If you're going to eat almonds, you have to count them. 10 almonds, 100 calories. I eat them all the time. I have gotten hooked on 100 calorie packs of cocoa dusted almonds. yum yum. Dr. Oz recommends everyone eat almonds every day. they are a good healthy snack, and good for your good cholesterol. You just can't eat too many.

Pregnant w/ raging infection :-/ (DON'T GO TO MEXICO!)
hottytoddy replied to NataliesMommy's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
This site is about views and opinions, and everyone is entitled to theirs. I guess I can't understand why opinions can't be expressed, and even debated, with kindness. This thread has been anything but supportive to nataliesmommie. I am being banded in 10 days and came here for answers, advice and support. Well, let's just say I'm not exactly feeling the love here! Somebody please wave a white flag!!!! Through complications, successes and failures...We are all in this together! CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?! :think :tired :kiss2: :grouphug: :amen: -
I've found my grocery bill has gone down since ive been banded. There are five in my family, I've always bought good quality meat from a butcher and not the supermarket but now I no longer buy any rubbish from the supermarket, no more chips, biscuits, cakes, lollies etc. my trolley only consists if fresh fruit, vegetables and meat, chicken. If the kids do want chips from time to time they can go to the local Milkbar and buy a packet. If they are hungry there's always plenty of fresh fruit available to them. We never used to have a lot of take out but if we did with three men in the house just a trip to McDonald's would cost over $60. With $60 I can cook them enough fresh food for two good meals. And a pasta meal for under $10 that would also feed them for two meals.

Does anyone know about BC/BS OK?
chrisdirects replied to brew44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, all, I have CareFirst BCBS- they do pay for the surgery, but put you through the 6 month nutritional program first. I did that through my surgeon's office. He requires a whole slew of preoperative testing (seems like I've met every specialist in my area, lol!)- the insurance has paid for everything except 2 or 3 $10 office visit copays. I'm now waiting for them to issue my final OK so we can book the surgery. My surgeon has a backlog (too many cancellations because of the bad weather here), so I'm expecting to have it done in mid-March. Every BCBS policy differs in their requirements, so it's worth a check...you might also want to consult with the HR folks where you work to help you. Best wishes on your journey! -
Your fill thoughts.....
hamltmom replied to Whillow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You didn't say, are you getting enough liquids in? I too have a 10 cc band and am now at 6 cc's. I am having a rough time with it now. I spoke with my nutritionist today and she told me to go back to eating soft foods for a week or so. I just went up to the 6 cc's 1 1/2 weeks ago. I'm having back pain really bad, and we've decided that I must be overeating and that is my overly full feeling now. It's extremely uncomfortable. I was having troubles getting enough liquid in, but now that I've gone back to the soft foods, I feel like I'm getting closer to reaching my liquid intake goal. So if you're not getting enough liquids in, try to do so. It really does help to keep you feeling full. If you are getting enough liquids, then you probably do need another small fill. Good Luck! -
@@Fiqah87 Personally I use Fairlife milk and unjury chocolate Protein shake. I use 54 grams (two servings) and with 10 oz of the milk and the powder I wind up with 59.1g of medical grade protein that tastes like chocolate milk. It is absolutely wonderful. Certainly worth a try.

I took off about 10 days from work. I wish I had taken the full 2 weeks, because I was pretty tired when I went back to work. I have a desk job but I work long hours and have a long commute to and from the office. If you have the time take it and take care of yourself. If you don't a week will do it for a desk job, but you will need longer if you have to lift or carry anything heavy. I wasn't in much pain after surgery, the port was the most tender part for me for a while. Here are some tips of things to have on hand: Ice Pops (they help getting the fluids in after surgery and help with internal swelling as well as throat irritation) Decaf Tea (warm tea helped me with gas pain as well as soothing my stomach and getting fluids in) Hot Water bottle and/or heating pad (not to be used on wounds, but for under your shoulders or back for gas pain relief) Gas-Ex or Beano (for obvious reasons) Ice pack (To place on wound sites to help with swelling and pain. This was awesome for me at the port site) Tylenol (for pain. I didn't take anything stronger then this) Best of luck to you and let us know how your doing!

