Post-op cravings for bread
kmiller replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 months post op and I've been able to eat bread for a long time. I RARELY do it, however. I find that if I want to have a piece, I do. For me, moderation is the key. To say or think I will never be able to have foods I like again just makes me want it more, so if I want it, a very small piece is what I allow myself occasionally. I hope that helps. -
colds when sleeved?
S(he) be(lie)ve(d) replied to KarenF1972's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was Sept 8th. At my 3 week post-op mark, my kids brought home head lice. I had to clean like a freak, do massive amounts of laundry and treat & check 3 heads, plus mine. My hubby just shaved his hair. Lol! I paid for it by over doing it and actually ended up taking some pain meds I had left over, plus some valium from having my hiatal hernia repair done at the same time, as well. Because I over did myself, I ended up getting sicker than a dog with a nasty head cold. I had been down for 4 days and completely exhausted. I could not function. Then my 8 year old comes home with a concussion. Oh dear God! I am at wits end. I literally cannot handle anything else right now. My husband has been a saint thru this whole thing. I ended up calling my Nut because I was having extreme pain in my left shoulder on my collar bone when I would eat. It would last for 15 minutes afterward. She told me to take a step back in my foods and go back to really soft mushies. October 7th, my birthday, would have been the day when I can eat normal foods. My nut said it is a referred pain from my hiatal hernia repair. My esophagus is enflamed, as well as my hiatal hernia repaired area. So, eating won't be as easy again until the swelling goes down and the coughing settles down too. I also have to increase my Protein in take to 100g and no less than 64 oz of Fluid everyday. My body is trying to still recover from surgery and is also really trying to fight a nasty cold. So, it doesn't leave me with much of anything to have any energy at all. I am grounded to the couch for another 2-3 days to recover. I've already been there for 4 days. I think I've grown roots already. Ha! I hate just sitting/laying down doing nothing. But, I also feel horrible. I've also been advised not to go to a funeral that is out of town for obvious reasons. Either have to take care of getting myself feeling better and stay on the down low or end up in the ER. So, I am being a couch potato and sprouting roots. Being sick with the sleeve in the 1st month of recovery makes everything about 10 time harder. Trust your doctors and keep healthy, even if you have to post pone. Hopefully, my light at the end of the tunnel will appear in the next couple days. I am so anxious to not be sick anymore and just focus on becoming the healthy me again!!! -

Swallowing with pain
IndieDivaIN replied to Malinda Paulson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post op and feel bloated and distended too. taking big sips of liq seems to make it worse and esp after my 1 oz of pureed food. I found 10 mts of walking and Gas x strips to help and take small sips of liquids. Also that 1 oz of food i get in 30 mts. Walk after eating seems to help things pass along better. When the pouch is empty feels better. Think we need to gauge how much we can tolerate. Hope this phase passes soon -
Discomfort under my ribs on the left side. 10 weeks post op.
Cher2017 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 weeks post op and I'm doing well except for some discomfort/pain I'm getting on my left side. It comes and goes and I can't work out what causes it. I find that I can't bend down to shave my legs for long and I have to stand back up. Some days it's fine and other days it's terrible. Yesterday was a bad day and found myself pushing and rubbing my tummy on the left side all day. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -
I Got Banded By Dr. Wade Barker (he Was Great) On Fri. 08-19-05. Im Doing Great Thanks To All For Yor Help.

I finally have the green light to eat pureed and soft foods but I'm really struggling. Anything I eat - outside of Protein Drinks - I throw up. I thought maybe I was eating too much or maybe too fast so I weighted out 2 oz of rotisserie chicken and pulsed it in my Ninja. I took 10 minutes to eat it. Still no go. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions on things to try? Is this normal?

Getting Frustrated (with myself)
sueob1968 replied to diekoi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could set break time, and take 10 minute walks, 3 or so times a day. Do stairs as much as possible. Every bit of effort will help and as you feel better, you will continue to make the effort. You need to put yourself first. A few minutes won't put you that far behind. Maybe get an ear piece for conf. calls and lift hand weights? you have to think "outside the box". Good luck-you can do it! -
Need Advice! Please, Share Your Journey!
TisTrue posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay Safe and Hopefully Well/Healthy Everyone! Hi, I got the Loop Duodenal Switch almost a year ago, done June 2019. Please, if you post, say the surgery without abbreviating it, as I am not familiar with the initials/abbreviations of the surgeries, unless you want to post a list that would be appreciated too. I wanted to know if you ever experienced losing weight too fast. If so, did it ever slow down, or did you gain it back? I have been told that I might have to have revision surgery because I am losing at the same rate as when I first got surgery, which will be a year ago in June. I don't want another surgery, as it was pure hell the days and weeks after surgery, for multiple reasons. I was told that I could go as low as 95 lbs, but I am already at 134 now, supposedly one will slow down weight-loss once they have reached 50% of weight-loss or something to that degree for the Duodenal Switch Loop. I am just curious as to if you wouldn't mind sharing what your weight-loss journey has been like if it has been more than 1 year and especially if it has been more than 2 years. Were there any concerns over losing too fast? If so, what helped without a revision surgery? I have to say at one point weight-loss was fast, I was able to slow it down after I was told that I would need revision surgery after the 1 year mark, mostly by food journaling. This COVID-19 ridiculousness got me off track again of losing slowly even though I went back to journaling. I hate to say this but with my own journey, Although I start off by listening, I find that some of what a nurse/Dr. says sometimes is crap, so I want to make sure that the talk of me needing revision surgery is not more, crAp. What have you done, Help! I know that it may seem like a ridiculous thing to be alarmed about but I really can’t handle another surgery so I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what worked for you besides revision surgery. Thanks! -
It's always a good idea to talk to your surgeon when you have more pain than expected and the swelling you describe so they can confirm if you need to be seen. I had my band out in August of 2019. For me, my incision where the port was removed was larger than when it was put in. I also had a small hard section there for a while - maybe the size of a ping pong ball --- my Dr. told me they pull the tubing and all out through that area. I also recall it taking a 3 or 4 weeks before the pain went away completely but it was never significant --- I didn't need anything more than OTC painkillers.

