Can't drink the whole thing!!!!
RestlessMonkey replied to saninbham's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have restriction? I think you're lucky that you GET protein; my doc said none for 1 week (they are all so different) Why are you having trouble, because you don't like it, or can't swallow, or something else? -
I am one week out... was sleeved 8/21. I went back to work yesterday. It was a little push but I am not sore at all.... mostly I think it's being tired from not enough food. Literally.... remember by 4 days out you really haven't eaten anything to speak of unless you want to count popsicles and jello. My job is pretty sedate. I own a salon and am a nail tech. So I sit....I even have done two pedis. If your job is more demanding I'd take more time. Every surgery is unique....you might feel great.... you might feel terrible. Prepare for both. That way you will be covered.

Just had surgery...gaining weight???
Jules K replied to mightymorris03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me. It's very discouraging! I lost 10 lbs after surgery and then gained 5 lbs back. I have slowly taken it off and lost 3 lbs more. I checked with my dr. and he said the first 6 wks are for healing. Weight loss starts after the fills. Your job now is to protect your pouch and let your stomach heal. It has been 6 wks since my surgery and I have lost 13 since surgery (35 total counting pre-banding lbs.) I have followed my drs. guidelines and my dietician has reviewed my diet journal and says I'm eating the right things. She suggested bumping up my exercise to 1- 1 1/2 hrs a day. I did increase my exercise. It just is slow going. I'm looking forward to my first fill next week. Hopefully I will see more results a little faster. But truly, my dr. says 2 lbs a week is good and that should be happy with that--which I am--beats what I used to weigh. Good luck and follow your drs. rules. It will come off. Keep your chin up! -
R U In Pain 19Days Post Op?
jennyblue111 replied to pattivalvo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
19 days & still have discomfort. Today's the 1st day I haven't felt the need to take my pain medicine, which has usually been late afternoon. I kinda felt like a sissy, but have read people are just different. Sometimes it's achy above my belly button, sometimes it's time a pulling where my incisions are. It was 2 weeks before either pain would allow me to sleep on my side. Now, in just doing Advil for soreness & try not to do too much. -

hunger pains Great balls of burning...hunger?
Thinner1Day posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost a week out and I get these cramping waves of burning pain when I haven't put anything in the sleeve for an hour or two. Should I be continuously sipping water or something all the time? Anybody else get these? Will it go away? Help -
I've been having to have snacks in the afternoons and before bed depends, but I haven't been choosing too wisely. So, I went to the store today and stocked up on 100 calorie packs, 60 calorie pudding (can easily add protein powder to), as well as yogurt and other things to have on hand. I hope this will help. I have also made a weekly menu to stick with. Lots of grilled things on it. I would love to be able to eat refried beans or soup and feel full but not there yet. I had hoped to get another fill next week but my doctor is on vacation and the next week I'll be on vacation so I have to wait another two weeks!!! I am going to push myself to do my best, even when on vacation. Atleast then I'll be busy at the pool and such and food won't be as accessable. Have you ever heard of having too few calories when excercising and your body not losing? I am wondering if that has been my problem. I jumped back into excercising along with cutting my calories and maybe my body is in shock. What do you think?

My surgery was 2 days ago
penelope replied to Terrib's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Terrib, If this continues or you are still really worried about dehydration; you should consider calling your surgeons office. They maybe be able to prescribe an anti-emetic (anti-nausea) to help. This may require an office visit. Personally, I ended up staying in the hospital for 4 days. I had major problems with anesthesia and the IV pain meds. I was so green and heaving for the first three days there was no way that I would have been able to drink enough. I had continuous IV fluids and pills for the nausea every 2 hours. It is the worst those first few days, but it really will get better. As for when I got home, sipping warm tea helped so much. I really like The Tea from Aveda, it's a comforting tea. Herbal and very soothing with a good flavor. -
2 Weeks Post-Op - Can I Excercise Yet?
Wondercup71 replied to gwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great info. I am 3 weeks post op and would like to start jogging but I get really tired quickly just by walking or even lifting very light items for short periods of time. I will wait until my body tells me its ok. -
As I sit here sipping yet another protein shake in prep for surgery next week it got me thinking. For all you post ops how much are you spending on food now as compared to pre surgery? I understand you're eating much less but how much is that offset by costs if your consuming protein, vitamins, better foods, etc? Please do not reply in dollar amounts but as a monthly percentage of what you spent pre op. Have a great weekend.....

Ok fellow sleevers. I woke up this morning with some pain. I haven't had pain since day 5. I am post op day 11. The NUT told me full liquids again this week but my surgeon said eggs and tuna and mashed potatoes. Yesterday I ate a protein shake in the morning. Then had 5 bites of tilapia, mashed potatoes and mashed squash (all together 5 bites not 5 bites each). Then for dinner I had refried beans and shredded cheese (5 bites). Everything was tolerated well and I just woke up with pain. Do you think it could be that I just over did it with food? Or do you think I could have a leak? No fever or chills, was a bit dizzy this morning but ok now. Maybe I slept in a weird position?Should I call my surgeon?

