Sleeve Revision to SADI or DS
ShoppGirl posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am scheduled for sleeve to SADI revision in 12 days and as I go over the book with the stages returned to eating I got a little concerned that it is gonna be extra hard for me since they are only operating on the bowel and not the stomach. Since I already had the sleeve part and my stomach is healed and hunger has returned, I will be expected to live on 2-4 tbsp meals while never feeling full and maintaining full hunger. This is going to be very hard. Anyways, researching this I finally came across some people that had this revision and they seemed to be struggling in the beginning but I don’t see any follow-up posts. Please let me know how this period went as well as how you are doing now if you had sleeve revision to SADI or DS. I still have option to switch to bypass but not for long. -
I never had any on surgeons orders. I drank full skim milk and if I wanted a flavour added PB2 powder, banana, berries or a few spoons of protein yogurt. Super easy on the pocket too.

Family wedding two months after surgery
Pines posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A couple of questions about recovery before a family wedding. I am scheduled for VSG on March 6. Yes, far out due to work commitments. I have a big family wedding two months later and am wondering (overthinking) how this will all work? 1) I am not in the wedding party but do have a role and need to get a new dress. At this point, I am planning to get a dress that fits me now and assume it may be a bit roomy two months following my surgery, but will still work. Does that seem reasonable, in others experience? 2) Is it likely I’ll be able to eat any of the wedding food two months out? I absolutely realize my experience may be different from others, just wondering what events have been like at two months for others going through the surgery. I also understand my options will be limited (plain protein?) but wondering if I’ll have to pack food/snacks. I’ve read all kinds recovery eating schedules but don’t have the proscribed one for my program yet. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and advice! -

Some people can just have a taste but I learned after my sleeve that I am not one of them. I can’t have one slice of pizza or one brownie. Even if I manage to have just one that day I will crave more unhealthy stuff the following days. At bedtime I have been doing the sugar free popsicles. That seems to be working. If you have actual hunger then something with protein would be a better option. Like a Greek yogurt maybe. Can you budget the calories so you can do that. I think the triple zero is only like 80 calories. That should keep you full through the night though. -
I have pain if I eat too much, or don't chew enough times before swallowing in the upper area of my abdomen, as if the pouch is not allowing any more food in it and pushing up on the diaphragm. I guess it is in the esophagus, but I learned my less the first time it happened and now the only time it happens when I eat too much shrimp. I keep it to 2 oz. Fluid is the most important thing. I would avoid carbonated beverages, and alcohol, you need to let your body heal from surgery before going off plan. Stick to the plan your team has given you. The most problems that end up in the ER are for dehydration. I drink Crystal Light with Isopure Clear Protein in my drinks to get the protein goals I have. Good luck!

Food Before and After Photos

Ground turkey, cottage cheese, avocado and coleslaw. My kid is starting to cook more often (thanks to ticktoc?) and this is a protein bowl she put together and persuaded me to try. I am glad she’s trying new things (like cottage cheese which I refused to eat until 7 yrs ago😝) and coleslaw was my addition. -
I have a tentative surgery date of June 17th so I'll be starting my 2 week liver shrink / pre-op diet the first week of June. My nutritionist said I will have to drink meal replacement shakes for breakfast, lunch, & supper. I have Premier Protein powder at home, but he said that is not a meal REPLACEMENT, it's just a high protein shake. What meal replacement shakes do you recommend? Which ones tastes the best? I don't think I can drink the ones that have a heavy vitamin taste.

