  1. From smoothie Girl Eats Too Blog http://www.smoothiegirleatstoo.com/2010/11/moist-low-calorie-microwave-protein-fudge-muffins/ This is seriously AMAZING! I use the applesauce instead of the pumpkin and use 1 TBSP of coconut flour and 1 TBSP of Protein powder. I also have added a TBSP of sugar free pudding. I have made the chocolate below, vanilla using vanilla Protein Powder and SF vanilla pudding (adds 25 calories), and cheesecake using vanilla protein powder and cheesecake SF pudding. With the coconut flour, they are so light and delicious! I also just use a whole egg instead of egg whites (70 cal vs 30 cal), but that is just me. With my changes the stats are a little higher: Per Serving: 194Cal 23g Carbs 9g fat 15g protein 5g Fiber 6g sugar Note that I am 2.5 years post op. I can eat one of these, but it is VERY filling. Newer post ops might be able to do half if lucky! Ingredients: 2 Egg whites (**If using liquid egg whites use 1/2 cup and add 20 calories) 1/4 cup pumpkin (3 T applesauce or other starchy carb works well too!) 2 T coconut flour* (1 T also works, and results in 40 fewer calories) 1/2 tsp baking powder stevia or other granular sweetener to taste 1 T. cocoa powder (Hershey’s Special dark cocoa is best!) *(Edited to add: Hallie asked if whole wheat or peanut flours could sub for the coconut flour. I decided to do a test for those two and they both work. The whole wheat is not quite as moist; it’s a bit more chewy, but the peanut flour is very moist. All taste great. My fave is still coconut flour, but obviously you can use whatever you have on hand!). Also, some other subs for pumpkin or applesauce are bananas or yogurt which are quite good too. I love all the reader feedback! Method: Spray a Soup bowl with a very light layer of oil to prevent sticking (not even necessary but makes cleaning up a bit easier). Mix ingredients well with fork, whisk or spatula Microwave for 2:30-4+ min on High (depends on your microwave, altitude and the whim of the cupcake gods.)
  2. I wish this was talked about more. These refined carbs are in everything, especially corn. If I eat something with refined corn, even something as small as a bite of yogurt, I will be hungry for days. And when I try to make sure that I don't accidentally eat it, people treat me like I'm a wacky health nut. Which is funny considering I'm 224 lbs.

    Delicious Healthy Wraps

I just started full liquids today so I'm just dreaming about the future.... lol Eggface (the website with all the great recipes) posted a 'master wrap list'. what is your menu?

can we refrain from blatant advertising do you think? What's on my menu for today? Um, I had oatmeal with sultanas and cinnamon for Breakfast Just had a corned beef and pickle sandwich and a yogurt for lunch chicken chow mein for dinner tonight. I will NOT eat between meals today! I've been shocking lately. Probably because if I can eat a sandwich and a yogurt all within an hour I probably need some fill. Not sure.

    what is your menu?

Oh, sorry, you were asking about liquids, stupid me. Here I am just tempting you with things, lol. When I was on liquids, I blended up real food. I didnt live on Protein shakes (although I had them then as I wasnt eating a lot of anything). but I made really good hearty Soups full of Pasta, meat, lentils and veg and I blended those up, I'd blend yogurt and fruit together with some bran in it too for a smoothie with some fibre, and for some carbs for energy. I even blended up my Christmas dinner with extra chicken stock! I found liquids really easy and honestly, I lost tons of weight in that time, eating well didnt stop me losing.
  6. My nut said to use dry powder milk to double protien during first couple of weeks use in soups, cerials, and anything like yogurt. I only have to do one protien shake And I found out why I stalled...to few calories lol never been told in my life I wasn't eating enough lol

    Preop diet to shrink liver

My doctor didn't want it to be liquid only unless you were over 300lbs. My pre-op was a combo of light eating (egg, yogurt, lean meat, veggies) and protein shakes. 2 shakes, 2 light meals. I lost 16lbs in 2 weeks and my doc said everything looked great during surgery.

    Need Help Please!

