Your vitamin schedule and help with crushed pills' taste
brians34 replied to brians34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I've finally found the way for me to take my crushed meds without the bitter taste, in fact with no taste at all. I crush my meds first, take a creamy greek yogurt, I stir my yogurt up and scrape off any on the bottom of the spoon on the side of the cup, I have a little left on top (not heeping over side of teaspoon), with another spoon I make a little well in that yogurt and pour the crushed meds in that, then cover with yogurt using the other spoon, then just gulp it like a yogurt capsule. Goes down very easy and best of all no bitter taste. -
I had my surgery on the 15th of this month. I was put on a liquid diet upon discharge. I've been home and have been able to finish my Premier Protein shakes yogurts, cream soups and amout of water I was told to drink. I feel like I'm eating as much as I was during my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I never feel full or sick. No pain or discomfort. Is this normal. Besides the brusing on my stomach I feel like nothing has changed.

So I started my antibiotics for the H-Pylori today and there's 3 different pills I have to take twice daily. The pharmacist said that I need to eat something the equivelant to 3 slices of bread with my pills or else they won't be absorbed and I will throw up. I ate a granola bar and some greek yogurt and still felt a little queasy. So I ate a peice of french bread. I was doing so well on my diet and losing weight before surgery and I feel like now I don't know what to do. Does anybody have any ideas or has anyone been through this? :/

Low Iron, Supplementing, Feel Awful
James Marusek replied to Taylor5's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
A few years after surgery, my blood workup showed that I needed more iron. My nutritionist directed me to take it in the form of ferrous sulfate for the best absorption. A year later, my next blood work showed that I had too much iron, so they said I could cut back on the iron. I took my iron supplement just before bedtime because I wanted to make very sure I was giving it a 2 hour separation between when I took in any form of calcium, not just the supplements (such as calcium from milk, butter, yogurt or other dairy). -
I couldn't stand the texture of puréed foods, so I moved right to soft foods, with my nutritionist's permission. Started out with soft scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and cream Soups. Plus, I had stews, cooked to a mush, then further mushed with a spoon. sugar-free puddings and applesauce are mainstays (still). As are mashed potatoes with really moist chicken (Boston Market is good for this). I didn't really like yogurt either, but Greek yogurt has so much Protein that I wanted to make it work. I don't eat sugar, so I find the prepared yogurts obnoxious. I take plain, 0% Greek yogurt, mix in a tbl of sugar-free blueberry preserves, and Splenda and convince myself it's blueberry ice cream. Good luck!

I started the purée stage of my diet today....everything I tried was disgusting. Anyone have some good meal ideas? Unfortunately I don't like yogurt so that's out.

pureed foods make me gag. its a texture thing. except for Soup. so i figure, i'm gonna make a lot of pureed soups! one thing i do love is roasted and grilled veggies. figure they can be made into a dip type thing with olive oil. my sheet says soft fish, so i'm gonna try that, cause we do like fish around here! figure i'll cook it in little parchment packets and mash mine a bit with a fork. refried Beans come to mind too. i'll have to make mine myself though, since gas is an issue for me. refried beans, little diced veggies on top with greek yogurt and tiny bit o cheese. i like cottage cheese all different ways, sweet, savory... blame my mom, beng gluten free in the 60-70s was not easy! when i was nursing, i made a supercharged rice pudding with no added sugar. it was mochi (short grain) brown rice, milk and eggs. you can make this with any kind of milk beverage you like. i wonder if that would work, though i know some people dont eat carbs... my nut sheets say 1-3 whole grain products a day.

Why is today so tough?!?
mama3beartn replied to chamilton0323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am almost one week through, but mines a three week liquid, so two more weeks to go. I had a real bad day yesterday. Stomach cramped and burned all day. I really drank up the broth and had a Oikos triple zero yogurt which is thick and filling. The warmth from the broth and the thick yogurt really helped. Like Dale said above. Just get through today. Today has been pretty easy so far. My biggest challenge has been having to cook dinner and not get to eat. I planned menus my kids can make (their 14 - 21) , so i don't have to be in the kitchen much and plan crock pot meals I don't have to worry about either so much. this helps a lot. Out of site, out of mind... keep busy and the time will fly. Blessing on your journey. -
Getting banded TOMORROW!!! Liquid diet! Blah!
kiz replied to Mariposa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was on a pre-op diet for two weeks, but it wasn't a liquid diet. I had two protein shakes, one fruit, one yogurt, 4 oz lean meat (turkey, chicken, etc), 2 slices light whole wheat bread, unlimited non-starchy veggies per day - (abbreviated version). It seems there are as many diets to no diet as there are doctors. I know it will be hard to handle a liquid diet while you're traveling for business. Best wishes to you. -
I put this stuff in my greek yogurt in the mornings. Love it!

