I just had lapband surgery yesterday
supraguy17 replied to supraguy17's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was wondering what you ate for the first couple of days so far I have had 8 oz portions of protein shakes, Popsicles because my throat is very sore too, 8 oz of tomato soup and just a couple oz of fat free yogurt. And as much water as possible -
Hello all. I am scheduled for my banding on Nov 20th with Dr. Quilici in Burbank, CA. I just started on my liquid diet yesterday after my McDonalds Breakfast. I figure McDonalds helped get me into this jam, it was only fitting that they send me off. I haven't had my nutrition appt at my surgeons office yet (Friday) or gotten the official 2-week diet info in the mail. Based on reading this board about what other's 2-week diets consist of, I have a feeling I am in for a rude awakening about what I can and can not eat. For the past 24 hours I have been having low-fat yogurt, low-fat Soup (with stuff in it), crystal light, and soda (I am not ready to give up Diet Coke until the last second). Anyway just checking in. Look forward to keeping track with this board.

Curious: An example of a days worth of food-after being banded?
auntlucy replied to Startingover!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've only had one fill so far, and am not very restructed. But, here is my typical menu: Breakfast: 21 g New whey Protein Bullet mixed with 20 oz crystal lite...I sip on it for a couple of hours typically Lunch: 2 oz protein (usually chicken or fish); 1 cup salad (mixed greens, shredded carrots, a few nuts, etc) with 2 T fat free dressing Dinner: 2 oz protein and 1/2 c cooked veggies and small piece of fruit if still hungry Snack: if I'm hungry during the day, I may have a small piece of fruit or a sf pudding or yogurt -
This is the time when you protein shakes come in handy to get your protein and calories in. Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, lunch meat, boiled eggs, chicken or tuna salad. There are many ways to get in the calories and protein without going over your calories. But definitely you need to step it up

Will I get a fill if I've lost my 2 lbs. a week?
Pammie Sue replied to highland's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hang in there, everyone's loss is different I have noticed. If you make sure you get 15-20grams of Protein per meal, it will help you stay full for 4 hours. This helps me! I also work, so I don't have much time to snack between meals, but I find I don't get hungry between meals. I use the unjury Nutritional shake mix. Also, try the Greek Yogurt (with fruit). Lots of protein, the taste is OK (not as good as Yoplait Cheesecake..LOL) but it will help keep u full. Also, drink as much Water inbetween meals as you can..I also like Diet Peach Snapple. I also like Adkins Nutritonal Drink. 15g of Protein and taste good. Also, I excercise 4-5x a week including lifting weights. This will really also make you feel good and you will see changes quickly. Oh, I had my first fill at my 4 weeks post appointment. Take care, and think how thin you will be by next summer...that will be awesome!!! We have to think long term.... Pam -

Thanx! What brand of greek yogurt do you buy? I love yogurt! -
Try Fage greek yogurt You can google it to find their home page and most health food stores carry it or you might find it at your supermarket.

ok guys i have posted a couple of times on here and i definately read a lot on this forum. I was banded (10cc band) on 6/26/08. didn't get first fill til the end of august and even then she only gave me 1.5 (not a lot couldn't even tell the difference) lost story short had a couple more fills (i started at almost 210 but i'm short 4'11) and i WAS down to almost 192--things were going well. but in mid september i had rotary cuff surgery and pretty much couldn't do a lot due to the amount of pain i was in (plus on demerol) but i did try to keep eating somewhat healthy. 7 days after my rotator cuff surgery i went in and she gave me 3.5 which put me at almost 6cc (i think i had a fill before sugery also) that is when i found out i had GAINED back almost 9 lbs, how can this be possible? it's not like i am starving to death, and yes, i do cheat every once in awile, but i had to go back the next day and she took .5 cc out. i still have good resrtiction but i pb over something at leaest once a day and on saturday night i threw up SO HARD it hurt. i called my Dr. today and spoke to her assistant and she has me on liquids (clear) for now and told me i should have called THAT day i thew up so hard and she said that's why i am having trouble eating and keep stuff down because my stomach is irritated. i am 5 months out of surgery and i have barely lost 20 lbs just to gain some back. should i get another fill soon? i mean my restriction is good, but do any of you long time bandsters know if you become used to that level of fill or does the band losen up on it's own a little? i read diets of what people are eating, i have a really good whey protein powder i use and i normally have 1 of those per day to keep the calories down.....HELP??? i feel jealous seeing people that have been banded after me and have lost lots of weight ....so if i have decent restriction why am i not losing any weight? plus my hair is thinning out. my diet is usually a cup of lowfat yogurt, 1 cup of coffee, protein shake for lunch with a small (very small) teaspoon of organic peanut butter, then dinner is 3oz chicken breat 6oz some kind of veggie. just to give you an idea. i may have a few couple of snacks here and there (not often cause i am not hungry) i feel silly to have had my dad pay quite a bit of money for this for my birthday and i havent lost anything.......i am very frustrated-- anyone else? could i have ruined my band when i threw up? i still feel restriction. any advice/stories would be great!!!:smile2:

