    The Best News!

Congratulations Khloe! I had to do the six month supervised diet but fortunately my insurance accepted Weight Watchers and I have been going to their meetings. What date is your surgery? Mine is April 17...one more week!!!

    Im Approved!

I will say that I was lucky on that subject, my mother took off a week starting tomorrow to take care of my daughter while I'm at the hospital and I will stay in her house for the first two week. I could say that I'm blessed because I've had all the support that I need from my family, friends and even my boss told me to take as long as I need. Hopefully for you guys it will work as well. U will be able to find somebody that will help you with your kids.

    Steri-strips

My doc said I'd be fine to peek them off as soon as they were all scabbed over (about 2 weeks!)
  4. In a previous thread, I was bemoaning the fact (ok, whining a bit) about the fact that my nutritionist wouldn't give me a straight answer as far as how many calories (et cetera) I was supposed to be sticking to post-surgery in order to lose weight... Being the data geek that I am however, I might have been able to figure it out myself but wanted some confirmation of my thoughts. Over the past several weeks, I've been "stair stepping" my weight loss. Between 7-10 days to lose a pound or so. Fat is burned off at a typical rate of 3500 calories per pound, right? Looking over my MFP log, I seem to be consuming between 800 to 1200 calories per day, so given the idea of sitting on a 10-day plateau, running an assumed 350 calorie deficit, can I presume that my post-op "maintain weight" calorie count is somewhere between 1200 and 1300 calories? I know Protein and exercise are more important. I'm now getting my protein (between 70 to 110 grams per day) but I still have physical limitations (and mental ones too) that keep me from exercising as I should. Thoughts? Wayne
  5. I'm so glad to have found this site. It's been 10 months since my surgery and I don't think I'm doing very well. I can't stop eating bad foods...all the sweets and junk food. Funny how all the good foods get stuck but the garbage just slides down so easily. Sec... *popping in another M&M*... There I'm back now. Why is it that I'm so hungry all the time? I thought we were only supposed to be able to eat 1/2 cup of food at a meal but I can eat so much. I'm sure I've stretched my pouch. I've had plenty of fills and if I get anymore, I'll end up not being able to eat anything but liquids. Not what I want. I've lost 40 pounds so far but have not lost anything in the last 4 months. I have to lose another 40 more pounds but it's not going to happen if I keep eating this crap and being hungry all the time. Also, does anyone else throw up a lot? I get food stuck all the time and I throw up at least 3 or 4 times a week. And I still don't lose weight. I think I paid $20,000 to become a bulemic. Except that I don't lose weight. Any suggestions would be appreciated.........PLEASE!!! I need some motivation. Thanks Wendy

Calories and protein 4 mths out

My nutritionist said women can do 65. I am only 2 weeks out and on full liquids. I wish I could help more.

    Pain beside my belly button

WOOOOAAAHH....I am almost three weeks out, and I have the same thing! It started today, and I was afraid it had to do with the full liquids I have been adding into my diet. I am curious to know what others say.
  8. So far the 200 calorie bars have not caused me to stall. I don't want to eat so low calorie I kill my metabolism later. This is now a life long process. And I have never only eaten 800 to 1000 daily calories in my life. Ha!

    Post Op Response Please

Week one I was clear liquid only. I had Isopures from GNC and Propel with a bit of broth each day Week Two I was full liquid and I had SF Popsicle, shakes, more propel, and broccoli cheese Soup strained. I couldn't find any other cream Soups that I liked. Basically I lived on every flavor of propel lol
  10. Im 8 days post op and started my full Protein diet yesterday. As of right now i can tolerate tomato Soup. I drink EAS chocolate Protein shakes to get some protein in. I have found that to get even more protein I add a scoop of chocolate Protein powder to sf chocolate carnation instant Breakfast and i cant even tell i added anything. I have been struggling to get down my liquids but not becasue i cant tolerate them but because i take in air everytime i try, even if i blow it all out first. i regret it about 2 minutes after when my chest and stomach hurt. I tried cheese soup becasue i was craving cheese badly. That didnt go over so well. After i ate it i felt gross and i had alot of gas built up. I know that everybody is different and can tolerate different things. So are there any suggestions to what else i can drink while im on my full liquids? what worked for you? what didnt work for you?

    Beer & Basketball

Hi Todd, glad you are "back on the wagon". I just wanted to know when you were banded. If you were banded recently I would strongly suggest not introducing beer back in for several months or a year. The carbonation and foam in beer can cause severe complications. A person in our group had emergency surgery to have their band removed after having 2 beers 8 weeks after surgery. This could be a very rare case, but just wanted to let you know to be very careful.
  12. Hey June! For both answers that is exactly what I thought. They stay forever, and 3-6 weeks, but as I was talking to my friend last night it seemed wrong? Lol! Forever? 3-6 weeks? Seems like that is not long enough! I started questioning my facts...? (This is normal with me though. Lol!) Thanks!

    Oh Please, Oh Please!

