11 days with my band. I have not yet started eating foods yet. I can start on Friday. I spend so much time on the forum trying to find people who have had a successful weight loss journey with the band. Its so hard to get myself motivated when there are people who try so hard to only loose 30lbs in a year. I know that losing 30lbs is fantastic, but i want to loose 100lbs in a years time. I am young, 27. My father set up this surgery for me and paid for it 100% :Banane37:, no insurance, and the last thing I want to do is disappoint him. I am so worried that i will mess this up. I have like ZERO willpower. :cheatfree: I live with my boyfriend who is a complete saint. he is trying to help me come up with meal plans and he walks with me everyday. Its like I just cannot picture myself ever losing this fat. I have been fat me entire life, exceot for a year when I was 14. Ever since then I have fat. When I started this I weighed in at 262. As of today i weigh 252. I have been on the liquid diet for a little over two weeks. So I know the weight I have lost is because i am not eating. What happens when i start eating again? I will gain all of that weight back? I am not afraid of exercise. I am not lazy. There is a nice gym here at my complex and I dont mind going on the treadmill for an hour. Another thing i am worried about is the period of time in between my first fill. My fill is scheduled for Feb 27th. Thats a month away. It is exactly 6 weeks from my surgery date. Most people say that they are able to eat whatever they want and they go back to eating how they were before the band. That is smoething I am afraid of. before the band I was constantly eating. ALL THE TIME. One of the hardest things I am going to have to learn is 3 meals a day, NO SNACKING. But when I am hungry, I am physically in pain. So I eat. I know I can do this, I just wish I could get rid of all my fears and worries. :cheatfree:

Post op 6 days
lisalaufenberg replied to lisalaufenberg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I came home with zofran and phenergan. I have been taking them both quite often. I'm a nurse so I have been checking my skin turgor and other signs of dehydration daily. So far I think I'm ok. Just very tired. Today seems to be a lot better. -
Hi Missvee, I'm on a similar journey. Stay focused and do the best you can and be kind to yourself. I'm waiting for approval after being denied. I just can't let these insurance companies get under my skin but it is hard I admit. Stay connected to positive people. Regards Ron

Hey my friends, I have been doing some thinking as of late about getting to goal weight. I am 22 pounds from a goal of 170. I changed it from 180 once I got to the lower 200's. I am just wondering if it is realistic to set my sights at a lower goal weight. I have been losing a pound a week since about April. It is really going a lot slower now and I am becoming a little complacent. I hoped I wouldnt, but I am not trying as hard as before. But also I notice that any little discretion sets me back 3 or 4 days, so I am still pretty diligent about keeping the calories to a 1200 maximum per day except when I go to Vegas and have margarita parties!! LOL I dont know whether I should care if I ever see a weight of 160 or less. I am in a 12-14 top and a 16 bottom (loose) which isnt all that terrible, but its still fat in my book. Should I care more and try to be more dilgent or be happy with the pound a week that I am losing? I also feel like I need more fill. I eat quite a bit compared to what is considered to be a normal bandster serving and occasionally feel guilty about this. Or should I get a really tight fill and try to get the 20 lbs off as fast as possible? I am confused....... Babs in TX 334/192/170 -142

Looking for a buddy in the Buffalo NY area
lindatatu replied to beautifulispink's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Nicole, I am usually on another thread but I like to search around once in awhile and I found your post. I too live in Buffalo, South Buffalo to be exact. My surgery is October 13th. It could have been September 22nd but I was busy. It has been a long process but I think I am ready. Actually I would have said I am ready but I was at the beach last week, eating more than usual and am having trouble getting back on track. I am a "light weight" and don't have a whole lot to loose - perhaps 60 total pounds would make me happy. I go to Buffalo General and will have Dr. Hoffman as my surgeon. It will be interesting to hear the perspective of a patient of another surgeon. Let me know if you want to chat. Linda -
Post Surgery Workouts?
band2sleeveinNoVA replied to band2sleeveinNoVA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was working out 6 days a week but I also was 2+ yr out of Lapband surgery and have lost 100 lbs. I had my revision to the sleeve on 5/23 after my band slipped. I know that's why I am so eager to get back to my routine because I feel better when I'm working out and sweating, also I have a feeling my pain levels were next to nothing because I'm numb from my belly button to my very upper thighs from my skin removal/abdominoplasty. You'll feel like working out when your body is ready - it helped me a ton with the loose skin! -
6 month appointment
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BMI doesn't take into account your larger bone structure from carrying around all the extra weight for so long, nor does it take into account any excessive muscle mass you may have, so don't worry about BMI. Your body fat percentage is getting very good, and that's much more indicative of your overall health. Let it and your weight get to whatever point your comfortable with, don't worry about any one else's opinions. You are the one who has to live in your skin. When you get to that point, if you're still losing, I'm sure your doc or NUT can give you some strategies for maintaining your weight. -
I'm also pre-fill and go back and forth with thinking the band is tight to thinking it's too loose. I'm getting a fill on 3/21 and my doctor said things will get better. He said I wasn't chewing well enough if stuff was getting stuck at this point. I hate to admit but he's most likely right. I think I'm chewing well but put too big of a bite in, then swallow part and chew chew chew the rest. Well that first swallow is the big chunk that's getting stuck. I'm trying to learn but it's a hard habit.

