I am six weeks out from bypass… Feeling very discouraged, only 23 pounds lost, dealing with major constipation and can hardly eat anything other than yogurt and cottage cheese… I hope I didn't go through all of this for nothing

Sleeved on 12/19. I still do mostly shakes. I also eat Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt 1/3-1/2 of a container at a time. I am supposed to be able to have mushy/soft foods as of now, but I may hold off a bit. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

When can I start eating a little more? Tomorrow I will post op 4 weeks. I am fortunate that so far I have had no issues. I have only told 3 people about my surgery. I have lunch plans with a client today and I am So nervous about eating like a bird in front if her. Right now I can drink 16 oz Water in 3/4 of an hour. Same with 11 oz premier Protein shake Soups go down pretty easy. As does Greek yogurt. It takes me 2 hours to eat egg and chicken salad. At one sitting I probably can eat between 1-2oz. I am very pleased with my sleeve. I just want some spence of normalsey. I would be so grateful if eventually I could eat 4oz at one setting. When did everyone start to eat a little more? Thanks

When you deny craving it can make you want them more. Keep healthy options for sweet and salty cravings on hand. Real food stage You can make old favorites in a healthy way. No need to add extra calories and gain weight. Make sure my examples fit your food plan and stay within your weight loss calories/macros for the day. (log your food) Try to satify cravings with real whole foods first. Pizza mushroom cap pizza bites or cauliflower crust pizza – add lots of veggies use the meats allowed on your plan. Limit or omit cheese depending on your plan. turkey meatballs dipped in pizza sauce Hamburgers – Turkey burgers – You can buy butter ball frozen patties for convenience or make your own. I place them on a bed of salad add pickles, tomato and onion. Optional olive oil mayo and mustard. Or a lettuce wrapped burger - Chips – Salty cravings crisp veggies dipped in hummus or any low calorie dip – to cut the calories in hummus I add plain yogurt quest protein chips. They are made from protein powder. The flavor is better if you dip them in salsa. I like the BBQ or nacho. I try not to make these a habit. (processed food) I use them as a snack to kick a craving. beef or chicken Jerkey chicken fajitas no tortilla Sweet – Dannon light n fit Greek yogurt - option freeze to make popsicle Protein bar or shake Small amount of strawberries – option dip in hersheys sugar free cholate syrup

I used it like crazy when I had the band. I mixed it into yogurt, Protein shakes, sauces for chicken and for baked goods. I don't think you can beat the flavor when you factor in the reduced fat. However, I still love Trader Joe's no sugar added Peanut Butter the most. I add 3 packets of splenda to the whole jar, mix well and keep in the fridge. PB2 is an excellent product. Just need to find ways to use it that you'll love.

When to transition from liquids to soft foods
RickM replied to Mkak6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes - this is a transition, rather than a step change (liquids only, then next week no liquids and just mushies). Try new things one at a time to check for your tolerance to it - if it goes well, then great, add that item to your menu and continue trying new things. If it doesn't, try something else and try that item again in a couple of weeks. Our program gave us the option to transition between the liquids, mushes and soft things as we could tolerate them, and go back and forth as needed (scrambled eggs, yogurt and pureed thing in the hospital). You usually wind up with a blend of things on the menu for a while as most protein will still come from shakes as that is where you can get the volume needed, but the stomach usually appreciates the "physical therapy" of working on small amounts of the more solid things. -
Hello I had surgery October 1, 2012. February 1, 2012 is when I first saw the surgeon to get this ball rolling, literally, lol. I have spent so much time and effort into this life changing moment, that now, after its actually done, I am kind bored with it. That's probably weird to say, but its how I feel. I am not having any complications or pain, no regrets, and everyone is being supportive. But...the hype is over for me. I used to be excited about food, trying new foods, and experiencing new flavors (maybe that was my problem), but since being on a liquid diet for almost a month now, I am bored with it. Soup, broth, yogurt, Jello, and Protein shakes. Plus, the scale isnt moving and I am not too excited about jumping on. Its like, eh...whatever. Just like all the fad diets, I have done before. Maybe its because I have been a hermit since surgery, but I need some kind of motivation... How do I get out of this funk??

