Only a 1 day pre-op diet???
~winecountrygirl~ replied to ravenjeh's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
My surgeon puts you on a diet of regular foods for as long as you are seeing him before your surgery but it's not a liquid diet by any means, it's regular meals adding up to approximately 1200 calories a day. We never have to do a liquid diet. Just no food or drink from 6pm the night before surgery. I've lost 35lbs on his diet since 5/17 without any struggle or hunger. -
thought I would have lost more ..
Hottiemomma replied to katrinalud's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
U probably need to increase your calories to 1000 for a week and see if you lose. I had to increase my calories and start walking at least 30 min per day you will start to see the changes just hang in there. -
Ok Question About Calories
KellyL replied to crazycatlady8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing extremely well with your weight loss, congrats!! I don't see a problem with the protein bar as breakfast if it's not causing you to stall, and clearly it's not harming your weight loss efforts. Your calories look ok too. How many grams of Protein are you getting in per day? The protein bars usually have 20 or so. Also are you on a multi-vitamin with Iron? I don't see why you'd need the red meat except for the Iron content, if you prefer other meats and protein sources. Do you like chicken and does your sleeve tolerate it? What else are you eating through the day, please give me samples of your meals. I need tips from you with your weight loss! And then we can see if you're getting enough protein too. -

I am very aware of the rules for posting a message here. Please realize that I'm only looking for support. If there is anyone out there that hasn't lost weight with the lapband or is experiencing fainting spells, heart palpitations, inability to eat anything but full liquids even with the band fully deflated, problems with blood pressure. Then I need to talk. I was banded Sept. 9th, 2005. I have been through it, but I can't say any more due to the rules for posting. My BMI was barely 35. I weighed 190-195 in Sept. I weigh 190 now. I eat 200-500 calories a day, no lie. I realize that my case is unique, but I would never advise someone to endure what I have gone through. I've always eaten healthy and been an exercise fanatic, when I became sick at age 40 and gained loads of weight without additional caloric intake. I have seen many doctors and can't find the problem. I worked with a nutritionist for over 1 year and she said that she couldn't tweek my eating. Every one says I need to eat more food, then I got banded and I am suffering from all of the above. I am scared for my life. Please help singer1:help: -
Menu Blog I do push the limits of the food budget 1300-1500 calories per day vs. the typical 800-1200 quoted by most doctors. I do this for 4 reasons: 1) I think that they (the doctors) under estimate the amount of protein people need. The higher I keep my protein the better weight comes off. 2) I lift weights and feel I need the extra protein 3) I want to keep my metabolism in as high a gear as I can 4) based on my target weight 190 lbs. I won’t have to make many changes when I get there. Key for my Menu First, one of my key tools is Vitol Egg protein powder. Second is packing all my meal in 8oz plastic containers so I don’t have to guess. Third, we make most of the items below in a big batch on Sunday and uses them during the week. Fourth, sometimes you have to eat out, when I do I stick to fish or soups/stews they are easier to digest. Fifth, I avoid directly adding carbs because they make my hungry between meals. Breakfast (5 am) Option 1: 1 whole egg and 3 egg whites, 1oz low fat cheese and sliced peppers and mushrooms Option 2: 1 Cup Oatmeal with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Option 3: 1Cup fat free yogurt with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Mid-Morning (9 am) Option 1: 1Cup fat free yogurt with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Option 2: 8oz Diced Chicken Salad Option 3: 2 String cheese and 1oz. Almonds Option 4: MuscleMilk Protein Shake Lunch (Noon) Option 1: 1 cup Turkey Chili with 1 oz of Cheese Option 2: 1 cup fat free fried beans with diced, onions, peppers and salsa Option 3: 8oz Diced Chicken or Tuna Salad Pre Work Out Meal Late Afternoon (4 pm) Supplements – Nitric Oxide Drink with Creatine, Gummy Vitamins, Gummy Omegas Option 1: ½ Cup fat free yogurt with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Option 2: 4oz Diced Chicken Salad Option 3: 1 String cheese and 1oz. Almonds Option 4: MuscleMilk Protein Shake Post Work Out Dinner Option 1: 6 oz Ahi Tuna Steak in olive oil and lemon pepper Option 2: 1 cup chipotle chicken crock pot stew with carrots, onion, mushrooms, peppers Option 3: 8oz Chicken Brest Happy Eating

