I made lots of eggs, chicken in a can, oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, soup. I also made fish and used the Atkins bake mix to make low carb no sugar pancakes with sugar free syrup... I would search online for recipes

Have you tried Isopure? They have some good favors, sip on it through the day, 40g protein in the bottle. Also unjury, they have un-flavored that you could mix into yogurt or creamed Soup. Good luck!

I have gone thru the same thing. What has helped me is Isopure drinks add crystal lite and it changes the flavor but now have no problem getting in my water or protein. Isopure has 40 grams of protein. I pour Isopure in a 32 oz bottle, crystal lite and add water to 32 oz. mark. Another is I take 1.4 c of fat free greek yogurt and a snack pack of sf vanilla pudding stir together and add pumpkin pie spice to add some more flavor. But try and stay with what the doctors tell you to eat so you won't harm your stomach. -
@@tamtam75 My name is Tammy too ???????????? I had my surgery on December 2nd and have loss 18 pounds so far. I haven't tried adding yogurt to my protein shakes but thinking about doing so. Congrats on your weigh loss so far.

I was sleeved on the 21st, and I'm having a terrible time with Water. I used to only drink when I felt thirsty, so it's hard for me to get the 64 oz. Plus water makes my tummy all gurgly. I'm focusing on my Protein (greek yogurt has been my savior) but I know I'm nowhere near what I'm supposed to take in. ~*~Heather~*~

Okay.....just had surgery 2-4, did fine, feel pretty good, on full liquids, trying to drink water etc.....my question is, when I came home from the hospital I was up 10 pounds! --- as of today 2-7-09 I am still 4 pounds heavier than my weight before the surgery at the hospital...initially I thought it was fluid retention from the operation, but enough is enough, I am eating (or should I say - drinking) very little, today I had water about 20 oz, yogurt, and a little tomato soup...I'm not really hungry, but did anyone else experience weight gain right after surgery?
-
haha, I should have been more specific. 4 protein shakes a day, 1/2 cups of broth, jello, 6 oz of greek yogurt (no fruit chunks), pudding (sf), and tomato juice(which I hate). But, no solid foods. The greek yogurt is by far my best friend.

Surgery Scheduled For April 12Th!
NWgirl replied to Passionatehrt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jay Robb is usually said to be the best tasting whey Protein. I stocked up on a lot of broths before my surgery, and drank a minimal amount of them. I also stocked up on yogurt, which I was not able to eat fast enough. Definitely try the sugar free Jello pudding cups, they have some nice flavors. Make sure you have a heating pad and adult liquid tylenol. -
Good morning all, My last post (about a month ago) was about hair loss, a major stall, and some female issues. A month later, and nothing has changed, except maybe getting worse. The female issues are *hopefully* being addressed at an appointment next week, though I'm not sure what will happen. I'm still stuck at 181 and have been for almost two months. At one point, I got down to 178 for a few days, but I suddenly shot back up to 184 and have been bouncing between 180-183 forever now. It's SO depressing! My hair is falling out at a rapid pace. I know this is a common side effect, but I wasn't prepared for it to be this bad. I literally now have small, nearly bald patches and the texture of existing hair is like fine straw. 😞 Not only that, but it doesn't seem my hair is growing at all. I had it colored two weeks before Christmas, and no new growth is visible. My surgeon's staff keeps telling me I need to be better about getting my protein in, and I need to stick to three meals and no snacks meals. Well, that's difficult for me. Even a tiny meal takes me forever to eat...can't tell you the last time I finished a hot - or even warm - meal. And I feel like I get far less protein in. I find I do better eating small snacks throughout the day. Snacks include mini cucumbers, raw bell peppers, string cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, a couple of slices of low-sodium lunchmeat, tuna pouches, V8 juice, Builders Bars, beef jerky, etc. I add Unjury Powder (yuck!) to just about everything. I've also tried to make sure everything is SF and low sodium. When possible, I eat lots of chicken & fish, but I'm getting super tired of those things. I've come to realize I no longer enjoy food, whatsoever. I don't miss junk food (not that I ever really ate much of that anyway), but I miss going to a restaurant and ordering a meal to enjoy with my family. I take a couple of bites and am done - such a waste. My husband is a great cook, and I miss the meals he makes...I can't finish even the smallest filet, can only have a few bites of salmon, etc. I feel terrible when he cooks a beautiful, healthy meal and I can only have a few small bites. Anyway, sorry for the long post...just having a mini pity party for myself today.

