    Fills forever and ever?

Some people are filled beyond capacity, but I believe most find that they don't need to be. The band by itself, without fill, will give you some restriction. Some people make it to goal without any fills. The Fluid added from there just increases that. Ideally by the time you reach goal you'll have been able to change your behaviors enough that fills aren't required for a lifetime. However, if you aren't able to do that, or have situations come up that make it near impossible (e.g. pregnancy), then your band is there and you can seek out a fill. I can't remember where from, but I've heard the statistic that after the first 2 years, fills are really only done if weightloss warrants (reduced organ size requires tighter band for continued restriction), post-pregnany (returning restriction to where it was), etc. I believe there are doctors who are starting to empty the fill after the first 2 - 3 years, too -- again supporting the idea that the behavior change should have occured by then.

  6. Hey, I am a teacher in Tennessee. I am having my surgery Dec. 14th and then taking the next week off before our break begins. My daughter, who is also a teacher, is having her surgery on Dec. 21st. We are both very excited!!!
  7. I'm 7 weeks out today, and started getting a stomach ache yesterday morning. I thought maybe it was something I ate, so I didn't eat anything for a while and tried again. Today I went back to all liquids, and I still have a stomach ache and it's worse when I drink anything - hot or cold. It's not a right side pain - like what I assume gallbladder would be, and it's fairly constant. Ideas? I'm going to try calling my doctor's office after their lunch break.
  8. I was never put under either and here i am 32 pounds ligther. I ws sleeved on 11/05/12 and I got to the hospital, filled out paperwork, went to the back to get changes and to get my vitals done. met with doctors to confirm what we were doing that day they went over every little detail and answered all my questions. the I was hooked up to the IV and was taken to the OR. they told me to lay on the table the nurse grabed my hand and assured me she will be there taking care of me through out the whole thing and after that I was out. I woke up in the recovery room in a bit of pain and I was hooked up to the morphine after that I was heaven becuase I didn't feel pain I spend 2 days in the hospital alto of Iv's fluids, antiacids and pain killer as needed I walked I sipped (after the leak test of course) and of with me to my house all was well had no issues my expirience was great. I felt sore in the first 2 weeks but I've been feeling better every day after that.

