How many grams of carbs
Pillar2butterfly replied to Rhino89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally do not count carbs or calories. My doc and NUT says between 64-80 grams of Protein daily is required...and 64 oz minimum of Water. I eat in this order: protein, veggies, fruit/starch. Most of my actual carbs come from fruit. I don't drink juice, if I consume fruit, it is fresh, typically things like some berries tossed in my greek yogurt. I really do not have any room for carbs because by the time I am done eating my of protein, there is very little room for anything else. I take all my Vitamins daily. I do look at the nutrition labels on everything I eat. If it have more than 10 grams of carbs or fat, it doesn't go in my mouth. I'm down 62 lbs in 14 weeks. If I had to count everything, I'd go crazy. i just journal what I eat on Bariastic app. -
Same old issues
Sharon1964 replied to TheOnlyDuchess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I'm in the weight-loss phase, the only carbs I am having (at the moment) are vegetables and the occasional greek yogurt. 1/3 cup of Protein at each meal plus a couple of bites of vegetables. Maybe in another 3 months it will be different, but right now, I don't have room. What carbs are you eating? -
I'm three weeks today and I want solid food. They said I could do string cheese and deli turkey and chicken. I am not drinking my two protien shakes a day because they are making me nauseous I have to drink so much. What do I do? Also I can mashed potatoes and yogurt, Jello pudding, you know the same as the first week or two. But, they don't have protien and I'm worried I'm not doing it right. And I haven't had a bowel movement for like 6 days but I got a really bad hemorrhoid last week so I've been healing. I started my Vitamins sat to help with fatigue. I haven't lost for a few days. What can I do? Just such it up and drink? Am I eating enough? Am I eating too much? WHAT? Ugh...
-
I think everyone has. I just came off one that lasted a month. Seems like it's different for everyone. I changed up what I was eating. I was eating too large of a portion of nuts and had dropped off yogurt intake. Changed that and added more protien. You seem good there tho. Hang in there and it will start dropping again

3 times 10 does not equal 70!
Sharon1964 replied to Sharon1964's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's the thing Amanda, if it's enough calories for a meal, then it's a meal! Now I'm 3 1/2 months out, I've lost 90 pounds, and my hair isn't falling out. I don't drink Protein shakes. For Breakfast I have either a greek yogurt, a homemade smoothie (frozen blueberries, lactaid milk, greek yogurt, splash of sugar-free vanilla syrup, ice), or one scrambled egg with cheese. For lunch, I have dinner leftovers. For dinner, I have about 1/3 cup of meat. Tonight it was "puffy chicken" (chicken breast baked with a mixture of mayo and parmesan cheese on top). Yesterday it was pork chops, the day before that it was meatloaf. I usually also have about 3 bites of vegetables. After dinner I have a sugar-free popsicle. My labs right now are fabulous, I have energy and I feel great. I have a feeling that may change at some point, and then I plan to add in Protein Shakes. -
I was sleeved on 10/26 and have lived on shakes and drinks. My favorite is crystal light lemonade and strawberry sorbet unjury. Mix in 12 oz of Water and mix I've afterwards for a strawberry lemonade. For a power boost, Greek yogurt, chocolate milk and chocolate sorbet unjury (geez I sound like an unjury salesman by this point). 12 grams for the milk, 14 for the yogurt and 21 for the unjury = 47 grams of Protein just at lunch.

First Name Kesha - Last Name Nervous
TheNiceVoice replied to TheNiceVoice's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So, tomorrow is the big day. No liquid diet for me. I can eat regular all day today. Nothing after midnight. Although I will be saying farewell to regular food for a while, I had no desire to pig out today. I had some pancakes for Breakfast (thanks to the hubby) . . . I had some greek yogurt and I'll be doing some turkey chili tonight for dinner. The heart is racing . . .but I don't think its nervousness. (thanks to you all! ) I think I'm getting excited. Losing this weight will prayerfully grant me some sort of normalcy after battling cancer for so long. I look forward to wearing dresses, shorts in the summertime and working out for more than 10 mins. I also look forward to getting out of bed. Depression had me trapped in my room for most of the year. I'm just so excited. I literally feel tears coming to my eyes. -
Looking for sleeve partner 11/23
TheNiceVoice replied to readyforchange15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@readyforchange15 - WHERE ARE YOU!!!! It's almost time! What did you eat today? The only restriction is not to eat after midnight. My husband made pancakes this morning. I felt guilty. I've had a gallon on Water, some yogurt . . .and probably some turkey chili for dinner with a light salad. My heart is racing. The support here is amazing . . .so I don't think I'm nervous anymore . . .just anxious with a tad bit of excitement. -
It's fundamentally a fad diet variant that gets you back to very low calories and carbs for a few days, which some find helps them reset their cravings if they have gone overboard on junk food. Any diet that significantly cuts back the junk does the same thing. It has nothing to do with testing a pouch as we don't have one, and running liquids or yogurt through one (for those who do, as in bypass or band patients) doesn't test anything, either.

