The yogurt is the Dannon Light & Fit. The fruit is blended, so you do not have to worry about being stuck. However, once you are optimally filled, you cannot eat it too quickly, or you will get that uncomfortable, "Oh this is going to take a while to get down" feel.

I am new here too. I am taking a 50+ multi vitamin, 1000mg of vitamin c (500 twice a day), Pepcid twice a day and biotin 1000mg once a day, all required by the surgeon prior to surgery coming up in may. I am eating a lot of veggies and have cut out bread, crackers, chips, popcorn and no sugar. I have lost 11 pounds in about 8 weeks. I can only exercise a little due to two previous back surgeries but I have a good outlook on the program. yogurt is an acceptable form of protein, I use oikos triple 0 and it is great. it does have some sugar but no added sugar. good luck and enjoy the journey. -
I! I am in the first week post op, and on full liquids. I bought some vanilla Greek yogurt for protein. However, I think they taste nasty. Any suggestions on how I can make them taste better?

Bored with the clear liquids - 2 days to go
BumbleBree replied to thughes113's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hmm thats strange..my clear liquids were all that plus milk and yogurt..but then again that really isnt clear..I think My Dr. is crazy... -
I was going to say something about the fake Yoplait Greek yogurt, but someone beat me to it. I like Chobani best. My daughter hates Greek yogurt too, but she still eats sugar. I don't and have always liked the tartness. That's okay. This way she won't eat my yogurt. The pineapple and lemon are my favorite. I know about the carbs in the flavored ones, but I still am under 45 for the day so I don't sweat it.

There's a lot going on with you. No wonder you need help. It seems you should call the doctor about the nausea and vomiting. Perhaps he/she will be able to prescribe a different medication. You should also talk to the doctor about your thigh. As far as actions you can take (1) Really push the fluids. In addition to the water and broth, try sugar free popsicles, jello, nonfat no sugar or fruit added Greek yogurt, no sugar added hot chocolate (Swiss Miss makes some). (2) Don't worry too much about protein right now. You can try putting some, maybe half a scoop, of chocolate or vanilla protein powder in the hot chocolate. Do the best you can do on it, but don't stress. In a few days it will be easier to get the protein in. Check in with an update.

Washington Dc Challenge At 2 Weeks Out
mrsteacher posted a blog entry in Sleeved by Dr. Kelly in Mexico
I was given the opportunity to escort a group of fifth graders to Washington, DC this past week. I almost turned it down because I was only 2 weeks postop and I wasn't sure how I could mange the eating on the trip. My husband convinced me to go (it is not everyday I get an opportunity like that...I was replacing a sick teacher who couldn't make it.). My diet at this point is only clear liquids and protein. Dr. Kelly recommends not adding mushies until day 20. Lots of other people report eating food earlier so I wasn't hyper stressed. I was trying to keeping the operation quiet so I was trying to not draw too much attention to myself! I brought protein powder to add to OJ every morning and that is what I had for breakfast each morning. Lunch and dinner was a little tricky. Lunch the first day was provided by the bus company and I just took the turkey off the sandwich and chewed that up into mush and ate it. That went down fine but the cheese stick did not (harder to chew into mush). Our first dinner stop was a buffet. . I ate barely anything (enough to make it look like I was eating). My stomach did not do well with that. It just felt uncomfortably tight. Luckily we did a lot of walking that night through some monuments and it loosed up. The second lunch was really late (2 p.m.) and I ordered hummus at a greek place. It came with warm flat bread (red light food!). The hummus went down fine the bread not so much so. Dinner was at Medieval Times. I did the soup (and attempted a couple bites of the bread) and ate maybe a tablespoon of chicken (did pretty good with that). The next day we did lunch at the Smithsonian and I was really disappointed at my options. In hindsight I probably should have eaten a McD's smoothy. I ordered chicken nugget happy meal. When I say "ate it" I had four french fries and peeled the breading off the chicken nuggets (4 of them) and attempted to eat it. Those did not sit well in my tummy. Turns out that upstairs in the dining area I could have had a yogurt parfait (not advertised downstairs). Dinner that night was a the Pentagon Mall. I had wild mushroom soup (outstanding) and a bit of frozen yogert. Lunch on our last day was at the Golden Corral. Barely ate anything and stopped before feeling uncomfortable. I'd give myself a grade of "C" on my eating on the trip. I don't think anyone thought I was too odd for not eating more. Most people know that I have been trying to lose weight since the beginning of the year. We walked a ton on the trip. I am going to weigh myself tomorrow morning to see if there was any weight loss on the trip due to the exercise. I am happy to report that I barely felt hungry at all!!!! I'm going to back to liquids until my 20th day and then I'll stay with mushies. -