    PreOp Diet

My surgery is 3/18 also. I don't have a real pre-op diet, just 24 hrs before. What I wanted to say is regarding the protein shakes. try mixing different flavors in with your vanilla protein powder, orange crystal light powder to vanilla protein powder makes a pretty good orange Julius flavor. and pumpkin makes a good shake also. try different amounts of different flavoring. my sister had her sleeve surgery 5 weeks ago, and says she really has to remember to eat. I guess you get a hollow feeling when your hungry which isn't often. She has also started buying vitamin waters at Wal-Mart ($1) she adds crystal light, clear protein powder and miralax to the bottle. gets her protein, liquids, some vitamins and her stool softener all in one. Just play around with what you can have. create your own recipes. for clear liquids, go get you some chicken taco soup, strain it, or wonton soup, strain it. add a little clear protein powder to everything you can. Unjury has a really good clear protein powder, hope this helps. now I just have to take my own advice!!! good luck and stay in touch, maybe we can help walk each other thru this!!
  10. Hi all. This may be kind of long, so please bear with me. 13 years ago, due to a nasty divorce, I went on a diet of coffee and Water, and lost somewhere around 100 lbs in a little over 3 months. At that time, I started having major chest pain every time I had my period-to the point where I needed to be hospitalized every month for 4 days. I was throwing up bile and in so much pain every month-it was what I imagine a heart attack would feel like. They did extensive testing on me, and figured out that it was some kind of combination of endometriosis coupled with a strange form of pancreatitis. They decided there was some kind of pancreatitis involved, because during 2 different hospital stays, my amylase levels were way way up, and any surgeries that were consequently done triggered off attacks as bad as the ones I got with my period. They went in looking for the endometriosis, but never found it-although they told me that although they couldnt find it that didnt mean it wasnt there. I should also mention that until then, and after that I was never able to get pregnant, and we did end up adopting 2 beautiful children. I begged my dr to do a full hysterectomy, but he refused because they werent exactly sure what was causing the problem, so therefore they couldnt be sure that would stop it. I should mention that during this time, since they were testing for all kinds of things, they found I had a huge amount of gallstones, and they did a laparoscopy to remove my gall bladder. The surgery went well, however I did have an attack that lasted 4 days after, and the only thing that helped with the pain at that point was shots of dilaudid-(a form of heroin usually only given to cancer patients in their last days.... The doctor finally did put me on Lupron shots to stop my period, and I took them every month for over 5 years. The attacks all stopped, and I havent had a problem since. He did stop the shots 6 months ago, and although I have my period again-very irregularly, very heavy-I havent had an attack-thank goodness. Now, with all the reading I have been doing, I see that one side affect that is listed in the side affects that happen in less then 1% is pancreatitis. I also see that they wont put the lap band in someone who has chronic pancreatitis. Now I should mention that many pancreas problems are due to drinking excessive amounts of alcohol-which I dont do-not now nor ever. Other then maybe a glass of champagne on new years and a beer or 2 in the course of a whole year, I dont touch the stuff. The doctors never felt this was chronic pancreatitis-but they believed that endometriosis may be attached to the pancreas somewhere in my system which is extremely unusual. I guess my question is twofold. I have about 200 lbs to lose, and although I havent had an attack in over 4 years, of course I am scared to death that it will start again-I really cant even describe the kind of pain that was for me....My health is severely deteriorating due to the extra weight. I cant walk far because of my legs, my ankles are always swollen, I wake up short of breath very often, and I am out of breath from walking across the street. I really dont know how long my body can take all these extra pounds, and I have a 4 and a 5 year old to be here for. I am wondering if anyone here has had their pancreas affected by the band at all, and how it happened...If the surgeon is willing to do the lap band surgery, can anyone familiar with pancreas problems give me any suggestions as to what the dr could do to avoid it? Do you think the type of meds they use to put me under could also have something to do with the problems I have had? I know no one here is a dr, I am just wondering if anyone else has had any kind of experience with this sort of thing. I have been reading alot on alot of different message boards, and I havent seen anyone mention anything about it....:help: If youve gotten this far in my messy story, thanks for reading-and thanks to anyone who can offer me any insight. I do have an appointment in early July to start the ball rolling...I know the dr will have his own opinions....I guess I just want to know what others think as well... ~Dawn
  11. I found out yesterday I was approved, but I was told that I would have a year to do the surgery. Now I am told it is only good until the end of the year. I am so bummed, I planned on having it next spring. I can't afford to be off work for 6 weeks now. I have to be off for atleast 6 wks because I have to lift 75lbs at work. Thinking maybe I should just say heck with it and try diet medication instead of surgery. Now that I am approved my husband tells me I don't have to have surgery because I can do it without surgery if I just exercise.
  12. Here is a bit of history. I was banded on 3/27. I was on liquids for 3 weeks, started solids on 4/17. I was experiencing, what I thought was food getting stuck, until I realized I was getting this feeling after only having a slimfast shake in the AM. I finally figured out that it was acid reflux (flashback to when I was pregnant with my 4th dd). I am still able to eat solid food, just not the 4 oz. at a time. I usually end up eating about 2-3 oz. and then have Snacks (healthy ones) in the late morning and afternoon. I make sure I drink 64 oz. of Water each day. I have not vomited, PB'd or slimed or even been truly stuck. I had an appt. today for my first adjustment. After telling the PA about the acid reflux, she mentioned that it sometimes happens with a band slip. She said that the doctor that did my surgery tends to put in 1cc during the surgery and was taking it out. She actually took out 2.5cc. She thinks I may have had to much restriction from that and swelling. I'm am kind of nervous that she even mentioned slippage. I've looked up the symptoms of slippage and the only one I seem to have is the acid reflux. What do you all think? Should I be concerned that my band has slipped already? Also, I've only lost 20lbs. in the first month. Is that normal or am I already falling behind? Thanks for reading! KP

    Not Complaining But...

