Banded May 13? Please share progress....
jllybean1982 replied to lace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Lace! I was banded May 13 also. I was sore getting up and down for the first couple of days too. I had to stay one night in the hospital. I work as a nurse and do alot of lifting. My surgeon told me not to go back to work for ten days, but since my post op appt isn't until May 28, I can't start work until May 29. I have lost eleven and a half pounds so far. I'm so excited about that! I started on a full liquid diet today. For breakfast I ate a yogurt and had a protein shake about two hours later. I was supposed to start the protein shake an hour after breakfast, but I still felt really full. I had alot of trouble with pains in my chest and belly from the gas...no shoulder pain either. Good luck with everything guys! -
It's Passover right now, so no bread, cracker or Pasta items for me. This year it actually isn't that traumatic since I've cut those items way down since being banded on 2/17. Morning: Starbucks Tall Skinny Cinnamon Dulce Latte (only like 90 cals/14 carbs/9 protein) Breakfast: 1/2 cup of egg salad w/ dill, onions and light mayo. 1/2 cup pineapple Lunch: 3oz grilled chicken with light ranch wrapped in boston lettuce leafs. 1/2 cup cucumber salad Snack: Fage 0% Greek Yogurt - Cherry Pomegranate Pre-Workout: GNC Lean shake - Vanilla Dinner: 3 meatballs, 1/4 cup pasta sauce, 1/4 cup 1% cottage cheese on top and melted. 1 cup of matzo ball soup.

Day 7 Post-OP, eating question..
RedheadGirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I switched from clear fluids to more "full" liquids yesterday and my food intake yesterday was: 1/4-1/2 cup of yogurt 1 strained campells Soup at hand ( I had it at two seperate times, I think about a cups worth) 1/2 cup of beef broth 1 instant packet of cream of wheat Is this normal? I was expecting to not get that much food in? Today I just blended some baked potato soup and added some ff milk to it and I had about 3/4 of a cup. I feel "full" or satisfied right now but again just surprised I'm getting that down. How much are you guys intaking or did you intake just 7 days post op? -
Confused With Post Op Diet
StevieSmithtown replied to urbandecayno5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two days after surgery the hospital started me on puréed foods. I was told to stay on puréed diet until my first post op appointment mid-May. I couldn't get anything down the first few days but now i eat lentil and / or black bean soups everyday, yogurt, cream of wheat and protein shakes all day. I take in over 100 g of protein each day but I am concerned that I'm doing too much too soon. -
I've been having 1-2 oz grilled salmon every few days and it is delic. Very small bites and chew it up to mush. Awesome. Also sounds Grose but sometimes I mix in blueberry Greek yogurt with the salmon and it is so good!!!!! The salmon alone is very high in protein but add the greek yogurt in and bam! A good 20-25 gr protein. Baby bel cheese is delic too.

Everyone on this site can relate! It's the hardest part of the process. My doctor allowed pureed soups, low fat yogurt, sugar free ice pops, fruit smoothies and sugar free jello. Good luck!

How did the transition to maintenance look for you?
maintenanceman replied to Lisa XO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight loss progressively slowed down each month post-op. Over time, I needed more calories to be satiated. Finally, at 9 months post-op, the weight loss stopped right at my Ideal Body Weight. I'm currently 14 mo post-op, and I'm still experimenting with how much and what to eat to maintain. I currently eat about 1800-2000 calories a day. I don't follow a specific diet now, but I try to stay focused on protein, eating clean, limited (and healthy) snacking. My biggest challenge is grazing. My restriction makes it hard to eat actual meals, so I find myself eating "pieces" of food throughout the day... some cheese here, an apple there, a piece of ham, some greek yogurt, a protein bar, etc. It's working ok for now, but it's something I'm monitoring. Initially, I was tracking everything I ate, but I don't do that now. I keep a running tab in my head, and I'm trying to get to the point that I can regulate intuitively. I weigh myself every morning. I've regained about a pound from my lowest weight. -
Am I the only one that is driven nuts by the contraindications in what we are suppose to do. How are sugar free drinks any different from sugar free jello, pudding, popsicles, yogurt ect. Artifical sweetners are artificial sweetners, how does it matter in which form they come in. I do not drink them all day long and I try and keep my water up. I drink a galon of liquids a day. I have one packet a day and it is only for 20 0z but I fill my nalgreen bottle all the way. Just my tirade for the day.