GMO free AND organic protein-no chemicals
giggleblue replied to MoMo12onTheGo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Pacific Bone Broth or make your own. Try Pacific Organic Soups and strain them. Make your own apple sauce for post-op. Organic Greek yogurt. Flavor water with pieces of organic citrus. Try organic protein shakes - Muscle Milk makes one but I found it too sweet from Stevia. Get organic protein powder from Whole Foods. Try organic baby food for the purée soft foods. Organic chickpeas and make hummus. Organic eggs. I think there are tons of options - think out the box! Add organic protein powder unflavored to everything if you aren't going to drink the shakes with chemicals. -
What are the first foods to try in week 4
ShelterDog64 replied to CVanPelt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is your week 4 purees or soft foods? Every plan is different, I was on full food by the end of week 4. Good soft foods: refried Beans with cheese, ricotta with sauce, cottage cheese with pureed fruit, soft scrambled eggs (for most people, not for me), yogurt, softer cheeses. I mixed unflavored Protein into most everything I ate. Like @@amandastearns said, shakes are a good option still at that point, especially if the food choices are complicated and you don't have a lot of time to spend worrying about food. -

Pre Op Liquid Diet. Help!
bandicootc replied to mandersue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the myoplex lite which has forever ruined me on the taste and smell of cake. I have the true results brand. The vanilla is awful but strawberry and chocolate are great. I also have now foods whey protein isolate. It is unflavored so you can add it to anything. Warm or cold. My fav post op one is the protein shots. They taste awful (fruit punch) but at 2.5oz. 26g protein and 110 calories they are perfect. She. I am not making my protein for the day I drink one. Two gulps and done. And they stave hunger. Sooooo triple bonus. I can't drink a whole shake now. I am 3 months out. I recommend the unflavored. Put it in jello, yogurt, broth, whatever. Just put it in after slightly cooled so it doesn't curdle. Also, it mixes completely without the gritty taste. -
Almost a year out and still get it on a regular basis. Kind of depends on what I eat. For whatever reason things like yogurt tend to make the most noise. Doesn't stick around for a long but in a quiet office it stands out...lol

Questions about net calorie intake
WhoKnows replied to Sunnyskies2283's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just make sure when you start doing strength training (which I definitely suggest you do when you're ready - maybe in two weeks or so?) that you get enough calories/protein to rebuild the muscle you break down while training. On the days I don't weight train, I get around 600-700 calories. But on the days I do lift, I get closer to 1000 or even 1100. I get between 80-90g of Protein every day. If you do decide to up your calories, I'd say don't do it through more animal fats (full-fat mayo/cheese, etc). Not all calories are equal, and you should be aiming for something more nutritionally dense, not just something that has more calories. So you could adding a little more carbs through fruit (berries!) or a nice whole grain like quinoa, or go for plant based fats like avocado or healthy nuts (walnuts or almonds, for example). Or, of course, you could just add more protein, maybe through another shake (which, of course, some of the above options could be added to, within reason). All of the options I just listed would give you essential micronutrients along with the extra calories. Full-fat mayo would just be fat. (I have seen some studies that suggest one serving of whole fat dairy a day can aid weight loss though, but still, that's a single serving, not an extra serving, and I don't think it was all dairy, I think it was just yogurt and certain cheeses.) -

Here are some suggestions of foods you see on "healthy food lists": Chobani Fruited Greek Yogurt for breakfast (with added protein powder), Occational Whey Protein shake made with Fat Free Milk, Fruit or string cheese for afternoon snack, Lean Cuisine for lunch, Grillled/Baked Chicken breast, Turkey Chili, Hummus and carrots, Egg Whites/egg beaters, Fish, Apples, oranges. Just incase you hit writers block! -
Ok, very confused about pureed foods
Humming Bird replied to jamelyn1979's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never threw anything in the blender that I normally wouldn't ..... just gross. I found plenty of things to eat that were already in that form like apple sauce, yogurt, cream of wheat......... -
I got sleeved 11/8 and am on a full liquid diet with soft foods to come next. Would love to know your favorites for this diet. Best protein shakes, yogurts, other liquids? Best soft foods? Also I’ve received mixed feedback on whether or not I can have cream in my coffee. Thoughts? Thank you!!

I had issues with lose bowels, I am finding out it was due to eating yogurt and cottage cheese. The combination of those two were awful for me, I went thru about 3 months of being afraid to eat breakfast during work because I did not want to be running to the bathroom all morning. I did process of elimination, now everything is fine.

I have a protein shake for breakfast. Mid morning is a piece of cheese or Greek yogurt. Lunch is a salad with grilled chicken, or 2 hardboiled eggs (no yolk) and a piece of cheese, dinner is a little tricky sometimes. Sometimes I'll have an omelet with feta cheese and mushrooms, sometimes I just pick at things, like triscuits and hummus, maybe a portobello burger (no bread), etc. I drink approximately 64 ounces of liquid a day.