Got my band 12/21/11. First fill six weeks after I think to like 3cc I'll have to check I didn't paying attention it feels like forever. Then I had another 1/2cc every other month. My first real feeling of the band making me feel less hungry was at 3.5cc. But the 4cc was the real beginning of gradual weight loss. So I'm at 5.75 now. I was 267 size 24. I'm now 178 and some size 12's. I chose to make this weight loss slow, but it's going well with this most recent fill August 2. http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/w3x7zPz/

    Heartburn After Surgery

It could be from the swelling, you were just banded 3 days ago. I would get some Zantac 150 and take it both morning and night, see if that doesn't help.

  16. Hi all, I'm eight days out of my VSG surgery with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali and wanted to share my experience with anyone still trying to make the decision. I had questioned on these boards if he was really worth the extra money and let me say, without reservation, that he and his staff is worth every penny! I'm sorry this is so long - I tried to keep it brief but failed miserably. Day 1-2 pre-surgery: Of course the day before my flight out I had to work til 9pm, because I had to be up by 4am the next day to get to the airport. Nothing like starting out a long trip tired! Total travel time from my residence to San Diego was 24 hours, since I got delayed in LA. Ernesto was waiting to pick me up, along with my mom who met me in SD and another patient and her friend. They were gracious about having to wait the extra hour for me. I'd only slept about 20-30 minutes total on all those flights so I was super tired and wired. Drive to Mexicali took about 2.5 hours. We were met by Karla, an assistant, who walked us through our pre-op tests before meeting Dr. Aceves, Dr. Campos, and the anesthesiologist (by this time I'd been over 30 hours with no sleep so I can't remember his name but he was super nice.) First impressions of the hospital and especially the doctors was extremely good. Even so, due to lack of sleep and an 18 hour time change, I started doubting if I wanted to go through with it. Dr. Aceves and Campos spoke to us in length, answering every question we had. Dr. Aceves has THE BEST bedside manner and comes across as one of the most sincere, genuine, and compassionate people I've met. I immediately felt comfortable with him. Finally we were taken to our hotel about 15 minutes away, which is lovely. Mom and I set out to find carne asada tacos that I remembered from my time on the border and found a local hole in the wall joint that served amazing food!!! I savored every bite of my dinner. I didn't drink, even though Dr. A okayed 2 drinks, as between the lack of sleep and jet lag I figured it might give me a migraine. Surgery Day Thanks to jet lag I slept about 4 hours the night before surgery. I didn't really feel nervous except I really wanted to poop before it was my turn to go in. TMI, I know, but it's true! I was scheduled for 9 am. The shuttle was late picking us up so we got to the hospital about 30 minutes late. Karla was frantic since we still had to do our EKG and X-rays (we were too late the day before to finish). I changed into a gown, went poop (thank god!!), had a quick chat with Dr. Aceves, Dr. Campos, the anesthesiologist, and then the internal doc. All looked good so they loaded me on a gurney, put in an IV, and took me away. I still wasn't nervous; I think the whole thing just felt too surreal to process. When we arrived in the OR, I remember scooting to a different bed, and the anesthesiologist asking me if I wanted a pillow. I told him "I don't know" and he started saying something about how if I didn't know, I probably didn't need one, ha ha. Two seconds later I was waking up and it was done! I had a hard time waking up (remember the major lack of sleep) but I remember feeling nauseous and I did throw up once, right after telling them I was going to. No mess, no big deal. The rest of the day is a blur. All I remember is that sleeping felt SO GOOD! I pretty much drifted in and out all day. I think I only got up to pee once, in the middle of the night. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos each checked on me twice that day/evening. Day 1 Post Surgery I felt some pain in my abdomen but not much, as I was pretty drugged up. I slept A LOT that day. Nurses were very attentive and friendly. The docs came by to visit several times each. I got up to walk a couple of times and peed maybe twice all day/night. I thought it was weird I never had to go! I had a hard time sleeping that night, partly due to some pain (that was quickly administered to) and partly from the time change. Plus my stupid machine I was attached to kept beeping and waking me up. Grrr... Oh yeah, I drank the yucky blue liquid and was cleared for no leaks. I asked for crushed ice to numb my taste buds so I could choke the stuff down. It was nasty! After that I was given juice and Gatorade. It was really tough to try to drink and I had no desire whatsoever. Sip. Sip. Sip. Had a shower and changed into a fresh gown. I wasn't ready for PJs yet. I got a second sleeping pill midway through the night to help me sleep. The pain in my stomach started to increase and I was really uncomfortable. Day 2 Post Surgery I passed the barium swallow test