Why am I so darn hungry all the time?:help: I am 3 weeks post op and I am starving! I have progressed throuugh the liquid stages just fine an am eating normal food- just not as much, but it seems like I am hungry every hour or two. SO I eat a bannana, then a yogurt.. but I am still starving! I am wondering why this is and if I will ever not feel hungry. Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

I’ve experienced a few times where I need to rush to the bathroom after eating. It was very obvious last night it was due to eating a small amount of nonfat (but w/sugar) frozen yogurt. I guess I thought dumping syndrome was super painful? My experience is not painful but it does involve the need to immediately go to the bathroom. Is that one type of dumping syndrome?

I had some cottage cheese, that was good. I am on thick liquids now, so still it is protein shakes, yogurt, soup, the usual. Today i was having a fit for food (started my period) so I made myself a frozen coffee drink: One packet of diet swiss miss cocoa One packet of cappachino coolers one scoop of protein powder one cup of skim milk This is 245 calories, but also 27 grams of protein, it was YUMMY. I cant wait to eat eggs...I need to get a life, right?

I love that you're on your feet all day. That can only help/speed up your weight loss. I agree that 600-700 is not enough calories for you a) because you're a guy, and because you put out so much energy during the day. With the Protein shakes as Snacks I would think you would be taking in more calories. I would try to find a shake that has twice the calories in, perhaps, the same volume of liquid or a little more if you can't drink it all. I imagine, since you're working, your shakes are pre-packaged. I know there are some larger/higher calorie shakes out there....or maybe you should try to get down 1.5 or two shakes for snacks. When I have time to use the powdered stuff I use Body Fortress Super Advanced whey Protein Drink. Two scoops of that and 8oz nonfat mile or milk sub will give you almost 600 good/lean protein calories = added energy/strength as well as healthy weight loss. As you are on your feet all day - you are surely burning those snacks and could use more to sustain you. As I'm single and don't cook/create meals (hence, creature of habit) lol, I do the repeat thing also. As such, I've been googling stage 2 & stage 3 bariatric meal ideas and have found some interesting stuff. I still don't know if I'm going to "prepare" anything, but there are ideas out there. You can even add "low or no cooking" meal ideas which may allow you to do a weeks worth of prep on your days off. Try adding 1/4c low fat cottage cheese and/or greek yogurt to your meals also as they are lean/good protein sources. -
Dr just emailed and ok for cottage cheese yogurt etc. I was wondering about watermelon? How'd you guys do on this Ana how far out

Pork is very chewy, I dont like it much anyway. Occasionally we will have roast pork done in the Weber, but not often, but pork chops and stuff, ugh, no way. I can only imagine the pain they'd cause. I also dont tolerate reheated meat well unless its very moist like in a casserole. But a piece of bbqed steak reheated in the microwave, forget it. But again, I would have turned my nose up at that preband anyway. I dont see why your doc would be baffled - what you're saying is not at all uncommon, the foods you find hard are totally individual and not restricted to red meat and bread at all. I get stuck on yogurt!

I'm thinking cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, etc.

pre-op diet so far 4 days
myezzence replied to myezzence's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Carmen, Start getting all of your supplies. I purchased all NO SUGAR ADDED foods per my doctor, or fat free. They make no sugar added yogurt (different flavors), fudgesicles -no sugar added, Protein shakes, I drink EAS( semi frozen) and Breakfast essentials. Stock up on crystal lite and reduced sodium Soups. Its is different, and challenging because I'm addicted to carbs. So good luck, on your pre ops fast. Guess what I am big boned too.,,150lbs is my goal approved 223 lbs pre-ops fast 211 (5days out) surgery - 5 days left STAY TUNE FOR MY UPDATE AFTER SURGERY Sheri -
Surgery on the 9th and I feel hungry is that normal?? Help
michelelouise posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi , I feel like I'm doing it all wrong. Mine was done at a surgery center, sent home in a couple hours and was told i can do the funnel diet for the first two weeks. So Ive had a little scrambled eggs greek yogurt broth. Not quite sure how much of those things I'm able to have (serving size) I'm very confused.. -
For lack of better terms, I have a constant growl in my stomach with gas pressure and tiny quakes throughout. I fart and burp all of the time! The pressure in my lower stomach isn't painful, just annoying. I am 6 days post op and hope it gets better! Also, I thought I might be lactose intollerant, but the only thing that really upsets me is the protein shakes. I drink one and am instantly in the bathroom. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cream soups, skim milk, and pudding all go down ok. Not sure what's up with the protein supplements.