Just a note of encouragement to all of you out there that might be struggling with stalls. I highly recommend the 5 day sleeve test. It really helped me get back on track with my eating. I have cut out all starchy carbs, bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc and am sticking to protein and veggies. I feel awesome. Not only did I loose the extra 5 lbs I had gained since right before Thanksgiving but I have now broke the 150 lb barrier and came in this morning at 147! I feel awesome. I am going out today to try on size 8 jeans! I started at 193 lbs and busting out of 16's. This is so exciting! My goal is 145 lbs but now I can see that being reduced to even 140!! I have lost 46 pounds since getting sleeved by Dr. Nick (he's awesome) April 27, 2010. I am considering a tummy tuck in July and getting my arms done (I have always had wings, even as a teen) as well as some lippo from my upper back. This is so amazing and I feel so awesome. Will be turning 48 this year and am in the best shape of my life. My hubby loves my new bod and can't get enough. It has put the spark back into our 24 year marriage! I want to go to Hawaii for our 25th wedding anniversary and wear sleeveless tops and dresses. I have never had the confidence to do that before and with the weight loss and the plastic surgery to help fix these irritating issues, I am going to rock!! Lots of love to everyone out there and thank you for all of the encouragement along the way. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Stick to your program and excercise. The results will astound you!

Advice needed after a complete unfilled due to a slip.
Karad posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
emergency unfill as band had slipped after violet vomiting due to the flu.this was the day before thanksgiving Nov. 26th..weight was 142 today's weight 165.... was told that after you have a complete unfill it will never be the same..kinda like when you brake a seal you can never get it back what it was when first placed. . I had to wait for 6 weeks before I could go back into see how everything was looking... well everything looked great so they added .5 cc into my 10 cc band On January 7th..felt nothing... 3 weeks later January 29th had another fill of 1.5 cc and nothing again.. next time Feb.12th they added 1cc..I can eat a Cow and nothing at all... when I had to have all the Fluid removed I only had 3 cc's....In 5 days it will be 1 year sense I had my lap band placed and loved my new life ,I had lost 65 pounds in total.. I have another fill on March 17th. So here I am almost 1 year to the day and I feel like I am fighting a loosing battle as I still have No Restriction.I am up 23 pounds and climbing no matter what I do the weight just keeps packing on. -
Just to update what's been happening: I found a well-reviewed body fat scale (the electrical magic kind). Followed the directions and got my readout. 23% body fat on that one. Boom! Clearly this one is right ???? It put the whole extra skin issue into perspective for me.

I was way less afraid of those things, which, afterall are easily rectified by removing the band, than I was of major major surgery and having my insides re-routed. Being a relatively modest BMI of 35 meant that that option would probably not be available to me anyway, if they did gastric bypass in Australia anymore. I also dont care to lose a ton of weight in a very short amount of time, look like a corpse and have a problem with loose skin. I love love love my band. I am living a completely normal life, just one in which I eat a bit less. I eat way less junk, but I eat out, I eat with family, I sometimes eat yummy things for a treat, I can exercise (I've started running again, a MAJOR NSV for me), its simply the best thing I ever did. If I should lose it one day due to a complication, well I guess I'll face that when I come to it. I think I would see how I went without it for a while - I only have 1.3 ml in my band and no real restriction, much of what I've achieved has come from conscious behaviour modifcation. I'd have to say the band's major influence on my has been psychological - I dont expect to fail, therefore I dont.