Anyone have issues with GOUTsince banding?
shortgal replied to make33's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is a black cherry juice concentrate you can buy ( health food stores probably) and make your own juice. But watch the calories/sugar with the juice, if you can tolerate the radishes, they're better as far as sugar/calories. -
Yogurt has been slowing me down - I SWEAR!
Wheetsin replied to christasha's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Low calorie tends to be high carb and vice versa. If you enjoy yogurt, and carbs seem to have that much effect on you, go for the low carb options over low cal/low fat. You can always omit it and add it from your diet to trend its effect. Maybe it was coincidence, but tracking it for a few weeks will help you figure out for sure. -
Wow! Your Dr.'s are nice! My Dr. had me on only liquids, sugarfree at that and low calorie for 2 weeks. Then I was on liquids for 4 more weeks after that. No more than 2-3 meals a day. I think that helped no solids what so ever. I am 3 1/2 months out from banding and still on mushies. I can eat solids like moist fish, shrimp, pork, any meat other than fish has to be really cooked and soft and not dry at all. I have that first bite syndrome and sometimes I am on only liquids. Sometimes liquids, red wine and chocolate. :faint: Only when my esophagus won't let me eat, then I self medicate with a little chocolate. I have lost about 55 lbs. My calorie count is way under 1000 calories, more like 600 at the most.

Be easy on yourself. Put your scale away for the next month. Your body just had major surgery, give it a break and cut yourself some slack. I know it's hard, I understand the longing to see the payoff for everything you've gone through to have this surgery. But, you just have to be patient. Let your body heal and recover. It's dealing with quite a bit right now - not only the shock of surgery, but the very low calories and little nutrition over the last few weeks. It *will* work, just focus on healing now.

What happened? Please help!!!
Guest replied to only1m3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably need to increase your calories and carbs. This is what my dietician told me when I started working out. -
I can't tell you to stay off the scale because I am just as bad. Well I was up to a week ago now I have or want nothing to with weight loss, the band, the scale or anything. Just in a rut... Anyway...hang in there...I do think you aren't getting enough calories in. When I was filled too tight..I was having like 300 - 400 a day and oh my goodness I was actually gaining most of the time. You will see when you eat mushies it will get better hang in there girl. Plus look at the exercise you are doing... me I am lucky to walk everyday. Oh and my throat has been hurting me the last 2 days...I think something is going around.

Ankle weights
BitterSweet* replied to mentalistfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wear ankle weights to work. I wear MBT shoes and do lots of walking. Between the shoes and the weights, it's a good way to just burn extra calories. The only thing that can help your skin be in the best shape possible is to do a lot of cardio and weight training. Lots of squats and lunges with heavy weights. Keep your Protein intake up, stay hydrated with Water, take your Vitamins, and keep your skin mouisturized. Builiding lots of lean muscle will help saggy skin look better. Also, losing weight slower gives your skin a chance to rebound better. As much as we want massive weight loss and we want it to happen quick, that drastic kind of change usually equates to hanging skin. -
Sounds like you know what the issue is here...and you need to get some professional help right away to deal with the drinking. Doctors and nutritionists say that the number one cause of failure in bariatric surgery is calorie containing beverages. You can stop your addictive behavior, but you're going to need some help outside of yourself. Good luck to you.

How do you track your calories?
MichiganChic replied to need2bthin!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use MFP too. I try to stay around 800-1000 calories a day, about 75 gm protein. Don't count carbs, though I avoid bread, rice, pasta. -
OMG this stall is horrible. Please help
dcmusicmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeves on August 12th and lost 22 lbs the first two weeks!! Fabulous. But then as soon as I started my mushy food I stalled and haven't lost a pound. Actually scale says I gained! It's been a week and I am so frustrated. I have been charting all my food and Water staying under 800 calories close to 70 Proteins and 48-64 oz of water a day but nothing is happening. Any tips to get this stall broken or motivational stories of similar happenings would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I will be the only sleeve unsuccessful story!! -
Thank you. I guess I have to count calories.