Figuring out what my sliders are was important for me. It's the chewing and swallowing that trigger the signal for satiety. I add mix-ins to my yogurt for this reason (chia seeds, a few nuts, a little gluten-free Cereal, etc.) -- otherwise it would just go right down. cheese is also a slider for me unless I have it with something that I can really chew. I'll have a few apple slices or GF crackers sometimes or a rice cake, etc. with the cheese. I could never do pizza, though it sounds like that may be a slider food for you. We are all different. And yes, chicken seems to be a problem for many. I cook thighs over a long period of time or pound tenders to tenderize them thoroughly and I use a lot of stock to cook chicken down. I never order it in a restaurant but usually choose a filet mignon or tenderloin instead (I'm worth it!) or fish, etc. Good luck to you as you get your groove -- great way of putting that B-52. It definitely is a lifestyle thing. Find yourself a doctor to work with -- that's really important. Best wishes!

Purée stage
turbomom22 replied to melaniealbert1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dub. My surgery is tomorrow and my post op is just like my 2 wk pre op protein shakes, SF jello, Popsicles, broth, light no chunk yogurts. I agree this will give your new pouch time to heal while maintaining your protein. -
I stayed on Protein shakes for the first 3 weeks. After that my surgeon moved me over to Greek yogurt, eggs, baked fish, soft baked/stewed chicken, cottage cheese and etc. Even though my calorie intake was about the same as before....my weight loss paused for two full weeks. Drove me nuts......then it started moving again. I'm really not scared of anything that comes across the Thanksgiving table this week, Week 6. Turkey, ham, deviled eggs. It is my sincere hope to score a few oysters before Mom puts them in the dressing for everyone else. I'll hit them with some Ed's Red Hot Sauce and down the hatch.

I really didn't do the puree stage..... Protein shakes for 3 weeks post op and then my surgeon put me on soft foods like soft baked salmon, flounder, tuna and stewed chicken, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and etc. Chewed very, very carefully of course. I'm glad it was like this. Much of the stuff that I see commonly eaten during the puree stage don't really support high protein and weight loss.

Protein intake vs. being full?
BLERDgirl replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Listening to your body. Many of us got where we needed surgery by pushing past that fll feeling. If you are concerned about hitting your protein, switch things up. Add a bit greek yogurt to your Protein shake. *Flavor your Water with a Protein Drink like Isopure NoCarb or Syntrax Nectars. Plan for 3 meals and 2 Snacks instead of 3 big meals. It will allow you to get in more protein without pushing your limits. *Isopure Nocarb drinks are 40gms of protein for 20 ounces. I divide the bottle into 3 parts. I use my 24 ounce water bottle. I try to drink 24 ounces 3 times a day. I add the Isopure and carry my bottles everywhere and sip whenever I am not eating. It makes meeting protein & Fluid goals easy. -
Protein Shakes - Do I have to?
rking replied to Jackiesleeved2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc won't even let me have protein shakes until week 3. I am on clear liquids only. I MUST drink isopure protein drinks for my protein. He is very conservative but I have to say I have had not one ounce of nausea and I feel great!!! I think I feel better than I should. I have broth, Gatorade, water, isopure and auger free Popsicles. I actually feel like I could handle mashed taters or soups or yogurt but I will not risk it. Was yours on 17th? Mine was. -
What have you learned to love since WLS?
Alex Brecher replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
dhrguru, Great topic! Let’s see…I have learned to love: Life! So cheesy, but so true. I love life for living’s sake, and not for the sake of the food that comes along with it. Healthy food. I like Greek yogurt, blueberries, salmon, and so many other healthy foods. I like their taste, and I like the feeling of knowing they’re good for me. Unhealthy food: I say I have learned to like it because now I can crave it, enjoy a reasonable amount of it, and get over it. Before, I just ate it. Exercise. Yes, I love running, lifting weights, biking, and being active generally…and not just because it feels good when it’s over (although I like that feeling, too). It lowers stress and makes me feel strong and powerful. -
Anyone that has had surgery within a week?
YCandy replied to Glogyal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine nov 19th. Felt ok the day of, no nausea or really any pain. 2nd day wasn't as great - hurt to drink & I had some mild nausea in the evening. Woke up today (day 3) with no nausea, less pain when drinking. It's more of the gas bubbles & pressure that are annoying. Today I've had a danactive drinkable yogurt (3 oz), premier protein shake (11 oz) and some egg drop soup strained. It really hit the spot. I'm going to try & get one more shake in for 60 grams protein. But no way am I able to get 60 oz fluid yet. -

Sleeved 9/9/15. I have lost 53 pounds. No more Metformin for diabetes, gout, high cholesterol. Hopefully I will come off high blood pressure meds next month. My struggle has been getting 64oz of water in but I have no problems protein. I do one protein shake and one protein bar a day. I get the rest of my protein eating eggs, chicken, seafood, turkey and beef. Snacks are yogurt, string cheese, almonds, sugar free puddings and sunflower seeds. Exercises have been walking, ab exercises, squats and resistance band workouts. Just joined Planet Fitness so that will be a new journey. I know that everyone is different but I had to find what works for ME and I have found this is what works for ME......right now.
