help! less than 3 weeks away from surgery, STILL undecided!
Fawn1120 replied to Lee 316's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh my word! We have be sailing in the same boat! Im 3 weeks away from surgery. Everyday seems like the Last Supper. Not copious amounts of food, but whatever snack that I think I want to eat. I started to doubt that I wanted the surgery! Honestly, I think that I had to mourn the loss of my old eating habits. I have given up soda and do not drink with meals to trying to prepare and trying not to eat candy, etc. I was just struggling from knowing I won't be able to snack incessantly. Thankfully this week, I am getting excited once again. I don't want to eat mindlessly anymore. I feel ready! I think that I had to go through the emotions of giving up a part of me. I'm ready to change! I want this. I know it is a tool and not a magic wand. Maybe you, too, are going through emotions of the huge changes that lie ahead. The decision is still yours to make! Linda -
New and Excited

Welcome!!! My name is Daja. I recently got sleeved a little over 2 months ago on September 15th 2014. I chose the sleeve because I also was an emotional eater and I could never lose the weight and keep it off. During my transition I haven't had any complications..thank god..in the beginning there was a lot of pain..mainly in the incision site where the doctor removed the stomach. But that pain only lasted for about a week. I was immediately walking right after surgery. As far as eating goes..the first 2 weeks I was on full liquid. .them 2-4 weeks I was on purees and soft. Now I am on a regular diet. There is restriction. I can eat about 3 or 4 spoon fulls and be full. I work out for about 2 hours a day. At 2 months out I have lost 50 lbs. Staying hydrated was hard in the beginning because of how much your pouch can handle in the beginning but once u get the hang out it..it's ok. ..so that's my story..lol..I really didn't have any bad experiences but good luck to you and if you have any questions feel free to ask -
My surgeons office called and I got approved from the insurance (it only took 1 week). I have just got to get them a letter from my cardiologist to say I am clear and I can schedule my surgery. I went to the cardiologist because I was having irregular heartbeats during pregnancy. They said it was dehydration so there should not be a problem. YIPEEEEEE!!! I am on my way:thumbup:

Banded 2 Yrs Ago And Lost My Way
ANicoleLL replied to ckat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey! Don't be ashamed about slowing down. I started feeling that way too but then I joined a gym. Trust me - I was very nervous about joining. But it was AWESOME! I love it! I could work out every day if I could. I like to go atleast 4 times a week. I would recomend starting out at a smaller gym. They are more comfortable feeling and ALL types of people go. Not just the skinny minis. Anywho! Good Luck! Remember - we all have messed up before - that's why we had the surgery. You can change things around! Believe in yourself. -
I noticed you had surgery the same day as me. My nutritionist and doctor both said I could try solids after 2-3 weeks and although I still have no appetite yet, I have been trying little bites of meat such as turkey, pork chop, and roast beef. They seem to go down ok as I have no problem or pain with them. My doctor said don't eat if your not hungry so I feel guilty for eating them, but I know I need protien and eat nothing else. What is your post op diet, and have you tried any solids yet? Do you have any hunger pains yet? I'd appreciate any information you could give me on your experience if you don't mind sharing. Thanks

Well. I did not wait long. I resumed drinking about 6 months out I think. And that was a big mistake, at least for me. Alcohol effects me differently now. If I haven’t eaten enough I get DRUNK FAST and I’ll blackout. It’s bad. I had to learn that the hard way. It’s also takes the place of food calories because I struggle to drink and eat together so it becomes a choice between drinking or eating. And I need the food more. And you do too!! Especially early on. I do love wine but even three years out I try and limit my alcohol intake. I’m careful about it. I can see why you want to drink and I wouldn’t think in moderation it’s a problem. But it could possibly slow your weightloss. For me, it did not slow my weightloss but I oddly tend to lose weight when I drink. Most people gain from it. But if you are feeling healthy I don’t see a problem with having a little in moderation here and there, maybe a Glass now and then. I’d say in the first year you can just be very cautious. [emoji4] and don’t let people on here bully you. There is a nice way to give advice and trollish ways. Just remember the people on here, they are all hungry and sober AF.

At least you weren't already over a week into your pre-op liquid diet or something! Definitely does suck to have to change all your plans and wait an extra week, though.