I was banded last Thursday 12-19-13. I just started my phase 2a which is full liquids. I know it consists of cream Soups, puddings, yogurt and I start my Protein shakes this week. imm wondering if I should be feeling full when I eat at this stage? I know some people said on here that with their band they get a pressure feeling but I haven't felt that yet. im still in some pain from surgery and think that maybe that could be why. I also keep getting like a "gas" feeling through my stomach when im getting hungry and after I eat. I am ot sure if it is from the gas the put in me during surgery but that should be gone by now right?? Any advice would be appreciated and also if you have any other foods I could eat on this stage that would be great too!

I was banded 2/18/13. I am down 43lbs. I have had two fills. One fill was 3cc the other one was this past Monday and it was 2cc. I have a total of 5cc in a 10 cc band. Here's the thing with the first fill nothing and hungry in between meals. The second fill which was three weeks later Im not hungry in between meals. I'm very satisfied on 4oz of food per meal. I am scheduled for another fill in two more weeks. Is this considered the green zone? Is it possible to be there so quickly? Would u all things considered have another fill? Anxious to here your opinions. Thank you.

also for the newbies - I am 13 months post-op. I want to echo the first 8-10 weeks are the hardest - stay with it - hope for smooth sailing but expect setbacks large (complications) and small (food upsets and problems) Find a few things to eat that go down easily and stick with those for a while. I ate cottage cheese for lunch and sometimes dinner for months! It tasted good and went down easily, find what works for you. Take it one day at a time and don't obsess about the scale! Best of luck - there is light at the end of the difficult beginning times!

Great job . Sounds like you're doing everything spot on, especially checking in with your NUT. I'm only going on 10 weeks post-op revision to sleeve, and I'm so grateful that I had WLS. Keep us posted! ^^

Lifting post op..
AmyInOrlando replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc is really conservative. My post-op paperwork says 5 lbs the first week and increase at 5 pound increments each week. My problem is.... I'm traveling to Mexico, and I have to pack. I'm going alone, so I'll have to manage my own luggage. My plan is to take a light weight tote, and only bring the bare necessities. Normally, if I was going away for 5 days, I'd have 10 changes of clothes, at least 5 pairs of shoes and purses to match, LOL. My plan is a loose long dress to fly home in, a small pillow and airline blanket in case I get cold on the plane (the Airlines no longer provide those), enough changes of panties, a nightgown, the bare minimum of toiletries (I won't be wearing make up), some broth packets and Mio drops for the last night, a book to read, and a journal. Of course, my I-phone and charger. I'm not bringing my lap top with me since that alone weighs at least 5 lbs. I've already spoken to my "sleeve Sister" and I'm sure we'll have enough to talk about to keep ourselves entertained. Am I missing anything??? -
I have to say i was banded on 2/17/10 I've been sticking to my diet. I'm down 36 lbs and feel great I'm working on my man cave. I live on the great south bay on long island NY. I make my own fishing lures and play guitar on top of my garage. It was flooding out so I raised it 3 ft and can't wait to finish it I will post picks after it's done. I see there's guy's from all over the world lets see some of your man caves. I also was to fat to fish but thats changed now. I'm gonna walk the beach for hours in search of fish. Talk later Jimmy:thumbup:

10 Days Out - Weight Down And Up?
cathibass13 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
New to the board, but I'm looking for some experienced folks who can help me out. My surgery date was 11/20, and things have actually been going pretty well until now. Then yesterday, when I stepped on the scale, I'm actually UP almost 2.5 lbs!! How does that happen? After a day of monitoring my intake fastidiously, I'm back down .5 pounds. This is the kind of progress I would expect from a regular "diet", and not after major surgery to enable weight LOSS!! Obviously, I'm a little frustrated and more than a little confused. I realize I probably shouldn't be weighing myself daily, but I'm glad I did so I could see this. Today I am following the menu/schedule to the letter, and I sure hope something happens to the scale tomorrow, or I might cry. Yes, I'm over-dramatizing (but not by much). Thanks for any input, CB -
Hi all! I just went for my 10 week appt. I am down 52 pounds! I have had no complications, and I am feeling great. Hope everyone is feeling great and ready to take off some pounds this July!

I'm 10 weeks out and am finding myself able to eat less and less. Still struggling with nausea too. Feeling down.
