    Food amounts

I was sleeved 8/3 and I concentrate on the Protein, 80-100 gms a day, 800-1000 calories a day, 64ounces of liquid, I do not always meet that, it is hard, and low sugar, low fat. am following the program. I do not eat full meals, except for dinner, a shake for Breakfast, cheese, or salad and hard boiled egg for lunch, tuna 5 oz, sometimes mixed with egg and small amounts of light mayo. Snack afternoon, sometimes yogurt and cottage cheese, and then my dinner, 4-5oz of protein, and veggies, sometimes a snack at night 1 tsp of cashew butter, sometimes prunes. I have lost including preop 42 lbs, which I think should be more, I work out and strength train,4-5 days a week, so I am doing all I can. Good luck hope some of this helps.
  2. Hi all, About 6 mo out now. I'm finding pacing myself while eating is difficult, esp. in college when you're always short on time. In general though, I haven't seen my capacity change since the beginning to now, it can take me five, ten or fifteen, thirty minutes, I'm still only going to be able to fit half a cheesestick, or half a container of yogurt in or x amount of other things. If anything, these days, my capacity is less. How long do you usually take to eat? Tips for eating slower? I also find myself eating a bit quicker because food is just... good, and I don't really think about eating super slow anymore. Although I'm not eating unhealthy and mostly Protein based, I worry I will stretch my sleeve (I did over eat a few times since leaving home but thats MOSTLY subsided) and sometimes eating at the rate I've been at has made me not feel very well physically and/or emotionally. Should I stop eating right before I'm full, or until I'm COMFORTABLY full? I just feel stress and guilt because I honestly don't know. I've had a harder time since leaving home and I'm honestly doing my best while struggling to get protein in which will lead to "I need another bite of this chicken" and then feeling awful for it. I don't chug but I kind of gulp Water, too. Could a negative effect come from this?

Lists of foods and stuff to buy

There is a big gastric sleeve book on this site with dietary guidelines and its also online. I can't figure out how to add the link. The first few days after surgery i was on clear liqids: broth. Sf jello. Clear protein drink. Days 4-13 full liquids: add pureed foods and cream soups, yogurt and pudding along with water and protein. Days 14-20 were mushy foods. Add scrambled eggs, tuna salad and ricotta and similar foods along with protein and water. Days 21 soft foods and add regular foods as you tolerate them. Protein first always. Water. And vitamins. Those were instructions from my surgeon.

    Post op struggle.

I had my surgery on 10/13. I think you might be taking in to many calories. Try cutting it back a bit. I'm basically just drinking my protein shake and yogurt. Getting plenty of water too. Good luck...

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I don't like yogurt. I used to like it some when I was a kid but the older I get the less I like to the point I am at now. I have so few calories to work with each day, I am not going to waste time trying to force myself to like something that I don't like and isn't essentials. There are lots of sources of Protein. You don't have to force yourself to like something you don't like.

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I'm suppose to keep my sugar grams at 5 or less. All these yogurts you all are talking about that sound so wonderful all have way more than 5gm of sugar in them. I don't think ill be able to have any of them!

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I really like the oikos triple yogurt vanilla flavor. But I've always loved yogurt too and cottage cheese too!

    Greek yogurt:( yuck !

I'm not much on yogurt, but I did stumble on that Oikos Triple Zero Greek stuff during the months leading up to my pre-op diet. I stress that I don't care for yogurt in general.....but this stuff is great. I'm glad I found out about it. It needs nothing extra to taste really good. My husband who hasn't had any surgery and isn't overweight (brat lol). Loves the triple zero yogurt too. He actually likes almost all the "healthy" food that I'm eating also. Like the veggie chips (pre op) even my broth I drank lol.

I have heard several people say that so I think I will give it a try.

Pre-op just look to foods like dark leafy green veg, Beans if you like them, apples, whole grains. Post-op it gets more challenging. Any easy fix I recommend would be wheatgerm, flax powder or psylium powder. A tsp added to yogurt, Soup or a Protein shake daily might help keep you regular. You could also use these food pre-op as well. Keeping a food diary on Myfitnesspal is a good place to start because you can start tracking what foods give you the best bang for the buck.