Type II Diabetes After Surgery
Pescador replied to SamPSUfan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Off Metformin immediately after surgery. My husband takes insulin once a day not twice. His blood sugar doesn't drop to 40 at night in three years. He has had ketoacidosis with a blood sugar of 747. Our A1c readings are excellent! -
Hello everyone, today is my 4 week sleeve anniversary and I weighed in at 235.7, dropped 35lbs. I am so very happy that I made this decision. It's days like this that out weighs that little voice I hear sometimes telling me that I would never be able to eat like others, but that's fine because I'm not like others, but soon I will be looking like others! April sleevers rock!!!!

got my insurance approval today!
dragonflylover replied to dragonflylover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I checked online everyday for about 2 weeks for approval. it kept saying pending. but i think it was because my surgeons office was waiting on a clearance report.. but once they have the report.. my insurance was approved the next day. depending on your insurance company and what they require.. usually it doesn't take too long. i did not have to do any pre-op diet. i just have to do all liquids the day before surgery. hang in there.. your approval will come. did check out the medical guidelines to bariatric surgery for your insurance policy? that helped me a lot.. i read the requirements and qualified.. good luck! -
I thought the same thing cause I enjoyed a cocktail often .what if I get into surgery and they say I have a fatty liver and I wake up and they couldn't do it ,everything worked out fine now 3 weeks post op your not alone seems a lot of us share the same fears good luck with your surgery
-
I experienced the same hunger issues and fear during my pre-op diet. Along with the fear I would have the crazy liver that didn’t shrink and on surgery day would be told it was a no go. After a week of the pre-op the hunger feeling kinda went away, but I was still worried. I forced myself through the first week by making sure I stayed busy and wasn’t thinking about food. At home, I “Spring Cleaned” every room. The feelings only came on me when I was doing nothing and was bored. Now 4 days post-op, I had to set reminders to have my purée meals and drinks and medications. I even started writing the times down so I don’t forget. Hope the helps.

I was very nervous about this same thing before surgery....mostly because I couldn't always tell the difference between actual hunger and cravings/head hunger and I couldn't ever say no to myself. The first week or so after surgery was pretty rough - but I knew 100% it was head hunger and I couldn't physically eat or drink any more than what was recommended so I didn't have the option to give in to the cravings. So that helped me figure out the difference and now I can more easily recognize when it's just a craving vs. actual hunger. I also had a good 3-4 month period after surgery where I was not hungry at all. I had heard people mention that but prior to surgery I just didn't believe it was possible because in my past diet experience all I felt was the awful hunger. But it is absolutely possible and that's what is good about this tool. It gives you a fighting chance because you don't have to deal with the hunger for awhile. You'll be ok!

Hi everyone, I attended the weight loss seminar in December and decided to wait till the first of the year to get the ball rolling. I had my first appointment with the NP and my PSY eval on January 10, 2011. I finally got a call yesterday that they were submitting everything to insurance and I will start my 4 WEEK Nutrition classes March 7, 2011. I am assuming my surgery will be the first or second week of April! I am scared but not about the surgery or the after part. I am afraid to be put under anesthesia. I HATE it. I know it is safe but I am still worried. My husband is Amazing and has stood by me while deciding on moving forward with Lap Band. He just wants me to be healthy. A little about me. I am originally from RI and moved to Ohio when my husband completed his NAVY commitment. I have tried WW, a program at our local YMCA (biggest loser) was a 8 week program I lost 8 pounds but now have regained that 8 plus another 9. I have been struggling with infertility for over 6 years now, and can only hope that Lap band will help with our journey to become parents. We are approved for an Open adoption also and are waiting for a birthmother to contact us. Look forward to making some new friends on here

The Naysayers.....do It Naturally! How To Handle Them.
SensationallySassyT posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone I am in my very early stages of Pre op I am ordered to wait 2-3 months before I begin my appointments with the NUT and the Psychologist etc. Meanwhile I have been reading and researching like crazy!!!! The few that I have shared this interest with recommend I eat smaller portions and do it the natural way~ this only causes me more frustration because I can NOT do this on my own! I have tried, I am trying with little success I am 5'3 255lbs~ I seem to go up 5lbs and drop 5lbs I attend a kickboxing academy 3-4x a week and utilize MYFITNESSPAL to track my meals~ { add me sensationallysassyt} My question is what has made the sleeve a success for you when so many other diets have failed in the past? What can I do to prepare myself for success both Pre and post op for not only weight loss but for a healthier lifesyle as well??? Thanks T~ -
Would i know if I slipped?
FLORIDAYS replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquids for 2 weeks post op and then a week of runny mushies... so I am guessing the oatmeal and or potatoes may have just been too much to fast... Also If I eat right after sleeping I have all sorts of problems. You are healing now... I cannot imagine the band slipped but hopefully your dr will give you an answer soon. -
I am about 3 months pre-op for my sleeve. The nut said my meds need to be crushed for a few weeks post-op. All of my pressure meds websites say do not crush. Some of them are big. Any advice is appreciated.

