MARIJUANA QUESTION??? Pre-op
MoniqueD replied to MoniqueD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definately want to stay alive. Let me set the record straight! I am no where near addicted. I was an occasional user. I have not indulged since recieving my surgery date. The last time was 8/20. My surgery is on 10/14. That is approx 8 weeks. Hopefully it will be undetectable. What do you all think??? -
Pre-Op Milk shakes?
mountain_lover replied to mountain_lover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your suggestions, I am going to go to my doctor and buy some samples to try out before I buy the large order. I still have a little more time before I will find out if I get approved for the surgery and when to start on the two weeks of shakes, so I will go get them right away!! -
So confused? Thought I did my homework
Djmohr replied to Hertsukfem31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Hertsukfem31, I think many people answered this but I would just reaffirm that you are right, if you stuck to eating per the plan 3 meals a day with no Snacks the restriction from your surgery would probably help you to lose weight and maintain that weight. The reality is you can eat around your tool by grazing all day long and putting the wrong things in your new stomach. Logging your food helps you remain accountable to what you are eating and helps you to recognize when you have gone off plan. It is very easy to go off plan once you are healed, some of those habits creep back in. I don't measure everything, I have the most success when I eat 2 bites of Protein for every one bite of good carbs (fruits/vegetables). If I choose to have something in between I usually choose healthy protein heavy snacks. When I have gone off plan (usually vacation), I find myself either losing slower or even gain a pound for that week. It is very easy to get out of control if u let yourself. WLS is very hard work and clearly a lifelong commitment. Anyone that says it is easy and the weight falls off and remains off is full of it. Let them live a month in our shoes and they will get a taste of reality. Good luck to you on your journey, I am sure you will do great as you are still doing your homework! -
Post Surgery Needs for Out-of-State Surgery
Oregon Rose posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi- I am wondering if the incisions will be sore? Will a bra, waist level panties, or elastic-waisted pajamas irritate the incisions or make my stomach sore? Advise is appreciated regarding what kind of clothes to bring. I will be staying in a hotel for a week after surgery. Any advise about what to bring beside a good book? Best wishes :smile1: -
When I got my pre-op lab results pack, my Vit D was also low. The nurse said it's like that for almost all of their female patients. Who knows if I was experiencing any symptoms? Anyway, they prescribed Vit D for 6 weeks (one pill a week), and now I'm supposed to take 2 Caltrate 600 +D every day. This is calcium and Vitamin D combined.

How long was it before you could exercise?
ParrotheadCathy replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Erin, it doesn't sound like it's really heavy cleaning so I'd say give yourself 3-4 days if you can. Then for another week or so, don't push the vacuum with the hand on the side of your port because it could make it sore. At first, don't lean over, squat down .... and I think you'll be fine. -
Thanks. Sorry it has taken so long to answer. Computer problems off & on. I am now down 89.5 lbs. You're welcome to visit on my porch anytime. I wish you could see all of it. It is a very long "L" shaped and is pretty wide. I have flowers, lots of different seating places and a three tiered fountain in one corner surrounded by ferns.

Name: Jenn (aka PNW Red) Date you were banded: April 22nd Weight loss to date: 15 since surgery, 48 total How are you feeling?: I'm feeling pretty good. I haven't lost anything in two weeks, but I sure don't feel like I need a fill based on what I'm eating and how I feel. I'm trying to actually get my calories UP a little so that I'm around 1,000 since I'm totally stalled out.

Hi Bobbil, I was also banded on 4/21 and down 16lbs the first 6 weeks, at first I thought it should be more but then again I didn't gain it over night. My doctor was also happy with my loss. Since my first fill I have dropped a few more and my energy level is awesome. And that does count for something.

Getting band in august and scared please help
Rutiglius replied to missyvon2u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went without a hitch. I had little to no pain -- but everyone is different. I have been banded 4 1/2 weeks, and have had NO nausea. I haven't thrown up, or been "stuck". I have had NO complications!! I have lost almost 20 pounds in 5 1/2 weeks, and I only had to do the pre-op diet for 1 week. So, most of my weight loss is post-operative. I love my band, but I do somewhat miss all the "bad" foods I used to eat. However, I am too excited about losing the weight and keeping it off to get too bothered by it! I was very scared before my surgery, because face it, this is a life-changing event. Now, I wouldn't change it!! -
I had surgery almost 2 years ago. I have gained back 20 of the pounds I originally lost. I now officially have only lost about 15lbs from the day I had surgery. I did better on my own with the motivation of getting surgery. I actually lost over 40lbs on my own so that I could get surgery. I am filled 7.5 cc in my 10 cc band. I have no restriction and my Dr. does not want to fill my band any more until I lose more weight. I have heard if I try liquids for a week or so it will help me get some restriction back. Does any one know if this is true? If so would it be clear liquids as well as full liquids? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I could just cry, UHC who makes the decision??
Jodi_620 replied to Becky Lou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may not take 30 days to get approved. I have UHC and was approved in less than a week. A third party did the approval and the approval letter came from them with an approval code. -
Liver biospy with sleeve procedure?
attitudefree posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went for my pre anesthesia screening yesterday for sleeve surg Sept 21st. When they got to the consent it had- the sleeve surgery and a liver biopsy included. I don't have a single liver issue. When I asked for an explanation the girl said it may be for a study but they can make sure you don't have hepatis, fat liver disease, cirrosis blah blah blah. I don't have any symptoms to even think I have problems with my liver. So I didn't sign the consent. I have a meeting with my surgeon next week and will talk to him about it. I really don't want them just doing a biopsy on my liver for the fun of it. Anyone else ever had this done during surgery? -
If it is not bleeding or oozing in any way and it looks like it is healing well, I wouldnt worry too much about it. Just give your doctor a quick call in the morning. At two weeks post op the majority of your healing is done and you should just be careful. Definitely avoid picking at any other scabs though. You will already have a scar just by having surgery, but it will look nicer in the long run the less you touch it.