and saw my new stomach. Holy cow, it's small! I was unhooked from the stupid beeping machine so Mom and I got outside a few times and walked around a few blocks. I was pretty slow and really had to force myself to stand up straight. My stomach felt like I'd been run over by a car. More walking, sipping, walking, sipping. Got into my PJs after a shower. Gas pains started. Ugh. I was so tired and slept a lot. There were other patients that had the surgery a day before me and they were all perky and looked like they felt great. I asked Dr. Aceves what was wrong with me since I still had pain and didn't feel perky AT ALL. He was very clear that I shouldn't compare myself to anyone else, as we're all different. I was freaking out that I was supposed to fly home in a few days - there was NO way I'd be fit to travel so fast! What were they thinking letting people check out after 3 days!?! I tend to act tough when I'm not but the gas pains got kinda bad that day and even though I could go outside and walk around, it was pretty uncomfortable. I think I was expecting a walk in the park. I was wrong. At one point I started crying and Dr. Aceves got more meds into me fast. He and Karla admonished me to not let the pain get too bad before saying something. They assured me the pain would reside once I got the drain removed. I was SO SO SO glad to still be in the hospital. I didn't feel regret but I did feel mad at myself for being in this situation - ie, getting so fat in the first place. (A few hours later I started my period so at least then I knew why I was being such a big baby.) Young Dr. Aceves (daughter of the great Dr. Aceves) took out my drain. I took a nap and woke up feeling much better. I had to get a second sleeping pill again this night. I was so thankful for the round the clock care I was getting. Day 3 Post Surgery - Checking out I finally got the IV out of my hand which was a relief. I woke up early, showered and felt great. Then after a couple of hours I was ready for my nap. The pain in my stomach was much duller. I was able to sip the juice, Gatorade and broth with no problem, but very little amounts. I got outside and walked around a few blocks, went to the pharmacy with my mom, and sipped some more. Even though it was Sunday, Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos were there, checking on everyone. Dr. Aceves wanted me to stay at the hospital until after lunch, as he knew how concerned I was about my long trip home in a few days. He reassured me and separately talked to my mom, telling her that I was doing great and would have nothing to worry about. At 1pm, Karla packed up some broth, juice, and Gatorade, and Ernesto whisked us away to the hotel, all of my medical records, DVDs of X-rays and my new stomach in a folder provided by Karla. I went out by the pool, poured myself into a lounge chair, and napped for about 2 hours. Glorious! Mom and I walked around a good deal that night, finding her some good food. I was able to walk comfortably, standing straight. Day 4 Post Surgery - Mexicali to San Diego Ernesto drove us to San Diego at 7am. It took about 3 hours with the border wait. Karla had reserved us a room for the next two nights. These people are so well organized and are there for us every step of the way! We took a short walk, I napped for a couple hours, then later we walked a good distance to find my mom dinner. I was starting to feel really good. I ordered broth and was able to eat a small amount with no problem. I'm a stomach sleeper and was finally able to sleep on my stomach with little discomfort. YAY! Day 5 Post Surgery Mom went home today so I was alone in SD. I woke up early to see her off then took a nap. I walked down to my former favorite Thai restaurant and scored some excellent broth. I felt really good and surprised that the pain just kept fading so fast. I took it easy that day, napping, reading, watching TV, walking a bit here and there. I felt really confident about flying home. Day 6 Post Surgery During my "2nd Day after Surgery Freakout" I upgraded my flight home to first class, thus rerouting me through my home town for 24 hours and breaking up my long trip. Score! I woke up again amazed at how much better I felt than even the day before. Fluids went down no problem. I got to see my family for a few hours that night. No one suspected I'd just had surgery. Day 7 and 8 Post Surgery I ran a few errands with my mom on the way to the airport. My mom was surprised at how perky and energetic I was. I was feeling great! I was able to sleep for a solid 2 hours on the 11 hour flight, thanks to my flat-bed seat. Got a massage at the Tokyo airport during my layover and walked around as much as possible. Slept for another 2 hours on the next flight. I arrived home at about 2:30 this morning and slept til nearly 7am. Took my doggies for a 2 mile/45 minute walk and unpacked. I'm tired and want a nap but am holding off for an early bedtime to try to re-adjust to the time change. I feel really great, no pain in my stomach, just a little mild discomfort. OK, how would I rate Dr. Aceves? 10/10. I cannot rave about this man enough. Really. Staff, including other doctors, the nurses, and patient coordinators? 10/10. Transportation and lodging? 10/10 If anyone has any questions about Dr. Aceves or my experience, please message me. Sorry for the long post!