Dr. Aceves or Dr. Alvarez....advise?

Dr. Aceves or Dr. Alvarez....advise?
Foxbins replied to Ellie4me's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I also chose Dr. Aceves because I would be in a hospital for three nights. Since I would be leaving my surgeon 1200 miles away when I came home, I wanted to know that I was stable post-op and in good enough shape to travel alone. I have heard great things about Dr. Alvarez but I chose Dr. Aceves for the hospital. In hindsight, I don't think I could have had a better experience anywhere else. No nausea or vomiting and very little pain. -
I am one week post op today and I was sitting here reading post and my foot started cramping. It moved up my shin and my calf, then my other foot. I have been in HORRIBLE pain for the last hour.. its starting to calm down now but what can I do to make it go away and prevent them in the future? I am pretty sure I am hydrated, I was able to get in 64 ounces so far and still drinking. Been on Clear liquids all week and Im sure the rest of my nutritional requirements are out the window. Cant eat a banana, what do yall suggest?!?! Any one else have this problem? I never get these and never want to get them again! Kim

3 months out; what are you eating?
pjackson0523 replied to pjackson0523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just eating normal, but, I try to do healthy. This is an example of what I had yesterday. Breakfast-oatmeal Lunch-Smart Ones chicken Enchilada Dinner- 2 (very small) baby back ribs and 1/4 cup of potato salad, 1/4 cup broccoli/carrots. Snack-100 calorie packet of walnuts and almonds Average about 700-800 cals a day. But, I've been on a stall for 3 weeks now. Ugh, frustrating -
I am about 16 days out and must say that until 4 days ago, I was feeling extra extra week, with brain fog. I was taking in Protein and losing weight at a good clip but the fatigue and cramps in my calf muscle. Today I am feeling better and the changes I made in the my routin are as following: 1) I read an article on Iron and fatigue and the association with Vitamin C so I have attached that article with the post if you wish to read. I am have started taking chewable iron supplements. 2) I switched from drinking broth and sodium laden Soups from the grocery isle to making my own indian style lentils (toor daal OR moong daal many varities in Indian Grocery stores--will post my recipe soon). I blend it with Water and a hard boiled egg (or just chew the hard boiled egg pieces really well) and 1 cup of greek yogurt (19g of protein). So the cup of lentil Soup blended with egg and i cup of greek yogurt is plenty of protein for the meal. 3) I make DARN sure that I take at least 80 ounces of water. 4) Add one banana to the two protein smoothies I have in a day (so two bananas and two whey protein scoops in the whole day) 5) My multivitamins made me nauseous so I switched to my children's flintstones and they seem to not make me nauseous although I do need to chew more pills So far my weight loss is still on track and the fatigue is down by 50% or more. I am sharing this experience with everybody and hope this helps. Just wanted to share. Anemia Following Weight Loss Surgery (2) (1).pdf

6 Days Out Feeling Great!
BOB052212 replied to BOB052212's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The nutritionist at my surgeons office said a week clear and a 2 weeks full, my surgeon on the other hand when reiterated what my nutritionist said stated try to follow it, but you can try some soft things a little earlier, so I did, just be careful, and eat very very slowly, also I chew until its basically liquified. Just let your body be the judge if it hurts stop eating it, as far as tuna, I due the bumble bee prime fillet (gold can) target has the best price, and I only use honey mustard, if u gotta have mayo use the hellmans with olive oil very lowfat and half the calories, honey mustard sound gross but its great, be sure to use french's honey mustard, not the salad dressing honey mustard, that stuff is a zillion calories, my personal favorite, is shoprite brand honey mustard, if there is shoprite grocery chain in your area get that brand, there both only 10 calories a serving. This is what has worked for me, BY ALL MEANS, follow what your team instructed you to do, If you find yourself skipping ahead dont go overboard, low fat, high protein is still what we should be reaching for no matter what! -

4 Days Out And Emotional
Katnroyal replied to skoehn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first week after my surgery my hormones were all over the place! I would cry if I couldn't get my whole cup of water down in the allotted time! Just remember its worth it, and surround yourself with supportive people! The emotions will go away eventually! -
I started back with yoga and swimming on day 12. Loved being back and had no issues. I lift heavy free weights so we agreed to wait six weeks. Doctor said I could lift light now if I wanted.

Incision Question: When to stop applying dressings
Syaniya replied to AK_Bookworm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I showered in the hospital the day after surgery. I didnt have stitches outsdie, just glue wirh strips covering them. I was just not allowed to submerge in water for 6 weeks, no baths or pools. Best bet, is to email or call your doctor as every surgeon is different. Congrats!!!!I Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Incision Question: When to stop applying dressings
MBird replied to AK_Bookworm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had glue, was told to keep them dry for a week and now I can soon let water run down them. They're healing fast, one is nearly gone already. I would call your doctor and ask.