Hi folks, I just recived a response from TLBC and they have confirmed that the post op diet does include Jello (sugar free).:clap2: they did re-state the importance of the yogurt and cottage cheese the the function of the bactia culture. these are the most important. i think i'll save the Jello for a time when i really need a different taste.:hungry: day 4 of pre-op - down 8 lbs. survived relatives cooking supper (oh the smells) - diddn't seem to have any pangs or overwhelming desires. yippee.

I'd take a break and test it out again if I were you. I'm not sure but I think if you were lactose intolerant post-surgery, it would show up right away not 25 days later. I can't drink milk or have unfermented milk products since surgery. I had a problem with the first glass of skim milk and the first serving of cottage cheese I had. If it is indeed lactose-intolerance, you may be able to tolerate yogurt and hard cheeses no problem - I can. At the beginning, I used unjury Protein powder, which is Whey Isolate. I can now use Gold Standard Whey Protein, which is a blend. Lynda

Cottage cheese question
Jb1176 replied to punklandia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All diet guidelines are different. I can't have dairy products until the six month mark. For me that means no yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, and most cheeses except low fat cheese sticks and then only one a day. I really miss yogurt with a little organic honey and cottage cheese. I am three months out from surgery. -
Psychological Evaluation why all the questions
YngGram replied to Detgolfer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not only did I find the questions strange, the Dr. I saw was the dad of my daughters classmate. The thought of him reading my answers made me crazy for a minute. I didn't realize it was him when the appt. was made. Good thing I took the test before talking to him, I wouldn't have been able to do it. I am over 2 years out and I can tell you that it is easier to understand the need for the eval. It is more than having an implant, it really is a part of you that you must work with daily. In the beginning it owns you, every thought you have everyday. You must learn how it works for you (sometimes against you), early stages it even controls where you go and who you see. At a point it becomes a part of you that is just there like your leg. As long as things are as they should be, you don't really think about it;; your life with it becomes natural. Then one day you are forgetful or bold and do something you shouldn't and it lets you know who rules. The ups and downs with the band can work on your mind. Many loose easily in the beginning; slow down and become depressed. Some never get a fill and loose, some need many fills and never feel what they thinik "restriction" would be. I am at 5.5cc and really didn't feel it was any different than 2 cc. My last fill was 2 weeks ago, there is a big difference. Today a greek yogurt was dinner at 7 and I was full. lunch had been 4 shrimp, 1tbl. of fried rice and a slice of tomato, slim fast to start my day. I have never had a problem with being hungry since the band. I usually don't eat enough now to loose . Then there are the "bad" times. Adjustments can be to tight, stuck can scare you real bad. The eval helps them, along with your talks with the staff to know if you are ready for the journey. Good luck. -
Finicky eater ... am I missing anything?
jingleboob replied to al0vely's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're good. Don't go crazy. I still have cans of soup from post op and boxes of sugarfree Jello and pudding I never used. The first few days it was a struggle to get 2 Protein shakes and a bottle of Water in during the day. My doc allowed full liquids for 2 weeks after which included yogurts and pudding and jello, and the day after surgery I ate a total of 1/2 of a pudding cup and couldn't bear any more. If you have to crush pills then mix them in the smallest amount of applesauce you can because you have to eat it all. I got pretty good at mixing my pills into about 1 tablespoon of applesauce... it's so nasty but the less the better. During the liquids phase 1 can of cream of potato soup literally would last me 2 days. And if you've run out of anything you can go to the store... an outing will do you good. But you'll be eating a lot less than you think during that first week. It was about 5 or 6 days before I could really drink, now I can drink all I want with no issue. You're plenty prepared. Best of luck with your surgery!!! -

