Do you know how to find your weight loss percentage? My team expects 10-15% weight loss at 6 weeks. The formula they give me is ((pounds lost)/(excess body weight))x100. Excess body weigh is your IBW that insurance companies use. My doc provided me with mine but you can do a quick google search and calculate your own.

6 days post op . I need help!
knshelle replied to Bypass Lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You aren't alone! I was sleeved on 10/16 and at my one month post-op visit i told my doctor i wish i could have been sedated the first week after surgery!! It is really tough. I drank 0 protein shakes but i used Isopure flavorless protein powder in my drinks and soup. Everything had to be at room temperature. My stomach hurt. It does get better. By the third week it's like someone flipped a switch and I had my energy back, soreness was gone, and i was 20lbs down. Goodluck! -
I haven't had that done but here's some advise since I am a health care worker. Set up as much as you can before hand. Get a wedge pillow so that you can sleep semi reclined. That will be easier to get in and out of bed without having to use your arms to push up. Be strict about using compression garments the doctor orders. Have things ie pots/pans sitting on the counter so you don't have to bend and reach for them. Go to the dollar store or shop Amazon and get a sponge on a stick and a reacher. I would also have a sturdy step stool so if you do need to reach something high you can stand on the step stool to avoid lifting your arms too much. Also get some button front shirts. You may want a step stool at the edge of your bed if it is high. That way you can stand against the bed and step onto the stool to get on the edge of the bed easier. If your legs are really sore you can use a long belt, scarf, or dog leash, the belt you put thru to make a tiny 10 inch waist- that's where you stick your foot thru the loop and you can use your arms to help slide your leg on the bed if needed. You could buy a leg lifter device but a belt works ok. I think it's better to have all of the modifications ready and if you don't need it great. Also if you use gallons of milk or water, switch or have someone else pour them in smaller, lighter containers. I recommend getting the spray dry shampoo since you won't be able to wash your hair for a while. Dove makes a good one. If you use a recliner with a lever put a piece of PVC pipe over the lever so it's easier to pull and recline the chair.

September bypass buddies??
shoregirl75 replied to MissPoodle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So are i know there are lots of different instructions out there but i see lots of people say 3 meals a day only, no grazing no snacks. Is that what most of you are doing. My surgery was 9/10 so i am cleared for everything, but i was told 4-6 small meals a day is what i should be doing. I don't have a nutritionist to follow up with. So i just wanted to see what most every else was doing at this point. Did you start off with 4-6 small meals and progress to the 3 meals as you can eat more? Or are some of you still doing the 4-6 small meals a day? Thanks for your help in advance! -

Back for support - nearly 7 years sleeved!
Queen of Crop replied to coops's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Hello again everyone...especially to those of us who go WAY back. Wondering how common it is to slide back into old habits after so many years of doing so well. Sometimes I wish I could go back in and have another tuck at my tummy...I fear I am addicted to sugar again and cannot seem to stop. I am up 15lbs and I keep thinking it cannot go higher. But I have gone back to the gym and am happy about that. Anyway, am thinking of following up with my book, Queen of Crop with Queen of Crop; 10 years after!!! Anyone want to contribute???? I think us veterans out there have stories to tell! -
Congratulations on your great weight loss! I'm also 7 weeks post op, (surgery 10/9/18). So far I'm down 45 lbs since initial visit, 19 since surgery. I'm half way to the goal my surgeon set! My personal goal will probably be lower. I guess I'm not quite as adventurous as you though because I just reached the point of trying "all foods" this week per my plan. Haven't tried alcohol either. I've had a pretty nice recovery too...followed instructions as best I could and am happy with results so far!