2 years out - what is your daily menu like?
IveGotThePower replied to crazyplantlady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
20 months out from VSG. I eat pretty much low carb meat and veggies. But I do include some fruit and dairy. No refined sugar. Very little Stevia here and there. No processed food. Omelets with lots of veggies and some cheese, Salad w/chicken or fish. salmon, mussels or shrimp. Spinach, onions, green peppers, brussels sprouts, green beans, asparagus and sometimes some sweet potato. Cheese sticks, almond milk or Fairlife whole milk. Greek organic yogurt, cheese sticks. Still do shakes maybe a couple of times a week because Iike them. Sometimes berry and vanilla and sometimes chocolate coffee. Or even Fuzzy Navel (Syntrax). Grass fed beef burgers too. Some bean or lentil dishes. Nuts and roasted edamame and peanut butter. Fruit, frozen banana ice cream with dark chocolate. I really don't feel limited, there are so many good options. -
I remember feeling similarly. Scared to put anything in my mouth in case I threw it back up or had it get stuck. Just start slow with whatever you're comfortable with. Some apple sauce? Yogurt? Soup? Something that will slide down easy. Then slowly progress to the things like mashed veggies, egg salad, etc. I'm 3 weeks out as of Monday and I'm eating fish and chicken, potato salad, egg salad, cooked veggies, lots of low fat cheese! Life is feeling normal again.

Question for Those 1 Year+ Out
MichiganChic replied to livvsmum's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm just under 11 months out, and I can eat anything I want. I have to be really careful. For me, that means weighing and measuring food, counting and tracking calories, and following the general rules for gastric sleeve patients. I don't think of it as dieting. I think of it as doing what I need to do for success. I usually have a Protein shake for breakfast, greek yogurt and string cheese for lunch with a few grapes, nuts for an afternoon snack, and meat/vegetable for dinner. Some days I have a snack at bed time, depending on how many calories I've eaten and if I'm hungry. I could easily eat a lot more than I do. I try to keep it close to 900 calories, but lately I'm having a hard time staying below 1100. I, too, am surprised at how few calories and carbs it takes me to lose weight. No wonder i was so fat! -
Isopure unflavored protein powder...how do you use it?
BLERDgirl replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a matter of taste. I like it and add it to pretty much everything. Soups, tea, my yogurt, etc.... If you don't like Ispoure Genepro and Syntrax Nectar also make and unflavored version. Remember unflavored doesn't mean flavorless, it just means there's no added flavorings or sugars. Adding stronger flavors to it helps. I add a dash of hot sauce to my soups or a bit of lemon to my tea. -
I'm 5 wks post op. My dr said I can start trying different foods. I was probably able to get about 3-4 bites with a baby spoon. I don't think eating the whole thing in one day is a good idea due to the high sugar. My dietician doesn't want me to have more the 20 grams of fat a day. She wants me to eat more lean protein and veggies since I was mostly eating yogurt cottage cheese and soft cheese she said that's to much dairy. It's also hard to prepare a meal for myself when I know I'm only going to eat about 1/4 th of it. Just thought Atkins would be a good choice. But yeah ur rite to much sodium and processed.

You need to make good food choices. McDonald's is not a good food choice. Chicken nuggets are terrible for you. Good proteins first and then non-starchy veggies. Things like REAL chicken, fish, etc and none of it breaded or fried. String cheese, cottage cheese, low carb low sugar yogurt, eggs. If you are hungry for a snack you can even indulge in a little bit of hummus or roasted almonds... yum. Or do a google search for chicken crust pizza and make yourself a delicious, healthy, low carb, protein packed pizza. You have to change the way you are eating, the sleeve is only a tool. How we use it is up to us. Also, remember, if you are getting hungry often.... carbs bring on hunger. Protein helps fill you up. Try to keep that protein between 90-100 grams a day and keep those carbs under 40 grams a day. If you aren't already using it, use myfitnesspal to keep track of your carbs, protein and calories.