Transitioning to soft foods
krisss replied to kitty0422's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 16 days post off and on soft foods now. Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt have been working well. I tried some eggs with feta cheese and refried beans and I feel like those kind of hurt digesting in my stomach, although I'm back at work now walking a mile to and from train so maybe the increased activity is causing the uncomfortableness but idk. Anybody else feel painful in the lower belly area when transitioning to soft foods? -
I am 3 /12 weeks post surgery, and started on soft foods this week. So far so good until yesterday evening. I had been taking it pretty easy with food this week - yogurt, cottage cheese with applesauce, chicken salad minced really fine, mashed black beans with mild salsa, and pureed soups. Yesterday at lunch I steamed myself 3 oz of asparagus until soft and cut it into small pieces before I ate it. No problem there. Last night I browned some lean ground beef with diced mushrooms and onions in broth, and mixed in a few warm mashed potatoes at the end to make an applesauce like consistency. Tasted fine going down - but I either ate too much or something in the concoction didn't agree with me. I had bad stomach pain the rest of the night. I did sleep about three hours, but was up again at 1 am with the bad stomach pain for another three hours. My temperature and BP are fine - so I don't think I have a leak. I am fine today, am am going back on liquids for today to make sure I give my sleeve time to recover. Have other people had this kind of pain from eating something innocuous? Anything on my list of what I have been eating I should stay away from?

I was banded on the 23rd! Last week was my 1st week back to work, it went well. I was sore but I would get up and walk around to feel better (sitting on my butt for 8 hours). Anyhoo, I was on mushy foods so I took tuna salad, sf Jello, yogurt and a banana. We have a good cafetria so I would get scrammble eggs and some Beans for Breakfast. That actually would fill me up till about 12:30 and then I would have the tuna and the jello. Could never finish it all. YAY!!! Now that I am on the solid foods, I notice that I'm hungry more often, I don't feel satisfied. Is that normal? My 1st fill will be 9/20 and i'm thinking that will help with the hungry phase. Am i correct? Miriam

Fourth Week Post-op Hunger
kiz replied to srenee99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two words: Bandster Hell You're swelling has subsided and your band is loose. Try to make healthy food choices, and possibly add a healthy high Protein snack (it was more like a 4th meal), if you're allowed by your doctor and if you can tolerate it well. During this time, I had the same hunger issues, and the NP in my doctor's office gave me several options, such as: Greek yogurt with added All Bran Cereal 1/4 cup tuna w/ 2-4 whole wheat/fat free crackers 1/2 cup of thick chili -
Thanks everyone for replying! So, this morning I'm taking SF2009's advice and did my diary for today ahead of time. So, I cut the shakes, the yogurt and the amount of cottage cheese I have in the morning to .75 cups and it makes a huge difference! Calories 1,219 Fat 63.4 Carbs 44.7 Protein 124 My protein's a still kind of high, but I know I can work on getting that down. I kept hearing the doc say protein, protein, protein and went crazy getting food high in protein Julia BTW, I'm 5'2 and my doc said I should 60-90 grams a day

Give Me An Idea What Life Is Like At 1 Month Post Op --
JenC replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I'm on day 32 today! I've been feeling great and have been for that last 3 plus weeks. I just got home from being out to lunch, I had curry chicken salad (took half home with me if I had been traveling I would have left it on the plate.) It was delishish made with yogurt and curry, a few craisens and walnuts. I chewed until it was liquidfied!! Tomorrow night I will be out to dinner with friends and plan to have the crab cake appetizer as a meal. My doc's program post-op is up to day 6 clears, days 6-11 liquids including milk in protien drinks and cream soups, 11-21 full liquids including thicker soups (no chucks) 21-30 mushies and soft foods including tofu, scrambled eggs ect. Day31 and beyond full diet with warnings regarding tough meats and adding things as tolerated. So yesterday and today I've adventured out a bit and tomorrow I will try something else and slowly add healthy solid foods as tolerated. I would not hestitate to travel at this point. I am still having 1 Isopure a day ( I like all the protien I get from it) and I think I will continue to drink my protien for breakfast. It's fast and easy and nutritionally what I need and if I where traveling I would bring my shaker cup and individual travel packets. I have been to two cocktail parties in week 3 and no one noticed that I was sipping my lemon water and enjoying the company. I can honestly say that I haven't felt hungry since surgery and when everyone else is snacking and having apps it just doesn't seem to bother me. Of course I'm so happy being out in clothes that are two sizes smaller than what I was wearing a month ago I'm in a happy place as everyone is noshing! Unless you have complications of some sort I would totally embrace a NYC trip at one month out, you'll feel good in your clothes and in control of your diet! Everyone is different of course, but with some planning you should be on track for travel -
I've tried them all... ya, I have never been a yogurt eater of any kind, but I truly love the Oikos key lime! Give it a try!

I really want you start eating this but I haven't found the right brand for me. I did freeze plain in ice cube trays to add to protein shake but I can't eat it just yet. Any recommendations