I still haven't heard from the doctors office to start up all of my apts. Don't they know how excited I am to get this 250 lb ball rolling? I feel like calling and saying ...did you forget about me? But I pretty much already did that last week when I called to make sure that they got my fax with all my info. I just want to see this thing materialize. On another note, I had my parents over for dinner the other night and as she always does, my mother brought up the whole "we're really going to do it this year" diet crusade pact. I almost felt bad about not telling her my little secret but then again, she made it perfectly clear that she didn't want to know. My mom is my best friend but she just can't deal with the thought of a chance of somthing bad happening. Even when the somthing bad is only .7% and the chance of somthing good happening is 93% more likely to happen. My husband has been a real trooper about this. He has made it clear he is perfectly happy with me the way I am and I love him for that. I love him for a lot more than that but that is a real biggy. Hopfully tonight I'll be writing in my journal again saying that I just got the call. Oh to add to my list of things on my first entry: 25. I would like to walk with nylons on and not hear the friction from between my legs. 26. I would like to stop fearing that I will fall through the floor while taking a bath because of my weight and having the parimedics have to come find me in the basement naked in an awful fat position. I really do think of this every time I take a shower! 27. I would love to wear sexier underwear...I'm sure the big granny briefs aren't doing it for my hubby.
  14. That's what I was thinking too. Thank you for the input. Isn't the first year the most vital to weight loss for the sleeve? Obviously pregnancy is going to stall that weight loss. I'm trying to figure out if it will effect my long term weight loss goals. Hmmm.

    More difficult than I thought

At almost 8 weeks post op I'm feeling better and I have made changes to help with the head hunger. I change the TV or stand up and move during food comcommercials. Hubby doesn't eat in front of me until I've ate so that my pouch feels full. I've only had one 3 cc fill and don't feel restricted yet. I eat Protein first and track everything. It will get better. Stay strong. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

    Just an update

:(Hello all, Just had a few spare minutes to update my journal. To date I have lost a total of 44#'s. I am still going to the YMCA 3-4 times a week and I am also doing some exercising at my home. I bike ride with my son and play basketball with him. At the YMCA I am doing 10 minutes of Cardio and all 15 weight machines each day. I just added today the abdominal crunches on the mat and the standing crunches with the cross bar. I have had my first fill, but still have no restriction. I can eat what ever I want, so I have to watch it really close. I am not due for another fill until Nov. 5th. The scale has not moved since my last fill on Oct. 3rd. I still continue to go to the gym and nothing is happening. It is really starting to get me down. I have no one to talk to about anything reguarding my band and the weight loss. I am hungry all the time and the will power is going south really fast...... I am still makeing wise food choices, but I can't seem to make the scale move. Any suggestions? Please respond if you have any comments. I must go for now. Keep up the good work one and all and I will post more at a later date.... Nulife:cry:eek:
  17. It takes time.... You will get your energy back. It was at least six weeks for me. Your body is going through major changes right now. RELAX and take a deep breath. My surgeon said to shoot for 64 oz of liquids a day. I struggled the first month to accomplish that goal. As the swelling goes down it will get easier. I couldn't get my plumbing to work so I honestly have no answers concerning that. I do wish you all the best. Life does get less uncomfortable and confusing. Hang in there!

  19. Hello! My name is Mojo. I attended an introductory meeting at Visalia Medical Clinic with Dr. Manuele last week, and am considering having the lap band surgery. I have my nutritional counseling appt tomorrow, my psychological evaluation next week, and will see my primary physician the next week for referral. Things are moving really fast. Would be very interested in chatting with anyone in my area who has had the surgery, or considering having it.

    Banded 5/11!!!!

Hi All... It's amazing to me the difference in doctor style and approach. My post op regime= 2weeks full liquid diet + 1 week pureed diet + 1 week soft diet and then home free. I am on day 8 of the full liquids and I am suffering. I start to gag now when I have to drink my food and I am only taking in about 500 cals a day. I am losing weight but fear it is muscle and water and not the good stuff. What are your post op diets like?
  21. Hello everyone! I'm not typically one to participate in forums, but this is pretty important so I need to get advice from others that have had the same procedure. I've decided with my surgeon to do the Sleeve procedure next month since I travel often for business and it is tough to fit follow up visits on my calendar. I'm a little freaked out by the fact that I will be on a liquid diet for 4-6 weeks. I'm also concerned about the pain post-surgery. Any suggestions or advice?
  22. You'll be fine to do ordinary household stuff in a couple weeks. Again, even today, if you are smart about it. Just listen to your body. It is OK to take a break every 5 minutes. Sometimes, that is the only way to get through this early out. 5 minutes at a time.
  23. I am three weeks post op. I have loved reading the forums. Following this site has prepared me for many things:, intolerance to Water, intolerance to certain temperature of liquids, constipation, diarrhea, throwing up, changes in smell, changes in taste, changes in emotions...to name a few. I am pleasantly surprised that I have. It has one single issue or complication. Again, I'm only 3 weeks out and I suppose things could change at any time. I wanted to post this so that other newbies know that things can go smoothly, as there can also be complications and changes. Not everyone has the same recovery. It's just less common (and maybe a little boring) to read posts about everything being peachy! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I take a stool softener as needed, was told to take if I haven't had a bowel movement in 48hours. I barely take it, I find with getting my required water intake I've been doing well in that regards. I had pain for weeks, still have a bit now and I'm like 5 weeks out. I take a Norco if needed, or if I need to drive I take a Tylenol gel tab. Try distraction if you can. It will eventually get better, pain is expected but with healing WILL go away.

    Controling Your SWEET TOOTH

I am almost into my 6 week pre-op diet which is mostly protein drinks. What I have heard that helps with the sweet tooth is SF pop-cycles or SF jello. It's the one thing that you'll get to eat after the surgery so it might help before. What helps me is I use a little more Mio in my water. It makes it sweet and helps me with my craving. I have quit everything like you but the soda is the one thing that is difficult for me. Considering where I was 4 months ago I have quit a lot of things that are bad for me. Can't wait to hear how your pre-op appointment goes