Well, technically still my first since I freaked out the first time. But, I need it for sure! The past few weeks have been not so good. I lost focus, ate larger portions, drank wine, ate when I wasn't hungry, etc. The scale shows it, too. Funny how that happens and how surgically altering my body still hasn't made that fact stick in my brain yet! OK, all that is in the past. New start, new focus and a fill. I also picked up a copy of Jackie Warner's book "This is why you're fat". I learned a lot about sugar and its addictive hold. I went through my pantry and was shocked at how much sugar is added into "good" food! My favorite Kashi cereal has 13 grams per serving and I eat it with skim milk which has another 13 grams of sugar! Good grief! I'm going to follow her nutrition & exercise advice and see how it goes. I am ready for Onederland for sure! My goal is to be there before the start of basketball season, November 1st. I'll keep posting, that has a way of making me accountable!

So, it didn't hurt too bad? You were banded the day before me. I have my first fill next week and I keep wondering if it is going to hurt. You are doing great with the weight loss. I am kinda stuck. I don't feel any restriction now.

Thanks. I am sure that I will have many questions in the weeks ahead. Everyone this board seems very supportive. [/url]

Dr. Nease was my Dr. I was banded on 5/12/08. I liked him and his staff very much from the get-go. I felt he was very personable and he treated me with respect - and that means so much! My one week follow-up (post-op) was not great, but there was some confusion about my appointment date...not the fault of Dr. Nease. On the day of surgery, I actually saw him very little - just a few moments, but just knowing he was going to be there when I was under made me feel calmer...I just felt secure in his ability. I went home the same day...I actually stayed in a hotel overnight because I didn't feel up to a four hour drive. It all happened very fast, but it was ok, I have done ok, and the surgery went fine. Best of luck, and if I can help or answer any questions about the experience I had at Cabell Huntington, just let me know. This is all new to me, but I will offer any support I can.

Once a week, EVERY month, I feel like I am battling the PMS cravings vs. healthy eating for my lap band. Any good advice or strategies to deal with this issue? I crave SALT and CHOCOLATE. . .. urgh~!

banding Tuesday what if my liver is not shrunk enough?
erywn posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so I went to a pre-op class a few weeks ago. In the class they told of a gal who did not follow the pre-op diet and when the doctor opened her up her liver was way to large to cont the procedure. I have been on the pre-op diet for nearly 2 wks. I have followed it nearly to the T. I have a diffused fatty liver and I have a fear my liver will still be to big to finish the procedure. Is this a problem and what are the chances of this happening:sad:? -
Ok I was sleeved on 3/16 and to this day have lost a total of 23 lbs. I lost those quickly within the first 2 1/2 weeks. I've been at a stall since last week and still nothing. Its aggravating! I kno I'm not getting my protein completely but I am getting a little. Probably about 40 grams a day..and not enough water either, it takes me a half day to drink a bottle even with crystal light. Ugh! I'm so upset! Hellllp

If You Were An Emotion Eater Before Lapband Surgery
lanie527 replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had similar experiences with binge eating and the band does help me. It limits the volume of the binge. When I am stressed out I want white cake. In the past I would buy a whole cake and several other binge favorites and now I can buy a piece of cake. It takes me two days to get through it and then I am satisfied for a month or so. Most of the time I eat healthy protein and veggies, but I find that if I recognize why I am eating the cake and allow myself to enjoy that cake; I am able to feel the difference between wanting and needing food. Everyone eats for emotional reasons at some point, the beauty of the band is that it slows down the amount and, for me, the frequency of binges. I was low-carb for three years pre-band and re-gained all 130 #s when I stopped low-carb. With the band, I can eat a small amount of carbs with no ill effects, I am eating a more balanced diet and so the carb cravings are less severe. Best of luck and remember it is a process. Lanie -
Just curious: What and how much do you post banders eat?
marie715 replied to marfar7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you are going to get quite a wide variety of answers to your question. For me, breakfast is a few spoonfuls of Special K Cereal, dry. lunch is 1 to 2 ounces of Protein such as egg salad or leftover fish. Sometimes a slice of bread. dinner is 2 ounces of protein. If I have a snack it is usually sugar-free instant pudding and fat-free Cool Whip. All eating stops by 7pm to avoid acid reflux. I eat vegetables and fruits maybe twice a week. I have been banded since Sept. 4, 2008. I don't regret it for one minute. I have lost 83 pounds. It is a miracle for me. Best of luck to you in your lap band journey. -
3 1/2 Weeks Out And Stalled Again
AllForMy4 replied to lovePINK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
20 pounds is awesome in a month! I lost 20 pounds in my first month(24 now,at 5 weeks out) and it feels great! If you lose another 20 every month, your excess weight will be gone in no time girl!! Just have to give it time, and let your body take it's own course. And yes, those pounds are never coming back,it's not like those yo-yo diets we've all done before where we lose a bit, stall, then give up and gain the weight back and then some, our sleeves will keep working as long as we utilize them right, they will get us through the stall and probably lose a couple extra pounds after. Even if you do lose the weight slower than others, you're still gonna lose it. ((HUGS))