I am a big fan of dr. Drew Pinsky. I grew up listening to loveline on the radio and now I watch all of his rehab shows. Anyhow, he had a guest named Dr. Andrew Goldstein who is some sort of vaginal/hormonal specialist. Recently they were talking on dr. Drew's podcast about the side effects of birth control pills. Dr. Goldstein said most of the newer pills from the last 15-20 years are horrible for women. The gist was that women need testosterone for their sex drive and comfort and basically the bc pills suppress women's testosterone receptors in and around the vagina. This leads to low sex drive, vulva pain, cervical pain, abdominal pain, thin skin down below... Basically misery that many man of us experience. Oh and the bad bc pill's effects can last for years after you discontinue them. The solution was to quit taking bc pills if possible and also use an estrogen AND testosterone cream. If you must take bc then take one from about 25-30 years ago. Avoid new bcs like yazmin. There is apparently an international society for sexual health of women that has affiliated gynos who know more about these issues than your typical ob-gyn. I will get the name of some of the bcs that do not have these bad effects. Hope this made some sense. If you want to hear what dr. Goldstein says download the Adam carolla app for your phone and click the dr. Drew show. There you can find the podcasts featuring dr. Goldstein. Very, very interesting stuff. Sorry this is so badly written. Laying in my sick 4 year old's bed until she conks out

Exercises for drooping skin
skinny_minnie_wannabe replied to azsabino's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that the likelihood of skin "bouncing back" is determined by genetics. Most of the time drooping is going to happen because of the rapid weight loss. When you lose weight quickly, it is difficult for the body to compensate with skin tightening. An individual's age is also a factor and the amount of weight that you lose. (I'm fearful of this myself but I won't let it stop me, that's for sure lol) I'm sure that you can do some toning exercises that will help such as lifting light weights. I try to incorporate light weights into my cardio. I use 2-5 lb weights on the treadmill. You don't have to do cardio with them though. You can simply lift. Do you have pinterest? If so there are a ton of exercises for wls patients. If you don't have it, I recommend that you sign up. I have found so much information that it is unbelievable. Take Care! -
As a guy i really dont care to much about the skin - However i have been using a cardio workout and light weight work out to tighten up - So far working for me but only down around 100 pounds and I carried it well - I was told by a trainer to do a light weight daily workout to keep tight. But I have lost a ton of inches and to me a ton of muscle, They say it was fat but i liked my beefy arms and legs better before

So I recently started tanning at a tanning salon ( I know it's really bad for my skin, but in an effort to restore some self esteem I figured being tanner might help) Anyways while I was tanning tonight I randomly wondered if there is any way it could effect my band!? Probably a silly question but I have never seen it discussed on here....Anyone have any idea??? thanks

Hi Everyone! I am excited to find this site. I was banded March 31, 2006 in Hurst with Dr. Robert Snow. I started at 246 and am down to 212. My goal weight is 140. I am excited about finally having the chance to get healthy. I have read many of the posts in the different areas. I am having a little problem with mucous but not too bad. I have found there are certain foods I cannot tolerate and I have thrown a few things up but no nausea. I had my first fill on 5/11/06 with 1 cc. I have a medium band and was told it holds 5-6 cc. So far so good but I do notice that I felt restricted for the first few days after my fill and since then I have been hungrier sooner. I have lost 4# since the fill so I guess things are going well. I am working hard to maintaiin low carb high protein intake & if I want something sweet I eat it but the nice thing is now I have 1 cookie instead of the whole package because physically the band will not let me handle more. Cut to the reason why I had the band! I do treat myself occasionally to a Jamba Juice Mango-A-GoGo fruit smoothie but it has a lot of carbs so I only do a small one and only very occasionally. I do feel better since the weight loss and I find that I have a bit more energy. My cloths are starting to get very loose! I love that! Well, enough rambling. I am just taking things one day at a time and with the love and grace from our Lord, I will be successful. By the way, how do you get one of those graphs to post (the one that shows your weight loss and goal etc...)?