Weight has slightly creeped up, whats up?
Karnie replied to robocop12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok...before I give my opinion let me just stress that this is just that...my opinion. I am about 8 weeks out. Sleeved on 6/25. I totally understand the latte/frappe urge. I too used to indulge. I would suggest a substitute. No it's not gonna taste the same but it's better for you right now. Try a latte with non fat milk and stevia and maybe try a little flavor. And no whipped cream...not right now. I know...it sucks...but listen...everyone says that the first two years of the sleeve are the best time to take advantage of this tool. You just went through major surgery...you gotta slow down cuz it sounds like you are digging up some old habits...and it would be so easy to fall back into our old ways....you gotta resist the urge! Fight! As far as food, I would swap out some of those yogurts for more meat - hamburger, steak, fish, etc. I love yogurt too but some of them are sweet and you can get more bang for your buck in terms of grams of Protein with meat. Eating more dense protein may also help curb your appetite for that sweet coffee. As far as exercise, do you have headphones? If so, put on your sneakers and get moving! I have to push myself most days, cuz I'd rather not...but then I think about the fact that less than two months ago, I was laid up in the hospital getting my stomach cut out...and I didn't do that for nothing so I've got to stay on course!! This is your time. You have the opportunity to create a new you. This is your chance for a do over! You will succeed! You've already lost weight! Oh yeah, you didn't mention Water....get that water in...get yourself a special cup that you use just for water... a little corny, maybe...but my big red cup has helped me get it in!! Ok, let's see...I think that's it...hope this isn't too preachy...if so, sorry...just wanted to pass on some of the encouragement and advice that I have received! You know what to do kiddo...JUST DO IT!!! :-) I wish you every success! -
Amen to that!!! I eat better food now than pre-sleeve. My weekend was filled with ribeye steak, baby back ribs and some almond butter that I made. I also found plenty of awesome recipes. I suggest you try TheworldaccordingtoEggface.com. She is a gastric bypass patient, but we eat very similar. She was the first one that made me realize that I could eat vvery well post surgery. I have come across some people who just all out mourn that they are unable to go to a buffet and eat it quantity anymore. I don't know why, but I never went down that road. I do still love food, but it doesn't need to come in such bulk. My tastes didn't change at all, but one thing I have noticed is that I simply do not partake of food that I am ambivalent about. I mean, I used to eat a bag of Funyuns just because they were there. I don't even LIKE them. Why did I used to eat them anyway? I can eat anything, but what I do eat is a lot of beef, pork, chicken, turkey, seafood, cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts, fruit, vegetables and a very, very limited amount of grains. Like someone said, It might suck a bit at first, but you will love the new you.

Social eating after gastric sleeve
ja1721 replied to TriStateSleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got sleeved 4/10. I'm not able to answer your question precisely but I'm kind of in the same boat. Currently I don't eat with my family, but I do eat with my friends. I simply check if the menu offers soup or ask if they can accommodate me. If all else fails, I order herbal tea with artificial sweetener. I've only went out with my best friend, who knows I had the surgery. It's definitely not recommended to do so now but I just had my graduation ceremony. My aunt did the gastric sleeve years before I did. I don't think she began to eat "normally" until after a year. She never fully finishes a meal but will want a small snack afterwards (yogurt). She can't handle spicy food for anything, even now. She doesn't follow the rule of 30 anymore. Almost every time she eats out, she gets heartburn, indigestion, etc. When she finishes eating, it's not because she's happily satisfied but because she's uncomfortable. That's not to say that she doesn't enjoy her food. Obviously, this is when we would go out for rich, once-in-a-while type food. She doesn't really experience this with home cooked foods. Bear in mind, she also fell into some of her old habits. Thankfully, she didn't have too much weight gain. I've also noticed she's a lot pickier now, taste wise. Downright acts like a food critic. Overall, she definitely eats enough that it isn't obvious she had WLS. She just appears to be finnicky with a sensitive stomach. Her initial recovery was a month long so that spared her from dealing with people who didn't know she did the procedure. When she went back to work, her coworkers were all up in her business demanding to know why she was eating so little (and not out of concern). They would bring her sweets even though they were fully aware she was dropping weight. It was clear they were trying to sabotage her. Outside of work, the only people she's had to deal with were family and her husband's friends. So, she only had serious social gatherings around the holidays, and she was sleeved in the Spring. WLS is obviously not ideal if you have a robust social life. For me, even when I get to my soft food stage, I'll still order soup at restaurants because I'm not going to ask them to make my food nursing-home soft in front of who I'm having dinner with. If anybody has an issue, I'll say I ate earlier. Can't drink after WLS. I'll say I've gone sober. Drinking ages you, anyway. -
If you go through the stages instead of right to regular foods (liquid to pureed, to mushy, to soft, to normal), then cottage cheese is a wonderful option, goes down easily and feels good. Greek yogurt, I LOVED that stuff and still do! Scrambled eggs (with cheese of course...everything's better with cheese ), those were probably my go-to breakfasts although for the first few weeks there were lots of times where I'd just go with a protein shake if I didn't feel like food in the morning.

