    hernia development

I had the same thing. I was constantly throwing up due to the hernia. My surgeon just corrected the hernia and made the diaphragm hole smaller without a bypass revision. . My problem now is that I’m struggling with that stuck feeling and feeling a bit nauseous. My surgery was just 2 weeks ago, so still figuring it all out

    Dumping

Almost 3 months post gastric bypass and no dumping as of yet. I don't plan on it either!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. When did you experience dumping for the first time? Cause I’m over a month post op (bypass) and haven’t had it yet..

    Starting my process for vsg

My insurance does cover revisions. I had surgery for severe endometriosis and it wasn’t all removed. I also had complications during that surgery and he doesn’t know if I have scar tissue and he wants my belly fat to shrink some first. So basically he said he will have to look inside first and that the sleeve would be the safest option right now.

    Starting my process for vsg

I haven't been to a nutrition class but I did do one on ones with a dietician, just discussed current diet, what diet I will need pre op / post op...etc. Any reason the surgeon isn't doing a bypass to start with? Will your insurance cover the original surgery plus a revision?
  6. I felt the same way. But my thought was this... if I stay the way I am obese and metabolically not able to lose well I know where the leads me. Have bypass and give myself a fighting chance. What’s more important saving your life or staying the same eating what you want and doing what you have always done? I’m two weeks post opt and it’s a huge change but I’m off insulin.

    Hypoglycemia

It sounds like (non expert, non doctor here) that it may be reactive hypoglycemia, which is fairly common in the bypass world, as it is a result of rapid stomach emptying due to the lack of pyloric valve in that procedure, causes an insulin spike followed by low blood sugar triggering hunger. With the sleeve, we can also experience somewhat rapid emptying due to our small stomach size. DIfferent foods affect this, too - the so-called "slider" foods that slide on through because they don't trigger the pyloric valve to close, typically highly processed carbohydrates. If this is what is going on, try sticking to meats and high fiber vegetables that tend to stay in the stomach longer and see if that helps. If it is not RH, then an endrocinologist may be in order to see what is going on with this imbalance. Whether or not your sleeve was botched, you should check with a bariatric surgeon to evaluate this - if you go to your original surgeon, a second opinion from another may be in order to verify whether or not it was "botched" (would the original doc really admit that he goofed?) good luck in working this out,
  9. I am so excited, nervous, and a little scared all in one. I finally have insurance that cover bariatric surgery and I didn’t waste no time applying. I had my first consultation June12 and I only have a 90 day process. I have to see a nutritionist 3 times and the surgeon visit count as one so I only I have to do 2 classes and psych evaluation plus an ekg. I’m so excited I was expecting 6months or longer. The surgeon will do the Sleeve and later down the road he’ll do a bypass. What is the nutrition class like?
  10. This is great, but having difficulty changing where it says under my moniker & next to my profile picture, "Pre Op" to ---> "Post Op".  I'm new, but had my Gastric Bypass procedure 06 February 2018. Halp! lol  Also, how do I post Before & current "After/ Work In Progress" photos?  Do I post it/ them in this status box? Any assistance appreciated. Thanks a bunch in advance. Toodles! :)

    Help! Thighs are dying!

Speak for yourself only, please. I had bypass as well and I'm fine eating carbohydrates and so are many other bypass patients.

    Help! Thighs are dying!

Except here's the thing. You had sleeve. We had gastric bypass. We can't add in those carbs needed for stuff like HIIT without getting dumping. My friend who had the sleeve can eat cake and feel fine. I would be dead on my butt for four hours sweating and puking. I can't even tolerate one bite of wheat bread. Bypass patients are forcibly on a ketogenic diet since we can't have carbs or fat. My ketone levels are through the roof simply because I can only eat keto-friendly things. I am almost 8 months out and still not supposed to really have peas and that sort of thing because of the starch. We're supposed to add in those things veryyyy slowly. My trainer wants me at 100g of protein a day and 100g of carbs. My dietitian says I shouldn't be anywhere near 100g of carbs yet - that's usually between 12-18 months. She agrees with the protein, but acknowledges it will be difficult. We agreed on 90g of protein a day. I still can't physically get in more than 50g of carbs a day without being full and/or sick. So, doing weights and squats and everything OP is talking about - she isn't nutritionally ready for. It is essentially just eating the muscle you are trying to gain because of such a severe deficit. There's nothing wrong with being safe and waiting a few more months to incorporate the gym into the routine.