What in the world, happened! ??
Anyajasmom replied to Anyajasmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all of your responses! I tried some yogurt this morning and I have had the same feeling, I'm just hoping that I am sore from yesterdays episode. I guess I am just going to be on liquids for a couple of days until I feel better! I just hope I didn't mess anything up! -
If you blend it anything is probably going to be tolerated. The sugar free ice cream still might have too many calories to be a good choice, I think it's something like 70 calories for 2g of Protein per service. A yogurt smoothie might work well for you. The tuna blend looks fine, keep an eye on the amount of mayo and relish you add since those are just extra calories. Ricotta cheese and cottage cheese are also really good for the pureed stage. There's a recipe floating around for a ricotta bake which is basically a lasagna without noodles that I mostly lived off of during the pureed stage.

Honestly, I didn't see a true reduction in how much I could eat until my third fill. Now I eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food two times a day, with one evening snack of maybe 1/2 cup of yogurt or sugar free pudding or cucumber slices or something healthy... Some days I can eat a little more and some days I can hardly get anything down... On the days that I feel that I need more calories I will sip Water while eating to get more in. The reason I do this is because I find that most days I am not getting enough calories and Protein in. Not sure if anyone else does this but I had reached a point where my weight loss stopped because I work out and wasn't able to get enough calories in. Everyone's experience with the band from what I have read is different. Take advice and fit it to your particular experience. This has definitely been a learning process of what works for me and I can say that I have been very happy with the results. Although I had began to get a little discouraged early on because you see some people talk about all of this extreme weight loss in a short period of time and you begin to wonder what is wrong with you and what you are doing. Just keep in mind that the band assists you with gradual weight loss 1-2lbs per week, 4-8lbs per month and your jouney will be a lot more pleasant... Good luck!!

Halibut, salmon, tuna, endive (because I can cut it up small and my band tolerates it better than lettuce leaves), yogurt, apple slices or mandarin orange slices, almonds or other nuts, coffee with soy milk (morning), melba toast (morning). My go-to Protein is chicken, and I eat so much of it I'm soon to be sprouting feathers. -
Carolb, I am very sorry you are struggling as well. If you can not eat meat or more solid foods and are sticking to simple things that go through your pouch easy, another fill may not address the problem. You have to be able to get meat and other solids down (carefully chewed, eaten slowly, etc.) in order for the pouch to work for you. Otherwise you will remain hungry. Perhaps you can try carefully reintroducing more solid Proteins. If they will not work for you without vomiting, perhaps you may even need a slight unfill to get your pouch realigned with your needs. Sugary carbs like candy may even be kicking your hunger into higher gear. Specially if they move through the pouch easily. Everyone is different. However, for me I had to learn to stay away from processed carbs and only eat fruits, vegetables or low sugar yogurt, etc. In my system, if I eat something like a small piece of cake, I know that for some reason in another hour or so I will be looking for more. Eating any bad carbs triggers impulses and urges for me to seek more and the only way to control it was to avoid those foods. Take it one step at a time. Maybe today you will say, I will not eat any candy today and I will worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes. Perhaps you can replace it with a Protein that your body can handle. Are you getting plenty of Water . . . perhaps increasing water intake will help as well. Sometimes big changes come wrapped up in very small daily decisions.

Hi Nykee! I can sympathize, it's really frustrating sometimes. Your band may indeed have slipped, or it may not. Either way you have to address this issue for reasons other than weight. You don't want to damage your esophagus because that can lead to future problems that are way worse. Since you have esophagitis give Prevacid a shot. It will ease the inflammation and can help settle things down so you heal. And you have to figure out how to get the nutrition you need without upchucking--repeated PBing (which is what you're doing) just makes the problem worse. Stick to Protein drinks and yogurt/other mushies until you are sure this problem is kicked. From what you say it sounds like you'll need further medical attention. An endoscopy will diagnose erosion or a bad slip. Also, I don't believe a hiatal hernia with a band is something that can be ignored. Good luck and I hope it gets straightened out soon!

Thanks so much for all the great ideas! I had never seen baked eggs before. I love my eggs over easy, but w/no toast, potatoes, or rice to soak of the yolk, I didn't see how I'd make them work for me. Baking the eggs on a bed of spinach is a great idea. Also, I had forgotten that I can eat turkey bacon and really any of the b-fast meats that are made out of turkey, chicken, or soy. And, a crab omelette, rocotta, greek yogurt, etc... Mmmmmmmmmm!!! Thanks again!