Don't worry. MY doctor said I COULD have caffine and I actually had some coffee right after my surgery!!! I had a caffine headache and he said I could have a few sips. The only reason you are told not to have caffine is because it dehydrates you. My Dr. said that I could have a cup of coffe in the morning as long as I get in ALL my fluids during the day. (64oz.) So, relax and have a cup of coffee on me. Some of you may disagree, but I am doing what my Dr. says. I was banded on 9/30 and am eating small portions of cottage cheese, yogurt and mushy life cereal. I guess my Dr. is a bit more relaxed than others, but that is ok with me! I feel fine and am not overdoing it. Good luck!

"You will fail"....question
storyboy replied to marysmom1216's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Even though the pre-op liver shrinking included sweet shakes and bars, I am 6 weeks post-op and only occasionally feel a little pull towards cake, chocolate, pie, dessert. Mostly I can walk right past shop displays and can even watch those close-up food-porn shots on TV cooking shows without wanting to join in. A couple of spoonfuls of slightly sweet yogurt or maybe a couple of dried apple chips fix any desire for sweet food after dinner. For snacking, lite milk is sweet enough and has the Protein to get rid of hunger pangs. Four weeks post-op I was feeling over-confident because everything had gone smoothly, so I resumed my weekly trip to the farmers market and while I was there I bought a slice of quiche and ate half the filling. I thought it was only egg and milk or cream, and wouldn't be a problem. But I had eaten lunch only half an hour before. Whoa! The reaction was so extreme and awful - sweating, dizziness, needing to vomit, couldn't sit down, couldn't stand up, had difficulty catching my breath - for about 15 minutes that it put me right back on track. If that was dumping I never want to go there again! -
One more day of liquids
breavsg replied to abiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of my favorites were cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and scrambled eggs... also you could try baby cereals with a little flavoring and/or pureed baby foods with some flavorless protein powder. Good luck! Sent from my Alcatel_5008R using BariatricPal mobile app -
Wonder I'd you can do something like a soup with high amount of protein, cream of wheat, a frozen yogurt (Tasso) has 6 grams protein in it. It's in form of a creamsicle.

I've always been one to get hungry quickly after eating a breakfast of Cereal or oatmeal - carbs. I find that Protein stays with me much longer. A scrambled egg or some yogurt works well for me. You should check out the Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test. Lots of folks here swear by it for helping get back on track. In fact, there is a whole thread dedicated to getting ourselves back on the bandwagon: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/starting-holiday-detox-early-anyone-wanna-join-me-84070/ . Lots of good support and advice there!

Nervous about eating...moving to soft foods
Skinny_Jill replied to steph_co's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am also nervous to try anything new on mushies. I seem to be sticking to full liquids rather than mushies. One night I did have fish and green beans. It was good but I chewed it to death. That should count as part of my exercise! LOL I eat refried beans and mashed potatoes and other than that it is still yogurt, pudding, SF popsicles, juice and broth. I am so scared I will over eat. When I first had the refried beans I did eat too much so I now I am nervous. -
Hi, I will be 6 weeks tomorrow and had my first fill on Oct. 12. I too had stayed at the same weight without losing anymore for about a week before my fill. I have lost 4 lbs. just since the fill. I am sure it is partially to do with the liquid diet after my fill, LOL! Anyway, the restriction is good, not uncomfortable like I was afraid of. I am definitely eating less. It's hard to eat all my Protein in 3 set meals, so I have to throw in a couple yogurt "snacks". Altogether I am down 30lbs. I had to lose 12 before surgery. My starting weight was 252. lisa.e Banded September 3, 2010

I am officially 2 weeks post-op and today is the day I get my ONE egg! I have been patiently waiting for this moment. I made it soft-boiled, with a touch of salt and pepper. I'm about halfway done- and getting full. This is crazy! I remember when I could knock out a 4-egg omelette to myself! Next week I get to start yogurts, shaved turkey, soft fish, etc. For now? This egg is the bomb!! So tired of liquids [emoji23] SW: 350 / CW: 321 / GW: 200 Sleeved April 13, 2017