To Tell or NOT to Tell

I tell people. I mean, when you lose weight fast, they are either going to assume you had surgery or cancer. I've already felt with 2 cancer scares, and it's much easier to explain being sleeved and bypassed then having to explain my medical history.

    protein shake

Yeah usually, now I am a bypass sister, so maybe my interpretation is skewed. You still have a patent stomach, yes only a banana sleeve but that stomach remenent works. Liquid goes down your esophagus, hits your cardiac sphincter, the valve at the top of your stomach, valve says" Well Hello there , come right on in here!" your banana is no longer too tender, it gentally stretches enough to accept the 8 ounces and you're okay. You are Not Miserable, Not in Pain, You Are A Lucky Ducky! Will this hurt you? Not if it hasn't ALREADY. I do have. a Bari-pal on here, another RNY, her Texas surgeon seems to have given her a Cast- Iron pouch, I'm in Ohio, either my surgeon could not do this or I just didn't heal with strength and rapidity like she did. Oh I do honor and celebrate her for it! Meanwhile I sip down my 2 ounces, 3 on a rare day, and remember we all do not heal the same, thats why we are called INDIVIDUALS. Either I will finally grow up to be like her, she is about 7 months ahead of me or I won't, but I still shall be Frustr8, if I am Good Enough for GOD, why should I argue? Hope this helps or at least makes you feel Better about YOU!❤

    Psych Eval

So, today was the day for my psych eval. Not sure to know what to think about it. I went in and the psychologist was very nice. Gave me a piece of paper and asked that I write my name and dob on it and Dr. to do my surgery. He then had me answer a list of questions he had wrote down such as: where did I here about the bypass surgery, why did I want bypass surgery, have I attended a seminar yet, have I seen the dietitian and if so how many times, what family support do I have, what are the complications of bypass surgery, and what type of diet/exercise changes do I plan to make. Last but not least, what will be the hardest change I will have to make after having the bypass surgery. Then he proceeded to have me fill out the standardized psychology test MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Test) 300+ true/false questions I had to answer. Once I finished he told me thank you so much, I will send the results to Dr. by beginning of the week and took my fee. Kinda perplexed feeling perplexed right now! I have another dietitian appoint the 27th and not sure what will happen next. I also called my insurance company to see if the office has submitted a request for approval and they had not so far. I sure would like to get confirmation on something! Waiting is hard! Unknown if you are covered is even harder. Not knowing if you will be able to even get the revision surgery is the hardest!😟

    RNY or Sleeve

if you have acid reflux, I would not even consider the sleeve. I've seen a lot of people on internet forums revising from sleeve to RNY because the sleeve made their reflux worse. I had RNY for that very reason. It doesn't ALWAYS make it worse, but I wasn't willing to take that risk.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I'm four months out (gastric bypass on Feb 13) and I, too, feel a difference at the 4-month point. I'm starting to crave the foods I used to really like and I'm frustrated that emotional eating might start. I find I can eat more than before and it's not good. I don't feel sick with chest discomfort anymore when I eat, which IS good, but I had a chocolate chip cookie yesterday and ate it all with no consequences in the gut department. NOT good. I definitely feel as if the honeymoon phase has ended. I am also frustrated because I severely injured my tailbone on Monday and am in a ton of pain...can't sit, can't stand, can't walk....not getting my steps in. Also, this morning I woke up and noticed I'm just starting to lose hair and my hair has always been thin--can't afford to lose any! I should NOT be complaining so much as my 50-pound loss is truly fantastic, but I am a bit nervous at the 4-month point I am praying there is no regression. I am so proud of my Feb friends hearing about your successes, but also hearing about your challenges. I am so encouraged to hear that my struggles are not alien and that others are working through the same issues I am. Not that I want any of you to have struggles, but it feels good that I'm not alone!

    2008 bandsters

Aug 12, 2008 banded. Lost 95 lbs initially but over the last few years and I gained back 17. Now at 222 as of today. Went to see a new surgeon as the original one no longer takes my insurance and is over an hour and a half away now. Had to get a complete unfill because of really bad GERD and vomiting and most things getting stuck. Went in to see about revision to rny but would have to go through 6 months of supervised diet and all the other hoops for my insurance to cover the revision. Well, so far so good, drank a protein shake and will have some soup soon. No problems yet. I'm hoping that I just needed the unfill and let my stomach calm down and find the sweet spot again. Maybe I can get back on track with the band, slowly. Keep your toes crossed for me. I Really do not want to have another surgery if I can help it......I would love to keep in touch with you 2008 Bandsters!!! [emoji171] Sent from my XT1565 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2019 Surgeries!

No but I did crave salty things for quite a while after my bypass. Now I am having trouble getting in all the fluids that I should. I have taken to watermelon and popcycles to fill the water gap. How are you on fluids?
  23. I loved my MGB, I had no issues for 11 months and lost 95% of my excess weight. I started having left sided abdo pain, had blood work and ultrasounds that were fine. I began having severe pain with nausea and vomiting 10 times a day for 3 weeks and ended up in hospital. Despite scope and CT I didn't get a diagnosis until 4 months and 4 re admissions to the hospital later. The area I live has very few bariatric surgery resources. I am now thankfully getting a revision to Roux n Y which should eliminate the problem, I was trialed on medication to help with the bile reflux and it ultimately failed. My surgery is in 10 days I am so relieved. I am still glad I did surgery despite my complications. You just never expect to be the low percentage of people with this complication. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Lap Band revision to RNY?

Elcee, thank you for your reply. How much did you lose on the band in the first place? How long were you banded? How was the recovery from band to bypass in one surgery?
  25. I went band to bypass in one op in Jan. I have lost all my excess weight and am sitting around goal. My diet is much healthier than with the band. It is lovely to be able to go out to eat and not spend the evening in the bathroom throwing up.