Besides scrambled I had poached, soft boiled, hard boiled, over easy, sunny side up, deviled, essentially any way I could cook an egg I could have it. In addition, I could have mild steamed or poached fish; canned or packet tuna, salmon and chicken plain or as salad with lowfat mayo; vegetarian soy products; cooked cereal thinned with skim milk; nonfat refried beans; nonfat yogurt without added sugar; low salt V-8 juice; unsweetened apple sauce; mashed ripe banana; skim or lowfat cottage or ricotta cheese; mashed squash, white potato, sweet potato. These were all considered a good consistency so none of it had to be pureed.
  9. I weigh myself every day, because ignoring the scale when I was fat was a way of denying that I had a problem with food. However, I am pretty laid-back and don't obsess about the number. I'm in maintenance and as long as I'm under 140, all is good. Over that, out goes the yogurt and oatmeal and in come the hard-boiled eggs and protein shakes!

    The "C" word: Constipation

I posted nearly the same thing a couple of months ago, and we share a band-date  Everyone told me, which I have since implemented, that the time I'd been told to wait was ridiculous. I actually do feel better seeing you were told the same thing, silly as it sounds, because I was starting to feel like I'd imagined that wait time! A lot of responses I got were that I should wait at least a half an hour before and after. My band isn't really restrictive just yet, so I can sometimes get away with less time, but I only do that when I'm extremely can't-wait-another-5-minutes kind of thirsty. I don't take any fiber supplements, but I have noticed certain foods help me - like beans (lentils specifically - but you can see the fiber content on any package/can), broccoli, apples and grapes. Also, yogurt (in general) seems to help. Just for flavor ideas, I sometimes get either regular plain yogurt or greek yogurt, and cut in some mango or add a scoop of protein powder for flavor. Based on other answers before mine though, fiber you can add to water definitely sounds like a good idea. The one thing my doc warned me about is that fiber fills you up, so maybe don't take it right before you're going to eat, or after a meal. Not sure about the liquid fiber though.

Mushies - How Many Calories A Day?

My thanks to all of you who took the time to respond. I'm taking your advice to heart, because I think that I'm in starvation mode, too. I'm walking half an hour a day, so add that to the mix. I'll split my Isopure into morning and evening, add the Greek yogurt (Fage 0% fat), mix the Isopure with lowfat milk (can't handle non-fat), and just try harder, I guess. Soforreal, I'm glad that I'm not the only one struggling with this. Cowgirl, I have at least one egg (poached) a day. Love 'em. Thanks again, everyone, and have a Happy New Year!

    Day 5 after surgery

Day 5 was yesterday, but I was too tired and sore to make an entry. I was more tired and sore on Day 5 than I have been so far. I also had a very throbbing headache. I didn't take any pain medication this day and only had a few doses of tylenol. I believe the headache was from "coming down" from the pain meds as this is how I normally react to vicodin and loritab. I slept all but about 3 hours yesterday. My husband said that he tried to wake me several times and that he has never seen me sleep so hard. I am normally a very light sleeper and the slightest noise has me O.O wide awake. For breakfast (at about 6pm): I had 3oz of my sugar free, low carb 4oz yogurt cup. each serving has very low sugar because it is made with splenda and a good amount of protein. Slept in between. For dinner (at about 1am): 1.5 pieces of lean cuisine ricotta ravioli I was down to 213 on my home scale today.

    Another "Old Timer" With Issues

I have been almost totally unfilled for one week now, due to a large esophageal dilation. I am allowed only liquids and mushies. I have not cheated, but out of self-pity I have eaten some things I should not have. In the last week, I have had: 3 kinds of beans 2 kinds of potatoes 4 varieties of soup many flavors of LF yogurt SF Popsicles SF fudgesicles applesauce ice cream (the real thing, but only the little Dixie cups and only one per day) SF Jello (with FF topping) lots of hot tea, SF peach tea, and bottled water Starbucks non-fat latte SF pudding left-over chocolate from Easter (almost all gone now, thank goodness) If in doubt, I put it in the blender to make sure it's "legal". Sometimes it turns out yummy....sometimes not. I could have eaten blended "chili soup" but anything spicy right now burns my throat - it's that irritated.