    Surgery after pregnancy

My son was 16 months old and 25 lbs when I had my bypass. I didn't pick him up for the first week and a half. I picked him up the second week and only held him for small periods of time. I'm now 4 weeks out and hold him as needed with no issues. Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal

    Question about fills

My doctor schedules me every 6 weeks. So far I have needed to use them for fills every time. Your doctor will decide when you see him if a fill is need or not. Usually if you aren't losing 1-2 pounds a week, you are ready for a fill.

    Phase 2 diet

I don't know what your phase 2 diet is, as post op diets and progressions vary all over the map, but things like tuna salad and flakey fish were on our initial diet out of the hospital, so it is unlikely to have done any harm if you aren't feeling anything bad going on. We had a lot of freedom to move between liquids, mushies and soft things at will that first month, with the general rule being to try things one at a time to test for tolerance and if something didn't settle right, then skip that for a couple weeks and try it again. Some programs, on the other hand, are very cookie cutter and hold everyone back to the lowest common denominator so that no one has a "bad" experience, other than being on a liquid diet a lot longer than necessary for them. If you aren't feeling bad, I wouldn't bother calling, but I would 'fess up to the doc when you see them next, let them know that you goofed and didn't feel bad, and didn't do it again. This is feedback that they can use, as often they don't really know how fast they can progress their diets - I have seen some come through here saying that their doc advanced them ahead of the published schedule, and when asked why, they were told that they had found patients cheating on the diet and not suffering from it, so they advanced the progression, and the guidebook will be updated next time they print some.
  24. In a late endeavor to get thinner, I chose to attempt Garcinia Cambogia, which is a weight reduction item that was as of late said on one of the significant daytime TV programs. This item has helped me lose more than 30 pounds as such, so I needed to impart to you what I think about how it functions and all the more imperatively, what's in store when you take it. Where Can You Get It? I will begin by saying that before I buy Garcinia Cambogia extract on the web; I did go to my nearby Walmart for Garcinia Cambogia. The fact of the matter is that they didn't have it in stock and they still don't demonstrate to it in stock on their site. I discovered the same to be valid for Walgreens. In this way, I made my buy on the web. Completing so ended up being a great thought since when you request on the web, you additionally recover a cash ensure which is something that I don't accept I might have had in the event that I had the capacity to purchase it generally The extent to which Garcinia Cambogia Do You Need? The primary thing that you ought to verify is that the item is totally unadulterated. You don't need a considerable measure of fillers or you may not be getting enough of the dynamic element to really work. The studies that have been carried out on the concentrate from the tamarind soil grown foods were finished with 800mg of hydroxycitric corrosive (the animated part in Garcinia Cambogia), so on the off chance that you are purchasing an item that has short of what that, there is positively no certification that it will work. What you don't need is an item that holds any of the accompanying: - Extra stimulant - Guarana - Niacin - Fillers or additives The sum of the above will really weaken the adequacy of this item at last and could abandon you with reactions. In what manner should You Take This? Most masters concur that you ought to attempt to take one "serving" or "measurement", which is 800mg, about a prior hour lunch and supper, alongside a full glass of water. Finishing so will help to guarantee that you are feeling full, and you will consume less. It additionally permits the item time to begin getting into your fat cells before you besiege it with more calories. In short, 1. Take a container about a prior hour you consume a real feast 2. Bring it with a whole glass (8 ounces) of water 3. Attempt to consume gradually, consume while taking a seat, and consume a more modest feast, if conceivable. What Should You Expect? One thing that you may discover when you purchase from a retailer that is not the authority maker is that there are some "best in class" marks that you might never have become aware of. While these may be impeccably fine to take, most individuals want to take a brand that has been around for in any event a while, to guarantee general wellbeing. That is one motivation behind why such a variety of individuals are selecting the greatly improved known brands that region sold on the web. When you pick a brilliant item as I did, this is the thing that you ought to anticipate: 1. You won't feel hungry. 