  1. Just had my EGD this morning. So quick and easy. Now my sleeve is scheduled for Feb 10, hope that goes just as well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  2. I am a little over 2 months out about 9 weeks and im a slow loser. Since surgery i have only lost 26 pounds. Total since my highest weight I am down 45 pounds. I am eating whatever I want now. I eat Sushi, california rolls usually and am only able to eat about 4 pieces. I also eat bread and Pasta and rice and all the other things they said not to. I just eat it when i have no choice or very little of it. I have never thrown up, ever. I am pretty sure I dont get enough Protein. I also forget to take my chewable Vitamin daily too. I have had one blood test so far and so far so good. I have not lost hair but I heard it takes about 4 months. I eat slower then i use to but prob not slow enough. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and have started running too. It feels great. I love my sleeve. I also just started drinking a tiny bit this past week, my drink of choice is a glass of Moscato wine, i have had no issues, and it does only take a little bit to feel it. I find that i have to wait at least 1 hour after i eat to drink some Water, any sooner then that i feel it and it hurts for a minute. Over all, i am loving my new life. I love that people can start to tell the difference. I like how it makes me feel. I love that my pants are too big and i love that i just got rid of 2 trash bags of clothes that i will never fit into again. Every 10 pounds that i lose, i say to myself, i will never be 250 again, i will never be 240 again, i will never be 230 again, and so on. I

    Anyone never gotten stuck?

I too had my surgery on February 10, 2009, and have never been stuck. After my last fill I've had increased discomfort from eating too fast, but that's all. Debbie

    Buying future clothes

So far, I'm been able to mostly "shop" in my own closet. I have a lot of old clothes, some of them rarely or never worn, in sizes ranging from 20W down to 10. I kept all the smaller sizes hoping to fit into them again someday. I've bought a few things on sale at Target to supplement--a couple t-shirts, a pair of jeans.

    The first step

I FINALLY have a date set for the Lap-Band Surgery. It's for 11/13/07. I met with Dr. Bunch on 10/25/07 and his entire staff are awesome. I was working with Dr. Bagan's office for over two years and one meeting with Dr. Bunch and my surgery is scheduled. God is so great. Beginning this Sat I have to start my 10 day liquid diet. I am excited and nervous. I have a really great support group at home, my DH and two DS's. They keep telling me that I can do it and my mother says to call her if I feel like I need to eat the arm off of the couch. :hungry: I will post how it goes and just how easy/hard it is. :faint:

    African American Bandsters?

Hi everyone, Just thought I join in! I was banded in June '06. I lost a solid 60 lbs over the last year and a half. With my last fill I became severly restricted and ended up having to have a total unfill and now I'm starting over with the fills again. I did regain about 30 of the pounds, but I blame myself for not stopping myself from eating the wrong foods. I was sooo happy to be able to swallow, I lost my mind and ate in celebration. I am working on it now though and I'm back in the gym, I've dropped 10 pounds in 2 weeks and my fill appt is this week.

    blood thinner shots?

ok I wasnt sure what others were doing because I had a friend who said 'well I didnt need those'. I wanted to say well maybe he isnt as cautious as my dr is but I let it go. I have to do the Lovenox shot for 7 days, once a day. They are better than the heparin which would have been 3 times a day for 10 days. Lucky me haha

    Is your wife banded ??