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor SLOW weight loss, need encouragement!
hoping4moreloss replied to hoping4moreloss's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you to everyone for your support! In reading the replies, as well as some info from this website, I am certainly encouraged! I do try to eat protein first, but I am realizing that some of the foods I eat may be slipping thru the band. ie: Cottage cheese, yogurt. I am trying to figure it all out. I rarely eat bread, that was my favorite food group before the band! The funny thing is I really don't miss it! I don't eat to many sweets...I will keep working on it! Thank you for your replies! -
Dannon Greek Yogurt w/Special K Protein cereal - yummy!
terry1118 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been getting a little bored with my yogurt so I've been looking for something to add to it. Pre op I used to like the Chobani Flips but the sugar content is too high. I saw Special K Protein cereal on sale in the store today and it has 10gr protein in a 3/4 cup serving so I figured I'd give it a try. I mixed 1/4 cup into my yogurt and it was really good. Gave it a tasty little 'crunch' and it brings protein up to 15gr. I think next time I'll add a tbsp of chopped pecans, too! :-) -
So as my menu expands, I've noticed that is harder to get the protein in. Today I had ham w low fat fetta cheese on an ultrathin half of a small pita. Since I need to chew until is completely pureed, I was a quarter through and I wasn't enjoying it anymore. I was 'tired' and eating the whole thing seemed daunting. I got rid of it and made myself the equivalent of protein grams w a shake. It was much better. Same thing happened yesterday w/ a quarter cup of mini shrimp and avocado. The food sits well in my tummy. It just seems like so much work to eat anything other than yogurt, protein shakes, cottage cheese, and lentils. I am 3 weeks out. Has this happened to anyone?

A lot of people on here love it, I'm kinda blah about it....it was okay, but not the real thing. Mixed mine in yogurt and with shakes. HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 217.2

(Cross Posted) I Need Help, Please.
CamarilloCA replied to tjmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not counting my calories, but they are easy to find out by going to FitnessPal.com. Other people who keep better track of their calories can probably be more helpful. Also, you may want to do a search on You Tube for "VSG" and "Sleeve" because there are a lot of video bloggers who have kept a video journal of their journey, and many of them include what they eat now on a daily basis. Their journeys can be very helpful. Here are some examples of what I eat: Breakfast: one Premiere Protein shake or one hard-boiled egg or 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt with Splenda and blueberries espresso with Splenda and milk Lunch: Deli turkey meat slice or two with string cheese or 1/4 cup cottage cheese with smoked salmon and two garlic-stuffed green olives or one hard-boiled egg or five shrimp Dinner: Lean Cusine or chicken or turkey meatballs or flounder or shrimp or hamburger meat or filet minion or halibut some other protein with sweet potato fries (2 or 3) or small salad Snack: Cliff Protein Energy bar or 1/2 banana or some cashews or some watermelon Do you have a nutrionist at your doctor's office? What did your doctor tell you to eat? Someone here on this forum attached a meal plan with some food choices and amounts. I've attached it for you. You can save it to your computer for future reference. meal.plan.pdf -
I asked my Nutritionist the same thing. Basically, I was told that it can be anything as long as it is either soft (like cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, yogurt, refried beans, tuna w/ light mayo, thick soups/ stews (with soft veggies and meat, like canned soup), puddings, apple sauce etc etc. OR it can also be something put into the food processor like chicken, fish, even salads, veggies etc. I think the goal is to make SURE there are no large pieces of food being ingested as your stomach needs to work harder digesting these. The RD said stay away from chewy proteins, dense doughy breads like bagels, veggie and fruit skins, and particularly fibrous foods like celery and red meat. As long as it's liquified (chewed very well) it should be ok. My question was...Isn't everything mushy after it's chewed well? Really the above mentioned fibrous/ dense foods were the only real no no's according to my RD. Good luck!

my delicious lunch--what are you eating today?
TES posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm eating Greek yogurt with Protein powder, JustGreatStuff (Peanut Butter powder like PB2), English Toffee Torani SF syrup, and fresh raspberries. It's so delicious--tastes like a fancy dessert. And a protein load too! What are you eating today?
