    Birth Control

So I have my surgery date which is in 3 weeks, I wanted I know will the surgery interfere with the birth control shot...one of the reasons I'm having the surgery is to get pregnant but I don't want to right after surgery! Which one works better with the surgery the shot or pill?
  2. Hi, I felt decent the day of surgery and the day after. The first week, I was not close to drinking recommendations from my doctor. Now I can sip 8OZ of chicken broth, protein soup, cream of wheat, in 25 minutes without discomfort. Trying to drink water, up two 50oz a day, today is Day 7 Today, I will be at 80 oz of protein. Saw my doctor on day 5, he says I am doing great. Walking a 1/2 mile twice a day.

    B12?

If you find that your B12 shots and Vitamins are not working, you may want to try Methyl B12 instead. My body doesn't use the other B12 correctly and it builds up to a very high level. When I switched to Methyl B12 it made a huge difference in my energy levels. I'm getting my labs done in a few weeks, so I'll see if the blood levels have decreased.

    Doing My Research

Hi Everyone! I just want to hear some of the best advise you can give regarding WLS the good the bad the ugly! I am an avid traveler and i am worried about how this will affect that, and your daily life! Is it different now? Are you happier? I suffer from anxiety i have never had any type of surgery and quite honestly it terrifies me. i have extreme anxiety about anything medical related and i have what i would consider "worst case scenario brain" i enjoy torturing myself and looking up all that could go wrong with the surgery... but i am so tired of feeling like this, and have seen so many beautiful success stories it motivated me! I have been the "chubby kid" my whole life. At this point i am more than chubby but i have such a hard time loosing weight. I feel like the Gastric Sleeve is my only chance at truly being happy. I am extremely tired of living in a body i am uncomfortable with and ashamed of. I hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel. I am attending my first seminar next week to find out the process of insurance acceptance. I am very hopeful but also worried i will get denied. <3

    Birth Control

I'm not too sure but I do know that my doctor told me stop taking my birth control these last weeks leading up to surgery. I guess they higher your risk of blood clots. I'm not having sex right now so I just stopped taking them completely. I'd ask your doctor about it!
  7. Hi all, I am almost 1 year out from my surgery date (I have lost 121 total pre-op and post op). I am going on vacation in 58 days (but who's counting) and I would like to lose another 15 pounds in that time. I don't think I can do it because I am losing much slower now. I do exercise 3-6 times a week (pretty intense workouts). I am wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions to help me get try to get to my goal before vacation. It's not my final goal I just want to be under 200 by the time I go on vacation. I thought I would be at my true goal now which is about another 55 pounds from where I am now. So I still have weight to lose, just very slow. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Just Starting

Welcome to the group. You will find a lot of great support here. Sounds like you are well on your way and surgery will be here before you know it. I can't believe that I start my 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow... time is flying by for me and it will for you too!!!
  9. I am five months out and only lost thirty pounds and I am seesawing between 278 and 285 I get all my protein, not all my veggies. I am worried about the amount of fat I am eating. I work out three to five times a week. Sometimes I can only take a few bites before I am sick then other times I can eat more then a cup of food. And now my hear is doing this and it's thin to begin with......any advice? Iamonlyhuman
  10. I have decided to postpone my surgery which was to be 10/29. My mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly nearly 2 weeks ago. This has been a great time of stress and grief in my life and I'm just not ready for another shock to my body. I will reschedule a few months down the road once I feel like I'm ready to handle the next step in this journey called life.

    Blow out

Lordy, that must cost a fortune over time! I expected to open this thread and find you'd eaten three boxes of Cookies or something, lol. But yes, that's what blow out means (here anyway). I used to get it done every now and then for special occasions. I wear a straight hairstyle but have fluffy, frizzy hair, so I have to straighten it with a straightening Iron every day since I cannot and will not ever be able to straighten it round a round brush with a hairdryer - its easy to roughly dry it and then fix it with the iron. Now I have this short, concave choppy bob, I absolutely HATE a blow dry unless its my hairdresser (I used to just go down to the no wait, no appointment salons that are everywhere here for a cheap blow dry) because they do it around a round brush and give it lots of body and it looks freaking awful - like a bank teller from the 1980's, lol. Its MEANT to be piecy and choppy! But my hairdresser can do it perfectly. But at $30 to $40 a pop I couldnt afford it regularly and being a runner, generally my hair gets washed and dried every day.
  12. I start my 6 month 2000 calorie a day diet tomorrow! I have to make a journal logging all my food intake & exercise 3 times a week. I'm excited for what's about to happen! I also have to go for a psych eval & also a seminar, I think I also have to meet with a dietician! I'm looking into the gastric bypass. Can anyone tell me more about it?