No bowel since surgery.. what should i do?
rocionelizalde replied to princesstia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve 12/19 I go to the restroom daily the Protein shake is what allows me to have a bowel. Maybe you should drink more protein?? Maybe you should bring this up to the doctor 13 days seems to be a long time Sent from my iPhone using VST -
I do not plan to tell anyone other than my husband and children. I do not even want their spouses to know. I do too have a hernia under my navel but my doctor does not want to remove it at the same time as the sleeve. He even says I may not need to have it removed. I do not want friends to keep asking why I will be losing weight so much faster than I have been able to lose for the past 10 years. They knew me when I was thin and hopefully they will just think I have finally been successful. I am so grateful to have all of my "new " friends on this page who know the struggles and heartaches we have been dealing with for many years. As far as why I am eating so much less or not at all, I plan to say that I finally found a food plan that is making me lose weight using Protein shakes etc. I will be sleeved in three weeks and I am nervous about what is to come. Yes, I would love to have my friends at my side as I know they would be BUT I am not ready to share this journey yet with them. Let all of you be new friends that will understand each other.

Hi Everyone! I got sleeves on 10/5 and I am down 22lbs but for the past week I’ve just stayed the same. Was wondering if this seems like a normal thing? Thanks!

10 Days Post Surgery And Worst Gas Pain Ever
farmgirl04 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like I said I am 10 days out and have developed the most awful gas pains up under my ribs on the left side. I can't take a deep breath it hurts so bad. Gas-x isn't helping because I think it is operative gas, hot pads aren't working. I'm hoping lying down will be okay because I just want to go to bed and wake up feeling better. I feel fine otherwise, have been walking the last 3 days so maybe it all moved around to one place. Gosh, I can't wait for it to stop! Sorry to be a downer, but moaning to someone helps, in my head at least. -

alwaysleo8364 replied to alwaysleo8364's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well most of my recovery went well. I did get pretty sick after the GI test the next day. The great drink they give you...NOT! Made me pretty sick after the test. There has to be a better way. Like you I have already lost 10 lbs since the surgery. Happy about that! I am walking around pretty good, but still have some pain. But I am sure in time that will all go away. Thanks for the up date! Yes I am looking forward to something other than soup and protein shakes! -
The First Steps are the Hardest
amber5281 replied to siddarhi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery on Thursday 10/8. I weighed myself today for the first time thinking I would have lost at least 5 lbs or so.. And I lost 1 lb!! I am really disappointed. How can I not loose more than that after 3 days of clear liquids? I start full liquids tomorrow and I am so happy!! I cannot stomach the idea of broth, juice or jello!! I did notice yesterday I could barely get my wedding ring on - so I must have been swollen from surgery. Anyone else having this problem ? How soon does the weight start coming off ? I want to see some results already !! -
Good luck to you! And thank you - you are a hero. I can tell you that I always had a hard time losing weight. Been dieting since I was 10 yrs old. But... my little tummy has made dieting so much easier. Some days I eat more than others for whatever reason but it’s much much less than I was pre surgery. Other days I’m not that hungry and I’m quite good with my food choices. I’ve lost 64 since aug 22. You can do it. Don’t worry about your doctor. They don’t understand how it feels to be us. I have found that hot water and lemon helps with water retention as well as pure cranberry concentrate mixed with water- from whole foods. Good luck! HW. 289 SW. 284 Height. 5’8

