ashleymor4 replied to GraciesMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hv 5 scars, they all had stiches that disolved. My dr. put this tape over them and he said they were healed when the tape fell off. I had my surgery on 10/18 and I only have 2 tapes left and the ones that are showing arent bad at all. They only itched every once and a while. Good Luck -
Weight loss goals
momof3_angels replied to Darktowerdream's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have 2 goals. 1st is the doctors goal. He said I should be able to get down to 160. I was 226.8 when I first say him and 205 the day of surgery. I am 5'4". I think 160 is way too high and I am certain I can get below that now that I have this new tool. My goal is 135. For BMI... I could go well below that, but I look too thin if I am less than 130. 135 was my healthy weight 10 years ago. Hoping to get close to that. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
im post op 2 months also. You don't want to rush extreme lifting though because i have a abdominal hernia from my daughters cesarean that happened 5 years ago because i went working too soon and lifted too much. I goto the gym now but im not bench pressing anything . I started a light workout with a weighted ball that was simply 10 pounds and i would sit on my butt and place the ball to the left , right , then back left again and it didn't strain anything. Everybody is different but just be on the safe side.

I'm Having A Minor Melt-Down
gamergirl replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've gone from an 18/20 to 14 in most things and 12 in jeans in a about 4 months. I still wonder if I will ever make it to a 12 or a 10. I don't have the faith I should in this whole process. Compared to my previous attempts at dieting, this seems so effortless, that I'm worried it will just stop of it's own accord well before I'm ready. Based on my past, this seems like it should be much harder to be losing so much weight! Sounds like all your shopping is going to have to be last minute Misty. Are consignment shops big in Australia? My husband has been buying me expensive clothes at a fraction of their price from online auctions. I don't have the patience that takes. -
Hi All, surgery went great, had some issues about 4 days out with rapid heart beat, sweating, feeling faint for several days. After a visit to the ER today and lot of tests, I was told that I was dehydrated. Even though I drink 64 oz a day I can't seem to drink enough. But that aside I am happy. One week out and I have lost 7.7 pounds. Nice!

Everyone seems to weigh so often.
MeMeMEEE replied to Griselda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ignoring the scale allowed me to gain back what I had lost before on weight watchers a few years ago, plus 35 pounds. I have to weigh in daily so that I don't let the numbers jump 10 at a time before I realize it -

I had Dr. Reilly! I got banded Monday 12/10/12. Im not really sure what to comment on him. He seems like a very kind person and answers questions but I seen him once before but not after the procedure. His crew kind of made me feel rushed like they just wanted me to leave already!! -
What Do I Do With All These Protein Shake Mixes?

My surgery date is May 23rd. I will have a 10 day preop diet. Since I'm having my surgery in Mexico, I don't have a NUT. Any help you can give for protein ideas would be appreciated. -

Mini vent: Stupid stalls! I've lost 2 lbs in 2 weeks. Yeah, the scale's moving, but I've been used to a consistent 3 lbs a week. Like clockwork. I know this is normal. I know it's my body's natural adjustment to rapid loss. I know the scale isn't the only measure of success. In fact, I know I'm continuing to get smaller despite the scale. My personal trainer did my latest measurements, and in 2 and half weeks, I'd lost 3.25" from my hips, 2" from my waist, 3.25" from my thighs, and even 1.5" from my calves. No change to my upper arms though. I know these things, but I still can't help but get frustrated. I'm not beating myself up per se. In fact, I'm still feeling pretty dang good about myself. I bought my very first bikini the other day to celebrate hitting a BMI of 29. I just really really want to reach my goal, and this "honeymoon period" and "window of opportunity" stuff makes me nervous. I feel like I'm in a race against the clock to reach my goal in the first 8-ish months. Which means I have 3 more months to lose 48 lbs. To do that, I need to average 4 lb loss a week. So yeah, stalls are frustrating. Here are the numbers: Height: 5'6.5" Highest weight: 289 Starting weight (9/13): 268 Day of surgery (12/10/13): 254 Current weight: 188 Goal weight: 140 I go to the gym 4 times a week and work with a personal trainer once a week. I get between 400-600 cals a day. I get between 50-65 grams of protein a day. 70+ oz of fluid a day. Fellow Dec. sleevers, how long have your stalls been? Have you been able to kick out of them? I'll work on my patience..

I'm 2 years out I've had my ups and downs of weight loss. I've have worried daily in my success of weight loss. On how many calories, rite vitamins, exercise, list goes on. I may have been the lucky one or am I? I went thru the phase of regret not able to enjoy the food I once loved. But I loved loosing the weight. Slowly. Sex drive went down hill. Hair falling out skin crepping. " Blood levels are normal" . Started out with small weight loss goals. Reached my goals. Over and over again my goal weight was 125. I told my self I have to stick to a healthy weight for me . Not what the experts say I should weigh. Then it was a goal of 115. in my head I'm not satisfied I'll do another goal of 110. So I decided it's time to maintain my weight or gain 10 pounds back. Since I'm now 100 lbs. I'm trying to gain weight. And I'm struggling!! I want to gain. should I eat the three C's cake, cookies, ice cream? Of course not what are healthy fattening foods? The positives. Looking good feeling good.