Thanks for the input! I see my surgeon on Tues so we will talk about it then...in the meantime, I am going to have some yogurt! And yes, I take pepcid, but I was supposed to take it twice a day and have only been taking it once, maybe I should step it up!

Hi Nicky pudding and yogurt are not cheats, not at 3 weeks out as far as I know. So you are doing fine. Those are considered full liquids. Are you on any kind of acid reducer? This might be the reason your stomach feels hungry. I take Omeprazole daily, even this far out from surgery. I have tried to stop taking it but my acid is still there. It is what it is! I just deal with it, it sure is a lot better than still being close to 300 Lbs. One last thing, perhaps give your surgeon's office a phone call and ask if he has an alternate eating plan. Some people really do heal faster than others and usually the dietician or the surgeon will allow patients to move through the stages a little faster. Good luck!!

Hi all, How is everyone doing? Please post even if you are not meeting your daily goals. Tracking what you eat is the number one habit of successful weight loss maintainers! I still have a hard time with chicken so I ate a little less than planned last night. And I had one graham cracker with 1 t. peanut butter. So my actual protein and calories for Tuesday were 68 grams of protein and 583 calories. Today I hopped on the scale and was greeted with 186. 7!! I don't log my weight till Friday, but if I lose a little more between now and then I might actually make my goal of losing 10% of my body weight in months 2-3 post surgery. I'm going to the outdoor movies tonight. I will take my dinner for a snack and have my evening protein drink at dinner time. And I'll have an extra snack of some watermelon and a few whole wheat crackers. I was low on yogurt so I had to improvise on my morning smoothie today. Wasn't nearly as good! July 27, Wednesday: Breakfast: Yogurt Smoothie (1/3 C. Fage 0 Plain Yogurt, 1/2 scoop Unjury Unflavored Protein Powder, 1/8 C. OJ, 1/4 C. water, 2 strawberries, Splenda): 17 grams protein, 118 calories Planned Lunch: 1 oz. low fat salami, 1 oz. low fat string cheese, 3 grape tomatoes: 15 grams protein, 140 calories Planned Snack: 1 scoop French Vanilla Gold Standard Whey Protein, 1/2 C. Starbucks Via Decaf Italian Roast, 1/2 C. plain soy milk: 27 grams protein, 155 calories Planned Late Dinner: 1 oz. low fat salami, 1 oz. low fat string cheese, 5 grape tomatoes: 15 grams protein, 140 calories Planned Late Night Snack: 1/2 C. Watermelon, 5 whole grain crackers: 60 calories Planned Protein, 69 grams, Planned Calories: 613, Water: On track - 3 down, 5 to go. Vitamins: I will take my calcium at lunchtime today. Just because I don't want to doesn't mean I can't do it! Exercise: 30 minutes with the trainer -
You probably need to take a probiotic at least daily. This won't cure the existing yeast infection but it will help you from getting more. Cheapest way is to eat a yogurt each day with "active cultures." But I'm lactose intolerant so that doesn't work for me. You can buy probiotic pills at any health food or grocery store. My and my dr's favorite is Primal Defense Ultra, usually found int the refrigerated supplements section. It's pricey but is one of the few that contains both a wide range of probiotic species AND the one that has been found to reduce c. Difficile infections.

Thanks everybody for replying. Sheila I agree with you, that makes sense. Even my own surgeon and the hospital nutritionist have completely different recommendations. It's frustrating. Sixth day on fluids and I am soooooooo wishing I could eat real food. If I followed my nutritionist's advice, tomorrow I could start to have creamed Soups, Protein shakes, milk, yogurt, and pudding. I just don't know what to do.
-
I hear ya. You seem to be doing great though, 13 lbs in 7 days! I guess it's good to compare what others are doing who got banded the same time, let alone the same day. For the first couple/three days I was only at like 300 calories a day, but not in the least bit hungry. I've added some of that great pea soup so a bit more. My tally for today is 600 calories, 75 Grams of protein and 48 oz of water. Now if the yogurt and soup count as fluids, then the amount is probably around 68oz. Is this anywhere in line with where you're at? My name is Bob by the way.

Sugar Free Frozen yogurt after RNY???
GingerSlim posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just wondering if anyone has tried SF fro yo or Rita’s ice in the early weeks after RNY? I’m 4 weeks out. Want to try...but afraid to as well. -
What about unflavored protein powder?? I've been experimenting with smoothies, but I have not added protein powder to one yet. I HAVE been using something new that I've read about somewhere on one of these boards...Greek Yogurt it's about double in protein of any other brand of yogurt. It smells and tastes a little more yogurty but when I add the fruit, banana or pineapple so far.....sugar-free Hershey's syrup or vanilla or coconut extract....all the yummy stuff to make a smoothie, it makes a good, healthy drink. The yogurt is 16 gr of protein for 6 oz. Adding the protein powder is going to make this a great source...WON'T IT????!!!