How did you decide?
Cervidae replied to weightglitch's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I chose the bypass for a number of reasons, key among them that I wanted as much help as I could get and because, statistically speaking, patients tend to lose more weight faster with the bypass and have a higher statistical probability of maintaining that loss over time. I started the process at a little over 400 pounds and my highest weight was 450, and I was soooo far beyond ready to get this weight off and actually move on with my life, asap. Now at over 13 months out, I'm down almost 200 since surgery and over 250 overall, and I've never been happier or healthier. I also can eat pretty much anything I want (had a bite of my friend's birthday cake yesterday and accounted for those calories) while still not even really desiring sweets/pop/etc. My blood work is perfect, I went from a size 34 to a size 10/12 and I'm pretty damn happy with my life. I also would do it over again a million times. p.s. - never had any dumping or malabsorption issues, most likely because I followed the plan PERFECTLY for like the first year. Now I'm at the point where I can occasionally treat myself while still generally eating really healthfully, and this was my goal all along: to be happy and healthy and actually be able to have a healthy relationship with food. Worth it beyond belief! -
How many do you have?
Delivered replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Onmywaytoslimville, Thanks for sharing a part of your story in this thread. Like you, I have set small goals to accomplish on this weight loss journey. I started out at 213 lbs, so my first goal was to enter onderland again...so I celebrated 199 lbs. I am currently 188 lbs., and my next goal is 180 lbs. and I plan to set goals in chunks of ten pounds until I reach my ultimate goal of 150 lbs. The smallest I have been in the last 10 or so years is 158 lbs., so I definitely look forward to losing some virgin fat. Good luck everyone and KUTGW...because we're worth it! -
I am 10 months out and could not be happier with my decision. I have lost more that 185 pounds and just purchased SIZE 6 jeans. My results have surpassed my wildest fantasies! That said, those first weeks are really tough, or were for me. When I was able to eat it didn't feel anything like a meal. I just wanted to feel normal again. Not with junk food or eating a lot, but having a meal that looked a bit like the plate you see with the recommendations for healthy eating. It takes time, but you will get there. Stay true to your plan. You are going to love the new you!

Thoughts on 2nd Surgery/breast lift and arms
kareyquilts replied to KarenG.'s topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Karen: I had my arms and breast lifted. My arms were lifted about 10 weeks ago. I love the breasts and am very happy with them. The scars don't bother me at all. My arms are a little different story. On my right arm the scar healed nicely and will lighten and look fine. The other arm has a very raised scar. I don't like the scar and feel a little self-concious about it. I do like the size of my arms now and they actually look small in clothes. I'm going to try and post some pictures this week end and I'll send you a link. I think I would do it all over, but not sure. -

1 year, 1 month after surgery and pregnant! Advice!?
ErinMarie replied to smellslikecoffee's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Don't feel like a failure! Life is a rollercoaster! I called my lapband doc right away. I was scared to death they would do a complete unfill, but he left it up to me. I decided to take out half of my fill bc my insurance at the time didn't cover my lapband appointments and I was swelling and had a hard time eating. Your doc may or may not want you to have some or all of your Fluid out, but I would hope that if you aren't having any issues then he would leave it alone. I think I was 10 or 11 weeks when I got my partial unfill. I would NOT have gotten an unfill if I could have handled it though. And good for you for wanting to go natural! I saw a midwife too, but I had to see a dr first so they could remove my 'high risk' status for having weight loss surgery. Depending on where you go, you may not have a choice, but my place was really cool about what I wanted. They did do a full nutritional panel (15 vials of blood) on that first appointment though just to make sure I wasn't deficient in any Vitamins or whatnot. I gave birth in a baby/natural friendly hospital. I think as long as you aren't deemed high risk (by the dr's office or your insurance) you should be fine. My lap band never got in the way of my pregnancy whatsoever. Congrats! Feel free to msg me for any questions -
Hi there -- I am scheduled for surgery on 2/1. I am on clear liquid pre op diet (broth, Jello, popsicles, etc.) without any Protein, and expect to be on the same diet post surgery, so far it has been 5 days and I have 10 days ahead of me. I feel really weak and exhausted. Has anyone else faced this? I am hoping it is like other things where once you hit a wall and move on it gets better ... wishful thinking, I suppose. Thanks. Cynthia

Made Myself A List For Stuff To Have At Home After Surgery....
herewegoagain replied to Jlewis229's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't buy protein you like now for the post op period. Taste buds change. Things I loved pre op gagged me post op. I am 10 days post op. I returned so many cans and bottles of protein in exchange for what my sleeve likes now. I also wanted to be prepared, but it didn't work. Good luck!