I'm down 10 lbs almost 2 weeks, was probably about where you are at one week. Each body is different, I'm having trouble keeping up with walking right now due to heat. But at work I make sure I get up and do a few walks around the office. Hopefully the next few weeks I'll add some more mileage under my belt like the first few days.

What do you think of the tv show Saving Grace?
Daisalana replied to munchkin392's topic in The Lounge
I recorded every episode on Tivo.. I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes, and it's ok.. but I kept getting bored. It wasn't exciting enough for a whole hour. ADD kicked in, and I'd start reading a book. I actually deleted the other 8-10 episodes off of my TiVo last night. I decided it's not one I'm ever going to get around to, because it doesn't draw me in. -

Eating like it's going out of style
anewchapter replied to aliciab's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well this was exactly were I was about 10-15 days ago, then I thought I would put a 2 week plan together to prepare me for my 2 week pre op diet (basically start cutting things out slowly - I posted the plan in another topic). The first week went pretty good. Then today during my pre-op phone consult with the nut she went over the pre-op diet with me, which I had already read over in the manual they gave me, I freaked out when she said no grains of any kind. I went straight to the grocery store after work and bought bagels and had 2 for dinner then continued to make a cake. What the heck!! But my name is Erinn, and I'm a food addict. That's the bottom line. I will continue to follow my plan after this little bump in the road. And surgery is only 3 weeks away. It seems like yesterday it was 6. -
Hello all I am in the begining stages of my pre op diet, waitingfor a date. I am a Chef and have allways been able to walk around and just pick up something and put it in my mouth ( almost involutary and not allways the best for you foods, almost never good for you foods) now that I am on my pre op diet and haveing to journal everything. I have been trying to pay more attention to what I put in my mouth, but am still finding it way hard to be surounded my food 10 -15 hours a day and not want to pick. Also trying to reduce my carbs ALOT so I am going through carb withdrawls at the same time(no fun). I hope ot gets easier just trying to keep in mind that I want weight loss more then I want the food in front of me. So anyway after all that I was really just wondering if there were anyother food industry people out there with this same challange????

Sorry just now getting back to you. He was 27 when I kicked him out. He had to sign a 10 page contract when he moved in, so there was no guessing as to what was allowed/not allowed in our house. (I'm in law school) We have kids here. I was raised around an alcoholic/crackhead, and my tolerance for the same is nonexistent. He is still a loser, and I suppose he is still doing the same stuff....just not in my house. I have NO functional drug addicts in my family. Everybody else had given my brother a chance to straighten out, he didn't want to be straight. It's very easy for a drug addict to manipulate others. They have a tendency to make others feel guilty about creating opposition for their lifestyle. They are pros at it. And as far as offering rehab...they have to want rehab. That is one thing that you cannot do for him. I agree that there a lots of people that are functional that smoke pot. I just don't know any of them. Like I said, all of the ones I know are either unemployed or steal stuff to get money to support their habit.

Ok i know pot is bad but its not the worst thing out there. Pot is not expensive eather you can get a fair amout of pot for 10 bucks. Dont kick them out. They have a baby! I think you should have a talk with him . Tell him you dont aprove and to never disrespect your house like that agian. Dont be heartless... Where would the world be with out second chances.. Kim

@@amytug welcome back! I remember you. Good for you for getting back on track. Life has a way of derailing us, for sure. I've never actually reached goal, but it is because I'm too stubborn to just adjust the goal. I really wanted to hit a normal BMI, but that might not even be a good goal for me. I'm in a size 8, and look and feel great (if I do say so myself ). So, I just never change that number, and I think if I went back eating 900 calories I could get there, but not sure it's that realistic. I am working hard enough to maintain this - losing another 10 or 15 pounds just isn't worth it to me! I'm 52 and look better than most people my age. I also had a lot of plastics in the last year, starting at about 18 months post op. Right behind the gastric sleeve, those procedure were one of the best things I've ever done!

So after 10 years if being morbidly obese. And on failed to have surgery (may ins company discovered a clause that didn't allow for weight lose surgery 3 years ago) I'm finally taking the plunge again. I currently weigh 301 lbs. I started the journey mid April, at my top weight of 312 lbs. I'm down 11 of the 32 lbs the surgeon would like me to lose prior to surgery. All my preppy test (scope, barium, and psych exam) are all done and only have 4 more dietician visits to do. Any advice for someone starting out this journey?

Mine was 14,500 and I my insurance also covered all but 10% so I had to pay 300.00 surgeon fee and a 1,000 hospital fee! Pre op weight 246, surgery weight 224, Goal 160, surgery 2/6/13

How to get rid of the gas????
lovelyaskanbe replied to 1prettygirl1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walk, Walk, Walk. Walk from 5-10 minutes every hour and get a heating pad. These two things helped me. The pain will go away in a few day. Stay Strong