Hey there and welcome to VST. I agree with the other ladies that mentioned that size of bougie sounds quite large compared to the "standard". I have a 32F with no oversewing, and at 4 months out, I can get in 4oz of mushies, or 2-3oz of dense Protein, NOT simultaneously. I can eat almost an entire cup (6oz cup of Yoplait Light)of yogurt, but it takes me over 30 minutes to eat all of it. I also revised from the band to the sleeve and it was the very best decision in the world.

I don't even know when I started eating a yogurt everyday . . . but I did - and the other day I was looking at the label for some other reason, and the dang CARBS caught me totally by surprise . . . OMG . . . I stopped eating them daily, and the scale has started to move again. (I know, I know - if I logged my food . . . yadda yadda yadda - it ain't going to happen in my lifetime) . . . Anyway . . . maybe it's just coincidence and it was about to move anyway - but the only way I ever lost weight (preband) was keeping the carbs WAY down . . . and I think they were out of control right now. Wahoo! I'm a happy camper and fading to skinny (alas - very slowly lol). Have a great day everyone! Chris

Not losing weight at all, just want to cry. Help!
AmusedMuse replied to AmusedMuse's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wish it were that simple but I am not 'stalled', I am gaining weight. I misspoke above and am only 2 weeks out of surgery, not 3. I am following exactly the diet the nutritionist gave me, but your point about Protein is a good one. I've been eating salmon for protein, and sugar free yogurt, but still have several days to go before I can begin to add things to my diet. The nutritionist seemed more concerned about malnurishment than weight loss and though I was told to have protein, I was given no target amounts. For years I have tracked my foods and weight and I have never eaten much in the way of starches, sugar, or fried foods and haven't started in the 2 weeks since my surgery. In fact, having had 1 day of terrible pain and vomiting since my attempt at a scrambled egg gave me a blockage, I am scared to eat much at all and am very careful not to overeat. -
I am 1/2 way thru my workday and this is my first day of the pre-op diet(to shrink my liver). I seem to be holding up pretty good. I have decided to write down everything I eat to hold myself accountable. I had a slimfast lowcarb high protein(20g) shake for breakfast. I didnt have any hunger feeling all morning. Had my morning snack of yogurt(70 cals/0 fat). Our workplace has a gym so I am fortunate to be able to workout. I decided to do 30 min on the eliptical since I can't really eat. I am sitting at my desk now having my same kind of shake for lunch. So far so good. Pray for me. Thanks to you all!!:smile2:

Onight Oats (For Maintenance Folks)
suzcomptime replied to SKCUNNINGHAM's topic in Vegetarian, vegan, raw foods
So no cooking?.....I usually cook my steel cut oats (big pot) cool and then refrigerate and eat through the week, this sounds even better. Using the yogurt and protein powder is a great way to up the protein and then to throw in the fish oil gets that out of the way without the ewww taste. Thanks for sharing. -
Able to eat more in the evening????
abbylamb replied to italia2020's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my surgeon told me to expect to be tighter in the mornings, and that my stomach will feel looser in the evenings. in fact, he told me that he adjusts for evening, not for morning, and that I probably won't be able to eat for several hours after getting up and that I should only have a protein shake or yogurt as my first meal of the day. -
Posting about fast food and unhealthy junk
Clementine Sky replied to xoxococojay's topic in Rants & Raves
I've had junk food and fast food since having the VSG in August of 2015, but sporadically. I don't think it's audacious to make a thread about it here. Sustainability has been my goal, and for me, not feeling deprived is a significant part of it. Eating a kids meal with fruit instead of fries at Chick-fil-a, or a reasonable meal at El Pollo Loco once in a blue moon, or having frozen yogurt hasn't had much impact on my weight when I'm working out and eating sensibly overall. It does have a beneficial impact on my wellbeing. When something is a forbidden fruit I crave it more, so not making anything forbidden actually lessens temptation rather than increasing it. Other people might feel similarly, or have their own method for incorporating the occasional fast food meal while still being successful. I do stress that it is imperative that you wait until your stomach is fully healed, and that you develop healthy lifestyle habits. If you're going to eat fast food, you can utilize the nutrition information posted on their sites to make better choices.