Again, If what you're doing is working, then I don't see anything that needs changing. If you're in the range of 100-115 grams per day, then you're already eating what I'd call protein forward diet and about where I'd typically recommend for most people. Keep in mind what I mentioned, calories are king. You only lose weight when you eat fewer calories than you burn. Thus if you did want to add more protein, you'd have to do so at the expense of other nutrients. When eating as few calories as you are right now, dropping any more on carbs & fat could have negative effects on health. It's important to get sufficient essential fatty acids since your body can't make these (that's why there called "essential". Technically you can live without carbs since your body can manufacture glycogen from fats and protein, but the problem is that if you reduce these even further, you're going to also have to reduce your intake of fruits and veggies and these convey a lot of other benefits to you nutritionally. Here's what I'd ask your nutritionist about. The most up to date clinical practice guidelines from AACE/TOS/ASMBS/OMA/ASA say to focus on protein intake of 1.2g/kg of bodyweight. https://www.soard.org/article/S1550-7289(08)00163-9/fulltext I recognize that you are not from the USA, but I dare say these organizations have a significant level of money and experience going into these recommendations since obesity is rampant in the USA. For what it's worth, some recent data I saw showed that the USA does far more bariatric surgeries than any other country. In fact, it was roughly the same number of bariatric surgeries as the next 10 countries combined. An impressive but sad statistic. Protein is highly satiating compared to carbs & fats, plus protein takes longer to digest, meaning you'll be full longer. Being full longer equals less cravings and better dietary compliance. Protein has a small but meaningful effect on overall energy balance because on average, for every 100 calories of protein you eat, you burn about 20 calories just to digest it. This is way more than carbs or fats which range from 0 to 3 for fats and 5 or 10 for carbs depending of fiber content. This means the more protein you eat, the better your overall energy balance compared to eating the exact same calorie amount of other foods. Granted, this isn't a lot, but it all adds up. Higher levels of dietary protein help you preserve more muscle mass as you lose weight. (It helps prevent muscle catabolism which is a real risk when eating a very low calorie diet.) Because muscle is more metabolically active than fat, the more muscle mass you preserve as you lose weight, the more calories you'll burn, even at rest. Studies suggest anything above about 1.2g/kg (95% CI), is sufficient for most people to stave off catabolism, which is probably where the dietary guidelines linked above came from. You mentioned something about body recomposition, so I want to touch on that briefly. I LOVE the idea, but you need to understand it's extremely hard (bordering on impossible), to add muscle mass while on a very low calorie diet like you're eating right now. For most people, you actually need to be eating a significant surplus to add muscle mass, so I honestly wouldn't even try until you get closer to your goal weight. If you do decide to add mass, then yes, higher protein amounts than what you're eating now would be recommended (Roughly 2g - 2.5g per kg of bodyweight). This also would require a dedicated hypertrophy training plan though, and that's a bit out of scope for our discussion here. Best of luck.

Hair loss at 4 months post-op! Ordered collagen pills. Anyone ever take those?
Dub replied to Selina333's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tried to reply earlier…using my laptop. It is acting up…time for a replacement, I suppose. I have an upcoming appointment with my primary doctor for annual physical. While I am in there I will ask him about this hair wizardry gel you mentioned. Thank you. Many thanks. On one hand, what am I concerned about…I am a dude. We lose hair at some point…most of us, at least. It is no biggie. On the other hand I am gonna hold up before grabbing the razor and going scorched earth, lol. Explore the options and whatnot. Slowing my roll and investigate the possibilities. Good news is that I am now 1/4 way through my 30 day supply of these bovine collagen tablets…on day 2. This afternoon I snorted at the neighbors dog and stamped my hoof….didn’t charge, though. Prolly will after a few more days at this intake. -
It's been a while since I've been active on here, but I'm really struggling. Any advice or encouragement would be a huge help. 😥 Almost right at my year mark post-op, I stopped losing weight. My doctor said that I should still be losing 1-2 pounds a week. Around this time I was eating 1400-1500 calories, so they recommended I scale back to 1200. I try to eat whole, unprocessed foods about 80% of the time, I still track what I eat, count my calories, prioritize protein, and exercise 4-5 times a week for 30 minutes (usually cardio, but I do resistance train, just not faithfully). I am eating 1200-1400 calories a day, and I'm struggling so bad. My weight sits somewhere between 211 - 219, depending on water retention, my cycle, travel, stress, etc, and it really hasn't changed since I saw my doctor last. I would love to try the GLP-1 class drugs to see if that could help, but my insurance doesn't cover it, so that's not an option. I'm really depressed over this, which I know doesn't help things. I feel like I've worked so hard, and I've just barely gotten halfway there. Now I'm terrified I'll start gaining weight again, and I've caught myself obsessing over my eating to the point it's feeling disordered and mentally unhealthy. Has anyone else had this struggle? If so, what helped you - either with losing more weight, or just coping with being at a plateau? 😭