I just wanted to let everyone know that things went well for my wife who had the band on 9/12/07. I have been busy and have not had a chance to post. I am also going to get the band on 9/19/07. We are not sure the date when her sister will get hers at this time. Here are the details of how things went. Here surgery was moved back from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. So we got to the hospitial at 1 and got check in. They took here back and she go dressed for surgery and they did blood work. Then they took us to the surgery waiting area. They did not allow us to go back into that area. ( I think the reason was are young daughter was with us and there was not enough room in the area for 3 people) they gave us here glasses and she went on into the pre-op area. I saw the doctor before surgery. They did not start surgey until 4 P.M. she was done by 5 P.M. the doctor came out and said it went well and that she was given the new AP regular which is about 10cc and has soem Fluid in it. She was in recovery until about 6:45 P.M. Then she was moved to her room. Well to say the least that was crazy because it was also shift change and you can iamage how that was. We left about 7:30P.M. that night. Also she could not have nothing to drink or eat until after the barriam swallow test. (We found that out the next day). We new that the test was happing but not that she could not eat. So she had the test on Thursday morning and she passed it with flying colors. So we thought she could go ahead and start drinking and eating but it was another couple of hours before they did anything.(The reason is the nurses will not do anything untill they have a written signed report in the file). So she was complaning of nausea etc. so they kept giving her meds for it. She was able to get up and walk around etc. and she was able to start drinking and eating. We thought that she would be out of the Hosp. by say 3 P.M. but that was not to be the case. Here is another thing that we learned. The clock for the 24 hours does not start when you come in. It starts after surgery and when you get into the room. So they were not planning to let here go before 7 P.M. but no one told us that before hand. The doctor came in a couple of times and check on here and then came back around 5 P.M. and said that she could go. So by the time we got her dressed and all the paper work done it was right at 7 P.M. I brought here home and she is doing fine now. As far as care at the hospitial was ok. It took a long time to get food etc. when they told us they had it on the floor.(The nurses were busy since the rooms were filled) I think that was part of the reason why she was having problems with nausea etc. Then another thing that was upsetting was how the nurse approached with having to give more meds for infections etc. and saying because you are still here. Well now as I look at it, if you would have brought the food right-a-way we might not have this problem. So with that said now things will be easier for myself on Wednesday the 19th and for her here sister when she has it done. I did say that I will have a jug of Soup ready for when I can eat and not wait on them to bring it. I think that if would have had it there and ready for when the paper work was in place she might not of had as much nausa as she did. Just iamage what it is like to not eat for almost 30 hours and having legal drugs in your system. No wonder you have nausa. Again thanks to everyone for all your advice, help and prayers. I will let you know how my surgery went.
  11. I'll just ditto what Swiftflow mentioned. It's not "hunger" it's the acid that caused my "hunger' early out before I started taking the Prilosec. I take generic RX Prilosec 20mg once daily, first thing in the a.m. and 1 hour before eating. Pepcid, Zantac, Tums, etc etc are not PPIs and do not work the same. Ally- You may need a different PPI. You may need to take it twice a day. Check with your doctor and see he/she has any suggestions for you. NtvTxn- With Prilosec, it takes a few days for them to become full effective. I think it took around 10-14 days for it to really kick in for me. So, if you're just taking it "as needed", it's only treating the symptoms of acid, and not preventing it. I would take it on a regular basis per your surgeon's directions.
  12. My surgeon gave me the option of doing it all at once or separate surgeries. I chose to do separate surgeries because I had the band for 10 years and figured there would be alot of scarring and adhesions and to be honest I was still coming to terms with whether I wanted 85% of my stomach removed. When they removed the band in late September, they spent alot of time removing the adhesions and I will be sleeved and hernia repair in December. I don't think it is a skill level question; I think it is a question of what do you think is the least risk. I suspect that there isn't very good data on which approach gives best results statistically speaking (ie fewer complications) so surgeons are working off their own experiences. for me, this has been good. I have been so hungry and gaining weight, in spite of trying to diet since the band came out. It has really removed any dellusional thoughts of "I can do this myself". It may sound crazy, but i needed that last dose of reality, that my obesity is out of control and I can't get a grip without bariatric surgery.
  13. 10:25 Surgery Time. I know I'll feel the love from all you great people. I love the support around here and the community that we have. Thanks everyone!!
  14. Hi Everyone!! Thank you all for caring about me. It means the world to me! I woke up everything three hours for pain meds last night. Then I watched tv for an hour and went to sleep for two. At 6am I went back to sleep until 9am and woke up feeling great. I'm walking around the house, talking on the phone, answering emails. I can't believe how much energy I have. I waited 5 hours to take pain meds and probably could have skipped them, but I didn't want to stop being active. I have zero gas pains and I'm not passing gas or burping much at all. I think my homeopathic remedy "carbo vegetabilis" really does a good job with it. I had one gasx strip but didn't really need it, just more wanted to try it to see what it was. I've actually discovered that 25 calories fruit juice popcicles feel best to me. Maybe because I'm swollen inside. I just made some time ice cubes using Diet Cranberry- pomegrante juice flavored drink. I'm hoping those go down well. I'm working towards my 20 oz of fluids today. I have zero hunger. I went into surgery at 228.8 and this morning I was 230, so the surgery weight is already coming off. After gallbladder in November I was 10 pounds the next day. I couldn't be more pleased. If I needed to work from home today, I could do it, but thankfully I have until Tuesday for that. My son is flying in from NYC tonight and will be here until Tuesday morning. I'm so excited to feel so well. I'm looking foward to walking with him and watching movies and just having fun! If you've not been sleeved yet and are thinking about it, do it! I'm soo happy this morning. My mantra is still "everything always works out for me". I went into surgery thinking and hoping for the best possible outcome and so far, that's exactly what's happened.
  15. I am 4 weeks out and I feel hunger on a daily basis. I am also able to eat much more than I thought I would and have to consciously stop myself. I can easily eat a cup of food and I've never felt any pain nor had difficulty eating. Last night I had about three ounces of grilled chicken, a few bites of brocolli and about 10 tortellini. While I realize that is not a huge meal, I thought I would only be able to eat a couple of tablespoons this early on in the journey. I am also able to take regular sized sips of water with no trouble or pain. It feels like I never had surgery. I am happy about the no pain of course, but I do wish I would get full quickly and I just don't. Jill
  16. Soup gets my tummy talking too! I thought it may be that I am swallowing air along with the soup. The constant gurgling has for the most part subsided though. I was sleeved 12/19/12
  17. I just had my surgery 10/23 I'm 6 days post op n I feel great! Surgery went great n yes I did feel pain once I woke up n was already in my recovery room but lil by lil I stayed strong. Since my week of pre op 10/16 till now I've lost a total of 30lbs so I can already tell this is going very well for me. I'm so glad I decided on the sleeve because first I was going to do the lapband. I'm still on the liquid diet pretty soon I'll start on soft foods I can't wait because getting tired of broth lol
  18. Hello All, Today is my Two Year Bandiversary! I am down a total of 63 pounds from my all time high. I am 5 pounds away from a normal BMI (149). My weight has been stable for several months. I feel so good where I am that I haven't been strongly motivated to lose the rest of what I need to in order to get to my orginally selected goal of 140. I am maintaining my current weight with ease. I eat to my appetite level and concentrate on making good choices and not eating junk. I am hopeful that this means I will not easily gain the weight back. I am more active than I was two years ago because being more active is easier than it was. How nice is that? I've lost weight, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol. I've gained size 10 clothes, self-esteem, and self-confidence. I'm not the largest person in the crowd. I don't feel as though people are looking at my plate and judging what I am eating. I've had no complications. I hope to keep it that way. Best wishes to all as we journey on to healthier selves!!
  19. Deborah, The 10 day clear liquid phase is very hard. There is no doubt about it that it's not easy. A lot of people just give up trying to get all their Protein in if they can't drink isopure. I used unflavored Protein powder and put it into anything that I could find that was sugar free. I didn't have any trouble drinking either. I had to force myself to go slowly. It's more important not to get dehydrated right now than it is to get that protein in. After the 10 days is up, you can try other things. Go to the food section of this board and find the thread "places to order samples" A lot of people like the nectar samples better than the milky protein powder. You're going to need something for when you can get on full liquids, so order some samples of something now. There is also a "Rate your protein powders" or something like that.