Okay, I think that I have created my first Protein shake recipe, however, if this is ganked this from someone else and I just haven't seen it, I am sorry, but I think this is an original. And I shall name it Fruity Surprise!!! Here goes: Fruity Surprise 1 scoop of Vanilla Protein 4 oz. skim or 1% milk (you can use 8 oz because at 4 oz it is a little thick) 1 6oz thingy of vanilla yogurt (I used light fat free Yoplait) 2 individual packets of Splenda 1 packet of Crystal Light Fruit Punch (the little ones you put in a bottle of water) Blend and enjoy. I poured mine over ice and it was yummy!! san:thumbup: PS--If you try this recipe and you like it, let me know. If it made you gag....I don't want to know (I am sensitive:crying:)

could you eat and drink normal after bypass revision
kswin79 replied to bikerchick519's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had RNY bypass revision after lapband done in 2013 about 2 weeks ago and I am able to drink water without sipping also and I am on Presoft foods already per my doctor stating in paperwork if I felt ok to move to Presoft go forward so that consist of soups, unsweetened applesauce and Oikos Triple Zero yogurt and I have been fine I have appt today for my two week follow up but I had a very bad allergic reaction and I am on three meds to help me not get a ulcer and prednisone to help with the itchy, red breakout. It’s been only two days since I been on the prednisone but I can tell it’s working already still a little itchy but the rash is fading. I think it’s just us healing but the food part is weird bc I thought it would feel major restrictive like the band was but it’s not been so far hopefully our pouch is fine.. I’ll let you know what the doctor states today about us being able to drink n soups two weeks in a no restriction feeling yet? Thanks for sharing also I really can relate.😊 -
I had my third fill 3 weeks ago. At that time, I told the doc that I thought the weight loss was slow(only 7 lbs. in the last 6 weeks). I did feel some restriction, but not too much .He added .5 to the 6.5 I already had in the 10cc band. Now even after the 3 weeks, I am having one heck of a time eating most of the time. Two spoons of mashed potatoes and I am done.About 3 oz. of yogurt and I feel like I need to PB. It hurts occasionally when my vitamins go down. I have dropped 12 pounds now in 3 weeks, but it sure hasn't been a comfortable three weeks. I don't know what to even attempt to eat, because it hurts so soon after. Then there is other times when I can eat a pack of crackers with no problem, or a bowl of popcorn with no problem. IS THIS NORMAL????? Should I wait till I go back in three weeks. Will it get easier in a week or two. Should I go back to the doc before my next scheduled visit and get some removed. Let me know what you think. This is the first problem I've run into and I will admit it scares me a little.

Question for Those 1 Year+ Out
MichiganChic replied to livvsmum's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm just under 11 months out, and I can eat anything I want. I have to be really careful. For me, that means weighing and measuring food, counting and tracking calories, and following the general rules for gastric sleeve patients. I don't think of it as dieting. I think of it as doing what I need to do for success. I usually have a Protein shake for breakfast, greek yogurt and string cheese for lunch with a few grapes, nuts for an afternoon snack, and meat/vegetable for dinner. Some days I have a snack at bed time, depending on how many calories I've eaten and if I'm hungry. I could easily eat a lot more than I do. I try to keep it close to 900 calories, but lately I'm having a hard time staying below 1100. I, too, am surprised at how few calories and carbs it takes me to lose weight. No wonder i was so fat! -
Need help come to far to GIVE UP!

I am surprised your Nut recommends potatoes in your diet at this stage. Also the amount of food at a meal seems a lot. If I eat 1 egg, I am not able to eat anything else for that meal. I realize every surgeon and Nut have different recommendations. My surgeon encouraged me to stick to Protein shakes 3 times a day when I hit a stall. I have a Protein shake for breakfast every day, 1/2 cup of food (mainly protein with low starch veggies) for lunch, 1/4 cup cottage cheese/yogurt for a snack and another protein shake for evening meal. I add fruit to the AM shake 3 times a week. It takes me about an hour to drink the shake with fruit so I don't do this every day. I have avoided bread, Pasta, rice, Cereal, potatoes and corn since the surgery. I do not plan on adding these back into my diet until I hit my goal weight. -
Yah, no yogurt, cottage cheese, etc until purée phase. I was doing great at first but now I'm struggling a little to get all my Protein and Water in. Not because of the inability to hold it, just cause the idea of another Protein Shake makes me ill. My check in is on Friday so I am praying they let me move up a few days early that day. what was your first pureed meal?
justabill replied to marmello's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ricotta cheese and pizza sauce heated in the microwave. Delicious. I also still enjoy Dannon light & fit greek yogurts. -
I have been cooking up a storm these last few weeks and stocking the freezer up with healthy meals. Both of my crockpots have been getting a workout! I have been getting some great recipes from emilybites.com and skinnytaste.com. Emily bites has a lot of recipes that you use a muffin tin to bake it in. Great for portion control. For breakfast, I either have a Protein shake or Special K protein cereal. I am made mini quiches in the mini muffin tins but I have been eating them for lunch with a cheese stick. Boca burgers are also a great option for lunch...or Greek yogurt. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