pain control 1.5 years after GBS
virginiaRN replied to virginiaRN's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I love PT. I failed to mention that in my OP. Yes, I have been in PT for my neck or low back over a dozen times in the last 10 years. Dry needling is amazing too. I'm going to a special PT who does dry needling on Friday. I really hope my insurance covers! It was literally a godsend, but I maxed out my PT visits in previous years. I don't think I have this year. Thanks. -
So I'm 6 weeks out (tomorrow). I haven't been perfect with my post-op diet, but damn have I been close! Until tonight. I binged on tortilla chips. I had probably 30 to 35 chips. I fit them all in within probably a 30 minute period and didn't even feel that bad. I felt really full, but I wasn't sick or anything. I wish my sleeve was pickier sometimes. I wish I didn't know I could fit 35 tortilla chips in my sleeve. I can't believe I did that. I think it started with allowing myself to have 2 cups of popcorn at work today. I started really craving the salt and it seems that I backslid into lack of control very quickly. I've already been in a 10 day stall. (Stall #2 in 6 weeks). Dreading seeing the scale tomorrow and feeling stupid.
-
I'm so confused and frustrated. I know stalls are very common around week 3 (I am 19 days out, so I am almost there). Earlier in the week, I was down 12.7lbs. since surgery, for a total of 33.8 including the pre-surgery diet. Then two days ago I went up a pound, and I figured, ok, water fluctuation, but then today, another pound. I am getting in my protein and eating between 400-500 calories now. I went back to work, so I am more active. Why am I gaining? I expected a stall, but not a gain, is that common as well? Am I eating too many calories for this stage of the game? I had really hoped to lose 15 the first month.

Anyone scheduled for December yet?
Psyched replied to kx2ax5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I shared this in the other December group as well. So, I am on day 5 of the liquids only and it's going pretty good. My best friend, this woman is truly my person, is doing a version of the liquid diet with me because she didn't want me to feel like I was alone. She completed the first 4 days liquid only, but I talked her into having at least one low carb/high protein meal a day because, first of all she doesn't need to lose a pound and second of all I was worried that the medicine that she takes would make her sick. I BEGGED and PLEADED and she FINALLY agreed. My husband prepped for this phase for me by going to the grocery store and purchasing plenty of said liquids, jello, pudding, etc. He has put in his time to take a week off from work, which is a blessing. I prepped myself over the course of the last 4 months by doing several (and I do mean several) liquid diets for various lengths of time. I fast periodically anyway, but I wanted to condition my body for this. It's a big difference between liquids only for 1 week and liquids only for 4 weeks. From all of my prior liquids only diets and fasts, I knew that Day 1 and Day 2 would be HARD for me. The kind of hard where you contemplate cheating. I expected it, so, to combat it I emptied my usual carry bag which usually contains protein chips, a protein bar, a protein water, and a protein shake, I took the chips and the bar out and doubled the protein shake and protein water. I still carry my usual thermos of water. I wanted to make sure I have enough liquids on me to last while I am out running errands, etc. so that when hunger hits, I won't go nuts. I knew the end of Day 3 would find me in bed early finishing off the end of my battling through constant headaches. So, Day 5-10 should be decent. I am sure I will have the occasional headache and battles with feeling weak. I have NO idea what awaits after Day 10, as I've only gone ten days. Fingers crossed! It gets tough, but we can do this!! I am just focused on the journey and enjoying seeing the pounds continue to come off. How is it coming for everyone else? VSG- 12/6 -

I was sleeved 10/14. I was never nauseous before surgery. Now, things are different. I don’t feel hungry anymore, but when it’s close to a time for me to eat (for example when I wake up in the morning before I eat breakfast), I feel nauseous. Same if I have a late lunch - I will feel nauseous until I eat something. After I eat, nausea goes away. Problem is, I don’t have much appetite, nothing is appealing when you’re nauseous so it’s hard to force myself to eat a few bites to relieve the nausea. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Tips to relieve the nausea?