I don't know what to eat!

Until last week I too had been struggling with what to eat and how much. My surgeon said a saucer of food was how much I should eat 3 times a day. Well I could fit alot of food on a saucer. I thought I was doing right, but I was not losing at all once I went to solid foods. One of his office staff came to the montly support group meeting and brought us a menu plan to try for a month. It was set up by their onstaff nutritionist. It's really helped. I've been on that plan for 6 days and I've lost 5lbs. I thought I'd share it with you all in case anyone is interested. On this plan I'm allowed to choose 3 meals and 1 snack per day and ONLY eat what's on this list. My doctor's mostly focused on watching fat grams so that's why items are fat free whenever possible. Clear Liquids driving me mad...

Hello again, Well you are only 6 days post op so you can have yogurt and pudding, on top of chicken broth. I lived on it for 2 weeks. stay away from the meats until at least week 4. I eat meat now but waited until my 4th week. I had my one month anniversary on the 28th of september. You don't have to do all liquids for 2 weeks. I had lost 38lbs by the 26th and now am at 43 lbs and this in 6 weeks. i did lots of liquids, but also pudding and slim fast and stuff. you have to make sure you get your protiens in.
  18. Okay guys, I am only 7 days post op and I've got so much information floating around my brain that I'm confusing myself. Now, I understand that I shouldn't drink during meals, and a certain time period before and after. My question is...since I am on full liquids, does this rule still apply? The reason I'm asking is that I have found myself becoming more ravenous as the days pass. I don't have a problem not drinking Water while I'm "drinking my meal", but since I have started to develop this constant hunger, I'd like to be able to sip on water when the stomach starts to growl. Often that is 10-15 minutes after a bowl of Soup, Protein shake, or yogurt. I'm assuming that if I'm getting hungry so quickly after a "meal", then the liquid is running through the band rather quickly. So does that mean that I'm not in danger of washing away my meal if I sip on water when I feel hungry? Or should I just dive face first into another bowl of soup?:confused2:
  19. I got unjury Protein Powder that was unflavored. Another thing is to add silken tofu. It blends up and you can't taste it and it is thin enough to eat. I am going to paste some soup recipes that I have used that might give you some heartiness. It sounds like you can have thick liquids if you are eating yogurt. You may need to strain or blend the crap out of these to fit the level of thickness you can have. Soup recipes Roasted Tomato with Roasted Garlic This recipe yielded about 1 cup. Ingredients: ½ container of grape tomatoes 4-6 cloves of garlic (depends on size and strength of garlic desired) 4 oz of silken tofu 2 TBSP of fresh basil (2-3 tsp of dried basil) Salt and pepper to taste Directions: 1. Peal the garlic and wrap in a small piece of aluminum foil. 2. Place the tomatoes on a cookie sheet and spray with PAM, sprinkle with salt and pepper. 3. Put the tomatoes and garlic in a 350 degree oven until done. a. Tomatoes will burst and shrivel a bit b. Garlic will be soft and mash easily with a fork c. Tomatoes will probably finish before the garlic 4. Place the tomatoes and garlic in a food processor (or blender) 5. Add the tofu and blend until almost smooth. 6. Heat through and add the finely chopped basil at the end. 7. Simmer for a few minutes to let the flavors blend. 8. If necessary thin out with FF evaporated milk. Grilled Asparagus Soup Ingredients: ¼ pound or more of asparagus 2-3 cloves of garlic (depends on size and strength of garlic desired) 4 oz of silken tofu ¼ small onion (more or less depending on taste) ¼ -1/3 cup of LF shredded cheese. Salt and pepper to taste Directions: 1. Either boil grill on BBQ (much better!) the asparagus until just undercooked. a. To grill on BBQ spray with PAM and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place in aluminum foil if you do not have a flat grill on BBQ. 2. Sautee garlic, onions and cooked asparagus 3. Place veggies in a food processor (or blender) 4. Add the tofu and blend until smooth. 5. Add FF evaporated milk until correct texture. 6. Heat to desired temperature Sautéed Mushroom and Tuna Soup (This was my way of eating tuna noodle casserole…soup style!) Ingredients: ½ pound or more of mushrooms (any kind will work) 2-3 cloves of garlic (depends on size and strength of garlic desired) 4 oz of silken tofu or white Beans ¼ small onion (more or less depending on taste) 1 can of tuna fish Salt and pepper to taste Directions: 1. Sautee mushrooms, garlic and onions until desired texture. 2. Add to food processor or blender. 3. Add 4oz of silken tofu or ½ can of white beans (depending on your taste!) 4. Add drained tuna fish (or any other canned fish) 5. Puree to desired texture. 6. Heat and add FF evaporated milk to thin if needed So as you can see, the base for these soups is pretty much the same. If you don’t like tofu I would assume that white canned beans would work just as well. Experiment with different spices, add a little parmesan cheese, or different veggies. Right now you shouldn’t be worrying as much about calories, but rather about healing. If you would like add meat to any of these it would work just fine. Ground chicken, hamburger, and ground turkey all pulverize very well. You will most likely just have to thin it out with the FF evaporated milk. That one ingredient has changed my way of cooking. Once you graduate to real foods you can have chicken Alfredo for VERY few calories by using this one ingredient. Another soup that has good flavor is to just take some refried beans and beef stock. It has a lot of flavor and a lot of protein to keep you fuller longer. Also take some spaghetti sauce and add some pulverized veggies to it and it makes it better. Adding some pureed white beans also helps it feel like more food.