2. You will have more vitality (not in a jittery manner). 3. You will perceive inches lost in your waist inside around a week. 4. You will see a contrast on the scale in 2 to 3 days. It is safe to say that it is Safe to Buy a Weight Loss Product Online? One of the accurate profits of not purchasing Pure Garcinia Cambogia at your neighborhood retailer and rather purchasing it online is that you can purchase it straightforwardly from the producer. Completing so will provide for you a full cash back assurance on your buy, with is something that your neighborhood drug store most likely won't provide for you. Likewise, since this item isn't generally sold in different nations, when you purchase it on the web, you can get Garcinia Cambogia in Canada and the UK, as well. The other profit of purchasing this online is that you will generally get a full eating methodology and health improvement plan to help you with your eating regimen. Particularly in the event that you are attempting to lose a ton of weight, then this will help you to get the most out of the longing suppressant and fat blazing properties of this regular part. Is This Right Diet Product for You? It is dependably a great thought to converse with your specialist first. This is a characteristic item, yet obviously not all common items are a good fit for all individuals, particularly the individuals who are as of now taking pharmaceuticals. From an individual perspective, I could accomplish huge Garcinia Cambogia weight reduction.
  25. OK, here we go. I am going tonight to a seminar in Boston at Beth Isreal Hospital to hear all about the lapband. Even though I have already done a lot of research on it already I am really excited and eager to hear all about it once again and hopfully meet the surgeon that will change my life for the better. Since this is my first entry I will list my goals that I hope the Lapband surgery will help me in accomplishing: 1. I want to live a long and happy life for my children. My children mean the world to me and I can't imagine leaving them earlier than I am supposed to due to this baggage I have carried around for a lifetime. 2. I want to feel and be healthy. My doctors always say that my number, points etc. are all perfect but I know personally, that I don't feel perfect. 3. I want to be more like the woman my husband married. When we dated I was about 40 lbs less than what I am now. I was a lot more fun to be with, a lot more sure of myself. Now I never want to hang out with our group of friends because I am totally ashamed of how I look. 4. I want to be able to get dressed up for a special occasion without ending up in tears. I also want to be able to put pantyhose on without ending up all sweaty and out of breath. 5. I want to be able to borrow clothes. 6. I want to be able to shop at any store. 7. I want to sleep without my arms falling asleep. 8. I want to be able to walk on my feet without giving them time to adjust to the weight they are about to carry all day. 9. I want to be able to wear shorts and sleeveless shirts without the side effects of chub rub. 10. I want to stop sweating all the time. 11. I want to stop trying to hide lumps and bumps. 12. I want my boobs to get smaller so that my back stops hurting. 13. I would like to be invited to a pool party without that sudden fear. 14. I would like to chase after my children and enjoy it. 16. I would like to buy a halloween cosume that will fit me. 17. I would like to fall in that catagory as one size fits all. 18. I want to look tidy, not messy. 19. I want to stop fearing the airplane seat. 20. I would like to jog. 22. I would like to wear boots that go up to my knee. They have never fit my calf before. 24. I would like to stop getting dressed in the closet when my husband is in the room. ( this one should be #3) 25. I would like to take my clothes off and not have an impression of them still an hour later. I'm sure there are hundreds of other wishes but these have been on my mind most this year. Please who ever is wathching listening or reading hear my prayers or if you don't believe in that hocus pocus just send a little good energy my way. Words cannot explain how much I want this all to happen.
