals for work with healthy sweet and salty options.

Strawberry "Shake" Smoothie Recipe
Yvette1026 commented on Yvette1026's blog entry in How I lost 100lbs
Understandable some of this is new to me too.. Do you have a Whole Foods Market where you live? Or Sprouts Market? Or Trader Joe's? - You would want to go to a healthy grocery store type of place. Fage is a brand of greek yogurt. It's a good brand because it's very low in sugar and carbs and VERY high in protein. Unlike most yogurts, it's important to check your carbs and sugars as not all yogurts are created equal. As for the agave nectar it's kinda like honey, but it comes from the agave catus - it's a natural sweetener that fits into the low glycemic index. More calories than sugar per tablespoon but much better for you. Both are available at the Whole Foods Market type of stores. -
Will I be able to sallow medication
Thora replied to Nancy Ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take 500 mg metformin tablets twice a day. I was banded on the 17th. I spoke to my pharmasist and he said I could crush my meds. I crush the metformin and eat it with my daily yogurt. Nasty, Nasty, and Nasty. I gag when I put the spoon in my mouth. Now I sprinkle some on my spoon and put some yogurt on it and do this about 5 times before I have the whole thing injested. All other meds I take whole. But the important thing is to consult your pharmacy prior to your surgery and see what can be crushed. I'm hoping after the weight starts coming off I can go to a small dose. -
trying to do right!
Kelly Gonzalez replied to northtexasslim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me it's important to get 100 gms of protein in the beginning. I do a double scoop of whey protein (30gms a scoop), for breakfast, and then I eat high protein yogurts 14gms of protein maybe 2-3 a day, and try to eat a little meat (chicken, turkey) It's not easy doing the shake, but I do it with a little almond milk, and a little skim milk, and I make it around 7 a.m, and then put it into a container, and just every once in a while will take it out of fridge, and drink a couple of mouthfuls (it's the hardest part of my morning) but I don't want it to linger on through the day, so I just get it over with. the more you can get in to you (which isn't much) the easier the weight comes off, because your body isn't in starvation mode. Good luck, hope it all works out! -
Can i eat pureed food early if its doesnt yrt my stomach?
sharonintx replied to lwilliams65's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I don't know that this will be a popular reply to this question, but here's the truth anyway. I am 1 week post op. The Dr told me clear liquids for 2 weeks, puree for 2 more weeks, and then to soft foods. I don't like clear liquids. They suck. I started eating some yogurt on about day 4. No problems. Yesterday I ate some cream of wheat and felt much better. Today my entire family went to a restaurant. I went to the buffet and put some mashed potatoes, green beans, baked chicken, and macaroni on my plate. I took tiny little bites and chewed everything to death. I probably ate about an ounce and a half of food. I feel much better having had something and I do not feel sick or too full. Tomorrow I plan on taking two or three bites of soft scrambled eggs. No it's not on the plan. I tend to think that everyone tolerates things on an individual level. A little common sense and listening to the signs your body gives you will go a long way in determining what you can eat and when. Just saying. -
Surgery date! 10/19
lizonaplane replied to Rozzjozz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get some protein shakes, broth soups, and other liquids you're permitted to eat/drink for the first week after surgery because you will not be able to lift much and these are heavy to get at the store. I ate a lot of Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt because it is high protein. I ate the flavors that didn't have "fruit bits" in them (vanilla, toasted coconut vanilla, caramel, boston creme, banana...). I also strained Tom Yum and Hot and Sour soups I bought from restaurants nearby and this was amazing, because I didn't care for canned broth at all (yes, I could have made my own broth, but I need more flavor than broth provides). Start walking at least 10-15 minutes a few times a day, even just a slow pace. I was told it helps with recovery. Maybe buy some water flavor packets (stuff like crystal light, although I personally don't like that brand). Make sure it doesn't have caffeine, as some flavors do. We aren't permitted caffeine 2 weeks before to 4 weeks after surgery. Do all your laundry, cleaning, and dishes before your surgery, as this is hard to do right after surgery, as bending is hard. Get all the prescriptions you need. Taking pills after surgery is harder, but can be done. -
Hi all, I'm a new member. Im having a problem disgesting everything except water and yogurt. How long does this usally last and when are you able to add more to your food intake. I'm hungry!