    Meal / food help please!

at the beginning - tuna with a small amount of yogurt worked well for me (plus lots of protein). I added some herbs like Dill too. Other go to "real food" for me was rolled up sliced turkey (or any sandwich meat) with string cheese. This went down well too. Finally - try yogurt with soft fruit like kiwi or melon. If you use Fage it has the highest Protein. good luck !

    Greek yogurt:( yuck !

I hate Greek yogurt and will not eat it but that's just me
  16. The only powders that I have enjoyed or the Syntrax Sweets. Syntrax has a huge variety of flavors, ranging from chocolate, to fuzzy navel and even an ice tea w/lemon flavor. I order mine from Amazon as it is just easier that way. I blend my in a little nutri-bullet with ice, unsweetened almond milk, a pump or two of SF Torani syrup and plain greek yogurt. It ends up feeling more like a treat and less like a requirement.
  17. I hadn't thought about missing those powders with plain Greek yogurt. Can't wait to try it. Post op.
  18. I start my pre-op diet on 11/2 First 10 days shakes/broth/yogurt/ Last 4 days clear liquid only! I need a substitute for jello because I eat kosher... Any suggestions???
  19. My biggest problem is grazing. I don't really like the feeling of solid Protein in my stomach. Solid protein hurts pretty quickly. I hate that too full feeling which happens almost immediately. Then I end up grazing all the time. I eat yogurt, Protein shakes, cheese, etc. It's very easy to fall away from all the rules. The trick is remembering what they are and forcing yourself to get back on track.
  20. It is very possible to get enough Protein from food, but probably not at only 2 months post op. At 6 months post op, I still have the best days intake wise when I add protein to my drinks or to my yogurt. On food alone, I can barely break 90g unless I eat meat and cheese for every meal. Eventually people stop taking protein from shakes and supplements all together, which is fine, but at 2 months post op, you're setting the foundations for long term success. I dont have a protein shake everyday, but i make sure protein makes up 60-75% of my meal. If I have a salad, it has meat on it and I eat the protein before I get to the salad part. Which generally is never because I'm full from the meats. On days where I don't feel like eating much, I have a lot of greek yogurt and a protein shake or scoop unflavored protein into food. I agree, you don't need to necessarily DRINK your protein, but you need to be getting it in somehow.

How much do you eat a day

In the mornings Breakfast comes in two stages. First stage is four ounces of 2% Fairlife Milk. I keep a couple of coffee mugs in the freezer and they keep my milk cold as I sip on the milk. Even slightly less than ice cold milk is yuck! When the rest of the family is waking up, needing breakfast, coffee, lunches made and what not; I usually have some form of egg (usually lightly scrambled) with some shredded cheese, a little hot sauce and a few small bites of Turkey sausage (or Turkey bacon). I stay pretty full from about 6-10 between the milk, the eggs and the turkey. By ten I'm starting to feel hungry and will then snack on either a cheese stick, a Babybel or Tillamook cheese snack. At lunch (between 12-1) I will have a Laughing Cow cheese wedge, spread over two thin slices of either turkey or chicken from my local deli. I usually dip them in Spicy Mustard. I don't ever need more than that but sometimes I will eat another half cheese stick. Sometimes I have shrimp (steamed from home) dipped in homemade cocktail sauce or chicken salad from my grocer. Sometimes I will eat the chicken (or egg or tuna) salad with a few Wheat Thins. By three or three thirty I will have a Greek Yogurt. I aim for no more than 10 grams of sugar, no less than 12 grams of Protein and no more than 100 calories. This gives me lots of options. Chobani Simply 100, Dannon Light and Fit, Oikos Triple Zero. Some flavors work well with PB2 powder (Jiffy makes one that has equal nutritional value) and with that I can up my protein intake from 12 to 16 or 17 grams of protein. dinner is always varied but centers around lean Proteins and well cooked non-starchy veggies (green Beans, asparagus, zucchini, squash). Last night I roasted a whole chicken in my dutch oven, had a slice of that with a quarter of mashed sweet potato and a few fresh (steamed) green beans with lemon and pepper. My nutritional goals are at this time to consume no more than 50 grams of carbs, 600-800 calories, 20 grams of sugar and at least 50 grams of protein. I have steadily lost 2-5 pounds a week since surgery, I have never been constipated, thrown up or lethargic. This works for me, it may not work for anyone else but my surgeon, my PCP and my NUT are happy with my plan.