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
sillykitty replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
That's great @GreenTealael I'm just doing mild IF, not eating in the morning because I'm naturally not hungry. I'm not timing it, but it likely 14:10 or something like that (or would that be 10:14?) Weight is continuing to come off slowly, which is amazing considering the crap I've been eating. I'm still in the honeymoon period it seems! Or maybe it's the cardio -
So I think someone on Instagram helped me with this - they suggested and I bought unflavored protein (I bought Unjury brand but there's tons) and I add it to my water bottle with a packet of crystal light. That way I am getting in protein and liquid simultaneously. Since I started doing that, I haven't had a problem hitting my protein goal of 60-70 grams per day. One scoop is 21 grams, I normally just do one scoop per day, 1/2 scoop in 2 bottles of water. That 21 grams is HUGE, since I already get 30 from a protein shake then the rest from whatever foods I eat. FYI I am 19 days post-op, on day 5 of my 2 week puree diet, and I personally do not have any issues getting my fluids in as I drink pretty much all day. There's literally a 32 ounce water bottle not 6 inches from my hand as I type this. Hope things get easier!

My surgeon told me to expect 8-10 lbs a month, so that sounds about right? But true everyone loses at different rate. Don’t focus only the number on the scale, sometimes it’s best not to weigh yourself daily and just stay the course! Good luck!

Two Years Out and Major Weight Regain
jennypenny1998 replied to Danny Paul's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a little over a year out and wasn't too big to begin with, so weight loss wasn't as huge, but I was down from 230 to 167. I went to the dr yesterday and weighed 190. I have been going to the gym, which is also hard for me to do since I have IC and working out causes flare ups. (Anyone else with IC on here?) I do eat bad sometimes, but have stayed on track for the most part as most "bad" foods also cause a flare up. And every protein shake I have tried for the past few months have been making me SO nauseous. Anyone have any suggestions? I wear a size medium in tops and a 10/12 in jeans. Although my size hasn't changed, the pounds have and I feel like you can see it. I have been so down about it and have been strict with what I eat. I need tips and motivation :( -
Paranoid I've already Stretched My Stoma - 3 Weeks Out
Vagrant Violet posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey, all, After years and years of putting off surgery, I finally underwent a gastric bypass procedure on November 6 of this year. On one hand, I was pleasantly surprised that I really did not suffer any significant pain or complications, etc. However, since I have been feeling well (and perhaps overly confident), over the past few days, there were a few instances when I inadvertently drank my few protein shakes too fast (which were made with a mixed base of water, skim milk, Isopure, and half a banana (which my NUT has approved), to the point where I felt a tinge of discomfort. Moreover, I admit that I was being rather foolish because I did not really measure the amount of liquid that I put into the blender before downing the shake (I imagine close to about 10 -11 oz?). Too much, I know. Although I would not say that I was in pain, I am now incredibly worried that I have already messed up my surgery and stretched out my stoma. I have already promised myself that from now on, I will measure everything that I consume, but I am concerned that the damage has been done, so to speak. Does anyone have any advice (like a pouch reset)? Has anyone experienced something similar? Am I being overly paranoid? :( Thank you all in advance, V.V. -
I was sleeved on 10/16 and stalled for 3.5 weeks at 2.5 weeks out. I am now 6 weeks and just dropped 4 lbs...whew.. I will say I see a major difference in clothes fitting despite the stall. Almost none of my old clothes fit anymore. Take lots of photos and measurements to use because the scale does not always tell the truth. [emoji12] Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
chattycat replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Checking in! RNY July 5 th HW 257, SW 240, CW 193. Things are going well so far, my biggest challenges have been eating out with friends! Eating out is such a social thing I struggle with what to order, usually try to share and just have a small amount of whatever but it’s not always healthy.......oh, and I found out that iron isn’t my friend 😩. Trying to find one that won’t cause constipation! My weight loss has been slower then some but I am over 60 so there is that! But I had lost the same amount of weight 10 years ago on WW and it took 2 years so when I look at it that way it’s amazing! -
I was sleeved on 10/30/18, had some respiratory complications, aside from that, the surgery was a walk in the park. I’m 4 weeks post-op today and lost 17 lbs since surgery and 27 lbs since pre-op diet. I feel I need to exercise more frequently as I hit a 10-day stall now and don’t know what to do. I am having 700-800 calories a day and 70-80 grans of protein, drink 64 oz of water but my exercise routine is very unpredictable: there are weeks I work out most of the days and others I don’t...losing motivation and that can’t happen...how do you guys keep motivated and a positive mindset?