I can't eat anything with skin! If you peel them, hey might be better for you. I just avoid them, blue berries, and oranges (unless cut up). So, that is the only advice I have for you! Good luck! Karen

You might want to cover up your surgical scars.....they might be impacted by the process. As far as any other impact upon the band, there really should be no problem. Now, with regard to tanning helping out your self esteem, I think a really good dose of Skin Cancer will work miracles in making you feel more like a complete person. Yep, I sure do. Isn't it wonderful how we are able to make really great decisions for ourselves (losing weight) and then be able to turn and around and make really stupid ones? (subjecting ouselves to rays that are PROVEN to cause skin cancer) all for the sake of having someone else see us and think we are "better" because we have a burned organ hanging from our bones? Also, there is the added benefit of having, later in life, drier and prematurely wrinkled skin because of the tanning. That should be even BETTER for your self esteem. Jeez. S. (ps:....you're smarter than that...stay away from those tanning booths.)

My Dr. Scott Steinbreg is the best, what was funny to me ,was when I went back after my surgery. Dr. Steinberg forgot how I looked before the surgery and it was so funny to me, so I showed him a picture of me before , lol, that mean surgery worked wonderfully, lol😎😎😎😎😎. I haven't been sick, now at the beginning it's up to you, stay strong . Go to your follow up appt. and you will be all right. I always lotion my body and It's amazing that I don't have any hanging skin. My primary Dr. was amaze because I didn't have any, she had me to take all of my clothes off and turn around, now that was funny to me too. Because I look totally different to her too. I'm happy and I thank Dr. Steinberg and his Staff , I love all of guys with Love 🤗🤩

This sounds terrible to me! They may have "poked the band???" That is scary. The port is usually located beneath the skin, attached to the abdominal muscles. I can't imagine being jabbed that deep with a needle. They owe you some answers, in my opinion.

4 Weeks post-op from FTT and lipo in Mexico
alice posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I went back down to Mexico last weekend because I thought I had some Water in my belly, it did go down like Dr. C said it would. He removed my stitches and told me that I was healing nicely and he was pleased with my results. He told me that I wold not see the full benefit for 3-4 months and that I would go down a size or two. We will see. My pre-op clothing is loose on me and I am still in my garment although today I wore a pair of fleexies out instead. Dr. C said I could get out of the garment in the day at 4 weeks and to wear it at night for three months. I am feeling pretty good. I drive, go shopping, work and went back to the gym today. I am starting out very slow, like I am a beginner. I can't begin to tell you how glad I am at having this proceedure done. This is by far the best gift that I could have given myself. I stopped off at Nordstoms and bought some little tiny lacy panties that go up your butt in the back. I could NOT believe how good they looked on me. I just stand in front of the mirror and say, "Damn girl, you look sooooo good"! He he he he My husband can't keep his hands off me and I am loving it. I feel so sexy for the first time in years. My belly looks like I am 18yo again. I will try and get some photos up soon. The pain was worse than I expected, but it passed and that is what drugs are for...right? I am planning on going back down for a BL in September. I am a nice 36DD but after breast-feeding six, yes six kids, well, they are going south shall I say? I am in a loose size 12. I am 5'7 1/2 40-31-41 not too shabby for 49yo -
Would love to hear from more folks...I was recently sleeved on 09/11, and was wondering what I had to look forward to as far as excess skin. I have already lost 50 lbs. (30 pre-op, and 20+post), so I know the weight is coming off fast.

Hi All, I had 3.5cc in my 10 cc band and I was miserable - either hungry or stuck amost all of the time and not loosing weight. For example: 3 bites of food, chewed to a pulp, and I was stuck - could only eat sliders (which tend to be high in calorie and don't keep you full). Doc removed .2 ccs and now I can eat pretty much whatever I want (for example ate 2 grilled fish tacos, no problem). Though I'm exercising restraint, I'm eating too many calories (1300-1500 daily). I don't feeli like the band is doing much for me in terms of feeling full or satisfied. I'm hungry a lot. I don't get stuck anymore, so that's good, but I have lost just 1 pound since he removed the .2ccs (a month ago). Logic tells me that I should have .1cc put back in, but good grief!!!! That's tiny! I can't imagine that will make much of a difference. Of course, the .2ccs made a difference, but still seems odd to me. Anywho...bottom line....has anyone had just 1cc added or removed and found it made a noticable difference?? Please share your experience. Thanks!