Pre-Op Diet OMG! I'm Dying!
Brenda Sherwood replied to UpandAtom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im jealous of you guys...you get shakes. Im only allowed Isopure [clear Protein ] broth and Jello. I had a hard time the first day, second day was a breeze, third day I found out insurance denied me so I had some yogurt and scrambled eggs. But, Im going to stay pretty close to this diet for awhile just because of the health benefits. Im down 27lbs since January, 6 of which were the last 3 days. Im pretty bummed about the denial but we are fighting it and shooting for July. And yes I agree on giving up the high carb shakes. They wont help curb your appetite and will damper tge results of liver shrinking. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App -
Hi all, I'm a new member. Im having a problem disgesting everything except water and yogurt. How long does this usally last and when are you able to add more to your food intake. I'm hungry!

Help me anticipate the "real" differences from AGB to VSG
Oregondaisy replied to Wheetsin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've read many reports of consistent restriction from VSG vs. tha random restriction I had from AGB. Is your restriction consistent? Yes, I can eat more mushie food like yogurt, but meat 2-3 oz s it consistent both in terms of times of day you can eat and types of food you can eat? Yes I eat anything I want for breakfast lunch and dinner, With AGB "stuck" foods caused me discomfort or pain, often quite a bit of pain, and often for a fairly long time. Does food stick with VSG? Never for me. I've read about people brining stuff up, but is this because of failure to pass through some stoma, or is it because of eating more than you can hold? Or both? I've never had an issue with food coming up,but I've been careful not to overeat. Does it hurt like it did with your band? When it comes up, is it "saliva + stuck bits" like with the band, or is it actual vomit? I've never vomited with the sleeve. I know some dumping can occur with VSG - do you dump? Is it on specific foods, or random? I've never had a dumping problem. I had my gall bladder out at the same time as my revision and now fatty foods nauseate me, but sweets are fine. What period is the greatest risk for developing a leak? I see references to 2 weeks, 2 months... That's a doctor question, but I think you have to be careful for a couple of months until you are completely healed. Is leak the (currently known) most likely complication of VSG? I see people talking about leaks, and pOuch stretching, but that's about it. Surely there's something else out there... That's all I've heard also, though I didn't have any problems. WIthout the need for fills, what does your post-op care look like? I only went back to my surgeon once post-op. After that my primary care doc handles everything. I just have labs once or twice a year. Do you have periodoc leak tests as a bandster might have period fluoro or xray? No. What do you like best about your VSG? The ability to eat healthy foods that I couldn't with the band (salads, certain fruits/veggies), not having to ever worry again about eating too much - I can't, being able to eat like a "normal" person (not counting calories, fat grams, etc.). I eat whatever I want, but in moderation. What do you like least about your VSG? There are times your brain still wants to pig out on something, but your body can't do it, so you have to just deal with that. I lost more muscle than I would have liked to, but that I can build back up. What did you not know going in, that you wish you did? I was pretty well informed, but I guess I didn't realize how hard it would be to get all my protein in without supplements. I still have to eat protein bars to get it all in. I keep reading "recovery is a lot harder than with the band," but no one really elaborates. Can someone please share their comparison of recovery? I've had 12 surgeries in my life, so I may be an old pro about it, but I thought my recovery was just as easy. I work from home on the computer and was back at my desk the day after I got home from the hospital for short spurts. Pain was minimal. How hard did you find the transition in terns of behavior? I'm assuming there are shared rules such as chewing to goo, small bites, waiting between bites, etc. You don't have to worry about chewing everything up super small with the VSG like you do with the band or taking small bites. The opening to your stomach is the same as anyone else's, so that's not an issue anymore. I eat just like anyone else. Do you have a "soft stop" with VSG? (I never had one with AGB, but I'm wondering if it exists with VSG) Not sure what that means... Did anyone out thyere have a difficult revision due to scar tissue/etc. with the band? My surgeon did both the band and my revision to VSG. He had put my port in there really good, so it was a bear to get out. I was left with a large open area internally that filled with blood and caused a hematoma. The incision above the hematoma opened up, the blood drained, and the hole had to then heal from the inside out. I had to keep it packed with cotton tape and change twice a day for a couple of months. I also had a hiatal hernia that I fell was caused by the band. The doc fixed it during the revision surgery. Any bathroom problems? (e.g. the terrible stinkies DSers are known for) None at all. In fact, I used to have IBS but no more. It seems like most people encounter significant heartburn. Is reflux an issue with VSG? Is the heartburn long term, or does it resolve after a while? I continue to take a PPI to control acid, so it's not an issue. Are your food intolerances (if any) the same as with your AGB? I can eat or drink anything I want with the sleeve, no restrictions. I choose to NOT eat much bread, as it swells with liquids and takes up room in my tummy I should be filling with protein. I can tolerate anything - spicy foods, wine and spirits, etc.