    Maintenance meal ideas, please

Thanks for the input, Denise. I am a big fan of Greek yogurt. I put soynuts and SF syrup in it. I can tolerate fruit and will see if I can get at least 2 servings of that a day.
  21. Hi, I'm scheduled for my surgery this Monday. Having a terrible time with the protein shakes. I have tried Unjury and GNC I get them down then they come right back up! Tonight I decided to go through my paperwork for day before surgery list of what I am allowed to eat. As I looked I notices that the 2 week liquid diet does not have yogurt or oatmeal on it BUT the day before surgery it's on the list?? Does that make sense to anyone? I would be doing fine with my protein if I could be eating Greek yogurt!!! I called my doctors office but they are closed until tomorrow.
  22. Looking for some breakfast ideas. Went through a phase of having a shake every morning, then it was a bar, then yogurt....now Im bored. Thanks.
  23. Light Greek yogurt 1 cup skim milk blend it up with a little ice 180 calories 20 grams of protien and none of the icky taste of the protien mixes
  24. Today i have ate and ate and i’m not feeling full, i had an omlette for breakfast, then a protein drink, some chicken and veg curry with wholemeal rice for lunch, a plum for a snack, then for tea i had cod with salad, then tonight iv had pineapple, a greek yogurt, and some cottage cheese but i still feel hungry, iv been drinking fluids incase i’m just thirsty but it’s not, i know it must be all in my head, but i’m just not getting that full feeling. Any advice please.
  25. I haven't had popcorn. But if you eat it without butter I'd say it's probably a healthy alternative. I would imagine if your tummy can tolerate it you should be okay. A friend of mine had a Weight Watchers recipe where she put cinnamon on the popcorn. Holy cow was that good! I had it pre surgery but am thinking that might be a good snack. Another snack that I like a lot is beef jerkey. Packed with Protein and lower in calories. You have to be careful with it and not eat too much. Plus it's high in sodium so if you have any heart issues that could be concerning. But it's my go-to snack if I want something immediate. I also love greek yogurt (has to be plain with some stevia). The already flavored greek yogurt is super high in sugar so my NUT recommended plain. I add some frozen fruit and mix in the sweetener and I'm good to go with that. Bottom line, find what you like and read the label. If it doesn't fit with your nutritional goals, find something similar that does. Think before you eat. And, stop mindless eating. Your nutritionist should be able to help you walk through some good food options. if you don't have a nutritionist, get one. You need one.