  15. I took a week off but I have a desk job and everyone is different. If you can aford it take a year off, i would.
  16. my two supplemental insurance pays for disability & hospital stay. however the doctor fills out the insurance papers and thats black and white. it is the doctor/surgeon discretion how long a patient is off; complications maybe? i had my gallbladder removed and was good the second week, but i was off six weeks.
  17. Well I have been completing my pre-op testing for my surgery scheduled 3/20/13. Last Saturday I went for my chest x-ray, gall bladder ultrasound, EKG and Lab work. Well Monday I receive a call from the surgeons office. I was thinking it was just to confirm they received all the results and everything looks good or maybe some of my levels are high or low. I listen to the voicemail and it's my actual surgeon calling!! Not his assistant, not a nurse the actual surgeon! I call back immediately worried about what he could say. He tells me my vitamin D is low (ok no biggie!) and my blood test says I'm PREGNANT.....what!?!?!? I have an IUD how could I be pregnant! I have had my TOM for the last 11 days!! Well ironically I had an appt with my gyno for my annual appt that same evening she did an ultrasound and I was in fact pregnant but miscarried......my emotions have been all over the place this week. I have been going for blood tests every 48 hours until my levels come back to normal. I finally received the call a few minutes ago that my surgery is still a go. I am happy that it's a go but my emotions are still all over the place.....how do I get pregnant on birth control.....how do I miscarry and not even know I'm pregnant....I wish I would have never known! Sorry to vent but only my husband knows I'm having this surgery so I feel lonely like I have nobody to talk to!
  18. I am so bummed! My surgery is scheduled for one week from tomorrow - 4/25. I had my Pre-Op appointment this past Friday, started my "blended liquid" diet on Saturday. Saturday woke up with a bit of a rash. Thought it was spider bites. Woke up YESTERDAY with the rash having spread a bit and wasn't itchy. I decided since I'm having surgery soon, I better get it looked at and get on something if I need to so it can be GONE for surgery. The ER doc told me I have SHINGLES!!!!!!!! I'm 34yo and have the darn shingles. They don't hurt, I'm not having ANY symptoms other than the rash. I'm waiting for my surgeon to call me back now to find out if this is going to delay my surgery. What a journey - I've come so far, I'm in THE HOME STRETCH and now THIS. BAH!
  19. Has anybody had the gastric sleeve surgery done in the Chicago land area? If so, can someone give me some recommendations? I'm going to a seminar at the University of Illinois medical center next week, but might wanna look into other hospitals for this procedure.

    TIRED?

I didn't struggle too too much with energy but did find I needed more sleep. I'm eight weeks out and starting having abdominal pain a few days ago-ended up in the ER with appendicitis but long story short, they found my potassium was dangerously low. I've never had a potassium deficiency before, so I wondered if it was WLS related. Might be something to look into-this can contribute to energy loss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Tomorrow is the big day!

Congrats and good luck! As someone else said there will be days you may ask yourself what you have done, but it's worth it! I had a minor set back, but I am about 8 weeks post op and hoping to move to stage five on Monday. I can honestly say I am just starting to feel like myself again!
  22. It has been a very difficult road since my Aug 15 surgery both mentally and physically. I wasn't keeping the liquids down, kept running to bathroom with the worst "issues" I think I ever felt in my life. Because I had to split all my meds in smaller sizes that meant I no longer could just pop them all in my mouth at once and be done so it was this prolonged agony of having to take them one by one and I got to the point where I just ended up not taking them for a few days. Naturally that only exacerbated my situation because now not only was I physically hurting I was also mentally hurting. At my one week post op appt the nurse saw my blood pressure was very low and I was very weak, then when I went in to the Dr I just broke down in tears. Told him about my mental health condition and how I wasn't taking my meds etc. He sent me straight to get IV fluids pumped in me. He also said I could go back to taking my meds whole. So every day since I have forced myself to take my meds and now I'm mentally back in shape. Physically I'm better than I was, including no more bathroom issues, but still not feeling great. I have my "real" post op appt tomorrow with the Dr who did my surgery (last week was a different Dr because mine was on vacation) and I'll see what he says. From a weight loss perspective I lost 15 lbs pre surgery over about a three well period, and I'm guessing tomorrow's weight will have me about 12-15 lbs down at two weeks post surgery. If I look at my food log it seems I've only averaged 300-500 calories per day. I know that can't be good. And I'm probably only drinking 25-30 oz water which I know isn't good. I'm probably gonna get smacked tomorrow by the Dr but I truly feel so awful when I try to eat or drink. I initially planned to go back to work this Wed but I postponed it a week but I'm not even sure I'll be ready by next Wed. Not sure if any of this answered your question but it's the journey I've been on. And it's been so very difficult.

  25. Relax and stay busy. The fear of the unknown is what is scary. At age 66, I felt so great I honestly wondered if they really did anything to me. I spent about 8 hours in the hospital, before and after, the sleeve took 30 minutes total, I took ONE pain pill at home, was shopping and walking four days later, and felt like a million dollars with hope for the future. Everyone hates the two week before and after foods, but we all did it, and seriously it's like getting our pacifier taken away when we can't eat what we want. After surgery you 88042971I'll be able to eat anything and everything. It is your choice. You just cannot eat as much! Best of luck.