Hi Folks. Question that you all may or may not have run into. I had roux-en-y GBS 1.5 years ago. Lost almost 100 pounds. That is going well. I have some chronic back issues (degenerative disc dz in lumbar and cervical region) and have done all the injections, radiofrequency ablations, epidural blocks, etc., that I can manage. Pain persists, but ortho has stated it is not appropriate for surgery. To be fair, I wasn't really going around hunting down someone to operate b/c the idea of back surgery is not exactly thrilling to me, having taken care of the post-op back surgery patients in home health and with the back surgery success rate of 50%. Prior to surgery, I was able to take NSAIDs and certainly took my share. My surgeon stated no way on the NSAIDs. After me badgering him, he allowed me to take Celebrex 100mg twice a day along with Nexium 40mg once a day. I did this for 3 weeks. I ended up with a peptic ulcer which had to be treated for a month with a multiple medication cocktail. It was not fun. The ulcer was way more painful that the neck and back pain I originally had. For a while, I managed on regular or arthritis-strength OTC tylenol. Then, my pain management doctor rx'd Vicodin, which is never a good long term solution. So, I took it, with the knowledge that I shouldn't take this long term. I've dc'd this myself and I am still in pain. Also prohibited by my GBS surgeon are oral steroids (prednisone, prednisolone, etc.) FWIW, I have unsuccessfully taken Cymbalta, Neurontin, and a few other neuro-type drugs. I take Lexapro for moderate depression. I can't take a number of meds also because of my epilepsy history from the age of 9. Oh, and I maxed out my chiro benefit this year (20 visits.) Out of pocket, chiro is $70/visit and the chiro wants me there twice a week. I have expressed that I really loved his services but I can't afford $140/week. I used to get 90 minute deep tissue massages about every 10 days, but my therapist moved far, far away and I've struggled to find someone even half as good. Currently doing epsom salt baths, Tylenol, and heat and or cool packs. Normally, I'm good but unusual activity types usually throw me over the edge. (This weekend had a house flood which entails me and my family moving lots and lots of things from one area of the house to another.) I've even done acupuncture, but the cost was prohibitive ($900 for 3 treatments.) I even have my own TENS unit and foam rollers. I do some strengthening and stretching exercises on my own, which helps too. I need to find a better solution for pain management. Anyone find solutions and/or good providers who have a handle on this? I will travel to see someone good. Thanks in advance!

OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE
xbadwlfbb replied to RomAnca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know my one year update is a little late, but still wanted to chime in and say how great everyone is doing! The last few pounds are so hard to lose, I still have 10 lbs to go to meet my goal weight, but I will get there. I really wanted to reach that goal by my wedding date, but I didn’t get there. It’s hard not to get discouraged or become unmotivated, but when I think about where I was a year ago, I’ve come a long way and I have to push through. I know I can do it. Positive mindset is key! Here are progress pictures. Hopefully soon I can add when I meet my goal weight (fingers crossed)! -
Anyone else bad at taking pictures?
JessaK replied to KCgirl061's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Absolutely! My situation is s little different than most. I had a Lap Band for 10 years. I lost 100+ lbs and kept it off for years. I had my band emergency removed. I thought I could maintain the weight myself but I ended up putting back on 100 lbs in a year. I was sleeved in October. Even though I’ve lost 36 lbs so far, I am unable to be happy about it. I couldn’t see how bad it was when I was gaining but now that I’m loseing it, it’s very sobering. I suspect I won’t be able to be proud of my accomplishment until I’ve hit 100+ lbs lost.