New here. Looking to start a new journey.
SammyGold posted a topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
What's up, folks. I'm a 40-year-old guy who's finally admitting my diet has been complete trash for way too long. We're talking years of wings, pizza, and basically everything that tastes amazing but makes me feel terrible afterwards. I've been researching GLP-1 medications and I'm both curious and overwhelmed by all the options. My eating habits are pretty much what you'd expect from someone who thought fast food was a food group, but I'm hitting that age where I can't pretend my metabolism is still 25, and I'm sick of feeling like garbage all the time. I'm looking to connect with people who've been through this. Whether you're researching like me, currently on GLP-1s, or have experience to share. I'd love to hear about your journeys, what worked, what didn't, and get some realistic expectations. Also interested in how people changed their eating habits alongside these meds, because I know I can't keep living off junk food forever. Thanks for having me, and looking forward to learning from everyone! -
High in protein Pureed food Ideas…
Mama_Bee replied to Mama_Bee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The milk trick sounds great, and that made me feel so much better about not having to move on to the next stage if not ready. Also not to worry about not meeting my protein intake too much. Thank you for taking the time to reply! I really appreciate each and every one of you who cared to help me out! -
Need help; 2 years post surgery
Dub replied to AbsoluteScenes134's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Sucks that nobody replied thus far. Perhaps drinking a protein shake first thing each day will help kick start your system. Hopefully the intake will help get your system functioning -
I'm still evaluating my options (Keep dieting with my RD exericing with my trainer and Zepboundng, Endoscopic Gastroplasty, SG, RNY). I've met with two different medical teams, and my RD. I'm in one surgical in take program. Nevertheless, while I continue to research procedures, I wanted to ask about something that I won't be in any study. Is going through a bariatric procedure something people can do w/o support or consistent support. I have to plan to be on my own. How fragile are people after these procedures? How much help do people typically need? Can these procedures be done completely alone aftercare? Alone as in no one is available to help. Is it safe to be alone days weeks after the procedures?

weight regain after sleeve
JamalR93 replied to VGRaluca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Regain happens, and you’re clearly putting in the effort, which matters. I’m still pre-op, but from what I’ve seen here, going back to basics like focusing on protein, cutting out snacking, and watching liquid calories has helped others get back on track. Tracking everything, even the small stuff, might help you spot what’s getting in the way. You’re not alone in this. -
Thank you for point this out to me. I will do some research on other protein powders. I was just looking for a quick fix for the boredom.