Suggestions for first day/week of solid foods?
Kami63 replied to ninanew's topic in Food and Nutrition
Today was my forst day as well. I had Greek yogurt for breakfast, no sugar added applesauce for mid morning snack, cheese and thin lunch meat for lunch and beans with cheese with a small amount of avocado for dinner. All measured of course to not go over my surgeon's limit for oz. I had to supplement with a 30g protein shake to hit my protein. Tomorrow I will try a scrambled egg just go with things you like. I spent an hour in the grocery store deciding what to get based on how soft, protein and other nutrition content. I got enough for three weeks I think lol -
Day 7 of Pre-Op Liquids - I need a few suggestions.
Laughkc11 replied to BarefootDrummer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been drinking the premier protein drinks and adding coffee to them. Of course, that won't help you if you dislike coffee. For me it's amazing. I think we may have a different pre-op diets because I'm only on protein drinks and clear liquids - no yogurts, etc. I just bought chicken broth from Costco and add seasoning to it, and it's a really nice change from eating all the sweet things like jello and Popsicles. The coffee really cuts the sweetness of the protein drinks too. -
I have 3 beautiful teenage daughters and a handsome husband. I am a little nervous about my scheduled surgery on August 9, 2013 for the RNY. I began this journey in January 2013. My first weigh in was 285 lbs. I actually got approved faster than I thought. I thought it was at least a 12 month process. On May, 9, 2013 I had my gall bladder surgery. Really thought after that it would still be pushed back. BCBS Texas moved fast on this. My last weigh in was June 19, 2013 and I weigh in at 260 don't want to know my current weight until I go for pre op. I have a concern for the liquid diet. What are some of the things that I can drink for that. I know I have to get the Protein. I can't do Greek yogurt I tried it, it was nasty did not like the texture of in while eating. Any suggestions

I am to be sleeved on march 15 th. My Dr (Dr. Nick) requires the pre op diet 2 weeks prior. I want to try to do it 4 weeks prior just to help with discipline. My biggest concern is the post op diet. I have been reading others talk about how hard it is on the liquid diet. Most of you guys talk about the clear broths or soup but you also mention things like jello, yogurt, pudding and even shakes. Dr. Nick says the clear liquid diet is for the first 21 days, but the difference is he said if it does not flow through a strainer it's not allowed. This will mean that jello, yogurt, pudding and shakes are not allowed. I wont even be able to have creamed soup. How will I live on just liquid, no substance, and not getting to chew anything for over half a month? Won't I feel like I'm starving and have no energy due to lack of nutrition? After 21 days I get to start mushy foods like jello, pudding, shakes, and creamed soups. This stage will also last 20 something days. Then I get to start add some solid foods. I will be 40 some odd days before I get to chew again. Has anyone found this to be difficult. What do you do to overcome it? I would say that I am a food addict and soup has never been something I would choose to eat on purpose, now I will be faced with the fact that I have to have soup (broth) for every meal. I think I'm am going to really hate soup after this. I am determined though so trying my best to overcome this fear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

11 Days Post-Op - What I'm Doing/feeling
dlinnh posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All: I thought I'd share some things at 11 days post-op: Since day of surgery - lost 9lbs Very hard for me to get enough protein in at this point still. I had a really hard time with liquid pre-op shakes and now shakes in general make me gag. I'm able to eat creamed soups and some yogurt and pudding at this point. Although I started this phase too early and it hurt to eat, but I started it anyway because I felt so weak at times I return to work tomorrow (this will be good and bad) First visit with NUT on Wed - can't wait to hear what she has to say Trying to understand the difference between head hunger and real hunger. Most of the time it is head hunger. It doesn't help that I had my surgery at this time of year! I am able to take two of the four vitamins I'm supposed to every day. Two is better than none. Steri strips are still covering my healing incisions (I'm supposed to let them fall off naturally) but I want to remove them and scratch that area so bad. I bought two new pairs of work pants yesterday. The size 18 pants I was wearing pre-op are really big (Yea). I actually shopped in the "normal" section of TJMaxx Still not feeling myself and I wonder if I ever will again. I wonder a lot of things actually - like how will all of this work out. I have three holiday parties coming up in two weeks and I'm a little bit stressed about them as most people do not know I had this done. Hoping I will get back to "loving" my am coffee again - this is a real bummer for me as my coffee making was an art form in and of itself and I miss not wanting it anymore. Blood pressure is already down! Thanks for reading -
18 Days Post Op And I Just Want A Salad Haha
TracyZ replied to girlnamedNikki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me 2 1/2 monts until I could handle salad-- it hurt my belly earlier than that-- I was on a lot of yogurt, soups, tuna, eggs at 18 days out.. They told me 700- 800 calories ... which some days I am over some under.. I have re-introduced shakes because I don't feel I am getting enough protein.. LOVE bean or pea soup though! -
There is an extra spoonful or two of yogurt or tiny way's to still even stay with for a pick me up if your feeling weakened or stressed physically, add what's there your comfortable with too or more than spoonful at the moments necessity is there for it maybe, go with the flow, that is if I make sense for this topic and to you.