4 days post-op...really nervous/worried
longtimecomin replied to Clairabellleee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about feeling lightheaded? Is that fairly normal for 4-5 days post op? I'm afraid I'm not getting enough calories but I'm eating til I'm full. -
What has worked for me is to weigh and measure everything I eat (I have done this from the moment I was able to eat solids). I normally have 3-4 oz Protein and 1/2 cup veggies for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is either eggbeaters with 2% cheese and turkey sausage, greek yogurt or oatmeal. If you feel like you need a snack keep them protein-based like string cheese, greek yogurt, deli slices, etc. I find it helpful to track my food using an app on my Iphone (myfitnesspal) but at a minimum I would track your protein intake and calories...you want to make sure you are getting enough protein because that will help you feel full longer and will also help keep your energy up (my nutritionist recommends a higher amount that most people are told...80-120 g per day) and you want to make sure you are eating enough calories because too few calories can stall your weight loss. For me, the first several weeks of solids was about figuring out how my band works best for me. I initially stopped losing weight until I bumped my calories up to over 1,000 per day and after some trial and error I have figured out the calorie range that gives me the best weight loss. I also chose to limit carbs to under 40g per day because I have found that works best for me...again, that is my personal decision. Don't be afraid to play around with things for a while...I know the goal is to lose weight but if you can figure out how to best work your band, you will be successful...

4 weeks today and feeling BLOATED and SAD
clc1973 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today - I was the sexiest shopper in Walgreens - I purchased Gas X strips - because my stomach feels so bloated and almost pregnant - cant even suck it in, and I am constipated, so I bought liquid stool softener - on top of that gorgeousness, I also have a cold - so threw in some cold medicine. I have been up and down the same 3 pounds for 4 days - taking in MAYBE 600 calories a day - and exercising...I think my body is revolting against me...please tell me this will go away soon and the weight will drop again! -
to gain weight, one more take in more calories than they burn off..so as maddy stated, get back to what your dr advised you: your allotted amount of food, drink alot, fresh vs proessed, drink alot and def focus on protein..it keeps you full longer and fuels your body..best of luck on making that new baby (and have fun making it also)

Why am I craving chocolate every day?!?!
Daisalana replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You could be craving chocolate, because your body is craving sugar. If you're use to eating a lot of sugar, then stop eating a lot of sugar, just like your body craving anything it feels it needs.. it thinks it needs sugar! Mine is fruit.. when my body is aching for sugar, I get cravings for fruit.. all kinds.. and I don't really like fruit all that much! I like the 100 calorie packs of Pepperidge farm dark chocolate chip cookies.. num num. -
This may sound strange but I JUST happened on the Low Carb Banders Unite forum on here. Mostly I hang around the general discussion part. I had no idea there were low carb banders. I am happy to see there are other banders who agree that high protein/low carb WILL work. My fill doctor said, it's not about carbs, fat, etc. it's about calories. I agree to a certain point. However, in the past I've always done really well doing low carb, like a mix of the Atkins and South Beach diets BUT would get discouraged when stalling after the Water weight came off. I know deep inside, that high Protein, low carb is the way to go FOR ME. It keeps my blood sugar steady, which helps with cravings, etc. Somehow I always knew I could stick it out if I had help, which I now have with the band! I am soooo happy! so happy, so happy.... really, you don't even know. We know our own bodies and how can thousands of other low carbers be wrong? I am tickled PINK...

Hello Everyone. Well I’m 5 days post op, I was banded on 8/22/11. I must admit, it was a lot more pain than I thought it would be but the hospital was wonderful. The second and third days were by far the worst and everyday I feel better and stronger. I am only able to eat (or drink I should say) 300 calories a day. I should be getting 400 to 800 but my stomach is just still to swollen for any more. I have been making sure I drink all my Water and I walk around as much as I can. The Gas X have really helped with the gas. This journey is an amazing one, I’ve learned the past week that it’s going to take work because although your stomach says one thing our brain says another. I am looking forward to my new lifestyle and I wish you all the best. To all the Pre-Op patients, all I can say is give your body time to heal and remember to drink/eat slowly. SO very important!!!

Has anyone taken a month long break from active weight loss? Was it hard restarting the weight loss phase? I had major surgery the first week of December. The week prior I had to stop going to the Y due to Covid concerns. I admit I lost focus when it came to diet while recovering. I've increased my calories, especially carbs, more than I should have. But I didn't gain! I finally got the ok to start exercising again and I'm ready to focus on diet. Prior to surgery I was close to my goal weight but hadn't officially entered the maintenance phase. I'm curious if I can expect my weight loss to resume as prior to surgery or can I expect it to be more challenging since I have been in a 4 week self induced stall? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