2 Years Post-Op: Can't Lose More Weight
ynotiniowa replied to BrandiBird's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good morning. I'm not discounting anything SpartanMaker posted above. However, I was in the exact same boat as you. I was eating 1200-1400 calories, religiously measured/counted everything, plenty of water, I played with my macros till I was blue in the face and for 10 months I did not lose and I did not gain. I'm a nurse so I probably have more background in nutrition than most, so I'm confident in how I was eating was appropriate and what most providers would "recommend". In February I went to my two year follow up. My labs were perfect, my vitals on point and I had not lost one ounce since the last visit nearly a year prior. After having a long conversation with my bariatric provider, the only change since the losing stopped was I was pretty much into full menopause. We discussed options and ideas on how to "overcome" the hormone influencing my insulin processes that was affecting my metabalism hurdle I may possibly be facing. She said based on her research zepbound might be a great option as it also can help in reducing "hot flashes" which I was having twice a day, everyday. Long story short, even with my insurance, zepbound would have been around $700 a month, so I choose to do the my budget friendly compound tirzepatide route (the compound equivalent to zepbound) with my provider's blessing. I have been on the weekly injections for 6 weeks and have already been able to shed 19#. I have not ate any differently, no change in my physical activity AND the hot flashes are gone. I'm not suggesting this would be the answer you need, but it's been a game changer for my journey. Good luck ❤️ -
Sticking to post-op plan working 80 hour weeks?
AmberFL replied to Chrys Kiy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It sounds like your going to be very busy so maybe you wont be so focused on food. A part of my success is attributed to meal prepping- I meal prep every single week. Sometimes I meal prep meals for grab or go or I will meal prep items for those tempting nights at home where I want to eat cereal or something that is not so great instead of cooking. you will get quicker at meal prep too, I used to take 2+ hours now I can whip up my meal prep in 1hour. I also learned to not complicate it. Easy meals can be just as delicious! I bulk prep chicken breast, and ground beef, hard boiled eggs, wash and cut up veggies/fruits, make sure to have Greek yogurt and cottage cheese on hand, It does make life easier when your prepared! Also having better choice snacks stocked up in the fridge/pantry helps too! Cheese sticks, jerky, flavor packets for water (if you like that) protein shakes, protein powder, protein bars (recommend Built bar or fulfil bar), unsweetened almond milk. skinny syrups for coffee...theres more its just off the top of my head these things lol -
Struggling with Food Tracking and ADHD
ShoppGirl replied to omgsharon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great ideas above but if that doesn’t work for you or for others reading this later, What if you were to just divide your alloyed macros or calories into meals/snacks. Like if you were allowed 1200 a day you do meals around 300 calories and 3 100 calorie snacks. For macros just don’t routinely eat any food over X grams of fat or added sugar. You can break it up differently. I did a protein shake for breakfast so I could have what felt like a little more substantial lunch and dinner. It should’ve be as hard forever. Once you figure out a handful meals that are within this plan you most likely will just sorta remember what meals work. I know I did and I live my life by alarms and reminders. Sometimes I joke that if my alarm didn’t tell me to wake up one day I just may not…ever. That’s how reliant I am on them. Anyways, I have a handful of my common meals that I know will work if I don’t have time to think about things. And if I’m having a less ideal lunch then I already know it’s chicken breast of fish for dinner with a veggie. Every meal for me has protein unless it’s a real odd day out and then I do my best to make up for it with a Greek yogurt or shake for snack. Another option would be to do the guess work the night before and pre plan what you eat the next day. You can play around with options and log it all into Baritastic or another calorie tracker app and know if it fits you plan and then just eat what’s on your list the next day. That may actually take a little stress out of it as well just having the decisions already made the day before. The meal prep mentioned before seems like a great way to achieve this as well. I know that I have single serve meals like that in the freezer. My regular and chicken chili are really great because they can even be defrosted in the microwave so they are good for days with zero planning or time. -

Stressing about eating too much
bahuber5477 replied to starryskies's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am not to goal yet but I can tell you that as long as I keep my protein high i seem to lose weight independent of actual calorie goal. I am 6 months out and am shooting for 130 grams of protein and somewhere around 1500 calories. Continuing to lose a couple lbs a week even though it’s not terribly linear lol. -
My snack go to is cottage cheese. But for snacks I tend to go with cheese, Greek yogurt and nuts to try to get my protein in.

Have you tried the unflavored powder you mix into things. I will have my surgery in a week and have allergies already the powder is easer for me to mix into things even the water if I can not stomach the flavored shakes. I like the Isopure Zero Carb 100% Pure Whey Isolate Protein Powder, Lactose Free, Gluten Free, With Vitamins, Unflavored.

What do you put in your coffee?
TiredAngel replied to kla7403's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I drink my coffee hot, I drop a cinnamon stick in (which I chew on sometimes) and top it with keto sugar free whipped cream. A sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice on top or cocoa powder does a lot with the sent joy I get while drinking. That is my 2 sec go to. Sometimes a drop some sugar free syrup in my iced coffee (I like torani the best) and go with that and ice. Sometimes a protein shake as a mix in. Sometimes I foam up some heavy whipping cream with or without my protein powder or a dash of sugar free jello, matcha powder or even cocoa powder. Heck, I’ve even made sugar free boba using unflavored gelatin and avocado oil to drop in my cold brew. I always drop in the milk foam/cream/protein shake base then drip the hot coffee over it so it doesn’t get bitter. Coffee is my jam. Decaf or not :) I’ve never been a fan of the coconut oil coffee fat bombs. -

Will seriously need to try the sweet recipes. i swear I can smell it cooking with a sugary, buttery, cinnamon mix on it. I have never heard of / eaten squashes this way. Its always savory here. Always in soups or roasted.