Yes. I am ashamed. I ate a cup of nonfat yogurt with 1/8 cup of brown sugar and cocoa. Boy was it good but it wasn’t worth it. I felt much better physically the rest of the day after that, but I got on the scale tonight and I weigh 5 pounds more than I did this morning. So now I have lost a net 7 pounds instead of 12 in 6 days. I’m not going to kick myself over it. For now I guess I’ve got to continue the keto journey even if i do not feel well most of the time. Because I’ve passed out once and almost again yesterday, I am going to call the general doctor tomorrow to schedule an appointment before surgery. Because I don’t think things are right with my body. The bariatric clinic says it is not the diet but I am not convinced of that. It may be that some people just cannot do well on a plan that has only 10 grams of carbs per day and 700 calories. I mean, I am 65 years old.

2 Days Post Op And Starving!
gottobeme replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like I'm starving too! I am having Protein shakes but my post op instructions say no more than 30-40 g of protein from them but I'm supposed to get 95-100 a day! I have added some to greek yogurt also to up the protein level. Today I tried some of the cream from some cream of chicken soup. I'm afraid to eat too much at once even though it is liquid because the last thing I want is for it to come up! I'm glad we were banded the same day and are having the same issues! Maybe one of us will figure it out and can pass it along! -
2 weeks post op and no appetite
Chicky abby posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, Ok- so I am not sure if this is still the 'honeymoon phase' I've read about, or the band, or just psychosomatic, but I have no appetite. Keep in mind I am a food addict and could finish two plates of food and keep going normally; whether I was hungry or not. I have been cooking for the family and still sticking to my pureed stage (yogurt, pudding soup) until I see the nutritionist tomorrow and get the ok for the mushie stage. I feel like I have gone from one extreme to the other, it's driving DH crazy and now he is on food patrol with me constantly trying to get me to eat something. On top of it all, I wrote in a previous post, I lost my 'taste' for coffee. Believe me, I am not complaining about these thinngs; just never expected it I guess. Not having an appetite is great; I have 175 pounds to lose but just wondering if this is normal and how long will it last. I failed on every diet known to man because I have no willpower or self control and always felt ravenous. I think the psychological part, knowing I have this device inside that if I overeat will NOT produce a pleasant outcome (PB, Vomit) I think that in itself was the trigger I needed to stop and think before I take a next bite. I just find it so bizarre how I am struggling to get through a 6oz yogurt, lol. How are all the new banders doing with appetite? -

I love the healthy choice frozen gree yogurt! ! Having been nauseous a lot idk why. Going to stay working out next week! ! Anyone else lose a few days then gain, it freaks me out? !? -
Coming Up On Yogurt Added To Menu - But I Hate It

Can you mix the yogurt with something? I mix it with my Protein shakes and it makes them taste better! I use Fage Greek. Good luck! -
5 Weeks out and just threw up my eggs. :-(
TheGamer replied to BeccaDawn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It comes and goes, honestly. My stomach is definitely more sensitive than it was before surgery, where I ATE ALL THE THINGS! Now, my eating habits are pretty pedestrian. I keep to a diet that's based on deli meat, dairy like cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese, greens and the occasional bit of fruit. I'll deviate from that occasionally, but really my diet's pretty plain these days. Since it's just me, with nobody to eat my leftovers, I don't really care to cook because it'd go to waste by the time I could get around to eating it. I eat what agrees with me and don't really worry about it. It's kind of a nice change from inhaling everything in sight. -
2 cc in band and too tight?
k-statearmywife posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been banded for 6 months, had 4 fills for a total of 2ccs. Since my 4th fill (over 4 weeks) ago I haven't been able to eat ANYTHING without it getting stuck...we're talking applesauce, yogurt, pudding, EVEN DRINKS!. It's so frustrating and I have given it time to settle itself in...it's been over 4 weeks now. Every time I eat something mushy have to to go the bathroom and spit out the slime (gross) and most of the time PB. I get full very fast but get hungry within 2-3 hours afterwards.... My band has NOT slipped by the way. Anyone else felt too tight with a small amount of saline?