I've been reading some of the threads and I'm concerned and confused. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and I've been following my diet just as I was told. But I have noticed that I tend to forget to drink my liquids slowly. I'm afraid I'm might of done something wrong because I feel heartburn. It doesn't feel too bad and it does go away after a while. After reading about slippage I'm afraid that might of happened. My first filling is set for June 18, that's when I'm planning to tell my doctor about my concerns. Has anyone experience this without it being slippage?

My name is Jim and I just had lap band on 11/06/08, I have already lost over 45 LBS!!!!! Well okay, I am streaching the truth a little. I have lost a couple of pounds but have not weighed in yet waiting to see what I lose in the first week. I have been off work, as I work in a physically stressful position and I have been trying to return to a normal lifestyle, but I am constantly fatigued. I did some basic figuring last night and believe that is because I have only been taking in about 350 calories a day. so I am in the process of doubling that today with the High Protien Boost! The only alarming thing that has happened is I had awoken to bruises all around the port sight to the large incision. Have I overdone it on the lifting weight limit, or is the natural to occur after you stop recieving the anti blood clot injections that I had been getting every 6 hours while I was hospitalized (been home 3 days)? Good Luck everyone! Jim

I'm so glad to see so many of us with the same date! I look forward to hearing from all of you later this week to hear how everything went. Good luck to you all!

First of all, What surgery did you have? What does a typical day of eating look like for you? Calories, carbs, protein, water intake? How much exercise do you get weekly? Minutes, type of exercise? Do you eat and drink at the same time? Do you graze? To find the root of your stall, we need more information to help you. Please give us more insight into what your day looks like.

Anyone else having surgery June 11 at Tijuana bariatrics?
Erika Denise replied to Indianasleeve616's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everything actually went great. I had watched so many YT vids it felt like I had been there before lol. The only thing I found different was that there was much more of a language barrier in the hospital than I'd expected. A couple of the nurses spoke no English. It wasn't a problem just made me feel very alone ( my mom flew into San Diego, but I crossed the border alone ) Everyone was very nice and accommodating from the hospital, to the hotel, down to the drivers. It was well organized and definitely changed my whole perception of Tijuana. As for healing I am feeling somewhere between 85%-90%. Im in almost no pain. Yesterday made a week so I'm happy with that! The all liquids post op, had me really weak at first. Today was the first day I've left the house for errands and such. Luckily I'm a teacher so I have a little extra time to get back to normal. I'm going to a wedding tomorrow, but Sunday I WILL revisit the gym. Hw was 265 sw was 255 today a week later I'm 245! ... lol I hope I answered something. I feel this was all over the place. I took many pics and vids, I will try to have them on yt soon. I'll keep you posted. Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know. Who shares my Happy Band Day 10-29-07?
victoria52 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So we are officially 1 week post op. How are ya'll doing? I am pretty darn good, and going to work tomorrow for the first time since surg. Still am having a little feeling of stomach swelling from time to time, but overall way less sore. Lost 13 # on my less than 2 week high protein, low carb diet and have lost 3 more since the day of surgery. I'm happy about that, still on full liquid diet, I think for 1 more week. Good luck to you all and I wish you a speedy recovery and great success. -
Surgery Scheduled November 13th -- Lost 7 pounds this week!
jessicakolman posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So....The plan was that I was going to be on a pre-op diet consisting of high protien liquids. Well that plan didn't work out so well. Instead I got a nasty cold recently and have had no appetite for anything. In that process I've lost 7 pounds in less then a week! I'm scheduled for the surgery next Friday. I'm feeling better as far as the congestion/runny nose, but I still have a cough. I hope by Tuesday (my pretesting) that I'll be cough free. I really don't wanna reshedule this surgery! Cross your fingers I get better fast!