    It's Gonna Happen!

Thank you all! I totally relate to you who are having the same thoughts I did...so much self doubt and fear for us all. For me it was so bad that I told no one I was doing this in case I failed (I have yet to tell anyone). My goal was modest compared to some, but overwhelming for me. I have thyroid disease and a non-existent metabolism. I lost about 10 lbs on my preop and a little over 60 since then. It sucked, let's be real, but I didn't bust my ass or watch the food intake and I even drank alcohol whenever I felt like it. Some may think it irresponsible of me to say these things, given how much we all have struggled and continue to struggle post op in many cases. But my intention is to encourage everyone. It will happen! It will.

New here thought i say hi

That's fantastic!! Good for you! I was sleeved on 10/23 too. I only had to do 1 day of preop prep. I am down 11lbs. I ate all of my favorites and too much of it up until just past midnight of the day before surgery-too stuffed and I felt like I was saying goodbye to a best friend. Funny how the mind messes with ya. I felt that way when I quit smoking too. But what really ticked me off was letting these things rule my life. So glad to have this surgery and be able to grab the bull by the horns and have this tool to help me conquer this beast. Keep up with your posting, you are doing excellent!!!

    Bikram Yoga (aka Hot Yoga)

I attended my first yoga class on day 8 post op with my dr's blessing. I was a fast healer. My incisions were completely healed by day 10. Now I was not doing hot yoga, but a gentler style. My advice is go slow and modify modify modify! Listen to your body and be gentle with yourself. I resumed my practice about 5 months pre op to meet my goal of going into my surgery being as healthy as possible. And I think my practice pre and post op has been crucial to the whole weight loss process. Go but go slow. Namaste

    Prepared for new life?

Every surgery has risks. I Read all the bad outcomes. But thought it was a good choice for me to go ahead with surgery. I worried till I got to the hospital. The Drs and nurses were fabulous. I talked to my anesthesiologist till I don't remember. I woke up and it was done. The first 2 days I had diarrhea. Of course I read that some people have it forever. But just like my info packet said I might have it for 2 days is gone and I'm fine. Everyday gets easier. I wAs mad reading all the posts that people felt great from day 1 after surgery. I was nauseous a lot the first few days. But I'm 12 days out and doing fine. I too wish I did it 10 years ago. But better late than never. Do what your heart tells you. Don't over think it. Just think what life will be like in 3 months. 6 months etc. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Slow Weight Loss

Try not to put to much pressure on yourself while you are healing. The 11pounds is awesome!! When you are able to have more control over what you eat, I'm sure you will be successful! I'm actually looking forward to the solid stage....The post op diet is very carb friendly and not Protein friendly--except for the shakes and since my surgery on March 19 I have only lost 7 pounds where before that I was able to keep to a high protein/low carb diet and lose about a pound almost every day ! So I can't wait to get the green light to realy food so I can return to the high protein/ low carb way of life. Ketosis is a wonderful thing! Hang in there!
  25. Thanks for all your replies. Very helpful and supportive. I'm literally only allowed 2 pints of milk with added coffee or vanilla essence, 1x 250 gram yoghurt and 2 litres of water. I'm on day 10 now and doing great. Only that one slip up. The aim for me isn't to loose weight but to shrink my liver. Weight loss is a side effect but not the aim for me. Hopefully I've done it right and all will be ok. I lost 10 lbs in the first 5 days but nothing since. Maybe it's too low in cals to continue loosing weight. I'm ok with that though as long as it's shrank my liver for surgery. Xxx
